The food here is great! We were traveling across the Midwest and decided to stop here for lunch! I definitely would describe this as one of those "hole in the wall" must try's if you're passing through. The ambiance is lackluster, I'll be real, it's a lil bit worn down. But sometimes that's how you know you're about to have the best burger of your life. The service was great, they're super friendly and you can tell they're proud of what they're serving, and they should be! It had been awhile since we stop at this little burger joint in downtown Ellerbe, but we stopped in recently, and were not disappointed. Before the Hwy 74 ByPass went in, we'd come by this place each time went traveled down toward the Rockinghan/Hamlet/SC area., but now you have to come in several miles from the highway to get here - but worth the trip for a good burger and hot dog. Both are very, very good. Place gets kinda crazy at peak times, especially on Fridays when they run some great vaule specials. Not much to look at, but that's part of the charm of local places like this. Forget the FF, simply horrid ridges of distaste. read more

Dixie Burger is a good place to stop in for an affordable meal if you happen to be in downtown Ellerbe. If you ask anyone from around Ellerbe where to grab dinner, there are really only three options: Dixie Burger, Denise's Diner, and Mama Nois. Your options are kind of limited, but with that being said, Dixie Burger is worth a stop. I ordered the Deluxe Cheeseburger all the way (coleslaw, onions, chili, and mustard) and then I also got an order of chili cheese fries on the side. The burger itself was very good. The bun was definitely buttered up and the meat was tender. The chili was a little above average and mixed well with the very sweet slaw that accompanied it. The fries were a different story. They were very soggy and there was only so much that the good chili could do to mask the lack of flavor. At Dixie Burger you order up at the cash register and they bring you your food out to the table. The biggest plus at Dixie Burger, in my opinion, is the service and the staff working there. Everyone was very friendly and the food came out quickly and with a smile. We got in there on a Friday at a little after 7:30 and they close at 8:00. Some restaurant workers/owners give you the stank eye when you walk in that close to closing time. This was not the case at Dixie Burger. We specifically asked when they closed and they informed us that it was 8:00 but that we had plenty of time and that there was no rush. You've got to love the speed of small town NC. The place itself was clean, but the bathrooms which were located outside of the building could have used a scrub. This is a very small burger joint with just a handful of tables, but they set it up so that it didn't seem cramped. Also, at some of these places clouds of grease smoke fill the air, but Dixie Burger did a good job of circulating that elsewhere. With a place with Dixie in the name, you hope for some good Sweet Tea, but unfortunately there was only generic tea from a dispenser (Lipton I believe). May as well skip it and get a coke. The small town atmosphere of this burger joint and the friendly service coupled with the solid burger make this place worth trying if you are in downtown Ellerbe. read more

Nice place to stop for a quick bite. You have to get a key for the bathrooms which are on the side of the building, which doesn't strike anyone's fancy. They were decently clean...but I changed my baby in the car. The hot dog I had was DE-LICIOUS. My husband had a burger and said it was way better than fast food chain burger. read more

Made my first visit to Dixie Burger on a Saturday morning timing my arrival to miss the breakfast rush and enjoy an early lunch. I was greeted warmly by a lady who later introduced herself as the owner. I ordered the cheeseburger so I could add another NC burger joint find to my blog list. "All the way" was as expected and included chili, mustard, onions and slaw. Asked for my crinkle fries to be extra crispy and they were perfectly cooked to go along with the soft bun burger. I noticed many locals who were all greeted by name. I enjoyed a lengthy talk with the owners after one of them said as I was leaving, "you're not from around here are you?". Awesome little place we found by accident. My husband and I were coming back from a road trip into South Carolina and he was "ready to eat his arm off". We both went with a burger since it was a "burger" joint and neither one of us was disappointed. The burgers were cooked to perfection and very juicy but not greasy. We split a side of onion rings and they were great, too (seemed to be homemade). The place was spotless and we could see the cook and see that he followed every health code rule perfectly.
