Easily, one of the nicest coffee houses I have been in. Having Beiler's Donuts next door places this in the category of one of the best in the world. Lancaster has so many amazing restaurants, cafes and bakeries, this is quite an accomplishment. Mean Cup also has a stall at Central Market. Soo i never leave reviews and especially not poor ones. However, this is something that i cannot ignore, and i would not want anyone else to have to deal with it either. A friend and i got coffee from mean cup for the first time today and not only were they incredibly rude and entitled but the hot London fog that my friend got burnt her lips practically to second degree burns. I understand that everyone makes mistakes but even after we went in to try and resolve the issue because she was in so much pain she was crying and her face was almost blistering, the workers response was to blame it on my friend!! They offered no help whatsoever and said she could use burn cream while also saying it couldn't be their fault!! All of this was said in an extremely rude way. Note that I like Mean Cup, I gave them four stars. Now I get to quibble. I like the feel of the place, but when we visited in August, there was no cold-brewed iced coffee, and what they did have was ... passable. I know cold-brew has now jumped the shark (hi Dunkin Donuts), so maybe Mean Cup decided to skip it, but the iced coffee they did have wasn't anything to write home about. The chalkboard menus were cute but cluttered - hard to follow. I do like that simple syrup was available for the iced coffee - many shops don't bother, and sugar just doesn't dissolve well in iced drinks. I feel like MC could be incredible if they put more focus on better coffee (mind you it's good, it's just not, say, Blue Bottle good), and maybe less focus on, like, flavored lattes (which were the bomb in '98). But that's just me. If customers want raspberry whippy things, then give the people what they want! read more

I've visited Mean Cup three times within the last two weeks, and I have to say I've encountered rude staff members during each visit. They're unwillingness to answer simple questions concerning the menu startled both my wife and I due to their hostility. We tried two more visits, but after encountering nothing but rudeness and lack of interest towards their customer's questions, I'm afraid we won't be returning. Their coffee is decent but I prefer other local cafes. 1/5 stars. My recommendation is to venture out and explore other local cafes and coffee houses if you're interested in a friendly, non-judgmental, atmosphere. You might find some better options for your daily coffee needs. read more

The place is spacious and seems like it would be a good place to set up and work/study. However, I found the person at the counter to be extremely and unnecessarily rude. I asked about a couple things (having never been there before), and each question was met with a condescending reply. I thought at first it was just a dry sense of humor, but as the exchange continued, it became obvious it was just plain rudeness. I have been a barista and a server for many years in the past and would never have treated any customer the way he treated me. It was just made unnecessarily difficult and uncomfortable to order a coffee that, in the end, wasn't that great. Although I found the dirty chai tea I ordered to be delicious, the completely rude service to not only myself but others, has turned me off from ever returning here. WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!! This is one of the BEST coffee and tea places I have EVER been! I wish we had one of these in Hawaii! We came here for a quick breakfast before heading out to Chocolate World at the request of the F&M daughter. She just LOVES this place and wanted to share it with her mom & sister. There is a parking lot in front and back. We got there around 9:30 am. There were a lot of stalls in front (off of Harrisburg). We walked in and the place is so cool. There are large paintings on the wall. There are a few of Godzilla and a LARGE one of the USA. There are tables, booths, and counters. There is a display case of baked goods. There is a refrigerated case of pasta salads and sandwiches. The menu board is right above the counter. We were greeted as we walked up to place our orders. We ordered a Chai-Der, London Fog, and Dirty Girl. My daughter got a pasta salad with walnuts. I got a spinach stratta. Other child got a chocolate croissant. We grabbed a table and waited. The wait wasn't long, but I took the time to observe. The counter people were very friendly. The customers in Mean Cup were so diversified. There were moms with their strollers. The college crowd was there. Grandparents with the grandkids. People working on their laptops. It looks like EVERYONE loves this place. Our order was up and we grabbed it from the counter. The stratta was awesome. It was light, cheesy with enough spinach that didn't overwhelm. The pasta salad was filling. My daughter couldn't quite finish it. No worries. I was able to get her back. The chocolate croissant smelled so good. Unfortunately for me, there was no left overs. On to our drinks, they were delightful. The Chai-der (chai & cider) was tasty and had me craving more. The London Fog is something I want, no need to recreate at home. (It's earl grey tea, vanilla, and milk.) The Dirty Girl (hot chocolate & coffee) was heavenly! I literally didn't want my cup to end! Overall, the ambiance, the service, and the food and drink made this one of my favorite places on my road trip! Can't wait to come back! read more

One way for a coffee shop to win me over very quickly is to play an album by The Clash in its entirety. Sure it was a sleepy Saturday morning after a night of camping that I rolled into Mean Cup and The Clash might not be for everyone at that point in the day, but I enjoyed it. As could be expected from the playlist, the staff was a bit hip (not surprising since it is a coffee shop next to a college campus) but the clientele was varied. Sure there were the scenesters typing away on laptops but there were also summer college students, older jogging types, and even families. They all took advantage of the numerous soft pillowed benches against the wall (some with their own electrical outlets and some not). After a rainy night, I practically melted into my seat. I was reluctant to leave. The decor was eclectic to say the least with some really cool murals made for their titular angry cup of coffee that is their mascot as well as funny saying about caffeine. I do have to say that the English breakfast tea I got was quite strong so I can only imagine the kick to the coffee. Leaving, I made sure to grab an extra cup holder for my car. I now display it proudly next to my Wired Puppy (from Boston) cup holder in my car. Mean? Hardly. This is one of the nicest coffee places I've come across for sure. read more

First off, this place has such an awesome logo! It's so simple, but I absolutely love it. The shop is very welcoming and filled with locals and friendly people. My girlfriend and I came here during our last day in Lancaster and both tried their cold brews. (One plain and one with peanut butter flavor). It was either go back to the hotel or kill a few hours at a cafe, and obviously I decided to do the latter and ended up here. Fantastic choice. Had a chai latte, which was perfectly solid, but to be honest, for me it's more about a comfortable environment at a cafe when I'm only having a drink, and they have that in spades. The space is airy, with high ceilings and tons of natural light. Love the comfortable swivel chairs in the two-tops, and there are several large communal tables and four-tops as well. Plenty of outlets, free and reliable wi-fi, a large parking lot out front (they're in a strip mall), and service is friendly and prompt. If I actually lived here, I'd insist they stay open later than 7 PM, but as it is, they are perfect for what I need. If this place were in LA, I'd be a regular. In fact, I'd probably move in. read more

I was so excited to try Mean Cup after everything that happened this year. I wanted to support locals. Stopped by one Sunday morning with my fiancé. Unfortunately, good coffee doesn't make up for bad experience. The man taking orders was clearly annoyed by the rush. I didn't order extremely fast due to the fact that it was my first time there. Dude at the cash register acted like I was wasting his time. I've worked as a barista before. I understand rush's can be overwhelming but I also know customer service should not decline when busy. If I'm going to buy a $6 latte I'd rather be respected while doing so. read more

I have to admit I haven't fully explored Mean Cup's menu. The first drink I bought from them was a Blackberry Cream Soda and, boy howdy, it was so freakin' good that I haven't even bothered to try anything else. Like I'll be driving around and suddenly crave.. deeply... a Mean Cup Blackberry Cream Soda. I've also had some of their offered sandwiches. They feel a bit overpriced, but I guess when you compare them to Starbucks's pre-made sandwiches the prices are right on target. And they don't skimp with the meat--they are hearty sandwiches. So while I cringe a bit when I see the price, I suppose in today's cafe market they're accurately priced. Staff is always friendly and the atmosphere of the place, as a whole, is excellent. My only complaint is how early they close. If I want to be at a cafe late my options are pretty much limited to Prince St Cafe. Because by the time 6pm rolls around, and I have a lot of writing I need to do, it doesn't make sense to go to a place that closes at 7 (Mean Cup) or 8 (Starbucks). But perhaps there isn't enough cafe demand later than that to support more than one late evening cafe. read more

White Wabbit was extremely good with a white chocolate taste to it. It is definitely a place you can go sit and relax while working on homework or reading a book. I've been here several times now and it's definitely a worthwhile place to check out. Even though it's in the city, it has a parking lot so it's easy to get to...unlike other city cafes. Their coffee is amazing...they do their own roasting....so I'd recommend just going for a cup of regular coffee. They typically have two different roasts brewed for you to choose from. I haven't had much else off their menu since the coffee is such a go-to choice. They do have some food options in their showcase (all cold) usually a cold vegetarian hummus sandwich and pasta salads. I'd recommend getting a half pound or pound of their coffee to take home...my favorite is Hazelnut but White Rabbit is good as well! These can be pricey though...$6.50 or more for a half pound or about $13 for a pound. It's a nice treat to have once in awhile. Also, if you pay with a card, you're probably going to have to pay gratuity...so expect the bill to be higher. As far as the atmosphere goes...it's pretty nice inside. It's a very new cafe so everything feels very clean and fresh. There are huge godzilla paintings on the walls and the rest of the cafe is sort of minimalist. There are a good amount of places to sit and I've seen lots of people in the cafe with their laptops, so I'm assuming they probably have wifi, but I don't know for sure. Since the cafe is located between a yoga studio and F&M most of the customers tend to be hipsterish and trendy. You really get a feel that everyone in the cafe has money. This experience will never make me return again.. I have been into mean cup previously and enjoyed the coffee. Usually my name is taken with my order but with this visit it was not. I ordered a dirty girl. When a dirty girl was called I came and picked up my drink. Come to find out the person in front of me also ordered a dirty girl. But as I approached my car I heard a loud scream, "YOU TOOK THE WRONG DRINK!!" I was so embarrassed that I did walk back in to wind up getting the correct drink but I thought it was very inappropriate and unprofessional for the associate Kate to scream at me in the parking lot that I took the wrong drink when they should have taken my name instead. I was in Lancaster, PA last week and I absolutely liked this coffee shop the first time I was in Lancaster. Needless to say, I had another great consistent experience. I felt adventurous this time around and ordered two non-coffee drinks, a London Fog and a Chai-der . . . mainly because there is a minimum credit card of $5.00 or more. Anyhow, if you don't know what a London Fog is, it is comprised of vanilla extract, earl grey tea, and sugar while the Chaider is a mix of Chai and Apple cider. Anyhow, both drinks are awesome. While this place may not be using haute coffee beans like Supersonic or Inteligentsia, it's a great place with an excellent variety of drinks. I will definitely have to stop at Mean Cup when I'm in the area again. read more

This was the worst cup of "bold coffee" I have ever tasted. We ordered two large bold/strong coffees and received watered down blonde coffee... or should i say "WEAK". I expect that an establishment that just offers coffee should know how to make it well. This is not the case. I will never walk in this place again. We were visiting Lancaster for the weekend and lucked into discovering Mean Cup at the market on Saturday, where we got some amazing coffee and fantastic, incredibly friendly service. My wife got a chai-der - a great combo of chai and cider, and I had a Hawaiian salted caramel latte that was so good I got back in line within ten minutes to order several pounds of their diverse selection of flavors. (Anytime I can get one foodstuff in the form of/with the flavor of another, I will do it, and thus, I'll be drinking some great-smelling Snickerdoodle coffee this week.) We found this location early the next morning and it was everything I've always wanted from (but never found in) a coffee place - wonderful coffee (in addition to two dozen plus flavor shots that all sounded great), a super friendly, incredibly personable staff, and a great layout. I got a few spicy mochas that had a perfect amount of heat, and I only wish I lived nearby so I could be a regular. Can't say enough good things about the staff and the coffee - we'll be here often anytime we're anywhere near the area! read more

Thank goodness for a trendy and cool coffee option near Franklin & Marshall College. This full version store of the Lancaster Central Market stand complements the mean cup brand well. During my visit I was greeted by friendly staff as they promptly took my order. Since the store just opened, the selection of food was limited. I expect that to get better in the upcoming weeks. First, I tried the curried tuna which was excellent. For a drink I had the pumpkin spice flavored coffee. Mean Cup coffee never disappoints and this cup of coffee was one of the best I've had in Lancaster County. Always great coffee at both locations, it's one of the few places were I do not feel it necessary to add cream or sugar, perfect as is. I also enjoy their iced tea blends. I had a vegan sandwich here once too, it made for a decent snack, I might have added a sauce or something I recall it being a little on the dry side. I LOVE mean cup. Their Chai Tea is wonderful, and I love their spiced nuts. It is convenient to be able to go and get work done. The only problem is the hours. I wish they were open later (they close at 5 P.M.). I would love to be able to get work done in the evening hours, but their hours limit that. Most coffee shops stay open until 9 or 10.
