Hobart doesn't need Grill'd... we've got Burger Got Soul. The burger list is overwhelmingly…read moreawesome, and I refuse to believe that anyone would have trouble finding a burger to meet their needs. The menu is on par with burger joints on the mainland in terms of price, and BGS is keen to draw attention to the freshness of their ingredients, from their salads through to their house-made buns. Eat in store or take away. My favourite thing about take away at BGS is that they welcome phone orders, so instead of having to hang around Sandy Bay for fifteen minutes, you can just roll up, collect your order and take off. Perfect. Plus there's Gillespies Ginger Beer (my happy place) in the fridge. If you're dining in (or waiting for takeaway) there's also free wi-fi for customers, which is always a winner in my books.

All I know is that when we stumbled through their doors it was like we'd made it to some kind of magical burger wonderland. An amazing range on offer, all with good quality ingredients. When we first ordered a burger, we decided to go halvsies, but didn't tell that to the lady at the counter. She looked up at us and said "Do you want me to cut it in half so you can share?" and I almost hugged her. A burger chain that doesn't get pissed off at you for sharing! Woohoo! The burgers are humongous, and I don't think we've ever eaten a burger each when we've been. One burger between us + chips + a drink - makes the cost per burger more than reasonable. Our favourite is the Tassie Tempter. Yum. They also have dessert'ish options (brownies, cupcakes), but we've never had room to try them. If you only get to have one type of burger in Hobart, make it a Burger Got Soul burger.

Belles, you are on the wrong side of town for how excellent you are and Eastern Shore folk are not giving you the appreciation that you soundly deserve. Or maybe that's just lunch times? I honestly hope so. Belles describe their menu as Asian-inspired American style food and at first I scratched my head a little, but now that I've been there, I can't disagree. The cauliflower nuggets came with a satay dipping sauce, for heck's sake! And it was perfect! I'm normally all for a burger but I couldn't help myself from ordering two snack plates as my main, because those two snack plates were already-mentioned cauli nugs and chipotle mac and cheese, perhaps my Achilles heel of menu items... I also got a spritz to drink made with Okar, which is Aussie distillery Applewood's take on Campari. So good, so good. The dining spaces are airy and lovely, some booths, some stools, and an open kitchen. The back of the restaurant looks out over Bellerive boardwalk and really the only thing missing here is outside dining on the boardwalk side, because summery days shoving Belles burgers in your faces on the boardwalk would be DIVINE. I'm already such a fan of Belles that I'm confident I'll be dragged over to the Eastern Shore to make my way through the menu more often. And I actually can't wait.

I requested a booking online bUt it wasn't really necessary on a midweek evening at the end of January. Instead of the nice table inside, we grabbed a spot outside on the great shaded patio. Burgers and sandwiches make up most of the menu and tHere are several versions of sliders as well. We chose the eye of beef filet sliders, a side order of chips (thick cut fries) and a Cesar salad. The salad particularly tasted good after a long couple of days off traveling. Overall the food was decent but nothing all that special or memorable. Nonetheless the atmosphere was great with lots of locals grabbing pints of beer after work and enjoying the beautiful weather.

We eventually got a table and began to browse the menu, none of the burgers sounded all that appealing and were all very expensive for a burger, even before adding fries/drinks. One of us ordered their biggest burger (over $22) and when it came out, it didn't look good, they said the patties and other ingredients tasted burnt and the bread was old. For a place in Salamanca, this was a poor experience and we will not be returning, how they're in business I have no idea.

OH HENRY I BLOODY LOVE YA!…read more Big Henry's is my favourite food truck in Hobart for 2016, hands down. They're doing pretty good holding onto the crown in 2017 too, I won't lie to you. Why do I love them? I dunno, their food just really rates with me. The top of the menu board features the Big Henry, a whopper of a tasty sanger with fries included--the only problem with getting this one means you can't get poutine instead, and it was the promise of actual cheese curds on their poutine that first had me chasing this truck down way back when. If you get the poutine, you may just have enough room to squeeze in a burger bun, as well. But will you have the fried chicken? (It's so good.) Or the mac & cheese patty? (It sounds like a heart attack but I want to go to there.) What I CAN tell you is if you get the poutine, a burger bun AND the mac & cheese sticks then you definitely won't fit all of them in. Look, it was ambitious, but I was also impatient and needed to try all of them. Life is a real struggle sometimes. Big Henry's update their locations on Facebook on a weekly basis, but currently they're in fairly regular spots (this makes it all the more heartbreaking when they AREN'T there one week for whatever reason, but we're all adults and we'll survive). Possibly the best place to find them is most Sundays at the Food Truck Market down at Red Square, but be warned, you'll be spoilt for choice. Don't say I didn't warn you, because I literally just did. (Get Big Henry's, though.)
