They also have a lunch menu too, but I was focused on trying their chicken fried steak breakfast bc everywhere else has the deep fried hockey puck version. Garden Cafe's version was freshly breaded (I think, the flaky coating reminded me of panko - katsu vibes). I asked for the gravy on the side, so I could the breaded cube steak crunchy. The eggs and potatoes were also delicious. Marble rye toast was also an unexpected treat. Hubby's smash burger was good too.

It's a good stopping point as there's not many other towns out here on the 80 with better food choices. Battle Mountain has great gas prices, but not as much for food. We're seated just fine and just water to drink at this point in the day with a lot of driving ahead. I got the chicken fried steak and my friend got an omelet served with hashbrowns. Two coffees as well, were kept refilled just fine. All the food was good, normal coffee shop quality. Service was friendly as well, I'd stop here again passing thru on the 80.

My hashbrowns were properly cooked but not very tasty. They tasted a little old. My husband really liked his Sid's omelette. Since he eats Keto, he let me have his toast and he had sour cream on his omelette. He was very happy with his meal. Service was delightful. The restaurant was very clean, including the bathrooms. The staff was attentive and pleasant. I noticed a lot of the other patrons know each other from around town. It was Mother's Day and people were bringing their daughters, mothers, and grandmothers in for a meal. Overall, this place has a cheerful, bustling atmosphere.

The pasta had an ample amount of the veggies in a rich sauce the wasn't overly seasoned. We really enjoyed the Parmesan sourdough on the sandwich and felt like there was a good amount of condiments. The interior is roomy with ample seating. Service was always very friendly, albeit a little on the slow side. A few of our orders were filled incorrectly or extra requests for sauces forgotten. Our fries came out completely unseasoned, so make sure to ask for what you want to dip them in!

Come hungry they serve multiple, delicious courses that are pre set and then you choose whatever entree you would like to have. Dinner is shared traditional style with other customers, but I prefer a nice entree lunch sitting at the bar. The main bartender, Candace, always takes good care of my friends and I! The food was incredible...I had to stop here twice during my two week visit! The lamb shank was enormous, tender, flavorful, and perfectly paired with mint sauce. The Frenchie's Lamb Dip was juicy pieces of their famous lamb on top of buttery toast. The Santa Rosa steak sandwich was an entire steak dinner between two slices of the same buttery toast, cooked just right, juicy, and flavorful. I also was obsessed with their clam chowder, which was creamy and hearty. Their hominy appetizer is also amazing and perfect with the "fairy-dust" seasoning at table side! Of course, no Basque meal is complete without a Picon punch, a traditional Basque drink that is otherwise very hard to come by. Picon bitters are only found in certain areas and is under a lot of legal protection. The drink is a mix of Torani Amer, grenadine, and brandy that's both sweet and bitter. This will forever be a staple stop whenever coming through Winnemucca and worth it every time!

I ordered the Surf and Turf which consisted of Carne Asada, Deep fried shrimp, rice & beans, and my choice of tortillas. I really enjoyed my meal. It was Fantastic!! My Daughter ordered Birria Tacos. She's recently discovered how good birria is. She has, for the longest time, only orders Chicken Quesadilla. I am talking many years. It was nice to see she has expanded her palate. Her mom is a big enchilada fan and that is what she ordered. One cheese and one chicken with rice and beans. I usually fly solo going to Idaho and always stop at this restaurant as my half way there spot. It was their first time going. We also had some tasty margaritas!! And a Michelada. The food was very good. Everyone really enjoyed it. Our waitress was awesome and very friendly. 5*

We can always count on its friendly service, reliable Mexican-American food and warm atmosphere. Today I had to make the drive solo for a family emergency and it was a very comforting place to be eating by myself in a somewhat sombre moment. As far as food goes, I often order the chicken flautas or the ground beef chimichanga, which is a filling portion size without making you feel like overeating. Today I tried the shredded beef enchiladas, which were recommended by the server. Both the red and green enchilada sauce were great and the beef was very flavorful. Thank you, Chihuahua's, for always making out of towners feel welcome!
