This is just an amazing company! The owner is kind and open to your opinions and he then also gives you what he thinks. They did an amazing job trimming my huge trees and they also do such a great job cleaning up. Their prices are very fair. I would use MDL again in a heartbeat. An honest and fair company! read more

Matt is a great guy and one of the hardest working individuals I know. It might take a while to call back but it's worth the wait for me .

Several neighbors mentioned that I should call MDL to have trees removed and trimmed. However, I was warned that I would have a tough time getting them to respond and keep appointments. The warnings turned out to be accurate. I had an appointment missed, and then after a couple more calls and leaving messages, I got a return call that was less than friendly. After that, I left a couple more messages, and no return calls. I don't feel I should fight that hard to spend my well earned money. So I will find another service. read more

The crew came in and removed 6 trees and stumped them all in about 1 hour. Quick and clean.

I would not recommend MDL. They refused to come out for the removal of just one large Maple tree. They only wanted jobs with multiple trees to take down for more $$$. It's a shame because they came highly recommended. Again, I would not recommend. read more

MDL came out on a Saturday and removed a large, dying, 70 year old silver maple from my front yard and trimmed along a fence. The owner and crew were professional, efficient and cleaned up before they left. I will use them again in the future. read more

I also would give them a big fat zero re: firewood. If you are looking for firewood you actually want to burn this winter season do NOT order from this company. If you want to stare at it in your firewood rack and burn it next year then go right ahead and call them. If you want to attempt to light it and cake up your chimney with creosote and set fire to your house, by all means order from them. It's GREEN as the GRINCH, WET as SALT CREEK. They dump and run and don't warn you it's green. They actually had the nerve to tell my 76 year old Dad they are not in the business of storing firewood and he should've called two months earlier, so I guess that means their firewood customers are in charge of seasoning MDL's "firewood", which was probably a tree they cut down last week! It seems firewood customers are merely a disposal service for the trees they cut down. BTW always ask if the wood you are buying has been seasoned at least six months. You shouldn't burn wood that hasn't been dried for at least six months. Don't waste your money! Useless until winter 2020. Clearly they should not be in the business of selling firewood. read more

Could not be happier with Matt and his crew from MDL Tree Service! Fast, efficient, responsive, courteous, nice guys who really know what they are doing -- and extremely affordable (less than half of what other services quoted!). Had the three trees removed (big 50+ year old ash, 35 foot pine, and a 25 year old birch). Grinded stumps and cleaned everything up nice, plus pruned a linden tree. In and out in about three hours. Would not hesitate a second to use them again or recommend them to anyone else. read more

This review is solely based on a phone conversation I had with Matt. First of all, it took him 4 days to call me back after I'd left 2 voicemails. I understand it was right after the new year, but you're running a business and not returning phone calls is unprofessional. Second, once he finally called back, he was rude when I said we'd found someone already. He says he doesn't like to work in Chicago anyway (really??) ok, thanks, I'll make sure to never use you in the future. The three stars are only because of the returned phone call. read more

The guy called me back right away regarding some brush I had already cut down 11 boxwood trees and a bunch of small trees .I had arranged for us to have them outside in front and he was going to come pick them up before a job I goofed and forgot to leave them out in front, him and his guys came early in the morning and grabbed everything from the yard, we're done in 20 minutes and the price was very reasonable !!I highly recommend these guys I will definitely be using them in the future thank you so much MDL for your fast response and coming through read more

I would give a zero but it's not an option. Matt and a few others came to cut down some trees, first of all they didn't even cut them down enough like requested and second matt drove his machine through my yard (which was not an issue) the problem I had was I had a small garden with flowers and tomatoes (cages around them) they ripped off the cages, bent them took my small fence down, tossed it across the yard then drove the machine right over and completely crushed my tomato plants and flowers! I was not home at the time but heard later that one of the guys said "well the tomatoes aren't growing yet and it's the end of the season" ARE YOU SERIOUS? UNBELIEVABLE! I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone! Just destroy my things and leave? Extremely unprofessional and careless about other people's property! If I could post a photo it would show how much destruction was done. read more

MDL did some extensive tree removal for us at a very low price, compared to all the other estimates. I would DEFINITELY recommend them, but I will say there was a bit of confusion on their part of what was supposed to be removed. (We went over it all very thoroughly when Matt came out for the estimate, but he did not mark any of the trees. Two of them were marked from a previous estimator with another company.) Due to all the bad weather, the part of my yard where the two biggest trees were was underwater for quite a while. Through no fault of their own, it was about a month before MDL could get a team back out to do the actual work. Most of the trees were removed as requested but some that we had agreed would be removed were left. He sent a team back out to cut them, at his own cost. He asked me to clearly mark the areas they missed with bright colored spray paint so it wouldn't happen again. I would absolutely use them again, but I think I would make sure it is very clearly marked at the time the estimate was done. Admittedly, it probably would have been a non-issue for someone only removing 1 or 2 trees. We surely will use them again if and when we need another removal, or a mulch delivery. read more

Matt and his crew came out to remove two mature trees in our back yard. One tree was probably 80+ years old with a 9-10' circumference. The other was probably around 60+ about 60' tall. Both trees and stumps were gone in just a few hours...and everything was done professionally. Matt and his team moved things out of the way and put them back where they were. Additionally, they cleaned off our driveway of the debris as well as blew off all porches. I saw one guy cleaning debris out from under the car parked close to the street in our driveway even. They were thorough! Mdl's price was reasonable and we would definitely request his services again. read more

We actually saw them cutting down and removing a stump at a neighbors home and I just asked for a quote and from there he gave us a deal we couldn't refuse for cutting down 3 trees and 5 bushes! They are very affordable and quick while working! I will be using them again in the future for mulch. read more

I would certainly recommend MDL. What a great guy Matt is. The work they did was amazingly fast and you couldn't even tell they were there after they left. I got quotes from two other companies. One was higher and the other lower. I decided to go in the middle...After hearing stories on the other two I'm so glad I went with MDL. Working in the Customer Service field myself, I take being on the receiving end of bad Customer Service very seriously. MDL have terrible customer service. I will not be using them again. They did a fine job on the tree I had trimmed (only after I corrected him that I did NOT want the tree removed and only wanted it trimmed), gave me attitude about coming back again to re-asses based on only a trim, gave me attitude about asking for an invoice (twice). Literally every time I spoke with "Matt" on the phone and had a question or... I don't know... Needed something called "customer service"... You know, where your customer needs service... I got a response somewhere along these lines "Sir, it's 9:30 pm. I've been out in the field all day. I've got over 150 other phone calls to return here. I don't know if they're someone with a tree in their house, or someone asking for an invoice. What do you want." Wow. If I spoke to even one of my customers in that manner once (let alone 3-4 times), I'd have been out of a job 20 years ago. I'm sure Matt will not miss one lowly customer from his clearly budding enterprise, but I would not recommend MDL Tree Service if you are in fact looking for service. The key word being "Service". Not "customer service" mind you (clearly a lost art these days anyways), but if you are simply looking for someone to remove your.... Oops I mean trim your tree (sorry, I almost mixed that one up myself now!!! What a laugh that would have been! My dear!) with a nice side of "angry at the world for doing what is in the name of my business", then Matt is your guy. Just don't ask him for an invoice. read more
