Outside of Dixie Burger.
Nate H.

Dixie Burger is a good place to stop in for an affordable meal if you happen to be in downtown Ellerbe. If you ask anyone from around Ellerbe where to grab dinner, there are really only three options: Dixie Burger, Denise's Diner, and Mama Nois. Your options are kind of limited, but with that being said, Dixie Burger is worth a stop. I ordered the Deluxe Cheeseburger all the way (coleslaw, onions, chili, and mustard) and then I also got an order of chili cheese fries on the side. The burger itself was very good. The bun was definitely buttered up and the meat was tender. The chili was a little above average and mixed well with the very sweet slaw that accompanied it. The fries were a different story. They were very soggy and there was only so much that the good chili could do to mask the lack of flavor. At Dixie Burger you order up at the cash register and they bring you your food out to the table. The biggest plus at Dixie Burger, in my opinion, is the service and the staff working there. Everyone was very friendly and the food came out quickly and with a smile. We got in there on a Friday at a little after 7:30 and they close at 8:00. Some restaurant workers/owners give you the stank eye when you walk in that close to closing time. This was not the case at Dixie Burger. We specifically asked when they closed and they informed us that it was 8:00 but that we had plenty of time and that there was no rush. You've got to love the speed of small town NC. The place itself was clean, but the bathrooms which were located outside of the building could have used a scrub. This is a very small burger joint with just a handful of tables, but they set it up so that it didn't seem cramped. Also, at some of these places clouds of grease smoke fill the air, but Dixie Burger did a good job of circulating that elsewhere. With a place with Dixie in the name, you hope for some good Sweet Tea, but unfortunately there was only generic tea from a dispenser (Lipton I believe). May as well skip it and get a coke. The small town atmosphere of this burger joint and the friendly service coupled with the solid burger make this place worth trying if you are in downtown Ellerbe.

Nice place to stop for a quick bite. You have to get a key for the bathrooms which are on the side of the building, which doesn't strike anyone's fancy. They were decently clean...but I changed my baby in the car. The hot dog I had was DE-LICIOUS. My husband had a burger and said it was way better than fast food chain burger.

The crab platter was delicious! The customer service was great too! I ate all of my food in like twenty minutes.

Cheeseburger was excellent, and the steak wrap was great too, served warm like a panini. Kind, helpful, prompt service.

Asked for my crinkle fries to be extra crispy and they were perfectly cooked to go along with the soft bun burger.

The best handmade , not frozen , burgers in North Carolina. I was visiting my sister and niece in…read moreLaurinburg for a week in March and wanted a good local burger. I read the great reviews of this place online , so I had to come see for myself. It's a small brick building on the side of Andrew Jackson Hwy in Laurel Hill. Small parking lot with plenty of business. They have a small indoor dining area that is a bar top facing the windows. A couple of picnic tables outside , which is where I ate mine. I got the Double Cheeseburger with Crinkle Cut Fries and a can of Pepsi. The burger patties were nice and thick and juicy. Hot and fresh tasting with lettuce and tomato. If you want a Traditional North Carolina Slaw Burger they can do that too. The Crinkle Cut Fries were hot , fresh , and tasty. I prefer Crinkle Cut or Steak Cut Fries , so this was a plus. The employees were also nice. They have so much other food to choose from. Bbq Pork Sandwiches , Burgers , Hot Dogs , Sausage Dogs , Corn Dogs , Fried Bologna Sandwich , Pimento Cheese Sandwich , Chicken Wings , Hamburger Steak Plate , Chicken Salad , Chicken Sandwich , Fried Okra , Fries , Onion Rings , Baked Beans , Green Beans , Slaw , and Mashed Potatoes , and more. So don't pass by this place on the way to the beach or elsewhere. Make sure to stop and get you some good ole Carolina Food made with Love.

Slinging burgers in a tiny place like Siler City since the 1940s?! Well you gotta be doing…read moresomething right to achieve community institution status like that, and I finally had the good fortune to be in the area of this spot during their limited hours... so I had to stop in. Johnson's doesn't look like it has changed much since it first came to be. Fairly tiny on the inside, and showing a lot of wear on the outside, it's got the look and charm of a place that has spanned over 75 years of service. That said even though it is dated, the inside looked nice and clean to me. There is lunch counter seating, that if you are a tall individual, might be a tight fit for you, but the booths aren't going to be any better. So after jamming my knee into the wall under the counter, I achieved a fine degree of man-spread, and was reasonably OK after that. From my seat at the counter, I had a perfect view of their process and burgers sizzling on the flat-top grill. Each burger hits the hot top with a sizzle, is smashed down (but not quite to smashburger thin-ness), gets flipped, is adorned with a thick chunk of Velveeta cheese, and gets half a bun on top to let it steam up real good. The other half the bun is to the left, where a dedicated person is assembling all the toppings. When ready, they put the halves together, wrap it up, and send it your way. Fast and efficient, but all patties are 100% cooked to order. I also got a hot dog all the way, order of fries, and a fully sweet tea as they were out of unsweet. They were also out of pickles, and don't do grilled onions, negatives for me because I like my first try to be simple. grilled onions, pickles, burger sauce if available. They also charge extra for lettuce and tomato. I just went ahead and had my burger made the same way as my hot dog, all the way. It made for one hell of a mess, but it was delicious. I definitely enjoyed my meal, but to be honest, neither the burger or the hot dog would rank in my top 5 in the state. Doesn't really matter, as at the end of the day, I would certainly come back here because I am sure it's the best burger in the area, and given the amount of burgers and hot dogs I have eaten being "outside the top 5" doesn't mean you're doing poorly. Cash only, so come prepared, but definitely come!

I was surprised how busy it was at 10:30am and all the to go orders they were getting. I was warmly greeted when I arrived and told I could sit anywhere I wanted. I sat at the bar as I didn't want to take up a booth. Then I could watch the action. I could tell that regulars frequent the burger shop as they knew most people by name and what they ordered. The owner passed away a few weeks ago. I could sense something happened from some of the conversations with the regulars. He left a legacy that his parents started with the simple menu and the quality beef. My cheeseburger was served hot with the toppings I ordered and that melted cheese. The fries were also piping hot like I enjoy them and more like steak fries. I will need another excuse to head back this way for another burger.

This was day (2) of my east-coast road trip (Florida to New Jersey) and the one thing I wanted do…read moreto is to stop at road side food shacks when ever possible...day (1) drive did not produce any, but on this day, yes. I had just left a muscle car museum out side of Myrtle Beach, which I was a bit disappointing, and was making some distance from and heading to Rocky Mount. It wasn't long till Siri got me on some back roads which I wanted to take, keeping clear of major highways and chain food places. Nothing but mom-pop food stands for me and Fritz (my car). Rolling down route 410 (Green Sea Road) I starting to get hungry and looked over and saw a sign for Burger Ranch. I drove past for some reason and told my self to turn around, and glad I did. Pulled into the parking lot which only had one car parked. Once I stepped inside I knew this was a bona fide burger joint. There was only one person working the place and she had it going on. Did not know there were call-in orders being handled till it started to arrive. I ordered just your basic cheese burger, fries and a root-beer. When the sweet lady brought my food to me I could see this was your standard burger, not something you can't fit in your mouth. I had lettuce on mine and she was good enough to put it on the bottom as to not make the bun weak. And the fries where as tasty as they look. I thanked god I turned around and stopped, it was a pick-me-up from the car museum I had just visited. One last thing, get in your car drive and yourself an epic food shack to share. I so recommend this place. Follow me to my next shack. Peace.
