Vegan burger and beer battered mushrooms with a honey and sesame sauce
Dee M.

Can't wrong this place at all! It's got all you need, from a wide rang of wines and beers from all different regions and countries to a casual and chilled vibe. There's an old abandoned bus outside covered in lights with cushioned chairs and wooden benches and heaters all around. It's a great place to meet with friends or just sit with a good book. The food was delicious, not just your typical pub food! Lots of vegan options and generally healthier options too! Definitely worth coming to when you're in Hobart!

Vege (felafel) Burger

A quaint little place, once you find it (duck into the side street, down the lane, and around the corner to the other lane way). It's an old house that's been transformed into a pub-restaurant, with an outdoor yard around the side that hosts an iconic bus (in which you can sit, eat, and drink). Nice ambience. Order inside at the bar. Food is great. I had the Vege (felafel) Burger, which really hit the spot, served with a good helping of thick cut fries. Good range of beers on tap, too. It was reasonably quiet on a Sunday night.

Peaches is a fantastic little hideaway in Salamanca. Great beers, great food. Though, I'd like to see a few more international beers.

Needing a refreshment break from all my shopping down at Salamanca Markets, this place was perfect on a sunny (warmish) Hobart afternoon.

Belles, you are on the wrong side of town for how excellent you are and Eastern Shore folk are not giving you the appreciation that you soundly deserve. Or maybe that's just lunch times? I honestly hope so. Belles describe their menu as Asian-inspired American style food and at first I scratched my head a little, but now that I've been there, I can't disagree. The cauliflower nuggets came with a satay dipping sauce, for heck's sake! And it was perfect! I'm normally all for a burger but I couldn't help myself from ordering two snack plates as my main, because those two snack plates were already-mentioned cauli nugs and chipotle mac and cheese, perhaps my Achilles heel of menu items... I also got a spritz to drink made with Okar, which is Aussie distillery Applewood's take on Campari. So good, so good. The dining spaces are airy and lovely, some booths, some stools, and an open kitchen. The back of the restaurant looks out over Bellerive boardwalk and really the only thing missing here is outside dining on the boardwalk side, because summery days shoving Belles burgers in your faces on the boardwalk would be DIVINE. I'm already such a fan of Belles that I'm confident I'll be dragged over to the Eastern Shore to make my way through the menu more often. And I actually can't wait.

Society is the only place I actually want to drink in Salamanca. I tend to avoid that corner of…read moreHobart, because it's touristy and gross, but it's so nice to know that somewhere like Society exists down there and I can take refuge there. The gin selection is exceptional and there's always a gin of the week, which is a great opportunity to try a gin you may not have encountered before. Society also now makes their own tonic syrup in house, and I believe they're the first place in Hobart to be doing that. ALL THE KUDOS! It's such a special sort of offering and shows how much they care about their drinks. Also back to gin again, Society do gin tasting platters... correct. Half nips of four different gins (be it a Tasmanian platter, an Australian platter or a tailored platter) with a splash of tonic and a garnish to suit each different gin. A really fun way to try a few different variations in one sitting, because gins can be so different! I LOVE GIN! There are always plenty of events happening at Society too, all posted on their facebook, from regular weekly events like Tapas Tuesday to one-off events like fundraiser dinners and spirit masterclasses.

This Thursday was raclette night and they take bookings for the few tables they have for a 6pm or 8pm seating - we booked 8pm but decided to sit on one of the comfy couches. The raclette was delicious and a generous portion of melted and crispy raclette cheese and prosciutto over potatoes with a bit of salad for $15. There is a huge selection of spirits though we had a nice bottle of Cabernet which was also good value.
