The view from the exit ramp.

This is a review of The McDonald's in Randolph, Vermont, right off the exit on 89. This is in no way a review for all of McDonald's or McDonald's food as a whole The Randolph, Vermont McDonald's is The GOAT of all McDonald's. What we say amongst ourselves here in Vermont is, "IYKYK." But now I'm here to tell ALL the rest of you too. Now everyone can know. It only just occurred to me to review this McDonald's online and the reason to review is because this McDonald's is just exceptional. So there is a McDonald's located in an extremely easy-on-easy-off location from 89 in Randolph, VT. It's kind of been carved into a very steep location, so the entry/exit and drive thru and parking lot have some specific rules for entry/exit and one way driving which requires you to pay attention (I'm talking to all you all From Away...get what I'm saying?? This isn't your mediocre McDonald's with super easy driving rules). Basic things about The Randolph McDonald's that sets them securely above/ahead of every other McDonald's I've been to in this country and abroad: EVERY person I've ever interacted with working at The Randolph McDonald's (for years now) has been, basically, awesome. Friendly, upbeat, happy, chatty and doing a great job. Clearly enjoying themselves at their jobs. Which is what we ALL should demand of our work!! My theory is that The Randolph McDonald's hires A LOT of teenagers. Well, I know, for a fact that they hire a lot of local teenagers. Teenagers are great workers/employees/ team members. As the owner/boss you must provide effective, empowering, NON TOXIC management to get the best of out of them. But, (SPOILER ALERT!!!) You need effective, empowering, NON TOXIC management in any workplace to get the best out of your team... Happy employees do a better job. The place is SPOTLESS. Including the bathrooms. I have never gotten my order wrong in any way. Which, if you've ever visited a McDonald's, you know is pretty extraordinary. I don't eat beef, pork or poultry. So my go to McDonald's meal is a Filet 'O Fish with fries and a water or a medium Coke if I feel like I need a hit of sugar and caffeine. However! I never want the cheese that comes on a Filet 'O Fish and, until very recently, I never wanted the Tartare Sauce either. Honestly, it's probably easier to get the Filet 'O Fish entirely "plain" than to get it with Tartare Sauce but no cheese. Whichever way I order it, they always get it right at the Randolph McDonald's . Always. Also?? It's always HOT and fresh and my bun is soft. And the fries! They are always also hot and fresh. I mention these things because it is not "the norm" at other McDonald's. At other McDonald's I order my Filet 'O Fish and then I just eat it the way it comes because it's really not worth it to go inside or circle back around and try to get it remade the way I wanted it. The Randolph, Vermont McDonald's is the only McDonald's I that has never messed my order up. Not once. Far be it for me to recommend any restaurant that is not an independent, chef owned spot. But I also happen to believe McDonald's is not competing with those of us who ARE independent, chef owned and I recommend The Randolph Vermont McDonald's. In a huge world of McDonald's The Randolph, VT McDonald's is The Best. Full Stop.

Worst and most unprofessional McDonald's I've ever been to. My quarter pounder was raw and cold in the middle.

We were greeted by Judith's 3 dogs, what a welcoming! They wanted their ball to be thrown. One of the last reviews stated they were generally there 10-4 on weekends so we took a chance, and I am glad we did. Judith shared their story, invited us to check out the production facility just over the ridge and even go see the goats a few miles away at the goat creamery / dairy. I have always been a fan of caramel, but had no idea you could take it to this level of flavor. We bought the 2oz jar sampler packs to return home to Pennsylvania. The salted bourbon and Vermont maple caramels were my favorite, my wife enjoyed the cold brew caramel and cinnamon. We plan to cut up some fresh apples when we get home to enjoy of new found heaven and remember just how nice Judith was and how she shared a piece of her life with us. Vermont is a beautiful place!

I've had these from non Vietnamese eateries before and they've been terrible, this one was quite exceptional and delicious. An authentic banh mi usually does not have pulled pork but this was a very nice and respectful tangy fresh twist to a favorite sandwich. Offered with pulled pork or tempeh, the crusty baguette, flavorful kimchi and sriracha mayo combined to create quite a tasty sandwich. Served with a small side of ruffled potato chips, it's about 5 dollars more than one would pay at a mom and pop spot in Seattle or SF, but it was as delicious. The Chicken Cesar salad hit the spot, with its warm, thinly chopped chicken. I think the crotons were homemade but I could be wrong. It wasn't out of this world (a zest of lemon and fresh parmesan would do wonders) but it was dressed lightly and was an abundant portion. This cafe has everything going for it and with a few easy upgrades, it could easy be a 5 star experience. Little touches, such as serving meals on real plates and bowls instead of disposals, upgraded bathrooms, rearranged tables, and a clearer and more efficient way to order (the chalk menu inside the entrance creates a bottleneck) would elevate Cafe Noa and make it a true destination for locals and visitors alike. Worth a return visit, for sure.

I love that they're socially conscious and really care about social justice and the environment. - They compost.* My pup discovered this after we emerged from a trail next to the back of the bakery. She found all this very scientifically interesting. - They serve in house with reusable metal utensils and plates, which you return to the counter. - They're committed to sourcing organic, sustainably produced flour from a few family-run farms. - Takeout containers (and I feel awful when having to use these at times) are waxed cardboard -- maybe professionally compostable or recyclable, but I suspect not. Still, better than plastic. Eat in if you can. Someday I'll remember to bring my own containers and see if they'll use them. The bread is world class. We've probably tried almost every loaf at this point. They tend towards being traditional styles with robust crusts and a good, slow, cold rise -- breads that take time to make. Our preferences lean towards the sourdoughs, the miche-type loaves, anything with olives, and the potato breads (for those of us with old teeth or missing baby teeth). But everything you could possibly order will be amazing. We loved the beautiful pain d'epi most recently, though the 10 year old (who doesn't have a full set of chompers right now) found it tough to consume without a good dip in Mom's stew at the end of the day. The only version my family cited as more beloved was from Maison Kayser -- yes, a chain, but a very good one where my kiddos literally cut their teeth. Pastries are shockingly good as well, particularly the laminated ones that someone must be getting up at 2 or 3 a.m. to prepare. Chocolate croissants and almond croissants are perfectly layered, generously filled with high quality chocolate (real chocolate, not Nutella!) or almond paste filling that is even good when cold. The "simplest" of pastries (not really at all simple for anyone's whose tried to make these), a plain croissant, will wow a purist. My kiddos love the perfectly frosted maple bun visit after visit. Savory pastries are often filled with beautifully caramelized / browned onions, cheese, and other ingredients depending on the whims of the chefs. Again, I don't think you can go wrong; we certainly never have. There are decent sandwiches and salads on the menu (from the perspective of the spoiled). Nothing is groundbreaking, but they're 200% competent and ingredients are consistently excellent. A recent Harvest Salad, for instance, included fresh and tender butter lettuce, winter squash roasted to tender perfection, nuts and dried fruit in perfect balance. We'd had about 10 different "harvest salads", in the past few weeks in VT at that point, but though this one was more simply designed than many, it was more delicious, given the impeccably fresh, high quality ingredients. We sometimes get here on the earlier side, but never seem able to score a breakfast sandwich, which seems to sell out fast. We like the down-to-earth staff, who smile when they mean it and don't when they don't -- and show fatigue when they need to and ought. I love that the management appears to be humane, opening later than usual when an ice storm makes driving conditions perilous. We recognize some staff members from some years past and we like the continuity a lot. Love the entire picture. All of it. * I just read that all VT households and businesses are required to compost per a state law passed in 2020. Cool! Red Hen seems to have a great sorting system set up, though, with many neat, well maintained bins lined up out back.

The only thing I think is a little bit of a bummer is the lack of more "traditional" topping options. I like my sandwiches with lettuce, tomato, and onion. The cafe does not offer tomatoes and only has pickled onions. Would be nice to have a little more choice when building your own sandwich. That said, I'm still a big fan and would get food from there again in a heartbeat.

I ordered the egg, cheese sandwich on a biscuit (because we always like to try the local restaraunt's biscuits) and I added their maple sausage. I wanted to get an almond croissant as well until I saw a fly in the pastry cabinet just have his way on all the pastries. NOPE!! This was probably one of the worse breakfast sandwiches I have ever had to date. The biscuit itself was hard as a rock, dry and crumbled upon touch. It was lousy as heck.
