It's very rare that I visit McDonalds and even more rare that I would actually have a good experience. I came to this Micky D's on my way to visit family in Ohio. It's one of those gas station/drive thru experiences. The drive thru is on the left side - which is a little strange... However, we ordered breakfast around noon and the guy taking our order was professional and quick. When we got our order, it was super quick, considering there were 4 cars before us. When we got to the window, the kid was very polite and even apologized for the wait. I was like... Uh... What wait? So that in and of itself impressed me! Great service! I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich along with an iced coffee. The sandwich actually looked like it could have been in a commercial vs. being slapped together which is my usual McDonalds experience. Lastly, the iced coffee was perfect! Everything in me wanted to give this place 3-4 stars but this location was on top of it! 5 stars it is.

We were welcomed the minute we walked in and offered to sit wherever we wanted. The dining area is long and narrow with a handful of tables and a snack bar with stools. We sat where we had a nice view of the counter. The menus are posted at the tables. Breakfast items are a la carte and inexpensive. The coffee is locally roasted - I ordered a latte which came out fairly quickly. The coffee was strong and good. I ordered a couple eggs, bacon and a bagel. The eggs were cooked well done, like I like. The bacon was sweet and delicious. The bagel came with cream cheese and was fine. The staff is friendly and efficient. The lunch menu is interesting, as well. They carry a few gift items, including the coffee beans, and gift cards in the shop. The cafe is connected to a bookstore and salon on the sides. There was a small group of people having a loud work discussion which detracted a bit from the experience. There is plenty of free public parking and even bike parking. There are tables outside if you want to bring your pup. Restrooms were available. I will be going back to try the lunch menu. I loved it.

One good friend wrote about it, then a Yelp friend mentioned it the same day when I saw her in person. I guess those two things were a sign that I needed to visit? Journalism school taught me that three instances of something equals a trend, but I was satisfied with two things, this time. Hitherto is more than half an hour from where I live, but I made time on a Friday morning to visit. To heck with work and the PTO meeting, right? Your girl needs a chai latte! I usually exclusively drink black coffee, but I heard that the chai latte here is dope so that's what I got. I'm glad I did! It was smooth and creamy, with just the right amount of spice. I also got a chocolate chip cookie, because it had fleur de sel on it. I love sweet things with salt on them! I like to think I'm a chocolate chip cookie connoisseur, and I can spot a great CCC just by glancing at it. I wasn't even in the mood for a cookie, but after looking at the cookies in the display case, I had to get a chocolate chip cookie because I knew it would be amazing. I told myself that I would take it home and eat it later, but I ended up eating it in my car. You guys. The chocolate chip cookies at Hitherto are perfect. I don't know if they make them in-house or source them from elsewhere, but if you want a little sweet treat and you're not sure what to get (they have lots of delicious-looking baked goods), get the chocolate chip cookie with fleur de sel. It's a good thing. The space inside the coffee shop is so cozy and inviting. It's a small space, but when I visited, there were plenty of tables available. Some people were tucked into a corner playing board games, some people were behind laptops working, and some were chatting with friends. It was a nice vibe, and I'm so glad a place like this exists in Indy. I just wish it were located closer to me! Part of the shop is a space dedicated to new board games that you can purchase. They had lots of games for all ages and interests, and even my oldest kid's favorite board game, Splendor. They also have board games that you can borrow and play at your table. Bonus: They play good music here! Hitherto was exactly where I should have been at that very moment on Friday morning, and do you know why? Because when I walked in, a song that I've been rinsing and repeating was playing over the speakers (a Jose Gonzales cover of a The Knife song). What! It's not even a popular cover. I plotzed. It's so fun when things like that happen in life.

You can find caffeine in many forms here: lattes, cold brew ... whatever else. My mind is blanking on all of the other coffee drinks, because I just ordered a cup of the house blend to go (black). It was just the thing that I needed. I drink my coffee very slowly, so it's important that my coffee taste good as it makes its way from piping hot to lukewarm. The black coffee at The Caffeinery tastes good in all temperatures! What a relief. Sometimes, coffee will taste more bitter as it gets cold, but that's not the case with this coffee. It was good from start to finish. There's a little play space for kids here, which I love to see. I wasn't visiting with my children, but when I was a young mom, I was always on the lookout for restaurants and cafes with nooks for kids. That's really cool that The Caffeinery has a play area for children here. Parking is on the street, and I had no probably finding a free parking space.

The facility was quite nice, especially for being appended to a gas station. Its decor was as nice as most coffee shops of any kind. I tried the coffee and was pretty happy with it. But the Greek donuts were the highlights. Unfortunately, they were out of banana sauce so the Funky Monkey loukoumades were not available. That was a disappointment but the traditional (honey, cinnamon & walnut) and the Nutella loukoumades were terrific.
