Although it took a bit to order drinks after settling in once that happened drinks, dinner orders and food arrived quite quickly. The Chardonnay was acceptable and the Hazy IPA was actually quite good. My wife had the Spicy Tortilla Soup and Garlic Bread. Soup was very tasty ... the bread not so much. I had Fish and Chips altho subbed Tots. The battered cod was fine altho a tad overcooked but it was hot and flavorful. The tots were pretty great. There's a small gem of a restaurant in Happy Valley, run by a passionate team that truly loves what they do. I've been here twice now and both times had the burgers, they're excellent. The beer selection is also impressive, with a rotating list of craft brews on tap. What really stands out, though, is the happy hour. In my opinion, it's one of the best values you'll find in Happy Valley. If you're into burgers, fries, and good beer, this place delivers every time. I usually come with my wife and daughter, and they love the food just as much as I do. I've also tried a few of the Greek dishes, they're fantastic too, although not part of the happy hour menu. read more

I've been to quite a few of McMenamins restaurants over the years, and though I was hesitant about this outpost being in a suburban strip mall, it actually has a lot of the charm of their other spots. I'm surprised by the other low-ish reviews here. The food and service has always been pretty solid each of the times I've been. The only disappointment is that their menu is a bit more limited than their other establishments, likely due to the smaller kitchen. The sandwiches and burgers are better than average, and the salads pretty fresh. You can never go wrong with McM Cajun tots anywhere. And I really think their beers have gotten much better in the last 10 yrs or so. Prices can be a little high, so it's not a weekly lunch spot for me, but happy to hit this place up for the PNW coziness of McM's for dinner once in awhile. Being where it is, sadly they don't have any outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. read more

The food is similar to many other McMenamins locations. If it weren't for the stamp in our McMenamins' passports, I think we would have skipped this one. It isnt in a historic building. It doesn't have some amazing ghost tales or hidden rooms. There isn't any place to shoot pool or play tabletop shuffleboard. This one is very much like the one in East Vancouver, as it is in a strip mall. The worst part of this, for us--anyway, is that we entered the business with a strong desire to have the beer cheese soup. It was the one we had last year during our PDX LAX road trip, and fell in love with. No such luck here. (NOTE: this year's road trip had us experience 13 different McMenamins' kitchens and two hotels and, sadly, none of them had it on the day(s) we were there. So, if you don't find it, just know you weren't alone). End game: We got stamped, bought a shirt and we headed to the Ram's Head for appetizers and a shirt and entrees at Edgefield. The food was good, we got Cajun tater tots and Scooby snacks along with a couple of drinks. I haven't been to a McMenamin's in a few years and I was absolutely flabbergasted when I seen the prices. We came during happy hour and all of the prices were jacked up as if it was a regular evening at another normal restaurant. Expect to pay $15 for a burger at happy hour and $19 on a regular night. Food, drink and service were good; until time to pay. I had a 9 oz glass of one of my favorite wines; Black Rabbit Red. It was listed as $14.75 on their menu. I was charged $18 for this glass of wine. When I pointed it out to my server, she argued with me. She said because I ordered the 9 oz, the price was right. When I showed her the menu, she said I was receiving $1.50 off for HH. This is not okay! There were two employees during HH so decided to not continue pressing the issue. I told her I was leaving less of tip due to overpaying for the wine. Not okay! I love McMenamins, but their prices are outrageous and the service today was unacceptable. read more

Visited on a Sunday around 1:30 and found a table right away. Our server was very friendly and attentive! I had the triple play, which includes the daily soup (this was a potato chowder), a green salad and 2 pieces of garlic bread (I had eaten 1 of them prior to taking the picture) my daughter had the chicken strips & tots. Everything was delicious! We also got their seasonal dessert of pumpkin spice churros. Had lunch here with a girlfriend we both enjoyed our meal immensely. She had a cheeseburger with fries. Did ask for the sauce on the side and ended up liking the sauce so went ahead and put it on her burger. I had the turkey melt with pepper jack cheese and a gluten-free bun and fries. Had a late lunch here 3/31 (yesterday), right at the beginning of Happy Hour at 3PM. Not crowded, but I had the 3 cheeseburger sliders, and my sweetheart had the fish & chips. Both were served piping hot, service was great. Most enjoyable overall. The coleslaw with her fish & chips was pretty bland, but in what we took home, I added just a light sprinkle of Beau Monde seasoning and VOILA. I (Chef) recommend this to the McMenamins restaurants (try it). read more

I hope the manager of this Pub actually reads these reviews. I ordered a burger with Swiss cheese and mushrooms for lunch the other day. It may have been the very worst hamburger I have ever had! It was dry and the edges so burnt that it was black and tasted like charcoal - the cheese was at the edges also black - I thought that maybe these were cooked over and open flame but no the griddle was plainly visible. I walked around the pub trying to get a manager or someone to see this mess but waitresses just skirted around me. I did not want to ruin the others lunch so I did not make a fuss - I did however see the issue -the griddle is behind the bar and 2women very busy with other chores left it entirely unmanned... so someone need to step up - could have gone to a fast food place and had a better burger!!! I opted for a salad to go with -really disappointing - literally the "stumps " to the head of lettuce was in my serving -everything pale and edged brown -tomatoes so pale and uninviting - wow just awful!!!! McMenamins is known for their incredible locations that add a lot of charm. I forget it is a chain. There isn't a nearby "cool location" version from Happy Valley, so decided to try their strip mall version. And it is probably the last time that I will. The salty/season dusted Cajun tots were great. But that's about all the positive thoughts I had. For a pretty empty restaurant, I was surprised how long it took to make a bunch of burgers, fried food, and a sandwich. The burger prices were all Around $17-19... but man, they kind of stunk. Very fat patty made a tall burger. Overcooked (not badly, but beyond medium by a bit meant it was dry. 5 Guys and Killer burger win by a mile. Kids menu also leans greasy/fried, but was largely successful. Dessert also disappointing and the brownie texture was just wrong and the ice cream was more cheap-gallon-tub vanilla than Ben and Jerry's or better. I try to rate places based on what they are trying to do. McMenamins is a local chain with some greasy fried food and beer. The beer is solid. The food was lame and overpriced compared to similar restaurants. So they achieve what they are doing, but there are a lot of places I'd rather go instead for a burger and beer. read more

Always excellent quality food & service. However, hope they will pay more attention to keeping the area around the dining booths cleaner. The large picture to the right as you enter & sits above several booths has food particles smeared at various places plus is full of fingerprints. When the light shines just right one can see the food smears & prints. The entry door is also full of prints & probably because they have a high volume of diners with kids, but more attention to detail would be surely appreciated. Really like the beer, good service, but once when I was sitting at the bar, there was a "new" cook (the normal guy wasn't there, was a larger guy working the kitchen). I saw him pull his apron over his nose and blew what sounded like the largest snot filled cannon I have ever heard, the type of you heard in a movie, people would roll their eyes with how fake it is. He then proceeded to make peoples sandwich's and food. He never changed his gloves, never washed his hands, he didn't even wipe them off. Ever since, I don't think I can order food there, or at least when he is cooking. Please beware of who is making your food and their hygiene. I am only giving it a two and not a one star because I haven't seen him there before and haven't been back since. So I have no idea if he's permanently there, just a loan to help out, or what. read more

We had a group of 10 'descend' upon this McMenamims a few nights ago. This is a fairly small restaurant to handle a large group and I have to say they did reasonably well. Eileen was our server and very attentive, even though she had several other tables to wait on. We ordered a smattering of drinks including beers, ciders, and cocktails. Everyone liked their drinks. The appetizer menu is mainly fried food. So it was a guilty pleasure to eat bite size corn dogs (called Scoobie Snacks) and Cajun seasoned tater tots. For my entree I had the bacon cheeseburger. It was just okay. The rest of our party thought the food was just okay also. The check came and I was pleasantly surprised with the good value of this restaurant. If I were to come back, I would order any drink on their menu to chase down a basket of Scoobie Snacks! read more

After a brief hiatus, my wife and I have decided to resume our McMenamins Passport quest, and having worn ourselves out shopping at Clackamas Town Center, we drove over to the Sunnyside location for a quick snack and a drink. We were seated immediately, and our host/server, Mike, took care of us from start to finish. Mike was pleasant, friendly, professional; everything you could ask for in a server. Our order was modest: a glass of apple cider, heated (it's normally chilled, but Mike accommodated us), a "Call Me Old Fashioned" for myself, and an order of the beer-battered cheese curds to split between us. This location upholds McMenamins standards of excellence when it comes to décor. It's very reminiscent of the Mall 205 or East Vancouver locations in terms of layout and ambiance; I'd say this is what you might call the "default layout" for their smaller, chain-like pubs, but it's still a cozy, comforting atmosphere to hang out and have a drink or two. We didn't stay long, as we had other errands to run, but this location will likely be out go-to McMenamins location when we need a break from the hustle and bustle, while in the Clackamas/Happy Valley area. read more

Mom and I have come here a few times as it is close to her apartment and each time we have had mediocre food. This last time Mom had some sort of turkey french dip sandwich (Portland Dip), which had zero flavor and if it wasn't for the so-so a jus, it would have tasted like nothing. I ate half and it was really disappointing. I had a cheeseburger that seemed like a sad, dried out, frozen, college cafeteria beef patty. While nothing was actually terrible, the quality of the food is not there, especially for the prices. The beer is fine. The tots are fine, but anyone can dump cajun seasoning on some tots and overcharge for them. This time, the service was okay, they were training a new server. Previous times the servers/bar guys have messed up our orders, which caused some of the food to come out late. So one person is watching the other eat their meal while they wait. The ambiance here is nothing remarkable. The back tables near the bathroom are dark and the area at the end of the bar and through the doors looks dirty. read more

It's a small space so it gets crowded quickly here. Lots of good beer on tap with the usual food fare. One thing I haven't seen or had were the mini corn dogs. Once you've been to enough McMenamins locations you start picking up on the themes. Often times the menu isn't all that different from another pub owned by the company but sometimes there are differences. The Sunnyside Pub menu at least when we were both there had the standard pub menu. I was however craving one of their cheeseburgers and that definitely did hit the spot. Steve got a bowl of soup that he really enjoyed . One good thing with going to more than one pub in a day(reason being to get stamps for your McMenamins passport of course) is that the soup of the day is almost always different at each location on a given day. One thing we noticed with the Sunnyside Pub was that it wasn't as "out there" with it's decor like with paintings or with a whole bunch of odd and cool ceiling lights but some locations are more subdued. read more

Beware: Kids salad is just lettuce. My husband and I split and order of the fish and chips which were yummy. We ordered our kids two Wee Rabbit Salads and my daughters were super disappointed. We ended up basically switching meals with them. The salad was just some lettuce with two cucumber slices. They were missing the cheese, croutons, tomatoes, all the things that make a salad more than just lettuce. We are in the midst of a kitchen remodel and I had nothing to add to their salads to spruce them up. I contacted Amanda who I placed to Togo order from regarding the kids salads and she said sorry we didn't get the salad toppings and she would talk to the kitchen. I like to give a review for McMenamins on Sunnyside as it seemed some of the last were not so good about the service. We had great service so worth a mention. We were greeted immediately as we entered and seated. Our server took our drink orders while waiting for a friend. She was very knowledgeable about the beers and alcohol. As the meal progressed, a team of servers brought out our food and made sure we were comfortable. The food was normal McMenamins offerings. We ordered the tuna salad sandwich, burger, fries, tater tots, and Scooby snacks. The Scooby snacks was a treat as not a normal part of my diet. At the end of the day, if you go in with the normal expectations of food from McMenamins you will be fine. The food did not disappoint. read more

One thing I love about McMenamins is the consistency of their food. Every time I come here the food tastes the exact same. Don't get me wrong, it's still pub food, but when it comes to pub food, McMenamins does it right. My favorite thing about McMenamins is their cider, hands down. Their seasonal crangerine is to die for (seriously, get it before it goes!). The seasonal cherry and pomegranate are also up there. And you can't go wrong with the standard blackberry cider they offer year round. The service here is pretty good compared to other locations I've been to. This is a very small location, so it tends to be either jam packed or completely empty. The servers always do their best, no matter how busy or dead it can be. McMenamins is a family favorite and I always love coming here! read more

The food was good, however the waitress who served my mother and I could not or would not smile or even appear happy to serve us. Other staff were smiling and friendly but every ask from our server felt like a huge inconvenience to her. It's unfortunate because I tip well for even normal service but I had a hard time wanting to tip at all being repeatedly greeted with a sour face. I went here with friends on June 25, 2023 for lunch and to catch up with them, since it was more than a year since our last visit with them. There were only 2 other tables with customers. Frankly, we all used to love McMenamin's Sunnyside and also frequent their many different locations. The service from our server Emily was very poor, the food was just okay, the staff attitude overall was not very good, their background music was very loud - I asked them 3 times to turn it down so we could carry on a conversation at our table, that never happened. We should have known better. We walked in saying, "McMenamins so the service is gonna be bad." But it was about 3:45 and we wanted some afternoons beers. We left at about 5:15 after never receiving our food. People had come in after us, ordered, got their food, and left. Someone came in and said, "can we do to go?" Sat down, got their food, and left. Then the table behind us too. All we ordered was a sandwich and a burger, nothing crazy. But the wait? That was crazy. We even had to bug the waiter multiple times to get a drink. Menu items are horribly priced, portions are even worse and flavors were not good. Service, well she couldn't get 2 orders correct and didn't even apologize.
