I had a great time at McKennas. The food and drinks were delicious. It's a bit loud but it's a Pub.

An oldie but goodie! McKenna's Pub has been around forever seems like. I remember going here over 20 years ago for the first time (back before I was a Yelper) and I was impressed with the quality of service and reasonable, potent drinks. Revisiting this spot again after so much time has passed, I see their formula and reputation haven't changed at all. With the ever-changing NYC landscape because of super high rents, the W. 14th St strip that McKenna's is located on has changed quite a bit over the years. Businesses have come and gone, but McKenna's has stood the test of time. The bartenders are friendly and quick to serve up drinks. I haven't seen any of them use a measuring apparatus yet (regardless if you want a basic mixed drink or a specialty cocktail). The pub is large with plenty of seating and TV's. They have 2-for-1 drink specials on all drinks every day of the week from 4 pm - 7 pm and from 12 am - 2 am. When you purchase a drink you are given a poker chip for your next drink. If you decide not to use a poker chip by the end of your stay you can always bring it back to be used another time. read more

Still a very, very solid dive bar. Drinks are reasonably priced (especially their happy hour deal, which they have an early and late night happy hour). Sangria continues to be one of my favorites here and the food always looks so good (classic pub fare). read more

Its a pub. Dingy, crowded, great drinks. The floors and tables were sticky but plenty of seating available. Good company and great drinks makes the perfect pub. Security checks IDs so it is legit and run properly. Kudos to them. If you like sweet drinks get the tropical rum punch. It was too good. read more

Great local pub open for late nights Food: we actually couldn't order any food from their kitchen because by the time we reached the pub it was closed! Come here for happy hour, leave happy. This place has all the great essentials of a pub. Good vibes, good drinks, and solid prices. I came right in time for happy hour which is essentially 2 for 1 beers on draft. Definitely recommend it if you're in the area and looking for a fun pub experience. I gave them 4 stars bc it is relative, and keep in mind it is a pub. So don't go looking for some over the top, bourgeoisie spot. However, if you are looking for a good dive bar, great drinks, cost efficient, and good bar food this is the spot. Did I mention btwn 4-7pm, all drinks are BOGO? $10 for a 8oz burger? We didn't eat but we drank. They have a great happy hour twofers and the prices are great we had 2 beers and 2 white claws $16 awesome! We met a funny kid and laughed a lot we could have stayed there all night but had to get to the museum of illusion. Not a bougie bar but they have craft beers and house special cocktails. Tried to go to McKennas tonight with my boyfriend. The bouncer immediately rejected him upon entrance. He claimed that he "had enough to drink". But I asked at least 5 times "why are you not letting us in?" He wouldn't answer me initially which is suspicious. To clarify, he had exactly 2 beers stretched out over a period of 2 and a half hours and was completely sober. He has very limited vision and wears an eye patch and I feel the bouncer was being discriminatory towards us. He said he felt dehumanized which honestly breaks my heart. Though, he may react differently to it. I used to like this bar when I was younger but I know better to absolutely never come back here again. It was half empty and the over-priced bar next door was packed. I wonder why? Gee. Something must be wrong here. read more

I was checking out the food there. It's amazing everything looked fresh. It was good. The service is outstanding. The fact that we asked for a drink that wasn't available. So while I haven't been here in about a year, the last time that I popped in for a few beers was exactly like the previous time and the previous time before that and so on. My usual rationale for popping in to McKenna's was based on my heading to the now shuttered Highline Ballroom which closed some time in 2019. My standing order in the place is a couple of Bud Lite pints and depending on when you get there a two for one drink special is something to enjoy. You order a drink and get a poker chip for your next drink, its a sweet deal and now most assuredly based on everyone needing to tighten their belt. I also always order one of their hamburgers since they just make them so good there. With this I add cheese or course and like the fries on the side. It's just a little bit extra but overall is a very affordable addition to the experience. The staff are cordial enough based on what I've observed. There are a host of regular patrons to the place and in addition to some tables and booths on the side, there are some games and a pool table in the rear. They generally play loud disco or house music but I have heard some Rock there on occasion. Sometimes its a wee too loud but hey its a NYC bar and everyone is looking to let loose after work. I look forward to returning and meeting friends once more for a very long overdue beverage of the alcoholic kind. read more

Many of my colleagues used to go there regularly for drinks after work and special occasions, but also for decent burgers, etc. The great news is they have two pinball machines which is always a plus in my book. I got a burger there recently, which was quite good as well. Can't comment on the drinks because I haven't had any there in years. McKenna's is easily one of my favorite bars in the city. It's one of those go-to, consistently great spots. There are tables and booths throughout, too. One of my favorite things about McKenna's is how they celebrate/decorate for the holidays. Being an Irish bar, they go all out with food and drinks for St. Patty's. It's a can't miss event! I haven't been during covid because I unfortunately haven't been back in the city. I got together with classmates, and we made our way to the village in Manhattan. We had no particular place in mind that day, and we stumbled upon McKenna's Pub. We walked in to a busy bar. The place was packed, but we were fortunately able to find seating toward the back of the place. It was a booth, too, so all of us were able to sit together. One of their signature poker chips got us drink specials, which If I remember correctly was a 2-for-1 special. In spite of the bar being busy, the bartenders were on it. We did not wait long to get our drinks, and they had a good amount of booze. The place had alright air conditioning, and the place was kept tidy. This place essentially robs you. Charged me $10.40 for a $7 Guinness without telling me the reason they were doing it was because there was a $10 card minimum. If they had, I obviously would have bought a second beer. The bartender was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I'll never come back. read more

Stopped here simply because it was practically on top of the subway station we were looking for and it was a great choice. Most excellent prices for burgers and chicken strips with some of the best fries I have had in years. There was a decent variety of draft beers. The service was quick and pleasant as well. Just a tad seedy, BUT I like seedy I stopped by McKenna's very early on a Sunday afternoon, so the bar was kind of empty, except for a couple of interesting folks. But hey, who can pass up a 2-4-1 drink special that starts when the bar opens? Although there were only three 5-8 people in the pub during my visit, I can imagine that this place has a more relaxed vibe than other places in the area. Plus the pub's jukebox was rocking all of the top hits from the late 90's and early 00's - one of my favorite "eras" of music. The food is pretty typical for pub-style food. You will not get gourmet-style burgers here, but they will satisfy your hunger. The burgers are HUGE for the price tag of seven bucks. My burger and salad satisfied my appetite, especially after running 13 miles. The bartender on staff seemed really cool and down to earth. Omg! It was like I used to live here for a good 4 years of my life. I think McKenna's broke me into loving the dive bar scene. I can't tell you one bad thing that has happened to me here. The staff is amazing and definitely know how to help you unload if you are in here after work. Of course, the crowd is of all types....this can be a plus or a minus depending on who YOU are. Happy hours galore and plenty of people to talk to. The barkeeps are chill and non-judgemental and heavy handed on the pours. The food is delicious and can be had to go. What more can you ask for??? Location is right, the bathrooms are clean and this place is a guaranteed good time. I've met attorneys, designers, restaurant owners, models and all types here. TLDR: Everything sucks about this place, but the kicker is they'll overcharge you by DOUBLE the amount and refuse to fix their scam. Worst bar experience EVER. Drinks: 1/10 They have such a low selection of drinks. There's like 4 beers on tap and barely any cocktails. Service: 0/10 I've never had a worse experience at a bar. The bartender had an attitude with us all night, for no good reason. I was a bit late and joined my friends who were all already sitting there. 2/3 of them had already gotten a drink. Within 5 minutes of sitting down, the bartender came over and sassed us, saying that we all had to get a drink or we'd get kicked out. I hadn't even had a chance to look at the menu and I'm not sure why she was so snarky seeing as it was super empty in there because it was a random Thursday night. I got a drink, but one of my friends didn't since he wasn't feeling well. The bartender came over one more time saying we had to leave, since our one friend didn't get a drink. THEN, as we were closing out, she charged one of us $15 for a beer that should've been $7. We tried to reason with her, but she started yelling at us with attitude, so we just signed the check and left. This was definitely a scam. I am so glad I stumbled across this place yesterday. Was in the area looking for a good happy hour spot and their 2for1 happy hour that goes until 8pm cannot be beat! I got there and around 5 and it was already a little crowded, but after about 10mins I was able to grab a seat at the bar. I ordered a whiskey sour which was made pretty strong, and I ended up babysitting it for a hour (don't judge me). They give you a different colored token based on the price of the drink you ordered, and you can redeem it for a free drink. You have to redeem it before the happy hour ends, but I overheard the bartender tell someone that you can come back and use it another day so that's definitely a plus. When I first got there, they were playing a lot of pop music, but as the night went on a new group took over the jukebox and hip hop and rap started blaring through the speakers. Not sure if it's a jukebox you pay for or what, but I saw ppl hovering in that area. Drinks are reasonable, $10 for whiskey sour. HAPPY HOUR!! (2 for 1 drink specials, can't go wrong with that) This is a nice little divey Irish pub to get cheap drinks at during happy hour and meet some interesting people. I was here last night with a friend and we had a good time. Drinks were cheap and place was packed with all walks of life. Decor is your typical dive bar but seemed to be kept pretty clean. Staff seemed friendly and pretty fast with service. Haven't tried the food here yet but from the menu it was very simple in food section which you'd expect from a place like this. We went in to watch World Cup, first US game. it was playing but without sound (and the music in the bar was loud). When I asked if they might turn on the sound and turn off the music for such an event, The bartender told me it was hardly an important game. This was gratuitous nastiness because, when pressed he acknowledged that they never broadcast sports with sound. We noticed then that the monitor next to ours had subtitles; however when we asked if ours could be turned on, it became clear they couldn't be bothered. Certainly never going back. What's crazy is that this bar is kind of my normal spot to go to...when I have to pee after a night out of drinking somewhere else. If I am leaving from a bar past 34th street and I am on the L train and have to use the bathroom AGAIN...just hop off the L at 8th Ave and go to this bar right out of the station, take a pee and hop right back on the train again... FINALLY came here recently though for some ACTUAL drinks. Good thing I did. It was a Monday, happy hour so had two for one beers. The female bartenders are very friendly and attentive. Would I come here though on a regular basis? Probably not being that it is not my first choice of bars, especially on a hang out night with friends and I don't really hang out around the 14th Street/Union Square area but if I ever have to pee before hitting 14th street while on the L, this is where I will be heading and if I am not fully inebriated, just might take part in a drink or two. read more

Standard pub joint. Great location on 14th and 8th Ave by the A/C/E train. Dope happy hour 2 for 1 specials. They apparently go all out for Halloween too, cuz that place could be a haunted house with all their decorations this October. They got the juke box and a lil pinball machine in the back too.
