I have been coming here once a month for about a year and a half. Most of the time I have good food and service (I almost always just get the cajun tots) but this time I tried the queen Ann grilled cheese from the woodshop. Service was again good, they have great mojitos, and the tots were good as usual. The grilled "cheese" was the worst I have ever had! When I get a grilled cheese I expect it to actually have cheese, I want that pull of bread to be stringed together with dairy delishousness. This didn't appear to have much cheese at all, if any. Also the pesto was thicker than the soggy bread, and the pesto and tomato were only on the very center, at about 30% coverage of bread. So it turned out to be a soggy mess of flavored bread. Nasty nasty! I will still come back (for the drinks and atmosphere) but unlikely to get food again. read more

First time here to watch the Husky game and not a great experience. Staff was okay and food was so so. We ordered the Dungeons burger and I would recommend the Cajun tots. Do not order from the Libations menu. I had the Harvest Sangria and for $14 dollars it was juice with ice. I made mention of this to Jason and he said usually it has more ice. This was not resolved or handled well. I then voiced my concern to Madeline and she asked what I would like to drink next and just encouraged me to get another drink while paying for both. Did not resolve the problem drink. The draft list has some standard options and great variety. Atmosphere is fun and inviting! The waitress we had was spectacular. The peachy keen and old fashion drinks were fantastic. We ordered some apps, the pretzels and scoobie snacks (mini corn dogs), they were good for sharing. However, the burgers all lacked flavor. We ordered three different ones and were not very happy with any of them. The Cajun fries and tots though were delicious. Great location, but all of McMenamins could use more parking. They have plenty of seating at the Woodshop, but it is a popular, central part of the campus so sometimes there is a wait. Dogs are allowed at the outdoor area. The staff are nice, but they can be rushed at times-- I feel like they need a few more hands. The Woodshop has really great food and ambiance with service that needs great improvement, logistics that need better organization and management that needs additional training. First, the pros. I am a huge fan of pretzel bread and they have really amazing pretzel sticks that are like breadsticks, thick/chewy/soft. They come with a spicy mustard and soft, hot melted cheese. The pretzels are covered in the strong salt that works magic with that pretzel flavor. They just mesh well perfectly. Also, the famous tater tots that they claim are spicy but aren't in any way, shape or form are really good. It's basically just a plate of tots with tarter sauce with a little Lawry's Seasoning Salt or their version thereof, but they tasted great. We got the black and tan brownie which comes with caramel and vanilla bean ice cream. Also, very tasty. We asked to sit outside once we found the hostess stand which is in the middle of a sidewalk, in front of the indoor seating area with the pool tables. The outdoor seating is on the sidewalk as well as amongst some evergreens with the wood burning firepits. The three people standing at the host stand stared at the screen for five minutes before we were acknowledged then told it would be a 20 minute wait. We got a text on my phone when a table opened up. When we walked back to the host stand, they were helping a couple people ahead of us and not paying attention that we were there. We stood there for another few minutes, even with me saying "Hey" and waving my hands till a host finally saw me and seated us. We were seated outside like we asked by a firepit, which was really cool. It's super dark out there at night so we had to use the light from our phones to see the menu but didn't care, we liked the ambiance of the fires and the low lights in the garden. The waiter was a young guy who was either new to being a waiter and/or new to working in general. He took a very long time between taking our drink order, our food order, checking on us and refilling drinks. He was friendly and eager to please but feel short. We saw him do some extra flirting with some girls his age (I'm old enough to be his mother) at the table next to us, yet almost ignore a quiet couple on the other side of us. Also, he pulled a move that I don't know was because of his ignorance or was trying to be sly. He asked us if we wanted ice cream with the brownie, and we said yes - it states that on the menu. When the server brought the food, there was the scoop of ice cream next to the brownie and then an additional scoop in a separate bowl. When I got the check, he charged us extra for the scoop. Not cool. Poor service. You either didn't know the menu or you were being an ass, and I really want to give you the benefit of the doubt. My husband inhaled that ice cream so I didn't complain. In addition, when we asked for a separate dessert menu because the dinner menu didn't have any desserts listed, he argued with us then pointed at the menu to tell us where the desserts were.... and there weren't any there. Took him about 15 minutes to get the dessert menu. When the server brought out our food, he was totally lost. He didn't know what table he was delivering the food to. He went to one table by us, then another and then finally saw me waving at him. Another time, a manager showed up at our table with two drinks. Told her nope, not for us. She just stared at me. My husband told her again, we didn't order the drinks. She walked over to the table next to us; nope. She argued with them, and the customers told her no, they had their drinks. She wandered over to another table by us and finally got the right table. The parking lot is huge but it was crammed. We had to park out in the furthest corner on a Friday night. I'd recommend making reservations which you can do for another restaurant here and dropping off your party if you're driving then hoofing it in. Or there's always Uber. The parking is free though. All in all, we would come back because the food and the ambiance was that good. A group of four met here for dinner to catch up on life. The traffic around this place was horribly congested. Traffic may have been due to the construction going on. Whatever the cause, traffic is frustrating. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Be patient while searching for a spot. It took us awhile to find our spot. Tabs were easily split. Discover was an accepted form of payment. Happy Hour runs Monday-Friday from 3pm-6pm then again from 10pm-12am. The inside of this bar is 21+; however, family seating can be found outside. There are a couple different types of dining venues on site: bar food (this place) and a place that serves plated types of food (pasta etc...). All the walkways have been converted to outdoor seating which offers plenty of shade, sun and heaters for those who enjoy dining outside. For drinks we ordered pints of brew for $4.75 (hh) and glasses of wine for $6.75 (hh). Happy hour is determined by the time on the computer station so allow your server some time to enter ones order to ensure happy hour prices are given. Happy hour drink prices seemed a bit high to me. For starters we all shared Cajun Tots for $2.60 (hh). Crispy tots seasoned in a tasty Cajun spice. Served with peppercorn ranch sauce. Delish. My wife and I shared the small Pop Keeney pizza for $13.50: salami, Canadian bacon, sausage, red onion & black olives. The pizza was okay. Our server was friendly but a bit on the slow side. I'm sure it was because this place was busy. Overall, I'm happy that we experienced this location, but we will be sticking to the Mill Creek location in the future. We have been wanting to check McMenemins out since it opened, but didn't want to fight the crowds. We figured we would wait it out, and check it out once the hype had died down. We decided to go on a Saturday to celebrate close to home for my husbands birthday. The newness has definitely not worn off. This place was packed! We got there at 7pm, and it was poppin'! This place is crazy. Upon first walking in, we had no idea where to go, where anything was and couldn't help but wonder how we would explain to our friends where to meet us. We walked around the entire compound, to TRY to familiarize ourselves with the place. In our first go around, we came upon the Woodshop. We went inside, to only find out there was an hour and a half wait. At this point, I just wanted a beer. They had a table set up outside the Woodshop where they were serving a few beers out of a jockey box. I got the IPA. Not crazy about it. And the beers were $6 each. Pricey if you ask me. Especially when drinking out of a plastic cup, outside. Kept walking.... Saw the theater, hotel, the Shed (tiny little bar with a few beers, and lots of cocktails and whiskey.) We landed under a pergola with a fire pit. They actually have several of them throughout the property. Cool, especially to warm up on a winter evening! They also have patio heaters around the perimeter as well. Very good set up! I was telling my husband this will be a fun place to come in the summertime! Our friends all showed up at this point, and we just hung out outside huddled under the patio heaters. My cousin went over to the Lagoon to get a table. Apparently 1-1/2 hour wait is the standard at this place. But the good thing about it; they text you when your table is ready so that you can continue hanging out and touring the grounds.... And drinking more beer. We played Shuffleboard inside the Woodshed. Pretty sure you pay for it, or give them your ID for the table. Not totally sure since I didn't get the table. So wrap up; this place is a maze. Familiarize yourself with the grounds. Get a map from the hotel! It's so funny to watch people navigate through this place. It's a little overwhelming. But it's fun once you get use to how it works. Next time I go I have to make it a point to go to the Principals Office. I hear it is small but the easiest place to get a drink; perhaps not many know about it yet. That won't last long!! read more

This is the epitome of 3 stars. The drinks are pretty good, and there's an OK selection of food items on the happy hour menu. However, it's still all a bit overpriced and the service definitely reflects that of an average hotel ... staff that's not quite mainline restaurant ready, meals served with the plate cover thing like in hotels. My coworkers decided to do a post Christmas party here and it was great! We had a group of 17+ people and service was excellent! I'm really impressed with how they we're able to manage such a large group! Food wise, I got some Cajun tots because that was the popular item off of the happy hour menu, and for around $3, you get some pretty generous amount and delicious tots. They were crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside and had a small kick from the Cajun seasoning. A lot of the people ordered the sandwiches and burgers and although I didn't try them, they all said it was good. The portion of those meals were humongous though, like it can probably feed 2-3 people! The hummus plate wasn't a big hit as we ad plenty of leftovers. Overall, I think it's a good place for hangout as there are pool tables, darts, and pinball machine as well. And it's kid friendly even of it's a bar. Fit tip: Get your protein on and go for the Aztec salad with chicken and the dressing on the side. Ask for half the tortilla strips as well cause they definitely pile them on. What to avoid: The Neutron Dance had way too much going on. It looks like a delicious cheat meal, but tastes like a Chef Boyardee version of pulled pork and beef stroganoff. But with tomato sauce? Way too much going on here. Dang: The Cajun Tots... Addicting. Be careful cause you will finish a full order if they're in front of you. -- McMenamins seems like a pretty neat place to spend the day whether you're with friends, a significant other, or family. However, the food at Wood Shop won't blow you away. Pizza and burgers seemed like a hit with the group, but order other things at your own risk. We had dinner here on a Sunday evening and tbought it was good. Our party had fish and chips, burger, and an entree salad. Everyone was pleased with their food. Service was acceptable, and the setting is lovely. We were sitting outside and the smoke from the nearby fire got to be a bit much, but it was also charming. Where do I start? Service was not good. I didn't appreciate being called "buddy" and "man" by the waiter. Brought me a glass half empty water. Ordered the grinder. If I knew the "chips" we're actual "chips" I wouldn't have ordered them. But a few lines above "chips" are described as "freshly cut fries". Waiter said he'd talk to somebody about it. Apparently he was told he'd have to charge me another $6 for the fries. Pretty unreasonable. Waited for another 10 minutes. Received my "hot" sandwich. It was cold! They took it back. Hello, to all the families who bring children here be warned. As you can see when you enter the bar the first thing to come to your eye or second after the bar selection a pool table. When paying 5 bucks for 30 minutes to play pool they do not warn you that you must be over 18. However I have played here before with the pool tables, and I'm 14, and got no warning about the age requirement. HOWEVER today was different, my dad bought a pool game for a fun Father's Day game until the bartender comes up midway through the game and states "you have to be 18 and over" my mom replied stating that we payed to play so she let us play finish are game in a hurry. This age ratting also applies to the shuffle board and in the moment while playing we noticed that she didn't bother to tell the kid playing shuffle board! PLEASE I force your rules about age because you called me and my dad out but not the child. Make the sign only say 18+ for pool table and not shuffle board. read more

05.28.22 - Visited Woodshop for lunch on a Saturday. Arrived at 1230p, was greeted and seated inside, as requested. However we could have been seated in the outdoor seating as there were ample tables open with heat lamps and woodburning firepits everywhere creating the ambience of campfires. The bartender came over promptly to take our order and gave both in our party several beer samples before we decided on a pint. She also answered our questions about how to get cash for the pinball machines, about the beer flavors and about the food selections. All the beers on tap were made by Mcmenimans brewing co.. I ordered the cod fish and chips. The fish was thoroughly cooked, well seasoned and batter was crispy. The tator tots that came with it were supposed to have cajun seasoning but it must have been very light bc I couldnt really taste it. My dining partner ordered the Aztec salad. She said it was flavorful but filling. The portion size was not the reason she had to take about half of it home in a box. The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was casual and comfortable. McMenamins Anderson School is such a cool place. We love the main restaurant and like the lagoon. I was surprised that this place got such a low rating. After eating here for the first time tonight, I understand why. The food is average, nothing special like the main restaurant. But the service in the courtyard was really really bad. Our waitress Allie, disappeared on us for 25 mins after we told her we just needed a couple minutes to decide on our dinner. When she finally came back, she had the nerve to tell us that she just came back from her dinner break and what do we need? ......eh....how about our dinner??? You starved us for 25 mins so we can hear about Your dinner break. Rest of the dinner was slow too, slow to bring out drinks. And we were ignored again for 20 mins before we had to flag her down to get the bill. My advise to management is, hire better servers. It will help your business! read more

It's interesting, lots of games for the family, ranging from pool and table shuffleboard to pinball. Seems to be a family-friendly atmosphere. However, the overall look of the restaurant was dark and somewhat muted. There is also outside seating with overhead heaters if you want to brave a nippy visit outdoors. I ordered the Zeppelin turkey sandwich and corn chowder. It was good, but nothing to rave about. The service was a little less attentive than I would have liked, had to really search for my server when I was done with my lunch. We had a great time here on a Friday night on our way out of town for a hike. We'd never been to this (very large) complex and it was certainly interesting to explore. The place was packed but quite large with both inside seating and a large bar and tables outside that are heated and even have a fireplace to enjoy. Somewhat noisy but full of energy. Staff was friendly and efficient. We ordered the TNT chicken basket and a burger and were both happy with our picks. Great and plentiful side salad and their tots are so delicious. Get the cajun seasoning for $0.50 more for sure. Great house brand beers to choose from and always seasonal specials. A friend and I came to the wood shop just before midnight to get quiet 21st birthday drinks. Unfortunately, the night didn't turn out as intended. We walked inside and sat on what we perceived to be the correct side of a half-wall in the restaurant, trying to be respectful of the fact that I was 15 minutes from legal for the bar. We wanted to get an appetizer while we waited, and I would love to be able to review that but the waitress demanded to see IDs, and told us we had to wait outside until midnight. We cheerfully complied, though it would have been nice if we could have still been served an appetizer in the outdoor seating - but that wasn't the case. The same waitress walked by and glares at us a few times, and loudly told one of the other wait staff not to let us in until midnight, and to make sure he checked our IDs. We waited a few minutes until after midnight to be polite, and then headed to the bar where we were informed by the bartender that my ID was not valid. In Washington, licenses usually expire on your birthday, but my renewed card hasn't come yet. I'd checked with the DMV, who told me that my license was valid for the entire date of expiration, 24 hours later than when I was refused service. Unfortunately, the bar tender disagreed and told me that I had to get out without a valid license, much more angrily than seemed necessary for the circumstances. My friend asked in disbelief if he was serious, and he threatened to call his manager. So we left, which is how completely sober I was kicked out of the same bar twice on my birthday, and both times quite rudely. I would love to have been able to leave a review of the food, the atmosphere, and the drinks- but unfortunately I don't think I'll ever return. It looked like a great bar, but the service was memorable for all the wrong reasons. It's a shame. My family and I used to love Mcnemians. read more

I love the Woodshed! You can sit around a warm and comforting fire while enjoying a family meal. It's pet friendly and we always bring our two dogs. The food is always delicious, and we love the beer and cocktails. This is a fun place to hang out with a couple people or larger group. The McMenamins Passport adds a fun experience to the visit! It took about 10 minutes for our waiter to come over, which isn't too bad in my opinion as my friends and I took the time to settle in. We ordered 2 pitchers of beer, the Woodshop burger, the voodoo wings, brisket sandwich, veggie burger, and cajun tots. Would have preferred our food to be warmer. The tots took a while to come out, but the rest of the food came out very timely. Bread on the burgers were so-so. The side salad was wilted, although dressing was good. Cajun tots were really good! 10/10 would recommend. Our waiter was actually pretty attentive, compared to others' reviews. Nice to have pool tables & shuffle board while dining. Can accommodate a big group easily - we had 7 in ours. Prices were a bit high in my opinion. Almost $13 for an okay burger. The food is adequate, the service wasn't ideal, and overall the space isn't as cool as the overall location of this McMenamins. I had the French dip and it was pretty bland, I needed lots of au jus sauce to give it flavor, but they bring you such a small bowl of it that I didn't have enough for my whole sandwich. What I was left with was a cardboard dry third of a sandwich to choke down. The tots, cajun or regular, are pretty good here, nice and crispy. The bigger issue was with the burger we ordered. We wanted it with cheese and an egg, but no bacon, with fries not tots. So it comes out with tots. We say we wanted fries. Instead of going and getting a plate of fries the whole thing goes back to a kitchen that isn't in the same building. We have to wait 10 minutes for the fries, so now the burger is cold. It comes back with bacon and the egg is cooked over-hard. We've got to send it back. At this point we've waited a solid 30 minutes and decide we need to leave and the burger never comes. The wait staff was apologetic and took it off the bill, but it was a major disappointment. The location is pretty cool with several restaurants and bars on the campus and there was live music in the outdoor seating area, but I have never thought the food at McMenamins was all that good and they did absolutely nothing to change my mind with the Woodshop. Great place to grab a beer, but I wouldn't recommend eating here. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. I'm writing this review from a nearby restaurant, while waiting for a table. It's a busy Saturday night. We just went to the Woodshop. The wait for 2 would have been 40 minutes, so we sat at at the bar, ordered a round of drinks, an app, and 2 entrees. Just placing an order for food took 20 minutes. Then another 20 to get the appetizer. Then we noticed someone had propped the door open. It's November in Bothell and it's currently 45 degrees outside. 45! Everyone at the bar was complaining about the temperature. It was ridiculously cold! The guy next to us ran out to grab a coat from his truck. Also, one of the bartenders put on a wool peacoat. I'm not making this sh*t up. It was too cold to sit and enjoy a beverage with the door open. Anyhow, we thought propping the door was an accident, so we closed it ourselves. But 3 minutes later, it was propped open again. This time, I went to the host station to ask if we could close it. Another guest was there asking the same thing. The hostess, said, "people get locked out if it's closed. It has to stay open." I'm sorry, but WHAT???? ON WHAT PLANET does a restaurant lock its front doors on a busy night, so that neither servers nor customers can enter? (This was 8 p.m., by the way.) That is an utter, obvious, inexcusable, rude bullsh*t lie. I went back to the bar and waited another 10 minutes to get the attention of the bar staff. By now, 40 minutes had passed and our dinner order had not arrived. Also, we were freezing. Unable to get anyone's attention, we stood up and put on our coats and scarves and waited some more. Maybe 10 minutes later, a bartender asked if we needed something. We told him we were ready to go and we wanted to cancel our remaining food order. He said that when it's busy, it can take a while to get food. The boyfriend explained that we would have been happy to wait, but it was too cold and the hostess wouldn't close the door. The bartender shrugged & said nothing. Shrugged! As in, "like our useless, empathy-lacking hostess, I also do not give a F that you're freezing." As in, "F U, we don't need your business." As in, "we don't care if you come back." As in, "the fact you already been here an hour and have not eaten dinner is irrelevant." Screw the whole McMenamins chain. We've been so eager to experience this brand for so long, and we finally came. But we've been on the property 4 hours and I don't want to come back. We're staying in the hotel tonight and I will be eager to leave in the morning. What a disappointment. Here's the thing: a long wait is fine as long as your employees are courteous and empathetic. But a long wait + dismissive, apathetic, rude staff is inexcusable. Get your act together, Anderson School. That was garbage. read more
