My first impression walking through the door was how cute this place was. A neat little boutique with high end products and trinkets lining the shelves. I was impressed that it was owned a run by a nurse as well...Unfortunately what started off as a satisfactory experience ended on a sour note when fallowing my procedure (lash extensions)I had an adverse reaction to the products used... Almost immediately I noticed a burning in my left eye with mild irritation in the right... The owner who is a nurse did not think this was unusual and suggested that I stand in front of a fan which did provide temporary relief. During my visit we spoke at length about many things, I shared details about my battle with cervical cancer, how after treatment I lost my eyelashes. She shared stories about her teenage daughter...we both spoke about how people needed to be kinder to one another and I felt really good having shared what felt like a sincere exchange of fellowship with this woman.I was pleased with the lashes, they looked very nice! When she explained that the adhesive might cause a little irritation and even though I have had lash extensions done multiple times prior and had never experienced this type of discomfort, I was satisfied with her explanation after all she's a nurse and would likely know if this was anything out of the ordinary. I left pleased. This was a Friday...during my almost hour long drive home I noticed the burning seemed to intensify. By the time I got home my left eye was pretty bloodshot and was runny. I read up on my symptoms online and was vigilant of my condition through the weekend. I finally called her on Monday. I got her voice mail and she returned my call Tuesday. By this time my left eye was discharging regularly and both eyes were red and irritated. I explained what was going on. She indicated that I probably had an allergic reaction to the adhesive she used. I have had this procedure done at 3 other facilities and never had a reaction like this! I asked her what type of adhesive she used and she explained that she could not tell me the brand of products she used as she could not risk her competitors finding out. I explained that I just wanted to know to be able to avoid the product moving forward. She insisted that she could not do that. I asked her if I could come in and have the lashes removed as my eyes were getting worse the longer they stayed on. She said absolutely not as the product she used to remove them was very strong and I would likely have a sensitivity to that as well. She told me to use coconut oil and gently rub them off. I expressed concern that rubbing them continually trying to remove them gradually might spread the irritation and prolong my discomfort. (And it did)This did not sway her. I ststed that as I was not going to be able to keep the lashes on and in consideration that the package I purchased Included another treatment perhaps I could come in and redeem one of the other services she offered in the same price range or pay the difference if necessary and she declined that as well stating that as this was a Groupon and already received a discount.however considering that I only received partial service and being that she refused to attempt to correct the problem I do not feel it was appropriate for her to accept payment but ...she did... I paid for services I was not able to redeem. She felt she did her job and that it was not her fault that I had a bad reaction , which is partially true but part of her job is providing safe and satisfactory services to her clients. The name MED-SPA combined with the owner possessing a nursing degree creates a false sense of security that you are receiving medical grade services...she went on to say that she'd only seen one other scenario like this in the entire time she has been in practice and continued to blame my over sensitivity to products , exploiting information I shared with her about an allergy I had to MRI dye. I became adamant that she at least give me the name of the adhesive and she continued to refuse. She said she would get a list of the ingredients for me which she did email me. I spoke with my physician about it and gave her the list of ingredients which she said are pretty much in all adhesives and that the manufacturer would be more useful as many companies use different techniques and that the levels and grades of each ingredient can vary in each formula. She felt it was extremely unprofessional especially considering that this woman is a nurse, that she would put anything above the safety and well being of a patient (customer). I've discussed this experience with friends and family and everyone seems to agree... I've reflected on this quite a bit before posting this. Now the things I believed made this a good experience no longer sit well with me. read more
