It is the lowest level of building. It is very small place. But the lady who assisted me was very sweet. I came here to have my pearl necklace to be tighten. I needed to get screws for earning. They did not have 18 carets and they didn't have them. They ordered them for me. Everything got them done with a week. I am very pleased with their customer service. read more

I went here to get my engagement ring appraised, and had a wonderful experience. After calling 2 other local jewelers appraisal businesses who were going to charge me at least $500 for their service, I found McLean Jewelers who gave me a much more reasonable price. McLean Jewelers was professional and had my ring appraised within 48 hours of me dropping it off, compared to the 2 weeks that other businesses would have taken. read more

McLean Jewelers for watch repair I just needed watch band to be switched from old watch to newer watch. After trying another watch repair shop that did it incorrectly, I went to McLean Jewelers that did it right, while I waited and at very fair price. I would definitely recommend them. Note: they are located in lower level of building behind McLean Total Wine. read more

Great experience! i only needed a couple of batteries changed, but Mr and Mrs Mangan were friendly, attentive, efficient, and fairly priced. i havent bought a lot of jewelry since courtship days, but their display cases were enticing. I'll be back! read more

Hidden gem on ground level of a building behind total wine in mclean. Very knowledgeable and the owner is hands on. I got the impression it's either a family business or the small team has worked together for many years. Fairly priced and very attentive. Highly recommended. Apt only and must ring the buzzer to be let in. Old school place- still writes things up by hand. Really charming. read more

Growing up in a family of jewelers I learned to appreciate the meticulous nature and fine craft that comes with the business. When I moved across the country it was hard initially to find a business that I felt I could trust with everything from purchases to repairs and appraisals. Having gone to Mangan Jewelers now for over 10 years, I can confirm that this is hands down the place to go in not only McLean, but the entire Northern Virginia area. You won't find a kinder staff or more trustworthy team that stands by what they sell you. So often I have brought something back for repairs for something I purchased and Tom Mangan has fixed it without question. Their estate jewelry cases are phenomenal - I mean ... it's McLean, you should expect that. Think you can't afford to get someone jewelry as a gift for their birthday or the holidays? Think Mangan. The big difference between here and other stores is that you get personalized service - someone hears what you're looking for and helps you. It might be Tom or his wife Lin, it might be Sharon who has been there for as long as I can remember. No matter, you're in good hands. And as of January 2019, it will be by appointment so it's really going to be personalized. read more

They are a local jeweler that takes a lot of pride in their work. They're also wonderful people!

For 20 years, I'd been holding onto a bag of loose gemstones from a late relative in the gemology field. It was time to declutter. Since they were a childhood gift, I suspected the stones wouldn't have much value, but wanted to get a professional opinion. After searching for gem appraisal services in the area, we set up a consultation with Mangan Jewelers in September 2019. During our session, Tom gave us his undivided attention and identified each individual stone with meticulous attention to detail. Tom provided the utmost in friendly, honest, and quality service. We would highly recommend him for your jewelry, gemology, and appraisal needs. read more

I took an engagement ring and a pearl necklace to Mangan Jewelers to be appraised for insurance purposes. I arrived a few minutes later than my appointment due to traffic, and they were perfectly understanding. I was very impressed with Tom Mangan's expertise during the appraisal. He was very focused on his work, but did take the time to thoroughly answer any questions I had. He was perfectly friendly as well, asking if I had popped the question yet and complimented the sentiment behind my engraving on the ring. I was thrilled with his appraisal of both my pieces, each of them coming in well over what I paid for them. It was also nice that he complimented my choices in jewelry, particularly considering my knowledge of jewelry is next to nothing. Tom also submitted his appraisal to Jeweler's Mutual so that I didn't have to deal with it. Not only that, he still had some work to do on my appraisal when I had to leave, but still only charged me for the time I was there. All in all, the experience exceeded my expectations and I would recommend him to anyone looking for an appraisal (I have no experience purchasing jewelry from this shop, so I can't comment on that). Regarding a review on yelp that gave only 3 stars because Tom didn't take into account a famous designer for an appraisal; to me that shows integrity. He looks at the pieces for what they are. Adding value to an item based on the designer is subjective, while jewelry appraisal should be completely objective. I believe that Tom Mangan looks at his appraisals objectively, and I appreciated that. read more

We were looking for an appraiser and found Tom Mangan on one of the gemological society websites. We were looking for someone within the NoVA area and could do the appraisal in front of us within a reasonable time. Arriving at 6801 Whittier Ave, take the elevator to the ground floor. The first floor start with 200+. You'll have to ring the doorbell and someone will let you into the small showroom of Mangan Jewelers. Like us, Tom is very soft spoken but he knows what he's talking about when you ask him questions! He'll let you know what he's doing as he's doing it and will ask permission before he does something to your jewelry (e.g. Clean it in the machine for a better look under the magnifying device that he has next to his desk). So polite! I would definitely use him again in the future. read more

Great service, selection, fair prices, exceptional skill and professionalism. Worked with the Mangans for a few decades. Purchased many beautiful and high quality pieces of jewelery, watch repair and battery replacement, jewelry repair, appraisal services, sizing... whatever we've needed they've been there and we had a great experience. Also, great integrity and they can be trusted to stand behind their products and craftsmanship. read more

I have a ring that was left to me and I was hoping to see what I could reasonably sell it for. The jewelers who did my appraisal for insurance purposes referred me to Tom Mangan. Mangan Jewelers is a hidden gem (literally, it's hard to find) with lovely, well curated pieces for sale. I showed my my insurance appraisal and Mr Mangan did one of his own as well. In the end, my brother decided to pay me what Mr Mangan thought I would net in a sale after their commission. I offered to pay him for his time, but he said he'd been happy to help. It was a pleasant experience all around. read more

When we started seriously shopping for my engagement ring, we went to several places in DC, MD and VA. I relied heavily on Yelp reviews as well as a Washingtonian Article from a couple years ago. The Washingtonian had interesting insights about Mangan Jewelers, noting that their diamonds are on par with Tiffany's but the Yelp reviews were mixed. We decided to give them a try. Initially we were looking for a loose diamond and then would figure out the setting after finding the diamond. We worked with Sharyn who was incredibly patient with us as we requested more and more options to review. We were probably in the store every weekend for several weeks in a row. Turns out "the one" was sitting in the estate jewelry case! When I initially spotted it, I inquired of the cost. It was outside of our budget range. The store owner called the ring owner and worked out one heck of a great deal on the ring. It was meant to be and we are so appreciative of the time they spent with us and the value we got with my ring. We also purchased our wedding bands from Mangan. Once again, Sharyn was patient as we decided on styles. My husbands ring didn't fit so after the wedding they exchanged it for another size at no cost. I also had my grandmothers diamond watch cleaned and refurbished through Mangan, which turned out beautifully. read more

A terrific experience! Tom Mangan did updated appraisals on 4 pieces of jewelry for me and the documentation was clear and well supported. My insurance company had no questions (a first!). Would highly recommend Mangan Jewelers. read more

Tom Mangan came highly recommended by a friend of mine who knows and owns very valuable antiques. By contrast, I am clueless. While my few precious family jewelry pieces were probably far from the most tantalizing items Tom has ever seen, he was completely patient and thorough in his evaluation -- and offered an education about how he was assessing my heirlooms, as well. I left with a check and fewer heirlooms, which was the general idea. Tom had explained on the phone in advance that he wears different hats -- appraiser is different from buyer -- and my goal had been to liquidate what I could. Observing how Tom evaluated the content of my trinkets was fascinating. I gather that Mangan Jewelers is a DC-area institution, serving senators, Congressmen, and justices of the Supreme Court. While my humble family jewels were probably not in a class with those of many of Mangan's clientele, he never let on. Clearly, he is a dedicated gemologist who lives and breathes his craft, and I appreciate having benefited from his expertise. read more

I had high hopes for this place after reading all the positive reviews. I went there for a simple watch battery replacement. They scratched the back of my watch! They also damaged the screws. I've had my watch batteries replaced at the kiosk at the mall and they never scratched any of my watches. I would not recommend this place. read more

I had my engagement ring appraised at Mangan Jewelers this past weekend and would highly recommend it! I've never had jewelry appraised before, but after my fiance researched area jewelers / qualifications / certifications / etc he landed on Mangan as the place to go. The owner of the shop actually appraised my ring for us. He's super nice, professional, and thorough. We arrived on time and he saw us right away with no wait. During the appraisal he was great about talking me through what each measurement meant and why it was important so that I could understand how it worked. He really takes the time to do a quality job. Afterwards he printed a copy of the appraisal for us and one to send to an insurance company - and even offered to email it directly to our insurance company for us. All in all - great customer service and quality work. I would definitely recommend! read more

I went to Mangan because he is an a accredited appraiser. He was a bit pricey for the service, but he was knowledgeable and provided good insurance documentation for my engagement ring (although he did give it to me with a typo which I had to point out). He also fixes jewelry and was able to repair a sapphire ring for me. I haven't seen it yet so I can't comment on the quality of his work on that. The employees are all very friendly and helped my fiancé and I choose our wedding bands. I was satisfied with their one stop shop until my mother went to pick up our bands. My fiancé's ring needed to be sized, and we were led to believe that was included in the cost of the ring. Unfortunately, my mother ended up calling me from the jeweler stating they were demanding $70 for the sizing, which neither my fiancé, mother, nor I was told about. I am rating this a 3 because had I known about the hidden fee, I would not have purchased the ring there. I had a quote at another jeweler for the same price minus the $70 sizing Mangan charges. I'm also a bit confused as to why we were charged $70 instead of $60. I inquired as to the charge to get my platinum engagement ring resized during our visit and was told it would be $60 not $70. I'm pretty sure platinum cost more than white gold, so why does the white gold wedding band cost $70? When I told them I was going to write this review, they did nothing but say "I'm sorry." I don't think that is enough considering in one visit I purchased 2 wedding bands, got 1 ring repaired, and had my engagement ring appraisal done. You would think they could at least give us a few bucks off of the sizing, considering they didn't tell us about it. Or just automatically give us the $10 check-in deal they had on repairs. I saw it online but my mom doesn't know how to use a smart-phone to show the employees. If it weren't for the fact I felt like they weren't completely upfront with the fees, which I'm hoping was an honest mistake, I would have rated them much higher. Their issue resolution is horrible and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Had they offered to do anything at all to resolve the problem, I probably would have been satisfied. read more

Tom Mangan, owner, is a personal friend. He's also my jeweler. With access to just about any piece of jewelry, and his ability to repair/modify our existing jewelry, what more could you ask for in a jeweler? Oh yeah, he's also a Rotarian; honorable and trustworthy. In our ever-changing society, expedited and impersonalized by the internet, it's good to work with a true "mom-n-pop" shop like Mangan Jewelers. read more

The owner and staff were nice people. The owner did the appraisal right in front of me and talked me through it. The owner was meticulous (aka "nit-picky") and initially wanted to grade my engagement ring as an SI1 rather than GIA's VS2 rating. I didn't feel that he really appreciated that a custom ring by a very well known ring designer would be more expensive to replace than just the cost of the platinum. I left feeling like we overpaid for the ring and it wasn't worth as much as I thought it was. Not a great way to feel after just spending so much money on a ring. If you want a very conservative appraisal without taking into account designer or upgraded elements, then this place is fine. If you want someone who can look at the bigger picture then I'd go elsewhere. read more

I went here for a watch battery replacement. When I called to confirm their hours, I was greeted with a pleasant and friendly voice and clear directions. The owner was extremely knowledgeable and provided fast and diligent work on my watch. He even notified me of the intrusion points for potential water leaks on my "waterproof watch"... & it was only 15 bucks. The location was a bit awkward, and only maybe 30 square feet inside with limited inventory. But while in there I heard countless phone calls to people notifying them of their jewelry being complete and available for pickup etc, so they are definitely not hurting for business. I recommend them for future business. read more

I recently had a piece of jewelry appraised by Adele and I can't say enough good things about her and the service at Mangan. She was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly when I met her to drop off the piece, and she even took the extra time to call me later that week with the full appraisal and answer any additional questions as she wouldn't be there that weekend when I picked it up. The appraisal was extensive (five pages!) and easy to understand, and will make selling my piece much easier. I wish they could sell for me on consignment (they also have consignment pieces) but they won't sell anything they appraise to avoid a conflict of interest. Overall, I would go there again and recommend it without hesitation! read more

Went to see Thomas Mangan to get an idea on an old diamond ring. Thomas was patient with all our questions, thorough in his reviewing the diamond and the ring. I came in for a consultation with Mr. Mangan. I'd purchased a diamond online and was looking for someone to look at it and tell me their views. I couldn't have been happier with the consult. He took the time to go through the diamond, give a rough evaluation, and basically gave me all the information and tools I needed to determine if it was a worthwhile purchase and whether I'd keep the stone. He was professional and presented 100% unbiased view of what I brought to him. I am very impressed and would highly recommend his services. read more

I had a great experience here. I brought my watch in to have some links removed. A lovely woman greeted and helped me. She quickly realized that each link had a clasp that could easily be snapped on and off -- no need for tools or a professional. Because it was so simple, she decided that she wouldn't charge me! She showed me how to take the links off and was very helpful. It's so refreshing to see this kind of honesty and service nowadays. It's easy to be taken advantage of when you, the customer, don't know what you're talking about, and it restores my faith in humanity when someone -- be it a jeweler or a mechanic -- gives you an honest answer instead of pretending that there's a problem and charging you to "fix" it. I had a very positive experience at Mangan Jewelers and I'll be recommending it to others! (P.S. In case you were wondering, they charge $10-$15 to remove watch links.) read more

I had my fiances diamond ring appraised by Mr. Mangan himself. I've never experienced an appraisal but after conducting my own research on how to pick the right appraiser, that's where I came across Mangan Jewelers. Not only is Mr. Mangan a certified Gemologist, but also a member of the American Gem Society (AGS). Those were two of the criteria I looked for before searching for an appraiser. I was able to sit with Mr. Mangan as he walked me through the appraisal process and he explained each step he did to test both the ring and diamond. I was confident in his appraisal as he was spot on with the specs of the diamond. I left with more knowledge and confidence and would highly recommend anyone to Mr. Mangan. read more

My first experience at Mangan's totally exceeded expectations and I will never go to another jeweler. I stopped in, thinking my 20+ year old engagement and weeding rings would need to be completely reset. The bands were bent and the engagement ring - which was soldered to the wedding band - was no longer even centered. I was fully expecting to be told I was facing well over a hundred dollars (maybe a few hundred) to fix the rings. Instead, The owner (I think), was able to straighten the bands and re-center the stone. He also gave it such a thorough cleaning that the little scratches that have built up on the bands over the years are gone. AND HE REFUSED TO CHARGE ME A PENNY! What great service. This took about ten minutes while I waited. Very impressed with the professional and outstanding customer customer service, right here in McLean! read more

Mangans is an HONEST jeweler, where you will hear the truth about your purchase or appraisal. The shop is small and intimate because it relies on referrals and repeats. I love the Estate cases, where you can buy or sell on consignment. Also, Tom Mangan loves to design, if you wish a custom piece. No job is too small or large. Highly recommend. read more

I recently had to exchange a necklace purchase from Mangan jewelers. I found another necklace I preferred but it also came in a larger size. I wanted to see it although they did not have on site and despite my returning the original necklace they happily ordered the larger necklace for me to see it - and with no PRESSURE whatsoever to purchase. I did like it very much and ended up purchasing it from them...and LOVE the necklace! I also had a necklace that was custom made for me several years ago , however I was unhappy with the bezel settings. I talked at length with Tom Mangan, the owner , to see if they could remake it for me with the bezel sets I originally wanted. He worked extensively to find the best possible DESIGN option as well as what will be the most affordable But ensure I would be satisfied this time around. I picked up the necklace yesterday and could not be more THRILLED!! The work they did is superb. I cannot believe that I have lived within 10 minutes of this gem for 23 years and have not known about Mangan Jewelers. This was by far one of the best shopping experiences I can remember. I would HIGHLY recommend them and will definitely shop at Mangan Jewelers again. read more
