I've worked with Joe on a few projects at my home over the last 12 years and he's always been prompt, effective, careful, and dedicated to achieving an excellent outcome for my tree removal needs. Most recently Joe removed a number of pine trees to open up my views from my hilltop home. He methodically removed all marked trees, safely coordinating their felling, and contemplating the next steps in their processing. Joe bucked the pines into logs that I'm having milled into boards for woodworking projects. He was even concerned about log preparation so that the sawyer had an easy time moving logs. But that's not enough for Joe, he also needed to be sure all cleanup was completed efficiently and effectively too. I can't imagine hiring someone other than Joe. His craftsmanship is impressive and his intellect allows him to see all aspects of a project and determine how he (or others after him) can achieve ultimate efficiency for a good outcome. Additionally, Joe is a "connector" and knows of other experts in related service needs who hold the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail that he fosters in his own work. The tree was quickly removed but it was a 3 star maybe 3.5 star experience because of the additional work needed to coordinate everything. The good: - competitive quote and they were able to come by quickly to assess the work - flexible in bringing equipment that worked with tight openings - main tree removal was done in 5 hours - removed paver stones so they wouldn't be damaged by machinery - friendly and professional. They accommodated a special request to cut a section for a table The bad: - rescheduling was a huge pain. We had to go back and forth for 3 weeks and I had to proactively follow up to confirm if they were coming - unable to grind the stump as part of the initial quote so had to pay another $400 for them to come back with a different machine - never got an invoice despite asking for one multiple times To summarize, this seems to be a nice family business that has experience removing trees quickly. He showed up for one day of work, during which his machine broke down, and he completed only about 25% of the removal job(have not started on stump grinding yet). He then pressured my elderly parents, who are both in their eighties and suffer from Alzheimer's, into paying him $2,000. They are not in a condition to handle high-pressure situations, and I was not present at the time. Given that $2,000 significantly exceeded the value of the work completed, the contractor happily chose not to return and instead began making a series of excuses. At one point, he offered to refund $1,000, but when I tried to collect the refund, he changed his story again saying he will come back to finish but stopped responding to me. It appears he does not keep his words, lie consistently, and is willing to take advantage of vulnerable people whenever the opportunity arises.
