McDonald's is usually a mixed bag for me...especially here. The drive-thru is often slow, the ice cream machine seems to be out of service more than it should be, and there are those dreaded moments when they ask you to pull into a reserved spot because your order is going to take a while. Based on past visits, this would normally be closer to a two star experience for me. This most recent visit was better. We came shortly before 8 pm for late-night snacks - fries, nuggets, a milkshake, and an apple pie. The drive-thru moved at a reasonable pace, and they actually had the milkshake this time, which felt like a small win. Unfortunately, they were out of apple pies. Food tasted standard for McDonald's, though I will say my kids go absolutely bonkers for their fries, so that was a hit. This is a chain restaurant so several things are pretty standard (ie decor, etc). The service couldn't have been worse. Placed a curb order and it never came out. I went inside and it turned out that hadn't printed several mobile orders. While they took care of me because I came in- it's annoying that I had to go inside to chase my meal down. The food was ok, but wrong. Considering I had to get my order inside, I'm not surprised they got our customizations wrong. And the staff is MISERABLE. Place my order online got charged the money taken out of my account and then I drive up to the window after waiting in a 20 minute line just for the woman at the counter did not give me my food because she says they couldn't get the money even though they took my money and then proceeded not to help me or get a manager. Went here on Saturday November 16th 2024 with my parents because we were in the area and feeling thirsty. This location is part of a little shopping center with sterling optical nearby, a chili's and other stores. McDonalds also has plenty of parking including in the surrounding area. Even in the nostalgic bosom of my hometown, McDonald's blinked... now changing the cooking and prep methods for the next traunch of 500 billion burgers to be sold. Even as they reduce cooking time (and downsize patties) to allegedly promote juiciness and drown their burger concoctions in additional "special sauce" (eg thousand Island dressing) I'm thinking, "can things actually get worse?" If you want to replicate the taste profile of the bespoke burger joints like Five Guys, make better, bigger burgers with an endless choice of toppings. At McDonald's the mystery is still in the meat which is still being grilled while flame broiling is the preference at their new competitors. Just like the exodus out of New York State, citizens of McDonaldland are fleeing to friendlier burger climes to stop being taken advantage of. So the question remains, why bother with a mediocre burger that is being made slightly less mediocre when you can bypass the arches for a vastly superior product at any number of burger shops. At McDonald's you should be able to count on the standards to know what you're getting. Honestly I haven't eaten at a McDonald's in probably 5 years. Todays 'big breakfast with hotcakes' was fair. The hotcakes were good, sausage good, eggs had literally zero taste. Biscuit cold. Coffee was so hot I'll drink it next week... The sign on the door(see picture). I'm tempted to stay longer just to see what kind of fun I can have. That is ridiculous. Upon further examination half of the tables in here are dirty and have crumbs on them and since I've been sitting here for the last 30 minutes, waiting to get kicked out, the cleaning crew and stocking crew have been yelling and banging stuff around the entire time. I'm not a frequent flier at McDonalds, but I was waiting for my car to be repaired in the vicinity and I walked over for a bit of lunch. I was surprised to see everyone standing in front of kiosks placing their orders. In no mood to learn more technology I sought out people who would take my order. There was a friendly good looking young lady waving me over who asked for my order. I ordered the 1/4 pounder with cheese fries and a medium coke. Classic. And paid in cash. She gave me a numbered sign which she said I should place on my table and she would deliver my order to me when it was ready. Wow! Such service at a Mickey Ds. Anyway in short order she brought me lunch with a friendly smile and I dug in. No kidding, this order was freshly prepared. The burger was hot and juicy, the fries were crisp and hot and the coke..well it was coke. Usually I expect warmed up food that's been sitting for awhile, but not here. It was terrific!
