Whenever I travel I am always on the hunt for delicious spicy chai. My travels landed me in…read moreSouthern Pines for a few days and the first coffee shop I stumbled into was the Pine Scone Cafe. This is a cute little shop situated inside Elliot's Provisions. While the scones looked amazing, I was on a mission for chai. The friendly barista informed me they have a few choices: a powdered chai (hard pass) and two choices of chai concentrate- sweet or spicy. The concentrate brand was, "Sanctuary Chai" which I've never tried, and the blend was "Spicy Honey Chai" so I figured it'd have that honey-sweet tang and hopefully a good hit of spice. I was correct on the honey-sweetness, but the spice level was on the lower end of the spiciness scale. Maybe it needed to be shook before being mixed, the milk:chai ratio was off, or it's just not that spicy. All-in-all, a passable chai but not really memorable nor craveable. The shop is cozy-cute, the staff are fast, friendly, and welcoming, but the chai is just meh. I regret not ordering a scone.

The shop offers a plethora of interesting flavors, but seeing as I had a lot of food to try while visiting the area, I kept it to one. Peanut butter is a relatively unique flavor and one of my favorites from other doughnut shops that I've visited. I thought the texture of this yeast doughnut was exemplary as it was airy with a nice amount of chewiness. The dough itself had a nice buttery flavor, but I know what you all care about is that peanut butter frosting. That's where things begin to go a bit south as the peanut butter frosting was good, but just too mild of a flavor. A suggestion I have based on some of the best doughnut shops in the country that I've encountered would be filling the doughnut with a peanut butter frosting. That would definitely take this doughnut to the next level. It was still a nice dessert to have with my breakfast and for the price wasn't bad. Comparing it to some of the other peanut butter doughnuts I've consumed though, this one is just okay. Doughboy_Food_Reviews

The decor…read moreis eclectic (I dined under a large, colorful Dr. Seuss print) with fairly closely-spaced tables that keep the room buzzing. There's an upscale bar in the entry that had several seats open even when the tables were all full. I started with the crab hush puppies. What's not to like about fried dough after all, but I didn't really get much crab flavor out of them. The buttermilk and corn preparation came through more. The entree was a showstopper, though - grilled elk chops with a pomegranate glaze and country mashed potatoes. They were scrumptious, and the al dente vegetables cooked in with the potatoes gave them a nice toothsomeness. One of the best entrees I've had in quite some time. It's nice when a menu gives you a protein choice you don't see everywhere. Parking is fine, with a paved lot in front and spaces on either side of the adjacent street. Service was welcoming and efficient.

If I could give zero stars that would not be bad enough. This pharmacy deserves negative 10 stars…read more My reasons: 1. They hold most medicines, neglecting to fill them until the patient calls in to confirm they want it. In what universe does this make sense??? If my doctor ordered a monthly medication, yes! i want it every month, you cheap bast*rds. 2. Wait times on the phone average 25 minutes (in the middle of the day on a weekday) and 15 of those minutes is telling you you are behind one person in the queue and really it means they just forgot you are waiting for them on hold, so you have to hang up and start the whole process again. 3. When you call it takes a minimum of 7 minutes just to reach a human (from corporate who will then put you back on hold for at least another 20 minutes with the Ivey Ln. store) thanks to their corporate automated system (and during that time they force you to sit through ads for flu shots). 3. I have witnessed, in-person, that the pharmacy techs at this location (who should be answering new, incoming phone calls) instead cold-calling random customers to notify them that flu shots are available in the middle of the summer rather than answering the phone for people who need actual medicine right now. 4. The pharmacy techs offer a voicemail to leave a message for the pharmacist and once you reach their voicemail there is another automated message that tells you there's a system failure and voicemails can't be recorded at this time = absolutely no way to speak with a pharmacist unless you get in the car, waste gas money and time, to drive to tell the pharmacist in person who will then make you sit at the pharmacy and wait another 45 minutes to fill the prescription you would have liked to confirm filling over the phone. This is EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL of customers time. 5. To add insult to injury, I have never had a prescription be in stock and on time EVER usually there they're out of stock and I have to wait several days Just to get it filled. 6. So I called to get an estimate of how long that would be and they provide vague answers like "in a little while" "not too long" or "the manufacturer won't tell us." And the pharmacy techs act put out and surprised when you express anything but pleasure over the rude, careless, and disrespectful ways they run their business. 6. When I notified them that I had been put on hold three separate times (for a total of 55 minutes waiting on hold) and that I would like to not be put on hold again (and literally forgotten) they put me through to customer service who explained to me (like I was a simpleton) exactly what the pharmacy techs had already told me twice. This is a remote area but that is NO EXCUSE for what an awful business this Walgreens is. Go somewhere else. Drive 50 miles.
