Came in and expected to be super impressed. The menu is small but I found the turkey avocado croissant and was excited to try it. It's $8 I think and my boyfriends was about the same because our total was $16. I'm sorry but I can go get a small burger, hotdog, and a regular fry from Five Guys for the same price and actually feel full. Plus I have leftovers! I have already ate my tiny Trump hands sized sandwich and I could eat probably two more to fill me up. This should at least come with a side for this steep price. If I had to use one word to describe McLaren's, it would be: UNDERWHELMING. Two words, you ask? OVER PRICED. A patient of the office I work at brought me a gift card for this place yesterday, so of course I went to check it out. I couldn't find prices at any of the places I checked online, so I wasn't sure what to expect. (Not to worry for all of you planning a visit, I've uploaded a photo.) I pulled in to a packed parking lot which is usually a good sign. The dining area was pretty full, mostly of older ladies chatting while having lunch. There was no line, which was nice. After glancing at the menu, I knew that if I was paying with my own money, I would have turned and walked out, but since I had a gift card, I didn't. I ordered a spinach quiche, which says it comes with a side of fruit salad, and I also ordered a cup of the Wisconsin Cheddar soup. I was told to have a seat and they would call me up when it was ready and I'd pay then. I was surprised at how small the quiche was considering it was two quarters shy of $10. (That's right. $9.50 for a Banquet Pot Pie size quiche.) The soup came the size I expected to see. And it also came with a mint. Once I got to my table, I realized there was no fruit salad so I had to go ask if that was a thing or not. The girl at the front quickly realized she forgot and turned to the mini fridge behind her and handed me a tiny cup of fruit. (See photo for entire meal.) My order came out to almost $14. I kind of feel ripped off to be completely honest. The quiche was soggy. Like it was cooked over the weekend and then popped in the microwave when I ordered it. Tasted like dog breath. You could tell that if it were fresh, the crust would be crispy and flaky, but it was incredibly wet. I couldn't finish it. The soup tasted like an off brand canned soup you'd get at Walmart and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what it was. Sadly, the fruit is the only thing that tasted good and unfortunately that was the smallest portioned thing at my table. As I was dining, I was observing the workers. I noticed a lot of food touching and a lot of no hand washing. There was a lot of hands being wiped on the side of their pants, though, as to "clean" them before touching something else. So beware if you have any type of food allergy. There was a lot of cross contamination going on. One girl stuck her hand in a bucket of soapy, blue water to fish out the rag to wipe down tables, then she returned the rag and went back to making food. The sink was visible and she didn't use it. Needless to say, I have $11 left on my gift card and if I do happen to go back, I'll just be buying cookies. read more

One of OKC's best gems when it comes to "hole in the wall" bakeries. And after their move to the shopping center across the way, that hole in the wall has gotten a bit bigger with ample seating for the lunchtime set. It's delightfully old-school with its Mary Engelbreit wallpaper and its cute encouragement decals on the walls. The cookies. Oh the cookies. The chocolate chip and snickerdoodles are the bomb dot com, with just the right amount of gooey in the middle even once cooled. Sugar cookies aren't normally my "jam" but their decorated ones are as cute as they are tasty. Big highlight is Easter where they make adorable bunnies with marshmallow tails. One of my favorite places in south Edmond. I've been coming for 20 years. While the food selection is not very large, what they have is good. The cookies and dessert bars are fabulous. The sandwiches are also tasty. Portions of both are just right. The staff at McLaren's are always very nice and helpful and the 'new' location accommodates many more customers. I have lived McLarens Pantry since I first ate there in the late 80's. The business has changed location and owner, but has kept the same menu and recipes. The current owner was an employee to the original owner. I always like to get the chicken salad on croissant sandwich special, with a side of chips and a baked yummy bar, brownie or lemon square! It is my fave chicken salad, and the treats are all so very delicious. The food never fails! It is always great. This is a little hidden cafe on the corner of eastern and 33rd and I somehow in spite of living less than a block away have managed to not even see this gem until a few months ago. They are a bakery/restaurant and everything I have had here is great. They have croissant sandwiches that taste homemade. The cranberry croissant is my favorite, but the avocado one is fantastic as well. Then their cookies--I'm not normally a cookie person, but I can never resist grabbing one when I'm here. They make them daily right there in the bakery and they have so many to choose from! If you're having a party, they are a good place to get some sweets. read more

My mother in law brought me lunch from here a few times when I was on maternity leave and home with the baby. How great is that? She comes to help me, and brings me lunch! But, since I'd never been in, I didn't think I should review it. My doctor is in Edmond, so after I left a successful check up this week, I decided to find McLaren's and see for myself. I only had about 30 minutes between arriving here and needing to get on a conference call, but 30 mins was plenty of time here, though I did arrive a good 30 minutes before the lunch rush. I was thankful for other reviews that pointed me toward the Tailgate. An excellent choice indeed. I had a wonderful ham and cheese on croissant, with fruit, two cookies and tea. Yes, I happily ate both cookies - one with my meal and one hours later while driving down the road and happily remembered my snickerdoodle sitting there. Clean as a whistle, friendly staff, very quick service. Maybe a little more than your average shop, but you could tell it was also much better ingredients than your average shop. read more

I was so excited to see that they have bierocks as I've had their cookies before and they are good. My grandparents are German and my grandma loves baking, so I grew up making bierocks. The beirocks were bland and for both the quality and size they were way overpriced!! When the lady handed me the to go box, I literally thought it was just an empty box. The bierocks came with a side and I chose their pasta salad which came in a disposable little ramekin. I might as well of saved the calories bc it was tasteless as well. This place has my favorite sandwich in the world. Turkey Croissant. About twice a week I start to lose my concentration until I can put one of these down my throat. And that's about how it is -- I don't really perceive what's going on until it's over. The food is so good it numbs my perception of reality. Also, the Dr. Pepper at their soda fountain mixed with the sheet ice they concoct in their kitchen is the next greatest thing in my life after my wife. I got a chicken salad sandwich. I thought they had accidentally given me tuna when I ate the first half. I realized on the second half that it was just pulverized canned chicken mixed with relish the same as tuna would. My husband tried a bite and confirmed that it was heinous. He had a turkey sandwich on wheat. It was literally just like something you could have made at home. Regular ass walmart sliced wheat bread and everything. Don't even get me started on the strange ass ingredient choices for the two tablespoons of pasta salad they serve as a side. Huge, hard raw carrot chunks, red beans and raw broccoli? I feel pretty damn sick about eating half of a canned chicken salad sandwich that tasted like tuna, especially because we paid almost $20 for that crap. I've been coming here for years and it's one of my favorite spots in town. With that being said, I was pretty disappointed with my latest visit. We got the broccoli cheese soup and were unhappy with the choice after a few spoonfuls. We tried to take it back or switch it out but were told no and that we could buy something else if we wanted. They recommended me to get the Tailgate where it comes with sandwich, one side and dessert(either two cookies or a bar) for only 8 bucks!
