First time here and I absolutely enjoyed it to the fullest. The bar was nearly full, so my friend and I sat at a table (able to seat yourself). We were greeted immediately by our server Nick. He was super fun, relatable, and took care of us. I ordered the cherry wheat beer, scotch eggs (YUM), and probably the best caesar salad I've ever had. Nick suggested I get blackened chicken and it was the best suggestion ever. We went during happy hour. 10/10 will be back again. read more

The Reuben sandwich is last meal good. The meat was chopped not sliced and moist not chewy. I would come through Harrisburg again just to have it. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Definitely would recommend the Irish nachos as well-a Reuben on French fries. Nice beer selection. Typical pub atmosphere- laid back and quiet! read more

Second great experience here! Food is great, staff is extremely friendly and efficient. Great vide, prices are good. Had a train to catch and the gentleman bar tender got food and drinks out right away. Great place all around. read more

Awesome food! Burgers bigger than you can eat. Try the salmon fingers. You won't be disappointed. Also nice range of traditional Irish meals. Excellent selections of drafts. Mellow relaxed atmosphere as you would expect at a traditional Irish pub. The staff at this place is incredible.!!!!!!.. Friendly and committed to your enjoyment. Service is attentive. read more

McGrath's Pub delivers tasty American & Irish Pub food with a nice drink selection in a cozy atmosphere in downtown Harrisburg. I've been here with my husband and also with our family. We've enjoyed several menu items. The Blarney Bread is delicious. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Restaurant is clean, warmly decorated and has wonderful stained-glass pieces behind the bar. McGrath's is a definite recommendation. Be sure to check their hours before heading there. read more

I'm pleased my husband too. Amazing burger!! Great service, great selection of music. I Do recommend this place.

Lovely place! One of the few places you can get a nice pour of Smithwicks locally. The calamari was so fresh and delicious! Nice cornmeal breading. The Blarney Bread was delicious but very heavy. A whole meal in itself. Lastly, Emerald Bay Rubbed wings....great crunch and fresh. Sauces are bold! Service was great. The bartender was very friendly and stuck with us and our high maintenance rising throughout. We will be back! read more

Went here yesterday. We had very good service. Great selection of beers. My food was very good. My Girlfriend mentioned that her fish tacos didn't have a lot of fish. They had football (Soccer) on the TV(s). Will probably return if we are in the area. read more

Great old school Irish joint in downtown Harrisburg! I had the wings (10 piece) with a few brewskis. Winds were solid and came with both carrots and celery. The food and cocktails that were being consumed around me looked great as well. Good tap selection and the clientele was friendly. Overall the bar is in a nice, central downtown location. Check it out if you are ever in Central Penna. read more

McGrath's Pub - Nighttime view of McGrath's (exterior). - New American Near Me - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

I love this bar...it's my kind of place and all the yuengling I can drink! After a long flight from the west coast this was my first stop and I am definitely in love. Greeted by nice security guy at the door from Alaska! (You people are all over the place) and a sweet server who took care of us, don't know her name but she was cool! Anyway if you're hungry and searching for grub... you have to order the Blarney Bread- Mozzarella, Parmesan & cheddar cheeses mixed with Irish Mist liqueur & smeared on our cuban rolls & broiled until golden brown. If I could I'll eat this every day if I don't die from it. Also add a side of bangers and mash, and wash it down with a cold glass of yeung ling. read more

Day after a moderate night of snow, and nearly everything in town was closed...except for the Irish pubs in town, for some reason. McGrath's was the first one we saw, and we were hungry for some lunch. It's not just your average pub food. I had the crab cakes, which were fresh, a lot of really good crap mixed with some good quality cheeses, grilled snap peas and some mash. So good, light and satisfying. My friend had the Shephard's Pie, which he devoured. And another friend had the short ribs, which reminded me of my mom's bbq roast beef. Decent portions, a large selection of craft beers, and really friendly and helpful staff. I'd probably be a regular here if I lived in the area. read more

I would have loved to give McGrath's a four star rating, but I had a terrible experience before that is just preventing me from doing so. We had a terrible waitress that was doing an awful job. We came for a late-ish dinner (8pm), and were sitting at our table having beverages afterward. I assume she just wanted to leave, so she gave us attitude and sat at the table right next to us, head in hands, looking incredibly bored. She was rude, so we left ten percent instead of 15. She had the nerve to question our tip. She said, "You know your bill is 80 dollars." She ALSO overcharged our friends, they actually got a refund. Unacceptable. However, can't base an entire overview off of one out of twenty experiences. So this place still gets a 3/5. It's the only place we will come if we are coming out into the late night scene. Very relaxed, reasonably strong drinks for the price, two bars and a lounge area. The food is always good. It's not amazing, it's bar food, but it's definitely better than the average bar. Their Celtic wings are delicious! Also they make fish and chips with salmon! Sounds off, but was quite surprisingly different and yummy. Their specials are usually where they hit their home runs. Pulled venison BBQ sandwich, AMAZING. German style pork and kraut, delectable. If they have a special that even slightly piques your interest, it's usually worth it. If you're coming downtown and want a pub, skip Ceolta's and Molly's. McGrath's all the way. read more

The bottom line is this... If you want a laid back atmosphere, McGraths is for you. If you want to be in a place where everyone is attempting to socialize to meet their future wife/husband, this is not the place for you. If you want a place that makes potent drinks for a fair price, this place is for you. The bottom line is that McGraths makes the strongest drinks for the lowest price. Their long islands do not use long island mix, its the real deal. For that I give it 4 stars! read more

Went here the other night with a colleague and had an awesome time. The bartender was really nice and we chatted about all the different beers they had on tap and gave me her honest opinion of them. She was really friendly and genuinely nice. They also have an amazing liquor selection including but not limited to high end single malt scotches, Johnny Walker Blue, Tito's Handmade vodka, and other fine spirits. The music was great that night with an 80's montage going on and I think everyone in the place including myself was singing along. Impromptu karaoke is always fun. We only drank there so my review is based on drink selection and bar service only. Note: Smoking is allowed in the establishment. read more

My friend had an interview in Harrisburg and I tagged along to keep him company. I actually discovered McGrath's Pub on Yelp when I was looking for cool, beer oriented restaurants to try that were not going to be super expensive. McGrath's was a good find! We were there during the lunch hour and I was surprised to see the pub was nearly deserted save for one other table. It's good a really cool stained glass/dark wood Irish pub look to it. Which is good, bc this is an Irish pub. You could tell this was an Irish pub and nary a shamrock was anywhere. That's a good thing. They have really good drink specials and a good selection of beers on tap. Troegs is my favorite brewery and they had three of their beers on tap, so I was a happy girl. The food is GOOD. Their pub burger was ridiculously messy. I think the bartender saw me try to lick coleslaw off my own chin, but I think that's ok since he works in a bar and has probably seen everything. It was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. It wasn't healthy and after the chin licking incident I left the bar feeling bloated and uncivilized, but I also left happy. The thing about burgers is most restaurants focus on crazy, gourmet toppings and sauces. The key to a good burger is in the meat and theirs was one of the tastiest burgers I've had in awhile. It has coleslaw on it. Try eating one nad not making a mess. My friend had some sandwich of some sort he said was good, but I wasnt paying attention bc my hamburger was exploding all over the table and I was busy. I would definetly come back here again if I were in town. I'm not sure what the crowd is like after dark, but I think this is a pretty good watering hole. read more

McGrath's Pub - This is what is LEFT of my Irish dip roast beef, and I'm stuffed!! - New American Near Me - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Harrisburg isn't at all like Philly, so if you're anything like me, I don't suggest assuming it is. In the midst of a night-life town swarming with whorish hoochies, my friends wanted me to meet them at the bar where they first met. This is a little Irish themed bar with great beers on tap and a really friendly crowd. While I was there it was probably a little bit too crowded for me, but in general it was a pleasant experience. read more

I chose this pub to take my wife for dinner since it is within walking distance to the Whitaker Center where we were going to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D on the second night after the premier. The atmosphere is pleasant and conforms to the tradition Irish pub theme exept they have a nice stained glass which relates to Harrisburg behind the bar. I was very pleased with the venison stew and blackened salmon salad that I ordered and I really like the fact they have the original Gazebo room greek dressing which is very tasty. They have a decent tap selection too which is a definite plus - I tried India by Weyerbacher which is a one-off IPA they did as part of the Nato series following the phonetic alphabet. The bartender said it was an APA but it was definitely an IPA but close enough. The one unique thing about their taps is they have Troeg's Ginger beer soda which my wife ordered. The flavor is full of fresh ginger and it is pretty refreshing. My wife and I enjoyed the service and we listened to some songs on the jukebox which had a good selection of music while we ate. I enjoyed spending time there and will not hesitate to return for dinner - it is very conveniently located. Worth a try if you like good beer and you are in Harrisburg! read more

I'm still in love with this place. I basically now come alone and awkwardly sit alone and laugh at what I'm reading on my iPad. They always are nice, always refill my drinks, and in general, I just like being here. It is comfortable inside and I can always find a single seat at the bar (though if you weren't looking for a single seat, most times you might have more trouble.) The potato soup is amazing - I really enjoy it - and I will probably keep coming back and rotating through more food - their menu is pretty good and I'm always happy with the food quality. And I have been here more than twice - but for some reason Yelp tells me I'm no where near things when I'm sitting in them a lot. read more

Had the Rachel and a cup of potato soup. Both were fantastic. Great Irish pub with a great staff. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

It makes me very sad to have to write something bad about McGrath's, because up until last night it was my favorite place to go on 2nd street! McGrath's has a really neat environment and I love all the different rooms it has to hang out in. The staff have always been very friendly to my friends and I, and the service has always been fast. Last night, my friends and I were there and we were having a good time. I couldn't decide which beer to get so the bartender let me sample one I was unsure about (which I thought was GREAT customer service). It ended up being delicious and I got it. When we all got our drinks, we sat down in one of the rooms and began socializing. One of my friends ran into his brother's girlfriend. They talked for a while and it started to get late and her ride was coming. He wanted to make sure she got to her ride safely so he walked her out. When he came back, the door was locked (around 1:40) and he asked if someone could come let him in so he could finish his drink. I went down to the door and opened it for him and then a bouncer started yelling at us. We tried to calmly explain the situation and that our party was just finishing up drinks and getting ready to go. The bouncer wouldn't reason with us and he kicked us both out. I would understand if it had been past 2 and the bar was closed, but it wasn't. I never got to finish that delicious beer. read more

McGrath's food far surpasses typical pub food. The wings are not merely junk-y, they are interesting. The specials are always changing and feature a wide variety of choices. I've never been disappointed by a meal there. I go often because it's one of the only bars in Harrisburg that I can stand. The upstairs is cozy; the decor is reminiscent of a living room, and the small balcony is perfect to escape the crowd. I dock one point because it, like most bars in Harrisburg, plays the music too loudly. It's as if the bar owners in Harrisburg decided that every pub, bar, or restaurant can double as a dance club. This makes it much less fun for those of us who actually like talking to each other (gasp!). Go to any other city, and the loud music is reserved for the clubs. read more

The food quality has definitely gone down hill since the new ownership. The menu has changed since the new owners took over. The salad dressing doesn't even taste the same as it used to. The wait staff used to be polite and courteous, but that environment has even suffered since the new owners took over. The bar tender is miserable and would service the business better if he just stayed home. We used to frequent here about once every month, but after last night, I don't see myself eating or spending my hard earned money at McGrath's is in the near future. We literally left the restaurant and went to Cafe Fresco and had a great dinner experience there. read more

I stopped by McGrath's a week or two ago to meet friends for drinks at about 6:00 before we saw a show downtown. All the seats in the front bar area were filled and no contiguous bar stools were free. As a result, we walked to the back of the restaurant to the table section (only two tables were taken, the rest of the section was empty). I informed the waitress we were just here for drinks (we were not rowdy or drinking beforehand). The waitress responded curtly, well... I try to keep this back area for people that are ordering food. I asked if upstairs was open... No... well, I said there's no where else to sit. She said its fine & sat us very rudely. I really should have just left, there's plenty of other places to go drinking on 2nd st! We ordered a few drinks and left about 1.5 hr later (Not cheap drinks either - microbeers, mixed & martini). Maybe its just me, but waitress didn't seem too friendly during this time, friends shared this sentiment. Only one other party of two had arrived since we sat down, so the back area pretty much remained empty. I've always had good service here (except when its super-busy which is understandable). Unfortunately, next time I'll probably think twice before I stop in McGrath's again. read more

This is a really odd place....we were passing through Harrisburg, and decided to get a drink and something to eat. We decided to come here, and we were practically the only people in the place. Mind you, this was at 6 PM on St Patrick's Day. The bartenders looked like high school girls who had no experience. They were constantly checking their phones, and it was difficult to get one of them to notice us. I ordered a Guinness draft, and it was flat and sour. Thankfully, I wasn't charged for it. I ordered a White Russian instead, and got a drink made with sour milk. It was utterly disgusting. The decor is nice, but there's something off about this place. Specifically, why there were no locals there on St Patricks Day! They knew something we didn't...that the drinks are unpalatable! I wish we had gone to another place for the brief time we were in Harrisburg. read more

visiting from out of town, this place was incredible. went on a random wednesday night and it was packed, which was why we happened to stop in here. i didn't expect anything great from a "pub" but this place was just fun and cozy. typical pub style, with plenty of beers and tight corners to sit. wasn't too hungry so i got the bacon and ranch fries with added pulled pork on top (+ melted cheese). WOW this was delicious. my boyfriend got a wrap with peaches which was a special, so it isn't on their main menu. usually pubs don't pay much attention to food, but this place really was excellent. service was great as well! never had to ask our waiter for anything. i would definitely stop in here again if i was ever in the area. read more

Great irish pub right off the bustling 2nd street. Always have a game on tv, and good beer. But they also offer a pretty good option for food compared to most bars in the area. read more

Was in Harrisburg for the weekend and wanted a little of the St. Paddy's day spirit. What a cool little pub you have there, the bartender was great and the bangers and mash were delicious! However DO NOT order the fish and chips....absolutely terrible. They served 4 diamond shape fish pucks. My guess is they used cheap, frozen fish. Had an old fishy taste to it and very dry. The chips were the only thing I finished. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area but will stay clear of the fish. read more

Good place for hanging out with some friends. Casual atmosphere. Had Cod fish tacos in the Irish Pub. Go figure. We all enjoyed our food except my buddy who had the breakfast order. 2nd time here. Love this place. Super cool atmosphere, nice Irish themed stained glass above the bar. Sweet draft selection plus a ton of bottled beers...great happy hour deals. The food is really above and beyond your standard pub fare. Tonight we had the Guinness Honey BBQ wings, PA Dutch chicken pot pie special, and crab cake sandwich (so moist it doesn't need the tartar sauce). I'm not a fry person and the fries here are particularly good, cut like crinkle cut carrots and lightly seasoned. Food could have come out a bit hotter considering they weren't that busy, but this seems hardly worth mentioning. If traveling along I-81, McGrath's is worth the stop. read more

McGrath's Pub - Artichoke stuffed portobello salad, bliss in a starter right here - New American Near Me - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Everything that a pub/restaurant should be. Very clean, nicely decorated, awesome food that they obviously put time into, friendly staff, and decent selection of beer. Definitely come here for the food and the drinks second. Get anything that has Guiness in it or any of the traditional Irish dishes. If you want an authentic Irish pub experience, come to this place and tell Coakley's to beat it. The crowd that comes here are a good bunch and well behaved. Their upstairs is kinda intimidating as it seems like you have to know everyone there in order to feel comfortable. read more

Do not go there! Because of "boil water" situation this week in downtown Harrisburg, Friday, diners were charged $1 for a small bottled water, when water is usually free. They did not make patrons aware there would be a charged for water prior to ordering. When this was pointed out to the manager, the customer stated water is usually free and she was note responsible for the water situation, the manager stated the water situation was not their fault either, which is an inappropriate response. The restaurant over charges for food and drinks on a regular basis and should have just absorbed the cost for the bottled water, if they cared about their customers. They also charge the regular price for soda, when they served regular sized cans and no free refills. McGrath's was charging what customers could have bought a 2-liter sized bottle for what they were charging for one little can. The food isn't all that great either for what they charge anyway. They must over pay their staff for what they rake in on a daily basis, or the owner is the only one getting rich by that business. Today was my last day to patronize that place. Their competition is too great for them not to care how they treat their patrons. It was unprofessional how they handled it, They don't care about their customers. Don't eat there! read more

This bar has good drink specials. As for the food I have never tried it before. The service has been good most of the times that I have gone here. I am only giving it three stars because I have had some good experiences there and many of the workers are very kind. The horror story that for two stars removed are once I got a flaming dr. pepper shot and they filled it too high. This resulted in my hard catching on fire and a slight burn. So in all this is a good place to go to try just do not order anything that isn't a typical drink. read more
