3.5 stars is perfect for this hotel. The lively town of Doolin has a shortage of hotels, in keeping with its West Coast charm -- the majority of lodging here is cottage rentals and bed & breakfasts. Prior to this trip, I'd stayed at both a hostel and a B&B in Doolin, so I thought that checking out this hotel was on the cards.
The hotel is modern and newish, but still needs some more updating. The carpet in the rooms was very worn and the furniture definitely evidenced some wear-and-tear (torn pleather chaise in the room). The bathroom was nice enough with Voya products (love love this Seaweed-based bath and body company out of Sligo), but the water pressure was a bit lacking. The bed was on the uncomfortable side as well. Despite these quibbles, the BREAKFAST served every morning was excellent, as was the service. You get your choice of the full continental buffet (croissants, scones, fruit, cheese, cured meats, cold cereal), as well as the choice of a hot item - anything from the full Irish, to poached eggs on toast, to eggs Benedict or eggs & salmon. In addition to the spectacular breakfasts, you cannot beat the location of the hotel. It's right in-between McGann's/McDermotts and Gus O'Connor's/Fisherstreet, as well as connected directly to the tourist office (book your Aran Island trips here) and Fitzpatrick's Bar, which I have reviewed separately. For the convenience and service, I would give this place a 4. With a little updating, I would give the hotel itself a 4 as well. I enjoyed it. The value for money is not bad, but I do think that if choose the right B&B, it might be a more meaningful and value-based choice for accommodation in Doolin. read more
