About 3 PM on a Saturday, we went through the drive-through. We ordered two hamburgers, a quarter pounder with cheese meal, no ketchup, extra onions, add barbecue sauce. We were in a rush so we decided to eat in the car. I immediately noticed that the burger was hot, and fresh which I appreciate, if I'm going to eat fast food I want it to be its best. Upon realizing that the bbq sauce was not in my burger, I was a little bummed. Whatever though, it wasn't worth going back for. Finally, when we realized that they also forgot our drink - I was pretty disappointed, two things... that's not cool. I called and Melissa the manager said that they could refund my money or replace the order next time. We returned and they refunded our card. Thank you for that however- I hope they work on the minor details that really make a huge difference such as, paying closer attention. Food quality was good and speed of service, acceptable. First of all, it is a McDonald's. It is not Roy's. The food is what it is. If you want better food or service, go elsewhere. I stop by this location more times that I like to admit and the mobile app with the points system is evil. It keeps me coming back for freebies when I really shouldn't. The app is easy. I put my order in before I leave home and go through on of the two lanes at the drive through. It might just be in my head but I feel like it takes longer if I use curbside service. McDonald's are often seen and experienced as one and the same. Everyone knows what they want when they go, and no one expects a 5-star experience for the price they are paying for some fast food. I have visited this particular location many times before, and I've never been too impressed with the service or the food. After many visits, I've had numerous wrong orders and forgotten items in the past (something I totally expect from any McDonald's, and an issue that they've always resolved when I've called them about it). I've also had some rare, pleasant surprises of an extra fry or cheeseburger. Despite all my experiences of the past, my visit on 4/13/22 at around 10:55am was exceptional, and fully worthy of a 5-star review. I had completed a mobile order and was also picking up a mobile order for a family member, using their phone. The drive-through was short when I arrived, but that's when the trouble started. Upon ordering, I then noticed that I had left my phone at home. At the window, I tried paying with my card through the app, but it wasn't working. I tried using Apple Pay, but my current balance was less than the total order price, and Apple Pay wasn't working either! My phone has had issues and has froze in the past, but this was a horrible time for that. The lady at the window was very patient with me, although she still had a job to do in taking the orders of the line of customers piling up behind me. She eventually asked another coworker to help me with other payment so that she could collect the orders behind me (totally understandable). I believe the second lady to help me was probably a manager. At this time I just asked to cut my order in half to just below my Apple Pay balance to see if that works, but the lady thought for a moment and kindly said no. She asked me how much I had in my Apple Pay. I told her, and she lowered the final price to that amount. The Apple Pay worked this time, and she saved me over $10. All she asked in return was that I stay a loyal customer. I am so sorry that I didn't record names, because I am SO grateful for the patience, kindness, and respect I experienced last week. I have never had that kind of situation before, and I never could have expected such a response from the staff of McDonalds. I will forever be a loyal customer of McDonalds Hawai'i Kai, as I have always been in the past. And if anyone from this McDonalds location can figure out who those two employees were, please give them a raise, give them a party, and give them a huge Mahalo from a loyal customer! STAY AWAY FROM HAWAII KAI MCDONALDS! I am writing this review because I am a resident of Hawaii Kai. On December 14, 2022. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with a hashbrown. The hashbrown was overcooked; hard; and oily. Since I've been going to the Hawaii Kai McDonald's. I have not had a good experience. The food is either cold; overcooked; Oily etc. If you get hot fries; then be prepared to have overcooked and very dry nuggets. You will never get a balanced meal at this location. "( " Meaning -HOT & FRESH! " It feels like the people working there don't care about their customers at all. They are just there for a paycheck. That's it. I have given this to McDonald's too many chances to get it together. I shouldn't have a oily, dry hashbrown at 9 AM. BTW - Dont think about going to this location around 9-10 PM. Hawaii Kai location is the worst on the island. The quality is extremely poor and there is absolutely ZERO consistency. Also the ice cream machine is always "not working" after around 8-9pm-ish literally on a daily basis. Maybe invest in a new ice cream machine that doesn't break down every night or hire employees that are not too lazy to have to clean the ice cream machine after closing. We all know it's not broken. We usually come here cause the service at Aina Haina is horrible. These servers are pretty quick for a busy McD's. The drive thru always has a few cars when we come. It's McD's... don't expect the food or service to be like from a 5 star restaurant. We've always had good/quick service when dining in. Wifey and I usually share the 20pc nuggets and have some leftovers for lunch the next day. No, that's not the only thing we get. We also get the BOGO Big Mac deal... or if they don't have it we'll get some kind of burger to go with the nuggets. The food is always hot and crispy when need to be. Business hours shows close at 11:00pm, when I pull in the drive-through it shows 10:57pm On my phone. And the menu lights still on. When I try to order, the worker told me that they closed. At first I thought I remember the wrong business hours. But when I ask what time they close, she answer 10:54pm, and then just turn off all the lights , and speaker. I don't even have a chance to ask if I can just get a soda at least. I do understand some restaurants turn off their machines early to clean up. If I could give zero stars I would. We've been there three times in the last month and all three times we've gotten the wrong order. The boxing is right so each time we've assumed / given them the benefit of the doubt that the sandwiches inside are what they should be. But each time we've opened the wrappers / boxes to find something else. Once we got a regular quarter pounder instead of a double (and yes the receipt shows us being charged a double, plus the boxing even said "double"). Another time we got a plain hamburger instead of a cheeseburger. And the third time we got a plain chicken sandwich even tho we ordered / paid for a deluxe (which should've had lettuce and tomato). Customers shouldn't have to do employees jobs by double checking orders. If you have the extra time, drive to Aina Haina. read more

Great heart of the employees late at night! One suggestion is to help the customer service skills of the employees who's first language may not be English. The drive thru lady was nice but when she misunderstood my order, she said "haaahh" instead of "what was that?" Or "excuse me sir?" Or "pardon me". I think it was just the customer service skills that need to be strengthened for new employees and/or those who's first language is not English. Because different cultures sometimes have different communication styles, and there's nothing wrong with that. read more

Personally - this McDonald's has never failed me... and I'm here (I'm ashamed to say) at least once a week. I've never left unhappy - however I do wish they did have $1 any size soft drinks and $1 hash browns like the other McDonald's I usually go to. (Yup - I'm a regular at two McDonald's). I usually don't eat at McDonald's, like once every ten years, but this one has haupia coconut pudding pies that are pretty good. They also have those new touchscreens where you order and pay for your food and then put a number on your table and they bring the food out to you. Much more efficient than waiting in line for a cashier to free up. They also have a large screen TV showing NBA games so can't beat that. read more

I don't know why this McDonalds has such bad reviews, but I'm happy to give it a 4 stars! It is the nicest, cleanest McDonalds I've ever been to.. and the service was pretty fast. I would go here again and that says a lot because rarely do I ever eat fast food. In comparison to the ones in SF, their mcchickens are definitely a lot bigger and look more like the pictures they show on TV or on their menu. They were plump and actually looked nice.. One thing I do remember is that they don't have sweet tea, even though it clearly said it on the menu. I remember I tried to order it and the cashier said they didn't sell that here. But I was like why was it on the menu then?? And I guess she let her manager know and hopefully by now they took that off the menu since they don't serve it. I'm not a fan of their food, but McDonald's makes a great pit stop when you're in the neighborhood! While it's slow or busy and they are not paying much attention, I stroll in, use the restrooms, and stroll out. I pick up food for my mom on occasion because she loves McDonald's. It's McDonald's. Nothing more or less. Can't really say that this place is the prime choice for anything nowadays, but with the current state of affairs, more and more people come over here for cheap food. While McDonald's can be great for your wallet, it usually not good for you - depending on what you order. Service is really average for a fast food joint. Just get in, order, wait for food, and leave with food. Your choice whether or not to eat there or just take it to go. I normally get the 2 breakfast burrito meal w/ coffee+ an extra breakfast burrito, which comes out to around $5. Pretty good deal, I suppose. Everything is pretty much preportioned at breakfast, as opposed to lunch where everything seems to be much more fat laden and processed foods, especially with the french fries. With that said, McDonald's can be a go to place for whenever you have a craving for, but shouldn't be a daily occurrance. But for me, I am trying to get better at trying not to come over here, especially when it comes to not eating breakfast at home. With all that said, McDonald's is always the go-to place, along with the other hundreds of fast food establishments throughout the country and even the world. For me, I come whenever I have the craving for this kind of food - which tends to be more than normal - as tend to sleep in more and haul ass to work at the last minute. Specified plain cheeseburger twice and was assured they got it. Anyone reading this review can understand why I asked twice to make sure. Anyway, paid, drive to the next window to pick up my order, asked again to make sure after all it IS McDonalds and lady assured me yes. I mean how can they get it wrong, that's all I ordered. Left thinking I got my order correct. Am I supposed to open up the burger at the window and make sure there is nothing in it besides cheese and burger? Anyway, I was wrong, my order had cheese and burger, but also mustard, ketchup, pickles and an extra large amount of chopped onions. Usually I let things like that go if it's for me but when you're giving it to an excited child and it's wrong after I was assured numerous times it was right, I was compelled to call. Asked to speak to manager. Lady who answered said she was the manager. So I explain, she was nice enough, she asked if I would be coming back soon and I said no not today. She offers to fix it by saying she'll replace the whole order. Was pleased with the customer service until I hear her muttering something to a coworker about a customer complaint with disgust in her voice. Wow! No wonder such poor reviews on this place mostly with customer service. It's obvious leadership at the top is poor. No good role models to train staff. We ordered 15 taro pies & wondered if we could get the uncooked since we were going to fly them back with us to mainland, unfortunately they couldn't do it. The cashier was like "You like that??" With a disgusted look on her face... Uhm... Why would we order it if we didn't??? We didn't come here for someone to judge us.... But we just politely said we don't have them on mainland.
