The provider and tech were nice, but the admin staff felt very uninviting. Their website/system for completing paperwork apparently didn't work, so I had to do everything again. They also text patients asking for personal information, which was uncomfortable. Even after I told them my availability for a phone call to discuss it instead, they didn't honor that request. The checkout experience was the worst part. The lady told me, "We will charge you if another place messes up your glasses," which came across as threatening and pushy -- like I'd be punished for not ordering through them. I only came in to renew my prescription. Overall, not a welcoming experience and I would not recommend this office to a friend. And also, the provider writes a year rx for eyeglasses? Really? It's 2 years at other places. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

My husband and I have been going to McNeel Eye Center for years and are so happy with their professionalism, great service, and friendliness! Dr. McNeel and team have been nothing but helpful, thorough and gracious! Too bad some folks gave terrible reviews... Honestly, if any errors have been made, they are quick to resolve even if it's not their fault and are out of their control. People make mistakes, but how they handle them and correct them is what matters. No one is perfect. I went here for a routine checking up and to update my glasses. I had amazing service. When it was time for me to choose my frames, two ladies, one was being trained, gave me full attention. Helping me with styles, what looked good on my face. Going through prices and what worked for me. It was my first time here so I dont know if I was given amazing treatment because I had an associate being trained or because that is just their service. Paid for my whole exam, contacts etc. They said I overpaid - refunded me, then call saying I have a balance ?! What ? Ridiculous. It was their ERROR. They said oops we shouldn't of refunded you... I don't have time to deal with other companies incompetence and playing phone tag - when I paid it and they refunded it on their ERROR. I had lasik done in feb 2010. It wore off after about 2 years. I recently called the VA to get a consult to get lasik again, but by a civilian dr. I was referred to mcneel. After getting my eyes checked and dilated he came in. I told him I had lasik done before and it wore off, but I figured it was because it was on base so that I was hoping to have it done again by a civilian dr. He started telling me that basically I'm not qualified due to getting lasik already and that the flaps would have to be redone and the VA doesn't pay for it so I would have to. Then says he would be surprised if they did pay for it. He then tells me I would have to go to either San Diego or Colorado to get it done because I'm going through the VA. If he had talked down to me anymore then he was it would have been completely rude and all I wanted to do was punch him though I didn't. He completely lacks customer service and patient skills. If I had only seen him and NOT Mathew (awesome guys!!!), I would have rated this place a 1. DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more

I haven't been to the eye doctor since I was a kid, and figured i'm paying for it every year I might as well make an appointment. they got me right in within the week, which was convenient. keep in mind, they are mask required in order to enter. they gave me one when I got there because I wasn't wearing one. I was asked on the paperwork if I wanted to do a special eye test that costed $30 and would give the doctor a good look of my entire eye (from inside). I opted to pay for it, because I hadn't been in so long, but it's nice they gave you the option on if you want to or not. probably should have said no. the doctor was friendly. I wish I had gotten her name? I don't remember. she was informative and easy to talk to. she did a series of tests and they determined my vision was 20/20. I was happy to hear it. then they asked me if I wanted glasses? this is the part i'm confused on. why would I need glasses if I had good vision? they said, well, your vision will be even better, and your insurance covers it anyway. ok then. they brought me over to the side filled with glasses and a very nice saleswoman sold me on a pair of glasses I don't even think I need. it felt awkward to say no thank you, it was like "ok here's the part where you pick out your glasses!" and I went with it because I didn't really get it I guess. my total for the appointment, the special eye test, and the glasses was $118. not bad, but would have been cheaper if I hadn't been suckered into buying something I didn't need. live and learn. i'm going to pick up my pointless glasses, i'm curious if they even have prescription lenses in them at all. read more

Amazingly poor service, poor pricing & low quality products. Do not recommend this source for eye care or products. Eye eXam felt callously administered. Eyewear choices seem not that broad a selection, often same frame over and over. Wait time was excessive between fitting and delivery - 3 weeks! Both glasses I purchased fell off my face within a month. Scratched to distraction. Paid six hundred for two frames with RX lenses to have them scratched up and bent and me irritated. read more

The doctor didn't perform the eye exam. It was the tech. The doctor merely looked at my eyes with the light and said there were no changes in my vision even though I hadn't been to the eye doctor in 2-3 years and I have been experiencing vision issues. Didn't look over paperwork. Felt rushed and then didn't receive assistance when looking for eyeglasses. Also the additional $30 fee for "contact fitting" (when I already had contacts) is a joke. I have been going to McNeel's for years and have always had good service, until my last visit. However, I showed up 15 minutes before my appointment, and about 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment, Matthew finally asked me why I was still sitting in the waiting room. Then when my glasses finally came in (a week late) they were not what I ordered, and had to be sent back. Then a week later was notified that they were back and ready for pick up. But when I got there my glasses were not there, and the message that they were ready was sent in error. Still waiting for them, not sure whats going on with McNeel eye center, but I'm a very unhappy customer. read more

I am giving McNeel Eye Center a coveted 5 star rating because my wife and I think there is no equal in Boise or even Idaho! They really care, they explain every step and unlike some of the cookie cutter eye care centers we have used in the past they are able to answer every question and concern. I'm confused as to why this place has such good reviews. I chose this office because of the positive reviews online, but from the moment I walked into my appointment I was less than impressed. The customer service is terrible, I felt like I was being pushed into paying for very expensive contacts and then after declining, it seemed like the doctor wanted nothing to do with me. The front desk person is "spacey" and lacks professionalism. He admits over the phone, multiple times that he is bad at multi-taking and clearly overwhelmed. Worst of it all, I was lll-advised and lost out on being able to use my insurance credit for my contact order. Even though I clearly stated what I wanted to do with my credit. Now I have to pay $60 more for my contacts because this office failed to do their job. Disappointing read more

I waited 2 weeks for an appointmrnt for dry eyes. I had just seen the eye doctor at Costco where she also works. I was booked for a complete eye exam even though I told them i had just had one and needed an appt for dry eyes to try a new medicine called Cequa. I was told that they had expetience prescribing the medicine and could provide free samples. When i arrived for my appointment they tried to give me a complete eye exam and i told them i had made an appointment for dry eyes and just had a regular full exam at her Costco location. They tolr me they booked the appointment wtong anf it was a Saturday so i would have to pay cash or reschedule. I told them i drove 50 miles and that i had tried restasis and wanted to try Cequa eye drops. I said i would like some samples until i can be seen again. They refused even though they had just given me a full exam the month before. read more

This is the best eye Doctor I have ever been too. He listens!! He explains what he is doing and is truly concerned about your eyes. I picked up my contacts the next day, they were bi focal and I've never worn them before. When I was picking them up Dr McNeel saw me, called me by name and asked me to come back to his office to see how I like the new contacts. One was just a touch weak so he grabbed a stronger one and had me try that. They worked great. He then gave me a new solution and storage tray he wanted me to try. He really took the time to answer all my questions. Asked me to try these for a week or so and then he said we would order the contacts if I like them. The staff is sincerely nice, I hate the fake nice :). I didn't order glasses but was very impressed with the selection they had, even a large section for children. I would highly recommend Dr. McNeel and his staff and will be back for sure. read more

My daughter, grandson & I have recently had exams/purchased eye glasses from McNeel Eye Center for the very first time. I was so impressed with the courtesy, friendliness & professionalism of the staff as well as the eye doctors. Everyone from the front desk to the optical department staff were so helpful. Everyone seems friendly but if you go here make sure you know they will nickel and dime you. If you wear contacts you will have to pay a separate fee of $35. For the picture of your eye it is an extra $30. I wish these things had been explained to me upfront or I would have gone somewhere else. read more

Walked out 20 mins after my scheduled appointment time with no one acknowledging that there would be a long delay and no one else in the lobby. 20 mins is too long to wait. My time is valuable too!
