When the wife daughter and I was in Galway Ireland. We ended up going to Oslo twice the first time we sat outside, drank beer and had their amazing chicken wings. They were really good. The second time we went inside. It was a typical Irish pub feel and upstairs. they had a spirit tasting room which the little gal was very nice and polite. she knew her Irish whiskeys so we bought a bottle. we went back downstairs. Ordered the fish and chips and my daughter had their nachos. The fish and chips was pretty good not the best I've ever had, but not the worst. my daughter's nachos would have been good, but the chips were very stale. I will say the service was excellent and the beer very tasty. I would go back again and maybe just have the chicken wings and beer. read more

This location happens to offer food, their signature excellent draft list an oversized sports viewing room and projection that happened to be showing NFL highlights when we arrived!! The Fisherman's Pie was spot on with small salad on the side!! One of Galway Bay Breweries restaurants that we happened upon. The staff was friendly, very attentive and informative. The GBB beers we tried were all delicious and the Irish Stew was the best we ate while in Galway! Lots of tables inside and out and bar seating available. Very spacious and chill place to drop in for a pint if you are strolling along the Salthill Promenade. They have 27 - yes, count them, *27* varieties of beer on tap to try from. Beers rotate in and out like most microbreweries, but they always have a good selection of brews from Galway Bay Brewing Company (they had 10 on the day I visited). I was told that even though the beer isn't brewed here, they are owned by Galway Brewing. They have everything from stouts, IPAs, malty red ales, lagers, cider, dunkels, weisse, helles, and even a sour that I saw on tap. If you can't find a beer you like here, you need to move away from the keg and start drinking wine my friend. The selection is THAT awesome here! I didn't eat here, but their food menu sure looked tasty - a notch above your typical bar food. After all, this is billed as a gastro pub. They have pool tables, and foosball tables in the back, with a large projector screen for watching the sports games. PLENTY of seating in the back area near the TV and pool tables. Even an outdoor patio. I would recommend this as your first stop on the Salthill Promenade. read more

Nice friendly pub which is the flagship of the Galway Bay Brewery. I got a lot of help choosing a flight of stouts and porters with the genius touch of a (sour) black berlinerweisse, made from the same malts and suggested as a useful palate cleanser - and it absolutely made me appreciate the other beers so much more. The GBB milk stout and smoky porter are both excellent in my opinion, although served colder than I'm used to. This is a great place to head to after a walk along the seafront from Galway to Salthill and not only does it have the full GBB range but also many great guest ales from other Irish breweries. I doubt it's a destination restaurant (I didn't eat) but it's nice to have a food option in a good pub where the ales are still top priority. read more

By far this was our favorite place in Galway! The staff was completely outstanding. We only stopped by to get a drink and ended up getting a couple of drinks and ordered food. The Bartender and the Manager gave us directions of what to do in Dublin. It was trivia night and the bar got crushed with orders. It was amazing to see how they handled the business and had fun while entertaining the customers. They completely represented the soul of Ireland. The Oslo is a brewpub located in Upper Salthill. The brewery itself goes by the name Bay Brewery. Up front is an eclectic mix of furniture and an open fire. The bar is in the middle section and in the back is where most of the space is located as well as a huge screen. Tuesday nights are movie nights where the screen is used to good effect and there are weekly open mic nights. There is a staggering number of beer from Irish and world Microbreweries along with their own house beers of which there are currently two. An ale and a lager (surprisingly tasty for a lager). A massive bottle selection is also available. Wine lovers are not forgotten either. There is also food available which is quite frankly delicious and worth going to even if you are not drinking. The whole place is clean and very well run. The only downside is that they do not serve lunch till 1pm so if you go in there at 12:30 you will only be offered breakfast. The name "Oslo" comes from the fact that it is the former site of The Oslo hotel and nothing to do with Norway. They celebrated their first birthday on Friday the 13th of August 2010 and had a ghoulish Halloween style party to celebrate. A visit to Galway is not complete without a visit to this place. I did not know this going but the pub is owned by Galway Bay Brewery. Many great beers on tap (I enjoyed their lager). Food was excellent, one of the top seafood chowders I've ever tried. Wings were flavorful (the "small" portion is like 10 wings). Chips were crisp and fresh. They have billiards and play rugby on the multiple televisions. Must try if you're in Galway. read more

I had an amber that was pretty good and was a little on the hoppy side compared to most other Irish beers. For food I had a pulled pork sandwich. It was pretty tasty. That's the place where you should go after a long walk from Galway City centre to Salthill. Not really a place to sit outside as the area on the street is tiny and not very inviting also. But inside isn't a quite nice, traditional and definitely spacious! A huge pub with a large screen to see soccer, rugby or hurling matches.. The beer is the most important thing in this place. What a great pub. Great atmosphere to the place and the bartender was extra helpful taking his time to pour the beers and bringing them to our table instead of us waiting at the bar. The menu was really interesting. We shared some Quesadillas, Lentil Dahl and thick chips. It was top notch as were their selection of beers beyond ones that we ordered. I already knew at this stage that their own beers are great having had them elsewhere (pub is owned by the Galway Bay Brewery) so I had Trouble Brewing Oh Yeah American Black Ale which also did not disappoint! Large area at the back with a big screen where they can show a film. I love that this pub is so different to the Salt House but that they are both so awesome. We are visiting from the states and happy to find a brewery with craft beers. We enjoyed both the brew and food. Full lineup of beers are all solid, these would sell in the states. IPA, rotating experimental tap, porter and stouts all top-notch. Good selection of guest drafts, too. As their slogan reads: "No Crap on Tap" and they live up to it. Met up with some friends here while on holiday. It was perfect. Great atmosphere for a casual dinner with friends. I loved their Full Sail IPA. (And the samples of the various local brews my friends had- including a delightful cider). My fish and chips were the best I've had...ever. The Oslo is a really cute restaurant/pub in Salthill just minutes from downtown Galway. Our B&B proprietor recommended it to us and he wasn't wrong. We were most nervous about eating in Galway since I didn't see a lot of vegetarian restaurants online. I had the lentil burger with fries. It had a nice touch of spice but was a bit dry and kept falling apart. There wasn't enough of the condiment, but they brought me some pickled relish and it helped a lot. I also tried the house ale- really yummy! My sister ate the Plowman's sandwich, which we were surprised to hear was vegetarian! Yummy cheddar cheese on foccacia. The atmostphere is relaxed and laid back, but once we got our food we never saw our waitress again. I would have liked another beer, not had to chase her down. Overall, I would probably come back. Absolutely love this bar. I made friends my first day in Galway just hanging around The Oslo for a couple of hours. Alan is a hero and a local legend around Salt Hill, and for good reason. The man truly treats all of his guests like old friends. If you ask him nicely (or not particularly nicely at all) he'll probably take you out for a pint and a whisky around the corner after he's off. Ate dinner here after walking down the salt hill promenade. The chowder is AMAZING, huge chunks of salmon and white fish with chunks of bacon. The menu description doesn't do it justice, so good! My boyfriend got the fish and chips and it was really good as well. They also have a great selection of craft beers and do flights. We walked into Oslo at noon and left at 4! What a great spot for craft beer! The Galway Bay brewery owns this establishment. From the moment we walked in we felt at home. Alan and his staff provided superior service. Food was great and the beers are excellent. We truly enjoyed having local quality craft beer. The staff knows nothing about beer and also has no minute to minute recall-can only remember one beer at a time. Shall I also mention that she doesn't seem to know how to pour. The Oslo in Salthill boasts a chilled atmosphere of extraordinate proportions which means its the perfect spot to catch a craft pint on a fine west coast summers days. The mismatched furniture and quirky signs on the walls add that air of kitsch. Their fine collection of different Jenga board games makes it feel as though your spending time in a friends gaf while you sip on a brew. The staff here are super friendly and helpful plus it helps the place brews it's own beer. The only pitfall to this amazing spot is it's chowders inability to ever cool down. Out of 10 of us that were there that day, 7 of us ordered the chowder and it didn't go below roasting hot through the course of an hour which made it impossible to eat. The other food on the lunch menu looked appetizing so next time I'm down I'll explore the other menu options. All in all a great spot for drinks on a sunny day! read more

We visited the Oslo early Saturday evening before 9. Lots of other families were there obviously to eat. Nice big open seating arrangements. It was almost full but wasnt noisy. Children and adult only tables were enjoying playing the board games supplied by the pub. We were not very adventurous in our menu selection and just went for different burgers and chips. This place has excellent food and great service. I had a wonderful cheese platter with three different Irish cheeses and a delicious cauliflower and blue cheese soup with brown bread. My husband loved his beef stew and craft beer. I'm taking away a star, however, for the fact that their menu doesn't identify allergens. My kids ordered the berry crumble which turned out to have hazelnuts in it--a delicious but unusual addition to a crumble. My son is deathly allergic to nuts so we had to inject him with epinephrine as soon as I tasted the crumble. Hopefully they can get the menus properly labelled. It might look attractive on the menu, but this place is the most unattractive and mismanaged business ever. I have seen clients being given out to for no reason, staff being rude to customers and the manager has such unprofessionalism that he should not be allowed to deal with the public. The atmosphere is tensed and you feel you bother the staff by your presence. I was invited to a private party twice there: once the staff had made a mistake and there was another booking on the same night (our party was cancelled). The second time they had forgotten the booking altogether and started giving out to our organiser!!! In times of crisis, when people should come back to values such as respect, generosity and friendliness, the manager and staff of this place definitely get a big "no no". Just back from Galway and paid a visit to this pub. I will not be back. The service was terrible. We waited ages to get served at the bar. We were left standing there and ignored by barstaff. Eventually got a drink. Then I ordered and paid for another round of drinks and took one drink with me and sat down. I presumed my Guinness would be dropped down to my table when it was ready - table was right beside the bar....but no ...it was left on the bar and the barman didn't even tell me it was there.
