Great little cafe- "second best burgers in Hobart" and perhaps the coziest sunroom. Excellent value, cheerful staff, and very homey atmosphere. Only wish they were open later (and still had a chessboard)! read more

What you get food wise is finger foods, tapas-type things and some burgers. They have a lunch special with Tacos, which is what I ordered. They were fine enough, but the coffee? Dreadful. I didn't expect perfection from what's essentially a bar, but boy was it terrible. Milky and bitter somehow at the same time. What really got me was how LOUD it was. I don't to be the old man yelling at a cloud, but the music was so loud at 2pm I had to point to the menu item I wanted because the bartender and I couldn't understand each other. There's better lunch spots and definitely better coffee to be found.

The menu is on par with burger joints on the mainland in terms of price, and BGS is keen to draw attention to the freshness of their ingredients, from their salads through to their house-made buns. Eat in store or take away. My favourite thing about take away at BGS is that they welcome phone orders, so instead of having to hang around Sandy Bay for fifteen minutes, you can just roll up, collect your order and take off. Perfect. Plus there's Gillespies Ginger Beer (my happy place) in the fridge. If you're dining in (or waiting for takeaway) there's also free wi-fi for customers, which is always a winner in my books.

Belles, you are on the wrong side of town for how excellent you are and Eastern Shore folk are not giving you the appreciation that you soundly deserve. Or maybe that's just lunch times? I honestly hope so. Belles describe their menu as Asian-inspired American style food and at first I scratched my head a little, but now that I've been there, I can't disagree. The cauliflower nuggets came with a satay dipping sauce, for heck's sake! And it was perfect! I'm normally all for a burger but I couldn't help myself from ordering two snack plates as my main, because those two snack plates were already-mentioned cauli nugs and chipotle mac and cheese, perhaps my Achilles heel of menu items... I also got a spritz to drink made with Okar, which is Aussie distillery Applewood's take on Campari. So good, so good. The dining spaces are airy and lovely, some booths, some stools, and an open kitchen. The back of the restaurant looks out over Bellerive boardwalk and really the only thing missing here is outside dining on the boardwalk side, because summery days shoving Belles burgers in your faces on the boardwalk would be DIVINE. I'm already such a fan of Belles that I'm confident I'll be dragged over to the Eastern Shore to make my way through the menu more often. And I actually can't wait.

I like the packaging of the messy, drooly burgers--securely wrapped in alfoil THEN burger packaging, for ultimate spill-trappage. I'm also a big fan of the trucker chips, with dat sauce. However... they just get an average from me, for a few reasons. The trucker chips, while delicious, have been a little on the undercooked side the two times I've had them now (gimme chips with a bit of crunch or gimme death, basically). And the burgers are good but they're on par with the Standard, my fave burger place... and the truck's selection is minimal. Of course, because it's a truck! They can't run a dozen different burgers! I get it! But I gotta be honest. I just gotta feel my feelings. And I want to place my order from the comfort of my bed before running past the truck to grab and go. Their food in general was ok and it was nothing special. Don't waste your time going there and don't be fooled with the fact that this place is so packed / busy. Aussies just love Indian food, more than people do here in the United States, so everyone just goes there giving the illusion that it is good. Also it probably doesn't hurt that it is conveniently located in Salamanca where all the cool restaurants and bars are. I heard from lot of people that Bombay House is much better. It was tasty and a bit spicy, but not nearly good enough to be worth getting on any kind of regular basis. I will say that though the price was high, they were open over Easter break and didn't have an extra surcharge during that period (as is not uncommon in Australian business), so that's good.
