Fulltone mosfet and the PRS Archon. Sounds so good with both the Suhr and Ibanez!

I worked with Artie to make a trade and purchase a Suhr Classic S plus a Fulltone 2 and PRS Archon 25 amp. Artie walked me through the trade and options in a professional and highly knowledgeable fashion. When I got home and connected my setup and was very pleased that the sound we talked about was exactly what I was able to produce with the products he recommended. For sophisticated and nuanced guitar/gear recommendations, I'd certainly recommend Artie and his shop.

A funky little guitar shop in downtown Eugene. I've bought a few rad pedals here recently and a few other niknaks I've needed. They only sell quality items here and it's a bit more of a boutique style shop with a limited selection. They do carry some pretty sick guitars, also a random selection of some cool amps too. An adequate enough music store for a little city like Eugene I think. It might not be the shop it was in its golden heyday, (few shops could rival that bygone era) but this is still a great spot to shop local and pick up some solid gear. I always look forward to seeing what I might find on my next visit.

In short, this is not a very friendly place to shop. Their selection is very limited and they are not very polite.

I appreciate that the staff is not pushy in the slightest, and they seem to respect the relationship between a musician and and their need to fit the instrument that suites them best, which sometimes takes time and trying many different instruments side by side. Also feel that they've been quite fair and reasonable with making deals on trade-ins. Much more so than a corporate music store like Guitar Center. Grateful to have a quality local owned music shop!

The younger guy very stiffly said he couldn't say either way on what book would include what. I asked if he could look through them and help me determine but he shrugged and said he really couldn't say... while the older guy, who likely runs the shop, stood behind him. Quietly watching our interaction, so it felt like I was just being told a scripted answer. It was the weirdest thing for a retail worker to absolutely refuse to help like that. Like others, when shopping, all they do is stand quietly behind the counter unless the older man is on the phone. He also couldn't give me advice on what to choose, as if he didn't want to sway me not to buy something and to get something else. When I asked if he could show me a certain section, he seemed put off by having to walk around the counter to show me, as if I should know where everything is already. I also wanted to get something they had behind the counter, which was just a small and cheap piece, but despite having to look around the store still for the books, he refused to allow me to carry it around and had to keep it at the counter. Like I'm going to run out of the store for an item that is only a few dollars. I think their books are also overpriced. If they are "like new" they are still used, so shouldn't be sold for the price printed on the back of the book. Unless it's a very rare book to find or something. And if they have things written all in them, they shouldn't be almost the same price but only a few dollars off or whatever. A normally $25 book they marked down to $20 because it did have writing all over it, but it rendered it kind of useless if you are wanting to learn it on your own without answers written in. I also experienced a kind of awkward rudeness from the older man, like others have. I probably will not be returning to them since there are other places with competitive pricing and better customer service. I also witnessed the older man on the phone with a few people in a row and was rude to each of them and acted accusatory that what they were selling he couldn't prove was "legit" what they were claiming it was... yes, that is why you do research on a product once they bring it in. Instead of mistrusting someone on the phone before meeting them in person. It helps if you're already well-acquainted with antiques. Why offer to buy an antique instrument off someone if you aren't going to believe it's real? I don't know, it's just not the best environment in my opinion...

Wow, this is service at it's best. So the first time I experienced Windsmith Music my daughter and…read moreI were shopping for a violin for her. We came to try a few of the violins they had. They were great about explaining the different choices they had and talking about some of the different sounds each violin might produce. My daughter tried the four that were in our price range and didn't really experience anything remarkable. So ultimately we ended up playing a German Violin that had the sound she was looking for. Something about being made from wood from the Carpathian Forests, seemed to make a difference :) But I wouldn't hesitate to buy a violin from them. And personally, I'd love to do that b/c their service is so great (more about that next). So recently, we had a problem with our silent (electric) violin. One of the strings was starting to come apart a bit so we decided to get new strings thinking that would fix the problem. We brought the violin back and found out the problem was still there. So we called, and they said to bring the violin back and they'd take a look. We dropped it off and then about a day later they figured out it had to do with a finger guide we had wrapped around the neck which was coming up just enough to cause a problem w/ a couple of the strings. What impressed me though was how kind and helpful they were throughout the whole process. Cassie was the one helping us and she was AMAZING! So basically, the problem was all on us. We are the ones who caused this issue (not them). Yet they took the time to research the problem to try and figure out what it was, then figured out the issue and got us taken care of. Then on top of that we weren't charged anything. At one point they even offered to drop our violin off in Corvallis (where we live) to save us a trip back into Philomath. PRO TIP: If you're traveling from Corvallis, I recommend calling first depending on what you might need. For example, the person you may want to speak with or work with may not be there when you stop by so it might be wise to call again just to be sure. But they truly go above and beyond, give great service, their pricing is very fair and reasonable. We're fortunately to have such a great music business here in the area and I'm excited for the next time we'll be stopping by!

On June 3, 2020 I took my daughter's play guitar that I purchase on Amazon for 17.99 to the Troubadour. The owner/ front guy is old school customer service where he enjoys getting to know the customers. After a 15 minute chit chat he tells me that all strings would need to replaced. I asked for total co$t and he said it would be $11.50 for the package of strings and $20 installation. When I picked it up the next day he gives me a quote of $56 !!!! "For what?" I asked. "Gas and oil, you know things have gotten expensive. Especially kids stuff." I stared at him and said "I really do not understand the gas & oil part. Sounds outrageous!" He said he would give me a discount from $56 to $49. I paid the $49 and went to get a 2nd & 3rd of opinion on cost. Both other places quoted me $20 and no "gas & oil" cost. I am all about supporting local business, but when you get reaped off by local vendors it makes it hard to support them. Corvallis is not a big place and variety is limited. But extorting locals is not the way to keep your business open.
