While our renovation project with McCurdy came with its fair share of challenges and delays, we're ultimately very pleased with the final result. The initial phase was difficult, largely due to the project being underbid by a previous salesperson, which led to some unexpected complications and a longer timeline than anticipated. That said, we truly appreciate that McCurdy stood by their commitment. They didn't walk away from the job and saw it through to completion. Find another company. We hired structures (McCurdy sister company) to create a built in office desk and a bench for a dining room table. We have had ZERO communication with this company for over 5 months at this point. They happily took a $10k+ deposit and have proceeded to ignore us. Even after going to meet the owner and being assured communication would be a priority, they have still not responded to us after 3 weeks. Basically we were told the project would be completed in 3 months. It has now been 5 months and we don't even know if our cabinets have been ordered. I would highly recommend NOT to use this company and find another group. We are very worried this could actually be a scam company that has no intention of completing our project. read more

They came out to estimate a master bath remodel, I asked if 15K would do. They told us a $20K was more realistic, then sent us a $40K estimate... It's a 12x12 bathroom in a middle class neighborhood. I told the estimator that we we're thinking around $15K for the budget and he said $20K was probably more realistic but their services come with a designer so I said great. A week later I got the estimate... $40,886. For a 12x12 master bathroom... that we hadn't discussed materials on yet... I asked if he mixed us up with another house, and reminded him of our budget and his suggestion of a 20K budget. This was his entire response: "This is an estimate with the pricing I am receiving from my sub-contractors.  The shower is larger than usual.  Adding the barn door and the linen cabinet increases the cost.  I included the tile flooring into the closet." I've had 4 contractors here to estimate the project now. The next highest bid so far has been $18K. If he didn't want to do the project based on our preliminary visit, why not just say that instead of wasting so much of both of our time? We initially contacted McCurdy Construction for an estimate mid February based off of the good Yelp reviews. Estimator Ryan Grannis came out on 2/25/21 and provided us with some ballpark numbers. He asked if his high end of the estimate scared us ($250k) and we said yes, but that we would still like to move forward with a detailed estimate. He said he would have this to us in a week and a half to two weeks tops, and joked that he prefers to work on the bids for jobs that he likes first. I'm not sure where we fell on his preference scale, but future customers beware that if your job does not excite him enough (i.e. size of budget), you will likely get jumped in line. Apparently our $150k didn't quite do it for him. Two weeks after his initial visit I called him (3/11) to see where he was at with the estimate. He said he would have it to us the next day, and if not, he would come in on that Saturday to make sure we got it. We didn't get it that Saturday and this was the last time I was ever able to get a hold of him. I called and left him a message the following Thursday (3/18), now three weeks after the initial in-home consultation, but no response. I then called the office and the receptionist said she would email him right away to "get his butt in gear". Now four weeks later and we have still not heard a single word from McCurdy Construction or Ryan Grannis. It is disappointing that this is the most forward facing person for the company and he cannot even return a phone call. We knew this lack of communication from the initial contact representing the company was a red flag of things to come, and we wisely found a much more communicative and professional contractor. We are happy that we avoided this potential nightmare. read more

We contacted McCurdy 2 or so months ago to come out and give us an estimate. Ryan, the estimator, came out to visit. He was friendly and we came up with some good ideas of what to do with our bathroom remodel. I was told that I would receive an estimate two weeks after Ryan came by. It took 6 weeks to get our estimate. I had to contact mccurdy several times but they did get back to me. I understand things are crazy in the remodel business but we may be waiting for a year or longer when I decide to pick a company so a shorter turn around would've been nice. This company is the absolute WORST! They walked away from our project having collected 95% of the project total with only 50% of the work done. McCurdy contracts are based on milestones, such as start of framing or cabinet delivery. Our cabinets were delivered but the installation was not completed . We pushed for weeks for a competition time-line only to be told they were out of money and could not finish. We were forced to take the project over and become the General Contractor, exactly what we hired McCurdy to do. Ultimately our 120 day job took 410 days and an extra $70K. read more

It sure was an experience to go through our first-ever remodel while a pandemic hit! Despite the circumstances of being on lockdown for half of the remodel, the McCurdy crew did a great job. We love our beautiful new kitchen! They communicated daily and responded quickly to any questions or concerns. Any hiccups that arose were taken care of quickly and with care. This company is owned by Lycia and Mike McCurdy. Gave McCurdy a substantial amount of money to order cabinets as a deposit. I was directed to use Structure Cabinets by OMEGA cabinet manufacture, as they were a qualified distributor of OMEGA. OMEGA will not discuss order status or assist with customers. This is handled by companies like Mike and Lycia McCurdy. They now have a substantial amount of our companies money and seem to have no intension to refund the money or the ability to deliver what was purchased. Omega has discontinued suppling McCurdy their product for lack of payments. Ordering from Structure would be a huge mistake at this point. read more

We had someone come out and after looking at our home bathroom/etc. they promised a quote within two weeks but we never got one... I even reached out to the guy and they never responded. Seems like they don't need the work...I would also suggest using mouthwash so you don't smell like cigarettes around potential customers. read more

I had the unusual circumstance of beginning construction right as the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown hit. I was worried that my construction would be significantly impacted, but that didn't happen. They rolled with the punches and adjusted things as necessary to keep the project as on track as possible given the situation. I reached out to McCurdy Construction due to all the awesome reviews they had. I was set up with an appointment with Ryan Grannis in the first or second week of February. The whole meeting was a little over an hour, my boyfriend & I were convinced McCurdy was definitely who we were going to choose even before other appointments we had scheduled. Our meeting with Ryan was awesome, he listened to what our vision for the house was (as it was going to be a complete remodel from the inside out) & gave us some great ideas as well. Ryan left us feeling great & we were looking forward to hearing from him within the two weeks he promised for an estimate. Two weeks came & nothing, at the beginning of the third week I reached out to him on Monday, March 1 via email & his response (the same day) was " I will have it completed by the end of this week. Sorry for the delay". Saturday came & still nothing. Fast forward to March 25 when I received an email at 2:38 p.m. from Ryan saying "My apologies for not sending you the estimate yet. I have had some issues and will be working to get everyone their estimates quickly. My hope is to be caught up in the next two weeks." Well here it is, April 14th & nothing. I had given up on McCurdy after week three unfortunately & still have no GC. I understand things happen but before our appointment with Ryan ended he went on about how McCurdy is the "best in the business when it comes to communication" with their clients & that's one thing clients never have to worry about. It's unfortunate & I'm hopeful McCurdy & Ryan learn from this, especially because I saw another review from someone with the exact same experience with Ryan. read more

McCurdy Construction was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. They did a pretty big remodel for us: completely new kitchen, which included taking out two walls, plus new tile, and some significant plumbing challenges, not to mention the electrical.... We knew we had to make a major change in the footprint of our dark 1980s kitchen in our 1960 house. The kitchen had one window, a confusing entranceway, a dishwasher-sink combo that never really drained. Now we have an open plan kitchen that lets in light, has tons of counter space and is super- easy to clean. We got bids from three contractors. McCurdy's stood in the middle of the pack. What convinced us to go with McCurdy was that their estimator, Nathan, really took the time to scope out the job, to listen to our concerns and not just to talk, but show and explain to us what the possibilities were. Each subsequent member of their team had the same outstanding communication skills. Amber, the designer, made great suggestions based on our priorities, which she helped us to develop. And various members of the team visited our site three or four times before work began. Like another reviewer here has said, at no point did we feel that the project was beyond the skills of the McCurdy crew. Rob and Mike did amazing job of keeping us posted as to the schedule. We added a bathroom with an outside entrance so there wouldn't be a wet trail from the pool through the house. We also remodeled our kitchen and laundry room. Not having a place to cook or wash clothes for months is no fun. As a result, I kept the pressure on. No problem for McCurdy. The workers were conscientious professionals and so were the subcontractors. We were always able to connect with project managers. They even sent an email every night describing what the crew would be working on the following day. Best of all, the finished product is top-notch. People who knew what they were doing installed the cabinets, countertops, floor and bathroom tile, lighting, plumbing and the finished painting. No detail was too small to be addressed. I have 5 rental homes that need to be completely updated and remodeled (kitchens, baths, flooring, painting, new fixtures) and am ready to start on the first one now with the others to follow serially upon completion. After finding this firm here and on Angie's List, with their consistently good reviews on both sites, I called and spoke with Mike the owner who referred me to his estimator Tom. After some phone tag, Tom came out (on time) to do the estimate. Tom within a few minutes became quite disinterested in the job stating that since I had already picked out tile, vanities, some fixtures (but NOT kitchen cabinets, countertops, many fixtures, etc.) there was not enough profit margin in it for his firm and they did not do mostly labor and supplies projects. (He also said they did not really do "flips'. I told them these were rentals of my father who passed recently and that my sister and I would be keeping them but wanted to update them.) Anyway, I was surprised by his lack of interest because when I described the job to the owner, I was not told that they primarily supply (and mark up) purchases with their remodeling- after all, I was not in need of an interior design firm. And despite having 4 other houses to remodel, he just was not interested in basic contractor work unless they could sell most of the materials and so he declined to proceed looking at the house after a few minutes and said he was not interested and would not bid. Only later after reading some reviews on Angie's List did I find I was not the only potential customer to be told this after the fact. In trying to find a contractor for these projects, I did run into firms with a similar business model yet was told this fact at the initial inquiry thereby revealing that we would not be a good fit business-wise. I wish McCurdy would have done the same as better initial communication would have saved us the both time and expense of a pointless meeting. Clearly, given the reviews, this firm does good work at presumably acceptable prices and for those who need a turn-key, full service design and build approach, McCurdy should be considered. For others like myself who do not need that much design help and wish to have a wider choice of materials at a less marked up price, there are other firms that are a better match. read more

This company is the best for all of your construction needs. I don't recommend many companies, but this is one I believe strongly in. We used them for a very big remodel that included adding a new bathroom and bedroom. We chose them because they were by far the most professional company as it relates to the bidding process, and their bid was highly competitive to others. The estimator Greg was a pleasure to deal with the whole process and was always open to changes or challenges to line items on the bid. The work team was very friendly especially Rob, Juan and Derek. They kept us up to date with their schedule and cleaned up everyday which was nice because we were still living in the house. At no time did I feel like anything encountered was out of their control and they didn't nickel and dime us with unknown issues. At the end of this, they let sent in a professional cleaner to make sure they left no trace, and let us know that they stand behind their work and would fix any issues if they come up later. I met with Ryan for a walk through on our home to get an estimate for a remodel and addition on 9/28/2020. We are planning to add about 600 square feet and remodel the existing house. Ryan told me to expect to hear from him in the next week or so. I know that it's a big job and things are weird right now with Covid and how busy contractors are right now, so I was fine to wait a bit to hear back. However, today it is 12/31/2020 and I have still not heard back from him, despite reaching out no less than 4 separate times to inquire when we could expect it. He continually assured me that he would get it to me shortly but it's been 3 solid months and I have heard nothing. This company comes highly recommended and I'm very disappointed to have been treated so dismissively. I talked to Mo who was so sweet and helpful. She asked me what was going on, listened, and felt for our situation and was hopeful they could help. Justin ended up calling me the same day to go over the project and schedule a time to come out. He took the time to talk to me about everything we were looking for and explained everything very clearly. McCurdy Construction remodeled our guest bathroom and did an amazing job. My husband and I had never undertaken a project such as this and McCurdy was the ideal company to work with as they guided us through the process, never rushing or pressuring us and allowing us to take on as much or as little of the work as we wanted. Leyda was excellent in helping us decide on tile, fixtures and colors when putting this bathroom together. She listened to what I liked and was careful to listen and take my tastes into account when showing me decorating options. Their work area was kept clean and tidy every night when they left. Coco did a beautiful job on our tile work and Rob, who headed up the project was always prompt in returning my calls and keeping me informed regarding what was going on with the project so I didn't even have to ask. I have recommended McCurdy Construction to several coworkers and we are in the process of using them again for another small project in our home. McCurdy Construction just completed my bathroom remodel-- I could not be more pleased. All the work was done per schedule and quoted cost. The staff covered my floors and kept everything clean while tearing out a wall and all my old bathroom fixtures from bathtub to medicine cabinet. Electrical outlets and fixtures were replaced along with tile that needed to be re-laid where a wall was removed. Throughout the whole process, the room was clean when they were done for the day and I knew what was going to be done the next day. I was very happy with the communication throughout the process and can not say enough about the attentiveness of the staff. My bathroom looks amazing! McCurdy Construction was excellent from start to finish. I renovated my master bath and walk in closet. Part of the room was taken down to the studs, so it was a very extensive remodel. The crew was excellent. Not only were they friendly and respectful, but genuinely nice people. Secondly, they were extremely cautious and careful not to do any damage to other areas of the home that had to be traversed on a daily basis. Third, they did an amazing job of the remodel and had some of the most talented and thorough subcontractors as a part of the project. Finally, these guys weren't here to just get it done. They noticed when there were issues adjacent to the project that needed a touch-up or adjustment and would always ask, "would you like me to XXXX while I'm here?". This remodel exceeded my expectations (and my budget) but the budgetary part was my fault! It should also be noted that Leyda was an awesome partner in figuring out the design.
