Honest review: this an amazing place to come in if you are looking for a great afternoon/evening or night experience and have a bit extra time to wait for food while enjoying great drinks. The service is really nice and responsive - especially if you have Jackie or Nicole serving on you. They are super sweet, but it is easy to get them confused as they are identical twins. However, that only makes the experience more fun! As a beer drinker, I have to say - their beer selection is AMAZING! From wheat beer to sours, ciders and IPAs... everyone can find their favorites. When it comes to food, for appetizers their cajun tots and hummus plates are awesome and if you are a bread person, make sure to try their pretzel sticks with delicious rich cheesy sauce. They have a fantastic burger and sandwich selection but as a vegetarian I would highly recommend one of their healthier options such as falafel gyros or aztec salad with avocado in it. Yum! And as for the dessert, I would definitely recommend their black and tan brownie which comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side covered by caramel sauce. Delicious! This was our second stop on our first date... Apparently, I didn't screw up nor did this place. We talked with the bartender for a few minutes because the choices were so abundant. He asked us a few questions and made a few suggestions. We settled on Monkey Puzzles. Let me tell you, no puzzle involved but has a good kick to it. Sweet, smooth and little bit of a bite back. Conclusion: Left around $25.00 with tip and a good feeling about this place. If this was the day for a kidney extraction, I was going out in style and a buzz. A girlfriend and I stopped by the bar tonight to get drinks. It was our first time here. We sat at the bar and the bartender asked in an aggressive tone to see our IDs. She was not very warm or welcoming, but I just brushed it off thinking I misread the situation. When she comes back to take our order, I tell her that I would like to try scotch and haven't had it before. She starts telling us that we should go to The Shed as they have more options. Well, my friend and I were already seated and wanted to stay there, so I asked if she had any Scotch on the shelf and if so, what she recommends. In a now even louder tone she says that they do have scotch, but "she does not have the time to explain it to us and that if we want a recommendation we should go to The Shed." I have NEVER had anyone talk to me like this before let alone tell us to go spend our money elsewhere. My eyes must have been coming out of their sockets due to my shock that she then added "I'm just trying to be honest." This has been by far the worst customer service and I wish I could have taken her name then, but was in shock by her behavior. A blonde female bartender in a pink sweater could describe half the people that night. The customer service here is hit and miss. If you hire people for a position please make the hire based on if they're fit for service. They are the face of your business! Overall this past experience was a one star but I am giving two stars as my first experience in the "shed" was amazing! Our past experience we visited on a Saturday at 1:20pm. It took our server 10+ minutes to acknowledge that we were even sitting there and another 10+ to get the first drinks. After sitting on the bar the old fashion was extremely watered down while I will say the French Martini was delightful (again the positives). The table across from me sat dirty from the time we walked in at 1:20 till the time we were ready to pay our tab at 2:04. After sitting there with our dirty plates stacked and drinks empty our waitress finally came over to ask if we would like our bill as soon as she dropped the check, she walked out for 8 minutes while we sat in disbelief. I came here with a group after having drinks at the Tavern across the way. The food here is much more reasonable than at the tavern. I had a beer here. I had the nitro blonde. This was mediocre at best. If you're into beer there are plenty of breweries a short drive away to woodinville. I had a pizza for dinner. I had the white rabbit. This had red peppers, garlic, mozzarella and artichokes on it. It was pretty good. It cost about $13, which is more reasonable than the tavern. This place had pool tables, shuffleboard and other bar type games. One of the downsides is it is really loud, especially the music. We could hardly hear each other talk in there. This is a really cool spot to hang out. I had dates, business meetings and just plain hanging out with my friends playing board games. The fire pits outside are perfect for having conversations and warming up or you can go inside and play some pool, shuffle board or pinball. The Nachos and the Cajun tots are simply amazing! My friends seem to like the blackberry cider too. And as far as servers go Elisabeth is the best always friendly and attentive, too bad she won't join us on our game of Uno. Overall definitely worth checking it out if you are looking for a good spot to relax and enjoy the afternoon or evening, And while you are at it go around and try the other spots around the school, you are sure to find one you like! read more

Terrible terrible service and food was nothing special. My boyfriend and I were last night, about an hour and a half before closing time, and we were pretty much ignore by the waitress and the staffs. When we arrived, we asked for a table as their little sign stated. She just said we can sit wherever and just walked off. We seated ourselves inside by the window. Then we scanned the menu with the phone and waited for someone to come get our orders or at least check in on us. No one came by for at least 15 minutes. We tried to wave at the waitress, and she either didn't see us or completely ignored us for whatever reason. This is all given that the place wasn't even that packed or busy at all. The workers have time to chitchat, sing, and crack jokes. Eventually, my boyfriend went up to the bar and ordered our food and paid. Food came out pretty slow too. After we got our food, again one checked in on us or came by again to see if we needed anything. What's really perplexing to us is that the waitress went around all the other tables and check in on them. She just completely walks by our table and ignored us. Not even a smile- nothing. I have no idea what we did wrong or why we were treated so poorly. I can see why the reviews are not so great now. We wanted to love this place since we live so close by and even wanted to come check out their theater. But given this experience with the staffs, we won't ever be returning. Started off sitting at a the bar. Had a good bartender and good beer. Then we moved to a table. The waitress greeted us and took drink orders. We didn't see her again for about 15-20min. She then came back and said that she was waiting on the bar to make our drinks. Oh well not too worried about that. Drinks came. Food order was taken. Then again we didn't see our waitress for 25min. Everyone's drink was empty for 15min and we were never checked on. Finally we waved her down and go more drinks ordered. Food came, Nachos we're missing salsa and we didn't receive silver ware. Took 15min to get the waitress back to tell her what was needed. At this point people had just eaten without the things we needed. Moral of the story is don't eat here. First -- this place is a great addition to the Bothell neighborhood, and if you're just looking for a cozy place to drink, walk around, or play shuffleboard/pool, this is awesome. The beer isn't great, but they have decent seasonals from time to time. The service is, as everyone else says, terrible. I am blown away by this place's inability to cash in on an absolute gold mine. They're routinely packed, everyone wants to eat, yet the ownership seems to be absolutely no emphasis on training their staff, or even hiring enough people. This place is SO understaffed, and it's a very easy solution -- they're busting at the seams with people on many nights, yet they just..refuse to hire more people, or even train them. It's bizarre. And the food is really, really bad -- poorly executed, lazy. Minimal efforts to the kitchen staff would make it an option, but as of now it's not, which is a bummer. I want to emphasize that I like this place, and enjoy going here as long as I don't have to eat. Yes, it was a Saturday night and yes they were busy. We had a large group of 15+ and they tried to make a reservation and they said they didn't take reservations. We had to hunt down our server multiple times to even place a drink order. Then another 20 minute wait to place the food order, even though we tried to order when we placed the drink order and he said he would be back. Food was forgotten, and then more waiting for another drink order. It seemed very disorganized and the crew seemed like they wanted to be anywhere else but at work. The food was decent but definitely nothing to write home about. We left before even asking for a manager to talk about our experience because we had waiting too long for everything anyway. We were part of a birthday party and we couldn't even all sit together because they wouldn't let us make a reservation or put our name down to make sure there was ample seating. I hate to say this, but the food and service quality took a nosedive a couple of months after opening. It's not just the changes made to happy hour (increased prices, fewer days, excludes weekday holidays), food and service are sincerely lacking. The last five times I've gone to McMenamins, I keep telling myself I should stop going. The service has been slow. I've spent a lot of time working FOH food service, and while I can understand that a lot is going on behind the scenes, I'm still saying the service is slow. The servers appear experienced enough, but their sections seem to be too large for each individual to handle well. When my food arrives, it's sloppy - burger's falling apart, food obviously thrown on the plate in a rush. My burgers haven't arrived to my table at the correct temp for a while. My worst experience at this place: my husband and I sat at an outdoor table for lunch. It was probably during a shift turnover, but this type of service is inexcusable. I ordered an iced coffee and pretzel sticks when the server arrived at our table without menus...we never saw her again. A different waitress brought our drinks to us 20 minutes after we ordered them. The pretzel sticks took 45 minutes to get to our table and when we flagged down other servers to try to order lunch, we were told she would be by shortly - she never came back. We left cash on the table and left without the bill because no one seemed to know what was going on. Good grief, the FOH *and* BOH management need to get it together. 2/5 stars because I know this place can do better, I've experienced it once upon a time. read more

Five stars for the building, the atmosphere, and how much fun this place is to have in Bothell for sitting down in a small or large group to have a few drinks and conversation. I can't stress enough that as a long-time resident of the Bothell area, McMenamins is exactly what Bothell needed -- casual but lively, and because of the company's dedication to merging with the community and preserving treasured locations such as the Anderson School, the Wood Shop especially is, to me, the town's public house. Four stars for the good food off the pub menu, and especially the beers brewed on-site --there's something on tap for every taste in addition to full bar and the typical selection of mixed drinks and hard liquor. I've had the Irish Reuben, the Ale-Battered Fish & Chips and the Wilbur burger (with bacon, cheddar & a fried egg) -- all very good. Nevertheless, three stars for the service. Sometimes nice, sometimes snarly, but even the friendly staff seem to be lacking a bit of polish. Also, the "no kids" policy for using the pool tables -- at any hour -- seems a bit restrictive, though I know there be a bad story that leads to keeping anyone under 18 from playing, even with adult supervision. I guess a few bad folks spoil it for the rest of us. That nets out to 4 stars. If the managers spent a little time working up the serving teams. it might push up to a 5-star rating. But since we've experienced the same grade of service in other McMenamins we've been to, I won't hold my breath. Still, we'll keep coming back. read more

The food sat for a long time before being brought to our table and the bun to my burger was liquefied gross. The burger was over cooked and the fries were worse than a fast food place. Dark brown, wet from something, and just soggy. After requesting new fries the waitress made a huge deal that the "chef" lmao would bring new fries out. I am not sure why they think cooks are chefs but okeeeeee whatever dudes. The food quality def doesn't match the place at all! Basically the management sucks if the staff and food suck so bad. I really want to like this place. It's only 5 minutes from my house, it has a great atmosphere and I grew up eating at places like Dad Watson's and Six Arms. I have been here probably 7 or 8 times, and each time I hope that I will be pleasantly surprised, yet here I am-leaving a 1 star review at my table next to the billiards because of our experience is so disappointing I want to make sure I can get everything down before I leave. Every single time we come here, our server forgets to put in something from our order. Last time, it was the berry dessert bar. We waited 15 minutes and our server was nowhere to be found. I eventually just asked the bartender to ring us out so we could finally leave. This time, it was an appetizer. Our food came about 25-30 minutes after ordering. This time our server remembered the berry dessert bar that was ordered, but we wished she hadn't; it tasted like a Nutrigrain bar that got nuked in the microwave and plopped next to a scoop of ice cream. The last 2 times I've been, I ordered the same Mexican salad. Both times they arrived to the table missing ingredients. I see that I'm not the only one leaving bad Yelp reviews, I would've hoped that they would improve over the course of a year. Maybe that's wishful thinking. Service is hit or miss. I'd say, 1/3 of employees are apathetic, 1/3 visible despise their jobs and being at work, and the other 1/3 are so busy holding the place together that you never even see them come up for air. Long story short, I wasted $50 tonight, and probably a few hundred from previous visits. I should've stuck to the three-strike rule and given up a long time ago. I won't be returning. read more

One of these stars is simply for the facts my company was 5 stars and they did just open a few months ago, the other is for the food which was fine. So.... where to begin... WTF with the super confusing seating by the host(ess) you walk in, no sign where the host station is, it was so crowded that we had to track down an employee - it's hard to tell who they are- and then were helped eventually find her and get our names on a list. Note you need to provide your phone# and they send you a text when your table is ready, but didn't really say that, so apparently, don't wait for a call, it'll be a text. Then we tried to order a beer at the bar while we waited, but no... that wasn't possible, the bartenders ignored my lovely friend waiting there as though they were invisible. Then we found seats at the bar, surely there we could have a drink? No. No drinks for us still, no acknowledgment, nothing. We were thankfully called to the table quicker than the 30 minutes as it was so overcrowded with the pool tables and such that it was just a bit of a clusterfuck from beginning to end. Then we followed our super young looking gum smacking (gross) runner/bar back to a table that... hadn't' been cleared, so we had to stand there while he cleared it. We sat down and when someone approached WE COULD FINALLY HAVE A DRINK, yes? No. All the nervous, overworked and perspiring server said was 'Were you seated by the host?!' as though we'd stolen the table from some more deserving folks. We answered 'Yes, we're official' thinking this would again be the code words that would unlock a magical beverage but NO. NO BEVERAGE. He walked off without another word. Finally, five or so minutes later, he did return and said 'since you're official, I can take your drink order maybe?' and then after another 15 minutes, we did indeed get a drink. But when it wasn't what we expected, and asked, he knew literally NOTHING about their beer and took it back just to bring it back again saying indeed, it was the Ruby (which is not a red ale, btw, but a raspberry infused lager.) I could keep going on the lack of service, but I will let it go, I ordered and asked for the caesar salad not to be on top of my sandwich as it's served (WTF?) but it came that way anyway. Eventually, we got a random server who walked by and knew about the beer when there was another confusing delivery of beer laced with pumpkin without that in it's name. Pros: Ambience was cool & the beer was delicious (even though they were out of my 1st choice). Cons: Access was difficult & parking insufficient. There was no signage to direct visitors so we had to circle the complex and kept running into locked doors. Food: Portion sizes were small (entree salad in a soup bowl?) especially considering the prices. Each one of the six in our party found our food to be WAY over salted. The kitchen staff needs to throw away their salt shakers. Service: The worst. Over 90 minutes for lunch? unacceptable. My sister and I stayed the night at Anderson School and grabbed dinner in the Woodshop. The hostess sat us in the bar directly next to the shuffleboard table... wah wah. The men playing were obnoxiously loud, and in my humble opinion, way too drunk. She might be the greatest server I have ever had at any McMenamins location. Unfortunately the manager, who was also tending bar, didn't seem to care that they were being so insanely loud. Owell, we ordered our food, fish & chips, and the Pretzel appetizer. Both were very good, and just what we expected. We finished dinner, and realized that happy hour was going to start in less than 45mins we wanted to grab a couple drinks before calling it a night, but decided to close out, head back to the room, and come back for happy hour once our food had settled. We did just that. We sat in the farthest section from the shuffleboard table we could manage, and Taishi was our server. He took a little bit to get to us, but thats ok, he seemed to have a large section. He came to take our order, I got a whiskey sour from the well, and my sister got a vodka and 7 from the well. We also decided to order a couple of food items, because we're grown ups and we wanted pizza at 11:30pm!!! My sister ordered the slice of pizza and a Caesar salad, I got the Woodshop salad. This is where things get frustrating..... Our server was great, he had no control over the "pizza" he served... if you can call it that. The best description I can come up with is, "almost ok enough to be served in an elementary school cafeteria.... almost." It really was awful. It was soggy, greasy, with way too much sauce. I do not recommenced the pizza. The Caesar salad was good. The Woodshop salad...... NOPE! I just checked their online menu and their description seems to have changed since we ate here, which is a start... sorta. I ordered the happy hour "Woodshop salad" and expected it to be a smaller portion of their "Woodshop salad..." it was not. The main menu listed the salad as having pickled onions, spiced walnuts, cranberries, and a Rudy vinaigrette. What I got was romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and ranch dressing. I did complain, they did take it back, and I was not charged. But I will say their new menu listing for the Woodshop salad is a bummer. Costs more, but you get less... wah wah... I love me some spiced nuts. The cocktails presented an issue too. First, they were completely un-garnished, and had no straws. My sisters was fine, hard to mess up a well vodka & 7. My whiskey sour however ended up have a $1 up-charge because they make their own sour (which is very sour... too sour....) I am a bartender, if someone orders a well drink from me and its going to cost more than the advertised "well drink price," I would let them know that their is a $1 up-charge, that is just a common courtesy. I brought it up as something to keep in mind when someone else orders one in the future, our server admitted he did not know their was an up-charge for sour, and apologized, which was awesome... however, the bar manager gave me quite a bit of attitude and made sure I knew about how they make their own sour with fresh squeezed lemons and limes, so of course its going to cost more... I got it, just let the customer know... and add a little more simple syrup next time. Two really hard working servers with great attitudes don't make up for the rest of it. I had heard that the service here was lacking but decided to give it a shot with my dad for lunch! Immediately when we walked in, it was clear to see its a popular spot! There were two giant tables with about 14 people so I already expected the food to take slightly longer (as it would with any restaurant). We waited for about 10 minutes and no one came to see us or brought us a menu. Thankfully, I had heard the service could be slow so I decided to speak up and approached one of the servers, her name is Hannah. She informed me that our table was not her section but gave me a couple menus and said she would send our server right over from our section. About 5 minutes goes by and the server still hadn't even greeted us yet. Hannah luckily came over to check on us and asked if the server had been by. We told her no and she said that she would just take over our table! Thankful she did! Hannah came over multiple times to check on us, communicated when the food was coming out, checked back to see if we needed more drinks and was very attentive. She is the sole reason our visit was saved! The food was also quite good- I had the burger and it was delicious. My dad got the meatball pizza and also enjoyed it (but said it is spicy!) I think if you come here, don't be passive aggressive and sulk at your table if no one helps you. Make sure you inform them of your arrival and ask for help before complaining! They're very accommodating and Hannah is extremely friendly. If you can sit in her section, make sure you do!
