    Pub's environment

The environment is amazing. The live music is great. People are friendly. That is the summary of my experience visiting o'connor's famous pub. I highly recommend the espresso martini cocktail. The working hours is very limited so you should plan ahead.

    Great pint!

Ok so I'm not a great fan of tourist attractions generally, when I go somewhere I like to enjoy the local side of things to get a genuine experience. O'Connor's is a genuine mix of both a traditional Irish pub with a great flair to entice the tourists. You walk in the door and are greeted by an absolute visual overload of knick-knacks and memorabilia hanging and covering EVERY surface except the tables and bar. The place is also massive. There was a live trio of traditional performers playing in one corner and the warm glowing coals of the fire opposite the bar. The place was absolutely packed and the craic was mighty. We ordered a couple of pints of Guinness (Which tasted amazing) and while I was at the bar I noticed their selection of local whiskey's. I'm a whiskey drinker and this looked like heaven. I resolved to order one after the pint. We sat for a bit and soaked up the epic atmosphere. After I finished my pint I went for a closer look at the whiskey's (For a wee night cap you know) and ordered a relatively new one called 'Writer's Tears' for any whiskey aficionados out there, I highly recommend this. Was one of the nicest I've tasted in a LONG time. (I'd like to point out here I'm half Scottish and half Irish so I've tasted my fill believe me) Overall this place is amazing, you could call in for a quick pint or spend the whole night here enjoying the buzz. A very well deserved 5*'s.

O'Connor's "famous" Pub in Salthill bills itself as the first singing pub in Ireland. The veracity of the "famous" tag and the claim to be Ireland's first singing pub is open to debate but it would probably easily win the title of the most decorated pub in Ireland. On entering O'Connors you will be astounded by the the number of articles hanging from every possible inch of space. Old Gaslights, farm implements, crockery, photos, weighing scales and a near life size statue of John Wayne (in The Quiet man) are scattered throughout the Pub. It is possible to get totally disorientated in here and you can start to wonder what year it is as you are transported to years gone by. Definitely a place to stop by for a drink (or two or three) if/when you are in Galway.

My Goodness indeed! Best pint of Guinness I've had yet in this great bar!

Well after a couple of pints of Guinness in various other pubs around the Galway bay area, I was taken to O'Connors famous pub in Salthill. This pub has mastered the mix of traditional and tourist. It's a feast for the eyes and for the Whiskey and Guinness drinkers, the palate. Great Guinness is served by the barrel load everyday here, so your pint is as fresh as a daisy. There's cool, funny, traditional stuff hanging from all the ceilings and walls that just keep everyone's eyes dancing from here to there looking at it all. They have regular live music acts on in here, the 3 piece I saw where excellent! I've been told the acts here are of a consistently high level as well. Keep it up guys, I will definately be visiting again before I return back home!

The inside is beautiful - like a converted greenhouse/cottage with stone walls and lots of natural light. One of the first things I noticed was the pastry counter. It was absolutely stunning with gorgeous cakes and other sweet treats available by the slice. The menu is written on a large chalkboard at the far end of the cafe, which can be hard to read depending on where you're seated. I asked for the staff's recommendation and she said I should try the fried fish. It came served with slaw, salad, brown soda bread, beautiful yellow butter and the most perfect fried pieces of cod I think I've ever had. This was not your typical "fish and chips" style fish but instead, was seasoned to perfection with a bit of a crunchier, thicker batter. Wow, it was incredible. I was also so grateful for the side of slaw and salad as I think that was the first leafy green I had had in over a week since arriving in Ireland. The latte I ordered was also delicious and well made. Staff was friendly and helpful throughout my visit - all working together to efficiently service the lunch rush. I would totally come back here next time I'm in Galway. It is highly recommended for good reason so go see for yourself!

O'Connell's Bar, which has been famous for years in its own right, rose to international prominence thanks to ole Ed Sheeran's "Galway Girl". It was pretty cool to see the spot where the video was filmed and it only added to the allure and story of the place! When you walk in off the street, you may just think it is a small cozy Irish pub and for the most part, you would be correct. However, go through the doors in the back and you are transported to a large, open-air beer garden featuring store fronts, stages, booths, heaters and more! While the inside is classic and uniquely Irish, the outdoor space is its own vibe! It honestly feels like two different spaces, but they also feel connected. All in all, easily the best beer garden in Galway! We grabbed a few pints at the inside bar and spent most of our time outside. It was a tad chilly, but they have self-controlled and regulated heaters over several of the seating alcoves, so we were comfortable an ended up hanging around for a few pints. Location is stellar, directly on Eyre Square, which is a main hub for Galway. Easy to wander in while walking around or popping off a bus, as the main bus stop of the area is directly across the street. Overall, we absolutely loved our time at O'Connell's Bar!

Whether you want to watch a match on the tele or converse with your friends, you can do either here. I recommend the beer garden even if it's cold, because it's open air with plenty of heaters even my mother approved the temperature. And they have a nice bar out there with plenty of seating or standing room. Don't forget to grab a few slices of pizza down the alley from the beer garden. Cheers!
