7:30pm on May 7th. Not busy. I was surprised!! I just got a cheeseburger, fries, a drink, and I ordered a chocolate shake. The lady at the drive-thru said that their ice cream machine was down. The typical reply that I hear all the time, and people all over must hear too because they make jokes online about McDonald's never having an ice cream machine that works. So the person in front of me in the drive-thru gets several ice cream cones. I'm astonished! I look at the person when I pull up and I said, "I was told your ice cream machine was down." They just stared at me. Didn't smile didn't say a word. That's actually typical for this McDonald's. (In fact I thought I already posted a review about this particular McDonald's and how if you don't want to talk to anyone this is the McDonald's to go to, because the employees will not look at you, smile at you, or say one word to you. The exception would be the young teenage boy that goes to Bird High School.. I see him occasionally and he's always wearing the Bird High shirt.. he's very friendly/talkative.) The employees never talking or smiling I brush off because it's so typical. So I go back around thinking maybe it was just an accident or they got it working, but they told me again the ice cream machine was down. I told the girl it was a flat out lie because the person in front of me got ice cream. The lady on the switchboard was stuttering, but again said that it was down. I JUST got off the phone with the manager, and he said the ice cream machine was working!!!! He was even kind and told me to come on in and he will get my shake ready, but by then I had driven off. I did think about turning back around though to get it! He apologized and thanked me for making him aware of the situation. So now I have learned and I will let everybody know that the ice cream machines DO work here!! They are just liars. And probably lazy because they don't want to make the ice cream or clean the machines! I'm all about employees getting higher wages, but you all do not deserve $15 or $20 an hour! If you're at this McDonald's and you want ice cream but they tell you the ice cream machine was down double check because they're probably lying!!!! read more

Anyway, we went through the drive thru. The order taker was blah...not friendly but also not that rude. She just sounded like she hated life. I wouldn't consider this fast food. Always a wait or delay for your food. Ordered through the drive thru and was asked to pull over to a parking spot. Didn't realize it was a parking spot in the Bermuda Triangle. They completely forgot about me. Walked in after about 15 minutes to a ghost town, other than another customer waiting for his food. Waited another 8-10 minutes for someone to show up to the counter and help the other customer, then had to raise my voice to get the managers attention as he was heading to the back of the store. My food was sitting there on a counter, no one bothering to run it out. Of course it was lukewarm to cold by the time I got it, but the manager did a drive by drop off and run back to the grill area before I could ask for replacement. Plus they upcharged me to a larger drink, didn't ask for, didn't need a larger drink. I'd check your options if you're looking for "fast food". Hmmmm, where to begin... Let's start with my history of this McDonald's location. It used to be an awesome McDonald's and must have been run by someone totally different than the current management. The previous management also had to of built a different team that disbanded. There is definitely a difference and it seems that current members do not know what should be expected of them. With that being said I wish I would of reviewed this location in the past to say that. I would have given the previous managers/team 4-5 *'s for running a well oiled machine. With that being said onto present day. PROS: -the food tastes ok even though it is handed over at a somewhat warm temperature. -the exterior of the building is clean (haven't been inside in a while - unless you can count going in for missing or incorrect items from the drive through). -ordering in the drivethru is a consistently positive experience. Quick and accurate, welcoming staff here. CONS: -temperature of food is all over place. One day hot fries, cold burgers. Another day, hot nuggets but cold fries. *-DRIVETHRU WAIT TIMES. The ordering and payment window is always churning and accurate. The kitchen obviously can't keep up though. I shouldn't be able to order 4 nonspecialty items and pay then have to wait 15+ minutes after pulling out of the drivethru and being directed to a spot (that isn't even a designated parking space) to wait for cold food. The employees that deliver the food to the army of waiting cars outside do not even know what goes where!!!!! -everyone needs napkins, put them in the bag. Preferably more than 1 when it's obvious that a car has ordered at least 2 combos of food. Are we supposed to cut the 1 napkin in half to share? Come on, get it together management. Teach people and make them better. At least acknowledge that you have screwed up the order or that you know you took an exceptionally long time with a customer's order and apologize. I believe this is THE WORST McDonald's in Chester. I will NEVER give them another dime of my money. They have untrained employees because they can't even get the simplest orders correctly. I get to the window to pay for my order and to give him my receipt code. Get to the next window to girl is giving me a drink that I didn't order and I told her no that's not mine. Look down at the receipt. I've paid for someone's order. I give her the receipt waiting waiting finally she comes back with a refund slip. Get my order and I drive off. Later I looked at my banking they charge me 16.00 and change for 2 chicken biscuits and 2 hash browns and I used a buy one get one free coupon. Smdh! I could make it back down there. So I went back the next day to see a manager. I go inside eventually they just can't do it right at this location. Cause the gentleman in front of me was complaining to the manager about how they messed up his order. When it was my turn I explained to her what the issue was finally I had to pull out my phone and show her my banking. Then she finally gave me my refund that I was owed. But NEVER AGAIN! Another photo is INSIDE the restaurant dining area. Both photos are zoomed in because I didn't want to get too close. Women's restroom has the chunks on 2 sides (possibly fries). There was an ambulance there (he was grabbing some drinks). He didn't ask anything. Another guy who was waiting on something asked AN EMPLOYEE (can't blame him for not wanting to ask a random customer) what the smell was (I guess he couldn't identify it like my fiance and I did the first time we went there. The employee said that they were pumping something. If they were pumping something, it wouldn't smell like vomit. But anyway, the health department IS getting a call AND the photos will be submitted. Updating after just over a year and a half. This location has pioneered the art of poor service and "profit-before-people" practices. I have been there on a few occasions since my original review, hoping to see improvements. It got worse. They renovated the store with kiosks, less visibility to the food preparation area, and removed the drink fountains from the dining area. There is a register position (one), which is never occupied and only used when someone is unable to place an order via the kiosk or with the app. Additionally, on numerous occasions, I was in the store when a person, who I came to learn is a district manager, was actually able to cause further decline in the service here by making the employees nervous, busying them with trivial matters, etc. I saw this gentleman picking up trash around the curtilage of the store and then come back in, making no attempt to visit the restroom or the kitchen area to wash his hands after handling trash he picked up from the ground, although, I certainly can't blame him for not going in that bathroom. I'm not against the kiosks, per se, or the reduced visibility, however, it has become very difficult to make contact with an employee to obtain any service or to address mistakes made in orders, and boy oh boy are there mistakes. Asking for extra anything is a waste time, especially when placing an app order. They barely put on the normal amount (profit). Asking for something as simple as salt, ketchup, mustard, napkins, or water, is a challenge. They NEVER include these items in the bag (profit), hoping you'll leave the store before noticing, same as the drive-thru. Trying to be proactive won't work either. Just last night I received my order with no salt, no ketchup, no mustard, and no napkins, after specifying in the app that I wanted extra mustard and extra pickles, so I made contact with an employee (not an easy task), who seemed annoyed that I interrupted her normal practice of ignoring people at the counter. I asked for salt, ketchup, mustard, napkins, and water. She came back with the smallest amount of each item except salt, which she claimed they had none of, and I heard one of her coworkers make that very statement. A minute later, my wife went to the counter and was able to score two packs of salt. At this point, I no longer expect anything except more incompetence and less service; it has become a point of amusement for me to see how far down they can take their poor performance. There were a couple of good employees, but they have since left, one of which was a supervisor who gave us an earful about how the place was run. There was one young lady who we saw being interviewed for the position in the dining area, who later became a beacon of hope for good service, but I guess the negative environment was just too much for her. I heard she got a job at a well-known home improvement chain. We wish her well. This location does not represent what we've come to expect from McDonald's. One location in Williamsburg, VA is incredibly good. Place an order on the app while in store and you will meet a person half-way to your table with the correct order. It's amazing how well-run the store is and how polite and courteous the employees are. The exact opposite is true for this Chester, VA location. read more

If I could leave no stars I would. This is consistently THE WORST McDonalds I have ever dealt with. Slow, wrong orders and rude workers. My wife ordered a Diet Coke and the worker put down Sprite. When my wife was handed a Sprite and she said she didn't order one, she was told that was what her receipt said so that was what she was getting. The person at the window called her a B*tch. Pulled into the new double lane drive-thru at 6:35PM, both lanes full not moving. I decided to go into the restaurant, my wife and daughter stayed in the drive-thru my son and I ordered at kiosk, which was an easy and good experience. Restaurant only had a few people in it and only two orders pending. 12 minutes for a 10 piece chicken nugget meal and fries? Come on McDonalds! I worked for McDonalds on Midlothian and in GA 32-33 years ago and we had a smoother operation back then. Someone needs to look into restaurant operations at this location and I am sure many more to see where some efficiencies can be enhanced. If McDonalds is trying to migrate from a Fast Food restaurant then let the public know, this way the expectation for fast service is not expected and you can plan your route and food choices accordingly. read more

I previously gave a great review of this location. However my review has now changed I would say in the last 6 months this restaurant has gone down. If you order on the app ahead of time you end up waiting in one of the mobile pickup spots for 15 minutes. This is after mobile ordering in advance and paying; I have pulled up to very short lines and been directed to a spot. Save yourself trouble trying to order inside and eat STAFF will ignore you and you have to use the kiosk and still you wait forever it is impossible even trying to go inside to pick up your mobile order inside too. They don't even acknowledge you entered the place. And if you go through a drive-thru even if it's hardly no cars it won't matter cuz they'll have me waiting forever. Thursday the last time I went I stood at the speaker for over 10 minutes and no one said a word to me. Although they chatted plenty with each other. Eventually when I found the opening I merely just left without ever being given the chance to order. I went to KFC right nearby no issues. 3 months ago I waited in the pull ahead drive thru area for 20 minutes. I have learned my lesson this McDonald's is not able to serve the community they are in satisfactory. Came here because I was craving Mocha McFrappe and I drove through the drive through to order it. They wrote iced mocha in the screen. When asked about the mistake, they told us they didn't have either one anymore, so I just orded two iced coffee instead and a strawberry milkshake. Upon going to the window and paying for the items, I was asked to park at the reserved drive through and someone would bring out our drinks. I didn't think getting drinks would take like 15 minutes before they brought it to us. I saw through the doors that they were able to serve people quick from the inside and drive through, but for waiting for drinks, they were ridiculous. I've been going to this McDonald's for more than ten years. It was great back then, only the occasional problem. I don't know what happened but in the past 3 years or so, it has become awful. You're lucky if they get your order right. That's after waiting 20+ minutes. They can't even make a soda correctly!! 8 times out of 10 it's either too syrupy or not enough syrup. Lines here have gotten slower and slower over the past several months, with more and more mistakes. I ordered three items tonight and they got EVERY item WRONG. My order was a Mcdouble, McChicken, large tea half-cut. What I actually got-after an 18 minute wait in the drivethru- was a McDouble with only cheese, no other toppings, a McChicken that had no lettuce Ann's mayo but did have a smidgeon of ketchup, and an unsweetened tea. 0 stars if I could. First of all, they usually mess up our order. But it's McDonald's so in reality, my expectations are not high. Last night, however, was the straw that broke the camel's back. As I was waiting for the food and drinks, I see a cockroach crawling on the wall, near the employee's head. Now folks, it wasn't a water roach or outdoor roach, it was a dirty house roach. So I say, "Excuse me, there's a cockroach by your head." The girl looks at the roach for several seconds and completely ignores me, handing me the drinks. So I ask, "Are you going to pretend I didn't just tell you there was a roach by your head and that you didn't just watch it crawl by you?" Again, complete silence and indifference. So I ask, "Are you normally surrounded by cockroaches here?" Alas, she spoke and said, "I don't know" and handed me the food. I don't know? What in God's name goes on in that kitchen? In my experience, when someone doesn't react adversely to things that would normally illicit a strong response, that person is accustomed to those things--in this case, filthy cockroaches in the workplace.
