I come to Harrisburg for work a few weeks a year and love exploring downtown. McGrath's has been busy every time I've come here and I've never had a bad experience. Later in the evening it does get difficult to find a place to sit and I don't love that people are basically just standing over you waiting for a table to open up but what can you do, it's not very large and there isn't any where else to stand. Lots of great cold drink options, the ambiance is wonderful and has a good food menu. Every server/bartender I've met here are nice and helpful. Can't wait to come back in the Spring when I'm back in town! read more

I looked foward to going to McGraths for their Fish and Chips. It was fried, old Salmon that smelled old and fishy. I will never go back.

First time there. Had their Hunter's Chicken. Very good and very filling! Will definitely go back and test out other menu item. read more

Had the Sausage Stroganoff, great flavor. Friends had the Fish and Chips, the fish was salmon and they seemed to enjoy it. Good beer selection. Good music. Would go again. read more

When the old owners sold, the food quality stumbled. We always ordered the Celtic wings and loved the special Guinness buffalo sauce and house made ranch. It changed so much I actually wrote them off, but my family loves the nostalgia and we've been coming there for years. Thankfully they are coming back, this last visit was pretty good. I look forward to going back to a 5 star here! read more

Our group had lunch here while in the Harrisburg area. Place was busy on a Saturday afternoon and filled with what appeared to be locals. It definitely has an Irish Pub feel inside. Service was good - and we really appreciated that they accommodated our food allergies. We had the meltdown burger, Fresh and Simple Grilled Chicken, Southwest Chicken Fiesta special and the kids had chicken tenders. Everyone enjoyed their meals but the standout was the chicken fiesta. Portions were generous and prices were reasonable. A solid choice if you are looking for a meal in Harrisburg. read more

Not at all what they used to be. It's gone down hill since the owner change. They've gone through many employees since then. The new service staff is pretty lazy/unattentive. I have heard nothing positive from word of mouth as of lately. read more

Great food; good atmosphere and good service. Enjoyed the IPA's with the dinner, which I think was a beef shank with potatoes. Will definitely go back again. read more

Don't order the Shepherd's Pie. After two bites of mashed potatoes, I went searching for what was underneath. I found two tablespoons of ground lamb, two bites of carrots and literally six peas. Nothing else. read more

I went there for lunch. The Carolina bbq bacon burger is fantastic! Drinks are a touch pricey, but worth it in my opinion. Our waitress was nice and attentive. No complaints. Scotch eggs, Carolina burger, Guinness, 2 Johnny drinks, a cider, Irish breakfast= about $70. Will go again. read more

This is a great pub in downtown Harrisburg. There is street parking and parking lots all around. The hours are a little different due to Covid, but they are still open to serve you. They are wearing masks and adhering to guidelines. If you haven't yet, please try their food. It is quite good and with a good price to match. This place serves the best BLT I've ever had in my entire life! I love their "chips" too. They are "french fry" like rippled chips that are just the right crispy on the outside and warm on the inside. The crab pretzel is delicious! The fish and chips are delicious! The burger is delicious! Must I keep going? Lol. You can order their food togo as well. Check out this pub any time of the day whether it's for a short lunch or a late night out. You will not be disappointed. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful as well! read more

Needed a place to grab a quick meal and watch the Steelers beat the Bengals. Glad I found McGraths. Courtney mixed me an outstanding Old Fashioned and then I ordered the Dublin wings(sweet and spicy) and a side of fries. As you can see, the food was perfect, delicious and the atmosphere was great. The round fries were covered in some sort of seasoning, sorry but I didn't ask. Anyway, next time I am in town, I will come back and try either the Reuben fries or the Pastrami on Rye. read more

Love the green tiles! Celtic wings are my favorite. The staff is awesome! Great place to visit after work.

This is a hidden gem in Downtown Harrisburg. Great beer selection had my all time fav Chimay blue. Went there for food. Ended up staying a number of hours chatting. Highly recommend getting the Irish Pub Chicken it's super tasty be warned it is lot of food, also had batter dipped pub Salmon which was exceptionally good. I would highly recommend this place! read more

Good old-fashioned Irish pub with some local foods from the region. I ordered Crab cake with blarney cheese sauce. Not sure what's the norm for blarney cheese sauce, but I like things to be super cheesy instead of saucy. This is kinda like tar tar sauce (not as acidic) with a thin layer of cheese on top. $26. Good local draft selection. Lots of beer from a local fav troges. Crab cake tasted pretty good when I can taste them. mostly crab with minimal filling, a little on the small side but consistent with the region. (I cannot taste anything if there are any cigarette smokes present) There is a smoking area upstairs that reeks into the pub, and most patrons are smokers that smokes with every 2 sips of beer. So if you would like a side of chemo with your dinner & or beer. This is the place to be! read more

Solid 5 stars, great food, good beer selection, fabulous friendly service, centrally located, Irish Pub charm, extremely clean bathrooms, oh and it's worth mentioning fantastic staff/service a second time. I've been visiting Harrisburg monthly on biz for several years and somehow I missed this little gem up until this last week. It's my first choice for food/beer in Harrisburg going forward. I had the Chipotle Chicken Salad, Chicken wings, Blackened Caesar Chicken Wrap and Jalapeño Burger over the course of four visits this week, everything was delicious. read more

Stopped in here a few days ago, and had an absolutely phenomenal experience. My fiance and I came in today, and sat at a table. The bartender was behind the bar on his phone. Never even acknowledging us. A separate group of people came in a few minutes after us, and sat at the table next to us. He immediately greeted them, and brought them over menus, while still ignoring us. We ended up just leaving. It was disheartening, and I'm not sure if we will ever be back. read more

The fiancé and i decided where to eat after 3 hours of debating . we chose McGrath's Pub ! Walked in ready to eat ! The tenders clearly had other ideas for us . The one lady served us our soda and handed our menus to us, then told us Anna would be serving us . Welp 5 minutes turned to 10, 10 turned to 15 . Still no contact with us . Wasn't busy had 2 people in the whole place . We got tired of waiting & walked out ! As walking out she then decided to ask us if we wanted lunch . No thank you ! poor service . We will not be returning ! read more

Good food and friendly staff. In from out of town on a Thursday evening and wanted some local flavor. Place was busy when I arrived but not really loud. Feels like the sort of place friends and coworkers that work downtown meet to socialize. Didn't get the usual "you ain't from around here" vibe I get in other cities, so I'll count that as a plus for McGrath's and Harrisburg. read more

OK. I'm eating crow on this one and it has nothing to do with the food. I hadn't been there in a few years so when my husband recommended this as a post-soccer game weekend lunch . . . I wasn't enthusiastic. I wanted something more interesting and I didn't want "bar food". I hate bland and bar food is often bland. Well, when we walked in it smelled smoky. I made a comment about it. Turned out it was the hostess who had just taken a smoke break. Oops. Off to a great start. Our server was good and we soon had our orders taken (despite indecision on my part which delayed the process). My son ordered one of the $10 burgers and it was fantastic. A big, juicy burger on a decent bun. The fries were also good. I ordered the Pub Club which was very good except for the bacon which tasted deep fried (which tends to strip out much of the flavor in exchange for good crunchiness). So big, I had to take half of it home. Not bad for $10. Again, the fries were good. Daughter ordered the BBQ wings. She really liked them. Hubby ordered the Shepherd's Pie which had a flavor I hadn't encountered with that dish before, and it was really good. Definitely worth the $13. Over all, a great experience. Quaint, Irish pub look and feel. Only one compliant. They must have been cleaning in the kitchen because there was a lot of noise and the sound of spraying and the smell of bleach. It was the bleach smell that made things unappetizing. Kind of made your nose burn. Also made me wonder if the bleach was in some way getting on the food. read more

I cant believe how great this food is! That's an understatement on how delicious it was! Highly recommend

This place is great. A laid back drinking oasis in a sea of booty clubs. McGrath's has an older, but still kind of rowdy crowd. One can tell upon entering that it's full of professional drinkers, hockey players, or both. I sensed a family vibe between the patrons and the staff. The most awesome part about this bar is the huge selection of craft beer. I hadn't seen this anywhere in Harrisburg yet, and was very excited. I would pick McGrath's to hang out at if I happened to be in town again. read more

Had a huge craving for fish and chips.... unfortunately I still do. They were the worst I have ever had. Straight from the freezer at 14 dollars a pop very unsatisfying. 3 stars because I can't judge worse or better without trying their other food. read more

I never thought I would say this but this is a smoking bar/pub and I would come here again in a heartbeat! Normally I would avoid a smoking establishment like the plague but these folks are so good I've made and exception. I was in town on business and walked in here based on the solid 4 star Yelp reviews. I arrived at the tail end of happy Hour on a Tuesday and the place was jammed. I was lucky and only waited 10 minutes to snag a seat at the bar. The smoke was discernible but I knew that coming in so I was prepared. Regarding beer; these guys have about twenty taps and ton of bottles. All together the selection is very good. I'd had a very tough day so I needed something with a kick. Stone Double Bastards did the trick. As I sipped my draft I noted that two thirds of the folks at the bar were eating and they looked very happy. The guy to my left was tackling a platter with a 1 lb. flame grilled rib-eye with all the trimmings. This thing was huge and he said it was delicious. It's the most expensive item on the menu at $30. Most everything else is much easier on the wallet. The gentleman to my right was enjoying a meatloaf sandwich on toasted sourdough ($8). He also said it was excellent. I choose the Simple Steak. It's a 6 oz. Flat iron and you pick either grilled or blackened and I choose the latter. It comes with the vegetable of the day and goes for $14. This steak was way beyond average pub food. It was cooked correctly and the blackening was perfect. The vegetables were sautéed Brussels sprouts with red peppers and mushrooms and they were outstanding. So I could do without the smoke but otherwise my visit was excellent. I also award these folks 4 stars. read more

Pure perfection to someone like me. I start by entering the restaurant/bar on the ground level and settling in with a Extra Irish coffee and a shepherd's pie. After the food is gone I move upstairs and take a comfy seat ordering a Guinness and an Irish Whiskey. Then out comes my iPad to get some work done and a good cigar. One of the few places grandfathered in for this. The Food - The fare is what you would expect to find at any irish pub. Obviously made from classic recipes and made with care for your enjoyment. A myriad of drinks and I watched many of them mixed speedily yet with no less care than placement of the food on plates. The place excels at the small touches that make the experience worth the price. The Price - The food seems to be market price and no complaints there. Drinks were a little above average. The beer and standards seemed about equal to the other bars in the area however the specialty and mixed drinks were definitely more. However worth it in my opinion. The Service - This is the winner. Over the multiple times that I was in I was treated like a family guest. No matter how full the place was. Bartenders and Waiters/Waitresses would stop and talk when not busy and I had more than one good conversation with the owner while up smoking my pipe in the smoking lounge. Clarification - On the upper level there is a secondary bar that allows smoking, a smoking lounge (comfy chairs in living room fashion), a game room, and a outer deck. I used all during my visits. read more

I got the bangers and mash. The meal was proper and authentically Irish. I had a beer with it that complimented the meal as it was a UK import. The whole experience was good. Great staff, great food, nice environment for a calm night out. read more

Stopped in for happy hour and to celebrate some birthdays on a Monday evening and it sure looked like so did everyone else! This place was busy for a Monday and it shows that with great deals and good food, you draw a crowd any day of the week. We called ahead for a table and they reserved this were very accommodating. The place is small so trying to maneuver was a little challenging. The place is very cozy so it's a very inviting space for a date or for a small gathering. My husband ordered the shepard's pie and he loved it! It came in a little crock and was filled to the top. I ordered the cup of potato soup which was perfect for the cold weather and the appetizer portion of the fish and chips...minus the chips. The fish was salmon and it was in a beer batter coating. It was so light and crisp. It was delicious! It was 5 generous pieces. The tartar sauce was very good and tasty. This is a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy a good meal. Come for happy hour and enjoy the beer, Moscow mules and wings. I will definitely be back again soon!! read more

Four words: Thanksgiving Feast Turkey Burger Never heard of such a thing? Neither did I until I saw it as one of the current specials at McGrath's Pub. What is it? Well, it's everything I love about Thanksgiving wrapped up into one huge sandwich: grilled turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and cranberry sauce, all piled on a Ciabatta roll. I couldn't believe I was reading the menu correctly and had to try it. After the bartender put the plate down, I first tried eating it with my hands like a burger, which turned out to be an impossible task. So I resorted to knife and forking it to completion. It was an absolute delicious mess, complimented with a pickle and potatoes sliced like potato chips but with the consistency of French fries. French chips? I don't know, but the whole meal was tasty and filling. Actually, I'm having a repeat craving just thinking about it again. Add in a half-price Happy Hour (4-6 pm) on all 20+ taps and I was patting myself on the back for deciding to stop here. Although it took awhile to get a seat at the busy bar, the entire visit was certainly worth the wait. read more

November 11, 2022 - Veterans' Day - Lunch today at McGrath's Pub was terrific. Server Kimberly R. was a real pro - friendly, attentive, accommodating, and efficient. I had one of the day's specials: Bacon-wrapped meatloaf, red potatoes, roasted fresh Brussels sprouts, and brown gravy, plus freshly buttered bread. It was delicious, very flavorful, and juicy. My companion ordered a starter of Duck Flat Bread, which was described as soooo good! This was followed by the Ryan Sandwich with pub fries and pickles. Also given high marks. Great Irish Pub in Harrisburg. My fiancee and I spent the majority of NYE here, and it was really great! The wings are where it's at! So gooooood! The delmonico steak was exceptional and prepared as I asked for it (rare). This place makes me wish I lived on the East Coast almost all by itself! Really cool atmosphere, including really great stained glass windows! DEFINITELY check this place out! read more

My wife and I have been going to McGraths since we met there is 2014 and it remains our favorite place in Harrisburg for good reason. They always welcome you like you're a long lost friend, the beer selection is ever changing and has a good mix, and best of all the menu is good with quite a few standout items. The specials are creative and never dull. Last night we tried the PB&J wings and were not disappointed. We'll keep going back and will always recommend it to anyone visiting from out of town. They have handled this messed up COVID world like a champ and have gone above and beyond to take care of the guests, while remaining safe for their staff. read more

McGrath's is one of my favorite pubs in downtown Harrisburg, it's has a homey Irish decor about it, with 2 bars, a small outdoor balcony, and a lounge area. The downstairs is usually packed on weekends but you can often find a somewhat more laid back atmosphere in the upstairs bar and lounge. I've never tried the food here but I love how they have such a huge selection of bottled and draft beer. If you check out their website, they update the beers they have on draft (and plan to have) regularly, and they do carry some rare beers you probably have never seen before. Service has always been good for me and as mentioned by other yelpers they do make strong drinks for a fair price. Definitely recommended. read more

We just moved to Harrisburg as our new 'home'. We travel 6-8 months a year. McGraths was one of our favourite spots in town from our first day in town. 4.5 stars? That's what the stars were when we arrived at this pub. I beg to disagree. The service was good, no doubt. But the food was standard pub fare. 3 stars standard. Not quite sure what people were raving about. I had the Irish Pub Burger, prepared medium rare, with chips and a pickle. It was ok. Kind of tasteless for a burger with bacon, cheese and coleslaw, though. The "fries" we're cute, sliced thick chips. A decent decent amount of seasoning was sprinkled on them. Standard. Decent. Good. read more
