Great bar! Amazing staff. Definitely recommend if you are in the west village neighborhood.

We went here for snacks and football-watching last weekend, so didn't get the full nightlife experience (from the other reviews, that may have been a good thing). We got chicken tenders and sweet potato fries which were rock solid bar food offerings. Cool-looking interior and lots of space. I will say that this review may need to be revised after seeing the late-night scene. So far so good! read more

Underwhelming environment and overpriced drinks to boot. One bud light (bottle) was $9. The security guards placed throughout the establishment gave the feeling that buried treasure was hidden somewhere. They were not overly aggressive, but strangely brooding. One redeeming quality was on the lower level they had the Winter Olympics playing in the televisions. So adding stars for USA pride. Very crowded and busy. If you're coming here just be in the right mindset for a large group of young adults still not sure what they're doing in life -- like me. read more

Solid late night spot- 4 friends and I stopped in after dinner for an evening cap- they closed around 11/11:30 I think? Waiters were attentive and they had live music. I didn't go to the bathroom but heard it was very small so warning....go to the bathroom prior to coming here! lol Since it's covid time we also had to order food- we shared pigs in a blanket and mozzarella sticks. Threw a surprise bday for my boyfriend here last weekend and this was hands down the best event planning experience I've ever had in NYC. We rented a private room upstairs for a very reasonable price for NYC. Our waitress absolutely crushed it and kept the drinks flowing all night long, which is so impressive given how many people we had. I was so worried that we wouldn't be able to get drinks like at so many other restaurants/bars when there's a server instead of bar service, but she was so attentive and all around great throughout the night. On top of that, the manager James was INCREDIBLY kind throughout the planning process as well as that night. I can't thank him enough for his patience in answering my million questions that I called about, as well as helping me set up for the party. The party was a smashing hit and everyone had the best time. The night was SO so special and it wouldn't have been possible without James and our kickass waitress (I unfortunately cannot remember her name! but she was great). It was his favorite birthday he has ever had, and a memory we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Planning an event in nyc is such a pain sometimes (people can be so unkind and difficult!), but the Galway hooker team made it so easy and stress free. I feel like I've been here a million years ago for drinks. They have an upstairs spacious level I vaguely remember being in. Came by for happy hour drinks with a friend recently largely because he picked a spot that had no happy hour and the drinks weren't cheap and mentioned seeing this on my walk over with a sign sporting: "$5 summer pints". Um, in this neighborhood? Yes please. So off we went. Upon checking in I noticed you get a free shot thanks to Yelp. Why the hell not. Unfortunate flip side is that once happy hour ends - it was either 6 or 7pm - the beers on draft are $9. That's the most expensive I've seen yet for a dive Irish pub. The place is a little broey, but it also isn't as deuchey as other bars. I have mixed feelings but I appreciate any good happy hour with bar seating and wide open windows for a nice late summer breeze. read more

We happen to run into this bar as we were trying to scape the crowds of the pride parade it was hot out & we wanted drinks. The place was jammed pack but still had some wiggle room to move about we stayed at the bar below, drinks had some Summer ale beer nice & cold ... after a few of these we needed something to pick on & got an order of the Mozzarella sticks not sure how nice I was but these were great!! Big mozz sticks were good nice & cheesy, great when dipped in the sauce totally hit the spot. The bar itself is pretty big with 2 levels each was as crowded as the next. Came here on a Thursday night and it was busy and super crowded. We were supposed to meet a group of other people but couldn't find them because they were all the way at the back seated and it took forever to get through the crowd. The entire bar was filled with people waiting to get their drink orders as well as people just hanging and drinking their drink. There is an upstairs, but the entire vibe of the place wanted to be downstairs. It was super loud there and I couldn't really have a decent conversation without yelling into someone's ear, so we migrated to the stairs. Eventually we moved closer to the entrance where there was a bit more room and then outside for when we were about to leave. The beer selection wasn't very good. There were just poor and bad mainstream options. I would definitely recommend this place to get started or to meet up with a large group, but otherwise if you're just a few friends, I'd skip. Just had my birthday party here this past Saturday. It was 3 hours, open bar, and we got food platters. There were about 25 of us and it was the best time ever! James and everyone else who waited on us went above and beyond, were so attentive, and made sure everyone was having a great time. The food and drinks were great and definitely worth it. They really made this one of my favorite birthdays ever, and I am so happy I was able to have it here! Absolutely recommend for anyone planning a fun event or even just a night out. read more

DO NOT host a private event here. The manager is extremely rude, your event will not be private, and you will be scammed. Extremely overcrowded, it's probably a safety concern and all your guests will have to walk through the disgusting crowd to get to your area. Piece of shit ownership. Everything here is a scam to collect more money from people. Showed up for an open bar from 9-12, 80$ charge. Tipped the bartenders well on first visit. At 11:30 the owner, "Alex", shut down the bar and said no more drinks which we were entitled to as a group saying, "we need more people. It's all about money, not you and your friends". It's a reasonably priced option in the area and that's hard to come by. It doesn't pretend to be more than what it is, and we were seeing a show at the church down the block so we just wanted something quick, easy, and affordable. They really do drinks more than food, we walked in around dinner time on a weeknight with the only menu being a $10 happy hour menu. Mozzarella sticks, fries, burger, chicken tenders. Things like that. The drinks were being pushed more and they seemed to have a happy hour deal on everything. To their credit the chicken tenders were good enough. They had a breading more like panko and weren't too tough or chewy. The turkey club did have some bones in it but they were cool about taking that off the bill. Fries are straightforward. Waitstaff was nice. In the winter the front by the windows gets really, really cold. They have a space heater but it didn't do much, if you tend towards being chilly ask to be seated further into the bar, they also have an upstairs. read more

Stick to the drinks. The mozzarella sticks we ordered ($9) could have been served hotter (they were almost cold when we got them). And the buffalo chicken wrap ($15) -- it's basically chicken (without buffalo sauce) wrapped inside a tortilla. Literally that's it. No lettuce. Nothing. Ah, a birthday party. The only reason I would ever end up here. For some reason, it smelled like wet, dirty, stank homeless man on the 2nd floor. I'm sure it was just a coincidence that was also the floor where 15 of my friends had congregated to celebrate someone's bornday. Aside from the stench of my closest pals, this is your average fratty pub, with large groups of dudes in collared shirts, $7 well drinks, and for no reason at all, a fucking bathroom attendant. I hate bathroom attendants. Actually, that's inaccurate, I just hate that they HAVE a bathroom attendant in a place like this. I don't actually hate the guy, because it's not his fault. Bar is great, but the bouncer is a huge issue. On Saturday, 2/19 the bouncer at the door not only yelled at every single person in line, but at one point got into a young woman's face, cursed at her, ripped her ID from her hand, and screamed at her, embarrassing her in front of everyone. He then proceeded to yell at every girl in line, sometimes even get in their faces, and push people away for doing nothing but waiting in line. It was disgusting behavior and frankly quite frightening especially to have a man yell in young woman's faces. I hope he never has a night like that again. read more

Lots of negativity on this page and I'm not sure why. I had a mostly decent time watching football on the third floor. The space is super cozy yet spacious, the fries are tasty, and the turkey burger was above satisfactory. The bartender was also a sweetheart and ridiculously attentive. The only deal-breaker for me was the lack of a drink special. When I partake in a Sunday Funday, I'm not looking to drop $7-8 bucks per drink. I would have mobilized to another venue but my friend, 'moneybags', offered to treat. As an aside, their Christmas tree was beautiful. The Galway Hooker feels almost lab-designed to breed the perfect fratty night. There are multiple levels, so you could roll in with your entire crew. There are flat-screens above the bar showing hockey and football at the same time. There is lots of beer. There are nachos. It's in the West Village. Ergo, nearly everyone in this establishment was in a sorority or fraternity in college. That beer is not awful prices for the West Village; draft beer, mostly imports, are $8 a pint. Well shots also had okay prices. After being smushed up against the wall the whole time, we decided to bow out after an hour. It may have 4 levels, but it's a narrow space, and everyone congregates right around the doorway. Bathrooms are also egregiously small. read more

Crap food. Crap service. Crap atmosphere... Just crap. I honestly tried to find one redeeming quality about this place but it is so down the toilet that there's no redemption possible. First of all this place is absolutely filthy and should probably be shut down for it's obvious health violations. (I've seen the kitchen and can assure you you do not want to eat what they are slopping together back there.) Literally found a piece of hair in my food and maybe a wood chip or something??? Not that a hair and a woodchip not being in my food would've made it taste any better.. The owner is very racist and rude! Therefore, black people please think twice before coming here. I came here with a large group of people that ordered drinks - I did not. I asked the waiter can I charge my phone and he said sure I can ask the bartender if there is any place I can charge, to which they said there isn't because I didn't have the wall piece. My friend then asked the waiter again, this time noting she had the piece to which he said sure there is a spot "here" pointing to a corner near the outside. I charged my phone for maybe 5 minutes and the owner (older white woman) came out and said you have 10 minutes left. You can't charge your phone here. I said "okay sorry, your waiter said I could" she tells me he is wrong and that I have to be a customer. I said ok and stopped charging, bought a $14 shot of grey goose and tipped 2 dollars. I asked for the owner and showed her my receipt. She said you can't drink outside, I said I don't want to drink outside. I will charge my phone at the nearest table. She then told me I can't sit down because it's reserved. I said no one is sitting there. I also said I don't want my drink, I bought it because you said I have to be a customer so now what is the issue? She then says nope you still can't charge and guess what!! She then tells me she is calling the cops on me! She calls the cops and they arrive. She comes out and says I and my friends can talk with them and she never comes out. The cops told me it's unfortunate but I should write a negative review, which is what I'm doing now. Thankfully the officers were understanding that she was in the wrong. I left and I refuse to ever come back here. I don't support establishments such as this. I could have been jailed or worse beaten. However, people like her don't understand and always resort to calling cops. I did nothing wrong but she seems miserable, so I can understand her actions. She came up with every excuse in the book to not have me there. The cops mentioned that she wanted me to leave. Which is disgusting. However, again she looks like a miserable person so I can understand. I hope one day she can learn to be inclusive and understanding of different cultures. I will continue to hold on to my receipt, because she seems like the type to say this never happened. Not today! Black people you have been warned.
