Wow, wow, wow ...what a rare find! Martin Fuller appraises custom jewelry same day and his staff are the best! Kendrea and Miles are extremely thorough and precise with gathering all the documents needed to get you a top tier appraisal for your jewelry. Martin is rated number one in Tysons VA from literally everyone I spoke to at NAJA (national association of jewelry appraisers) and I see why!! He is extremely admired due to his stunning value he adds to NAJA!! And be sure to meet his ambassador BOB; the beautiful mini golden doodle!! read more

This is the type of profession that you forget exists until you have need. We were so pleasantly surprised with the staff at MFA. The honesty, helpfulness, knowledge and kindness was wonderful. True customer service at a reasonable price. This level of expertise and experience is hard to find and worth every penny. MFA came highly recommended and I now see why. read more

I'm so glad we came to Martin for our appraisal. We had a diamond ring given to us by my partner's parents that we needed appraised before getting the diamond reset. We were a little worried about the appraisal process during COVID, but Martin was so careful -- he has a plexiglass panel set up between him and customers, he checked our temperatures at the door, and he wore two masks. I really appreciate the care he takes to make folks feel safe. Now to the actual appraisal: he was very straight-forward about describing the diamond's quality and even gave us a little relevant historical context to better help us understand our diamond. The whole process took about an hour and he was transparent about the cost over the phone before we drove over, which was nice. Martin is a super nice guy and we'll definitely return to him if/when we need something else appraised. Thank you! read more

We wanted to get a gold bracelet appraised and we saw the other great reviews so we decided on Martin Fuller Appraisals. Appraisals are by appointment so we called Martin and he was very accommodating to take us within our timeframe that day. We arrived and he was extremely cordial and friendly. He walked us through the entire appraisal process and is extremely knowledgeable. He even cleaned my necklace for me! The process really gives you a good idea of how jewelry is appraised and if you do plan on selling the jewelry it gives you a lot of knowledge about the jewelry's worth. This prevents low ball offers in the future. I would go here in the future to get other jewelry appraised and I highly recommend Martin. He is also extremely personable and gives the appraisal process a romantic charm. read more

Amazing experience by a personable and professional jewelry appraiser. We actually intended to go elsewhere but was told the cost of a same-day appraisal of one piece of jewelry would be $450, so we went to Martin Fuller's instead. They were extremely accommodating and squeezed us into the schedule last minute with much more reasonable pricing. Mr. Fuller does a wonderful job of walking you through the jewelry appraisal and explaining exactly what he is doing. He also as a screen hooked up to his microscope so you can see what he is seeing. We had a wonderful experience here and highly recommend him if you need any jewelry appraised! read more

Mr. Fuller and his associates are a class act. They are extremely professional and friendly, and Martin has extensive knowledge in the field. I especially recommend his shop for antique pieces where a keen eye with his historical background is much more valuable. He was able to date my piece pretty narrowly and give me background histories of how the era influenced the ring and even the stones. That said, know that the price isn't cheap. I admittedly walked in thinking I was overpaying for my appraisal, but walked out feeling like it was worth it. Like the prior reviewer, Martin noted that the ESL cert on my diamond wasn't the most accurate thing in the world and did his own inspection and appraisal. He charged me $225 for an hour of his time (after the $25 discount for referencing PriceScope.com), vs. the local jeweler who quoted me $125 and I'm sure would have just read the certificate back to me. I trust his appraisal to be accurate as he walked me through the process, not inflated like you might find coming from a jeweler ("oh we have this $25,000 diamond here for $8,000!" - please). Additionally, the jeweler where I got my piece was kind of shady to say the least. But they offered me free sizing, so I shipped it out of state to get it sized after Martin's thumbs up. His associates had no problem when I inquired if I could come back for a brief 2-minute look (paranoid about diamond swapping!). read more

I cannot speak highly enough about Martin Fuller and his services. I took a loose diamond I considered purchasing to him to verify the certificate was accurate and the price I paid was reasonable. The certificate was way off and rated the stone as far higher quality than it was. Martin was nice, professional and gave me stellar advice in locating a suitable stone for a reasonable price. Very good experience: you not only walk away with a reputable appraisal but also a solid education for future purchases and even jewelry maintenance. read more

First off, Mr. Fuller is a great guy! A friend of mine recommend Martin for appraisals and I could not been happier how Mr. Fuller walked me through every details of the appraisal on my fiancee's ring. We all know as a first timer, itching if it's a good idea to have a jewelry appraise. Mr. Fuller and his staff are wonderful people. I strongly recommend Mr. Fuller's service. As a Deaf customer walking in to his office, I felt welcome and trusted his work. Thanks Mr. Fuller and his staff Katharine! - Larry read more

Upfront: I would recommend using Martin Fuller to do your appraisal - here's why. 1. Martin is a very experienced Master Gemologist Appraiser who is well credentialed and incredibly knowledgeable. 2. He creates and explains your appraisal with you and you get your appraisal the same day you come in. 3. You dont have to live without your piece for a week waiting for someone to get around to appraising it. This was honestly my favorite thing about Martin. My fiance and I went to Martin to have my engagement ring appraised so I could insure it with USAA (note: if you're insuring with USAA Martin has worked with them numerous times and creates an appraisal that is to their standards). Martin's personality is so fun! He and his staff made us feel like friends. He appraised our ring with us right there explaining every bit about it! He was able to date the piece all together as being from the early 1900s (which we knew) but then he told us that some of the diamonds in the ring were as old as the 17 or 1800s which we had no idea about! The experience was so educational and so worth doing. When we left we called my fiance's parents to tell them everything we had learned about this family ring. They were fascinated about all the little details we recieved and we all felt like we knew a little bit more about my fiance's great grandmother, the original owner. Before we left Martin and his team we received a bound copy of our appraisal and an email with the PDF version. I also walked out with a sparkly clean ring! I highly recommend using Martin Fuller. read more

I had a fantastic experience here and highly recommend Martin Fuller for appraisal services. I am an estate executor and had a sizeable collection of family silver and some assorted jewelry of various values to appraise for equitable distribution amongst the beneficiaries. I can not say enough good about Mr. Fuller and his wife's service. Making the appointment was easy and quick, they received me courteously and got to work right away, and Mr. Fuller proved to be an extremely competent and expert appraiser. He not only got me the values I needed but also a lot of helpful and interesting background. He was so friendly and easy to work with. They were quite COVID conscious and careful, and yet still offered in-person appraisals--very appreciated in these times! I felt at ease the whole time. I don't normally gush about positive experiences, but this is a place I'd return any time, and I wish more small businesses were run like this. Prices were also reasonable for the expertise and care in appraising. Highest recommendation! read more

I am so glad that Martin Fuller was recommended to me. He made the whole experience fun. He is very thorough on his appraisals and explains everything he is doing. Plan to go back in the near future with more jewelry to be appraised. I highly recommend him! read more

Totally professional and knowledgeable. I was very pleased with their service. Also friendly and had good covid protocols. Highly recommend this business for unbiased and professional appraisals. read more

Martin is the best of the best! I was referred to him by a local jewelry store and I had an appointment with him the day after I called. He made the appraisal process easy, fun and walked me through each step of appraising my engagement ring. I left with all of the paper work for my insurance company, photos and my appraisal value the same day of my appointment. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to appraise anything from fine jewelry to estate planning. read more

I am so glad I went to Martin! I had a diamond in a necklace and a loose stone. Martin was able to remove the diamond from the necklace and appraise both stones. Martin also cleaned the stones during the appraisal and they are so sparkly I haven't been able to stop looking at them! I initially thought I would need to have a stone recut, but after the cleaning it's perfect the way it is. Martin responded to my request for an appraisal quickly, fit me in the next day, and followed several COVID safety protocols (double masking, plexiglass, extended table length so we were far apart when seated, temperature checks, and waiting outside the office during the bulk of the appraisal) so I felt very safe. His reports are thorough and he went the extra mile to research one of the stones unique cuts. I will come back to Martin for any future appraisals! read more

I recently purchased a diamond ring for my wife for our 20th anniversary. Although an appraisal was already provided by courtesy of the seller, my wife and I wanted to get a 2nd appraisal not only to verify the real value, and also to use it for the new insurance policy (we thought the seller's appraisal might have been inflated too much). I did an extensive research looking for reputable and reliable appraisers in the DC / VA / MD area, and I quickly learned that Mr. Fuller had the highest rated reviews, and his credentials were phenomenal as well. Below are a few of the experiences my wife and I had with this establishment today. 1. Making an appointment was easy on the phone, but my initial attempt to make an appointment through their website didn't work - so I'd recommend to call them if you need a new appointment. 2. The appraisal process was very enjoyable and educational. Mr. Fuller shared his appraisal process step by step with us, and also answered all our questions in a very helpful way. 3. It was truly interesting to see with our own eyes how his assessment perfectly matches the GIA report. He explained that GIA has a laser based measurement system whereas he uses a mechanical one. But guess what. His mechanical tools showed the exact numbers that were on the GIA report to the 1/100th millimeters (Or should I say 10 micrometers) 4. The appraisal report had a lot of details, and was not even comparable in its quality to the original appraisal paper we had been given by the jeweler. Let alone the fact that it was beautifully bound and also a soft-copy was shared when requested. Overall, I'd highly recommend Martin Fuller Appraisals for any appraisal needs for your valuables. read more

Wonderful! Very personable and willing to share knowledge. Would highly recommend!

Fantastic experience!. I had a bunch of one-off questions and MFA was patient and really put in some extra time to help me. Martin in particular was outstanding. I'm looking forward to being a repeat customer. read more

Martin and his office staff are true professionals, friendly, and provide great service. His hour-long appraisal of my fiancée's engagement ring was very informative. I felt confident going to Martin based on his glowing reputation online and he did not disappoint. I'd recommend him to anyone, which I'm doing here. It was money very well spent. read more

Martin and Melanie were extremely helpful. This was my first (and likely last) time having an engagement and wedding ring appraised for liquidation and they were extremely helpful. They not only provided a very thorough, professional appraisal, but they also provided excellent consulting. Even though they are quite pricey (2 - 5 times the price of other appraisers) I must say they are worth it. The first jewelry exchange place I went to in McLean recognized Martin Fuller immediately and went on and on about how he is the master of all GGA's and how places like the Smithsonian go to Martin for help! Wow! Such a humble guy. read more

I called on very short notice and Martin invited me to swing by and was able to fit me in ASAP. He walked me through every step of the appraisal process, answered my questions, discussed the style and approximate ages of the jewelry bequeathed to me by my grandmother, and demonstrated the techniques he used in determining the values of each piece. The report that he generated was very thorough and significantly better than the last appraisal I had performed (previous appraisal was done by another company). read more

In February 2018 I had Martin Fuller appraise a ring that was of great sentimental value to my family. The detailed explanations of each part of the appraisal process and of the analysis of the stone, the metal, and the quality of the jewelry was fascinating and thorough. Martin Fuller appraisals are an educational process, but also quite fun. Martin is very professional and friendly -- answering all questions and making certain you understand everything about your jewelry. The documentation received afterward, in hard copy and electronic format, is fantastic for your records. In short - a 5-star experience! read more

If you've never had good jewelry appraised and aren't even sure what you own, it can be nerve wracking to find someone you can trust. Do you go to the jewelry store in the mall? No. Martin Fuller is your guy. Friendly, unassuming, answers dumb questions that he has probably heard a million times. Reams of experience. Works in front of you. Provides great documentation for insurance purposes. Finds other people who know the things he is not the current expert on for valuation. Will tell you something is not authentic in the kindest way. His small staff is just as helpful and experienced. Expertise is not cheap, but his service is worth the cost; knowing for sure from someone with no stake in the outcome lets you sleep better. read more

I had the pleasure of working with Martin Fuller and his team during my engagement ring appraisal. Having just gotten engaged over the New Year's holiday, I wanted to consult with only the best appraiser and Martin Fuller Appraisals came up consistently for this region. Mr. Fuller was extremely thorough and knowledgeable as he walked us (me and my mom) through the appraisal. The thing that stood out most about him was that he was so down to earth, easy to understand, and easy to talk to. He answered all of my questions and even gave me some advice on how to care for my ring. It felt so good walking away knowing that my appraisal was completed accurately and thoroughly and most importantly, with care. Mr. Fuller not only provided a hard copy of my full, detailed report (including pictures) but he also emailed a soft copy to me as well. I HIGHLY recommend this firm for jewelry/gemstone appraisal. You really get what you pay for!! I will certainly use his services again! read more

My fiance took our engagement ring to Martin for an insurance appraisal, after hearing buzz from pricescope. They had literally just moved to another suite down the hall, but were gracious enough to fit in an appointment for us. Martin has a great demeanor, very friendly and professional at the same time. He has been doing this a long time, enjoys it, and it shows. Martin walked my fiance through the entire process of the appraisal, explaining each step as he went along, showing the GIA inscription under the microscope, his measurements, flourescence, how he calculated the market value, and so on. He has consulted for the Smithsonian on the Hope diamond, as well as many other multi-million dollar gems of royal/celebrity status, and yet still had the utmost professionalism and appreciation for our diamond. Frankly, I'm a little surprised there are not more reviews on yelp here (perhaps his other work is not so consumer-based?), but at least the solid 5-star ratings from all the other reviewers on here attests to the service Martin provides. read more

Outstanding customer service - I chose to meet with Martin Fuller to have my engagement ring (which had been ordered/purchased online) appraised. My research showed that he is one of the most respected gemologists in the area, so he was my first choice. His findings assured me that the ring I bought was of good quality. He walked me through the whole appraisal process and very patiently answered any questions I had. I will definitely be returning if/when I would like to have other jewelry appraised! read more

Mr. Fuller appraised a diamond ring I purchased on-line, having selected the stone and setting from a dizzying array. He has a fixed fee which I liked, and I was most confident in going to him bec he has a goodly number of favorable reviews on-line. I did do a fair amount of research on diamond appraisers, read a number of reviews, talked to a number of firms, and got pricing quotes for the appraisal from several. I could not have been more satisfied in my experience with Mr. Fuller. He is very thorough, high tech, knowledgeable, and experienced, and was very clear in explaining the process and answering all my questions. It was extremely good value for the fee paid, and I learned a lot that will inform my jewelry shopping in the future. I look forward to consulting w/ Mr. Fuller in the future, and not worrying about where I think I should go for expert appraisal advice. read more

Mr. Fuller and his staff are consummate professionals. I purchased an item at auction which was advertised as an 1890s, gold Faberge Demantoid Garnet ring, surrounded by diamonds. To insure my $8500 purchase, I wanted a professional appraisal and I saw Mr. Fuller's glowing reviews on Yelp and other websites. Luckily, I was able to get an appointment quickly. After examining my 'gem' for one hour, taking measurements on how much light the 'garnet' reflected, not only did Mr. Fuller determine that the ring was NOT a Faberge item but it also wasn't even a Demantoid garnet, as had been advertised in the auction catalog. His examination, substantiated with multiple photos and a very thorough appraisal (using his microscope, you could tell that even the diamonds were glued into the ring!), was key to my getting a full refund from the auction house. I highly recommend Mr. Fuller and his staff to anyone needing an appraisal for insurance purposes or to determine if they've been duped, as I was. read more

My fiance and I recently visited Martin to have a ring appraised. His staff were are all very polite and made us feel welcome. We made an appointment and were seen promptly. Martin is VERY knowledgeable. He took us through every step of the appraisal process and explained each evaluation point. He not only examined the stone, but also tested the ring itself to ensure that it was platinum He treated us with respect and answered every one of our questions patiently and fully. I asked how long he has been in the business and he has been in the same space since 1987. We brought our GIA certificate and he compared his findings against the document. Everything was right on point. He showed us what the current market price of a replacement diamond would be. He also provided us with a professionally bound report with his findings and appraisal information as well as recommended some insurance companies that deal with jewelry. The entire appraisal was $250. Well worth every penny! I would highly recommend Martin to anyone needing to have a piece of jewelry appraised! read more

Very helpful and professional. I felt good about my big purchase after speaking with Martin.

So many people recommend Martin for appraisals. I've recently taken several items for Martin to appraise and he is the best. He is warm, friendly, and a great educator. The reports he prepared had more detail and info than I expected. He mentioned that he sometimes teachers classes about the items he appraises. I would sign up in a heart beat. read more
