We were driving along the western coast of Ireland and had heard that Doolin was a great little city to visit. While we were driving through the area we decided to stop in here for some lunch. Like so many of the pubs in Ireland it was a great cozy place, but bigger than it actually felt. Unfortunately,we were there during lunch time and there was no music playing until the evening. Great fish and chips and wonderful burger, and amazing service. We arrived as part of a bus tour around and were not the only tour bus there. Don't let the tour buses scare you off, although a bit crowded they do a wonderful job getting people seated and served. You order at your table then go get your drinks and pay for everything at the bar. My table ordered the cod and chips and the burgers. Finally after several disappointing fish and chip experiences in Ireland I hit on one I liked. It has to be the type of fish and the beer batter. My table mates had the burger made with irish beef and bacon. I had a bite and it was perfect. This Pub runs like clockwork! The owner get guests seated quickly and the food comes out almost immediately. The Lamb was tender and the veggies were well seasoned. My husband's Fish & Chips was crispy and the chips were more like homemade potato chips than French fries. Definitely try this Pub if you are in Doolan. read more

After a long drive from Dublin, we stopped into McGann's at 7:30pm. We got lucky with a spot at the bar, the place was packed! But for good reason; Food, Beer, and Live Traditional Music. The music was incredible. We stayed until closing time. Met some great people along the way as well. We may have drank a Guinness or two. Ordered the roast and it did not disappoint. It was the perfect hearty meal to have before taking on the Cliffs of Moher the next day. If you are in Doolin, make sure you don't miss out of McGann's! I came to Doolin for the night. After flying in and driving from Shannon Airport, we settled into the B&B and then wanted to take on the town. After dinner we came here for a few drinks and music. It was walking distance to where we were staying, so perfect! The service was great and company even better. I didn't have the food nor did I see anyone with food so not sure I'd recommend it for that, however, the scene was awesome. The folks there were singing along and lively. We actually ended up closing the place out, 1am on a Tuesday! Would highly recommend if you're coming to Doolin. read more

We were only in Doolin one night and McGanns was right up the street. When we arrived we headed straight over for some good food and Guinness and realized that this was the place for entertainment but it didn't start until later in evening. We ate - rested up at hotel and traveled back for excellent entertainment and more drinks. Friendly and lively - great Irish music. If you stay in Doolin, you have to visit McGanns. read more

Best Fish N Chips in the country IMO. Make it your go to stop after spending time at the Cliffs of Moher or a round of golf near the village of Doolin. You order drinks directly from the bar and seat yourself down at a table. It is there... where your order will be taken. The bar itself is eclectic and has a great hometown pub feel. When done with your meal go back to the bar to pay the bill. My food order was at my table within 10 minutes and hot and crispy and oh so tasty using Cod for the fish. There was a dipping sauce for the fish like a homemade tartar, and it came with coleslaw as well. No space to waste with pea mash on this plate. The lads at the bar were friendly and fun to chat with while waiting for the Guinness to settle before taste or transport. read more

What more could one ask for in a local Irish bar? We walked in on a Monday night to a full house of happy upbeat locals and tourists. However, the best part was the 3-piece band in the corner playing Irish music. We didn't have to wait too long to be seated, and the staff was really accommodating. Kudos for having a daily vegetarian dish, which we thoroughly enjoyed (a mushroom and courgette tart). Something unique about this place is that they display patches from different police departments, fire departments, ambulance units, etc., from all over the world. So if you work in a field like that, bring McGann's a patch for them to put up in honor of your hard work and bravery! read more

Stopped in for a drink after visiting the cliffs and got sat right next to the fireplace which was awesome because it was overcast out and windy. Just had a few drinks before we left but the gin and tonics were refreshing and it was cozy and quaint and busy with other cliff goers. Really enjoyed our time at McGann's. read more

Stopped by this pub for lunch after visiting the Cliffs of Moher. It's a small place for our large group so it was quite cramped inside but the staff was very efficient in getting our orders in and out. I had the fish and chips and honestly it was the best fish and chips I ever had! It looks super oily because it's fried but when I bit into it, it was nice and crunchy, not soggy at all. The people working there are very nice and quite entertaining. As a tourist I enjoyed hearing the term, "my love" when addressing folks or getting their orders. It's widely used throughout the country. I think this pub is a gem in the area. Good food and drinks with good company makes it extra special. read more

As part of the Galway Company tour to the Cliffs of Moher, we enjoyed a sponsored stopover at the pub. With a limited menu and a business built on the tour bus industry from Galway, we feared that we were entering a tourist trap but the food was fairly priced and the quality was great. We enjoyed the soup of the day (potato leek) with brown bread and fish stew with brown bread. Both were hearty and delicious after a wet morning. If not for the state of the toilets (backed up), we'd give this a 5-star for a lunch stopover even without being on a bus. read more

Nice little pub. I went there during the day for lunch, but according to Lonely Planet they get really crowded at night and have some fantastic live traditional Irish music. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. It was slightly overcooked (I had ordered medium rare) but still tasted really good. The bacon that came with it was delicious, but the cheese was a little sharper than I'm used to back in America, I think. Good Irish Stew! Nothing spectacular or too memorable, but a bit above the average pub food quality. The bread served with it was somewhat stale though. It was a very authentic Irish pub experience with drinks and stew. I've had slightly better stew in Dublin, but this was still good. It's very busy and not very organized as far as seating. it's a Pub with great food. Be prepared to wait a long time of a table if there is more then 2 of you. The hostess offered us a very tiny table in which I was very ddisappointed with. but did redeem herself when she transferred us to a proper table once one opened. the pull pork sandwich was great and just the right size. The have great irish music which I belhave starts after 9ish. read more

We went to two different pubs during our time in Doolin and this one was our favorite. They both had great atmosphere and live music, but the food here was awesome! My husband got this lamb shank- the meat was so tender and falling off the bone. I had a tart (quiche) with goat cheese and tons of caramelized onions! Even just the chips it came with were great! What a find! Family run, good food with generous portions at a reasonable price, then a lively session at 9ish. The mussels with garlic butter cream are so good you will be dreaming about them. The lamb shank is a seriously big hunk of meat; tender and flavorful, served with a heap of mashed and a side of veg. Writing to update my review from last year, based mostly on the food. This is the best family-run, local food in Doolin. The menu is interesting and full of more formal meals such as roast duck, lamb shank, pasta dishes. You can have a pub meal of fish and chips (thoroughly impressive) or a small salad such as the calamari for only €7.95 (delicious, fresh, filling). The interior is indeed cramped, but the bar runs this place with wonderful efficiency. You won't have to wait too long for a pint or your food and you just pay and order at the bar and tell them your table number. Similar to other Doolin pubs, the traditional music is stellar. I quite enjoyed the outdoor tables and seating here. More locals than the other pubs too. Highly recommend. read more

So Doolin has a few pubs and McGann's was one of the closest ones to our B&B so we gave it a try after dinner. I sat at the bar area and got us some drinks. My parents were kind of being difficult so we weren't really the most excited of people but it soon improved once we had some drinks. Live music is played here every night, but we were there early and it was just a regular pub. I kind of prefer it that way. The problem was that after that first drink, the bartender wouldn't even look at us or serve us. Not sure what exactly we did but whatevvvvvers, we just got up and left to go to the pub across the way. This place does get packed out when the music is going and it is difficult to get a spot so my suggestion would be to get there early and get a table if you want to see/hear the band. Honestly though, I preferred the other two pubs much more. read more

This place was recommended by our local B&B owner as we were visiting on Thanksgiving. We're glad we listened as they served a full Thanksgiving meal so it was like my family was still in the US.
