Both the air conditioners in our home were over twenty years old, but they were still working fine. Over the past several years, whenever we had a problem with a unit, a contractor from our home warranty company would invariably tell us the unit was too old to be repaired and needed to be completely replaced. Luckily, I found McConahy Mechanical several years ago and they have been outstanding. Every time the home warranty company would say the units weren't repairable, I'd call McConahy and they'd come out within a day and fix the unit for a very reasonable charge. I eventually dropped our home warranty coverage, since it was clear their contractors either weren't competent or weren't honest, or some of both. We finally decided to replace both units this year. The only company I called was McConahy Mechanical, since I trust them implicitly based on all my prior interactions with them. The quotes they gave me were reasonable, Chris McConahy called me to cover the differences between the quotes and answer all my questions, and they scheduled the work within two weeks. The new units were installed over two days, and they are fantastic! As always, the crew from McConahy showed up exactly on time, they were friendly, polite, and professional, the work was done in the time frame they'd quoted, there were no "surprise charges", and they cleaned up meticulously when they were finished. Chris called me over the weekend just to make sure everything about the project had gone smoothly and to make sure we are pleased. Of all the many contractors we've dealt with over the past nearly forty years, I would put McConahy Mechanical at the very top of the list in terms of integrity and professionalism. They have always surpassed our expectations in terms of responsiveness, and every single one of their team members that we've met over the past several years has been a delight to work with. My Casita AC failed. It is 23 years old. Chris the owner came to give me an estimate; the details are extrordinary. 1. His bid was significantly lower than the others. 2. I went with a ductless A/C. His quote included closing up five duct holes from the old unit, sheet rocking, patching and painting; the only bid to do this. 3. A truck came and took the old unit away. At the end of the job, I looked at what was done and to coin a phrase that I saw on television; "like it never really happened". Everything was perfect. No "surprises" or "This is the first time I've seen this happen....." (don't you hate that when you hear that from a "Professional Contractor?" :) All the fittings, solder joints were PERFECT, he ran new lines as I bumped up to an 80 gallon tank, so some new dimensions were in play here, and everything came out, like I said - PERFECT! I was referred to Chris last summer by a friend of mine when one of my AC units was not working. My 5 star experience started when he answered his phone on the first ring and was at my home within hours to fix my AC unit. Rather than recommending new units, he fixed the problem at hand which cost under $200 and suggested I'd get several more years of use out of my existing units. I hesitate to recommend Chris because I want his quality service to stay "my little secret," but he has earned this review. I have been using Chris for over four years. Each year he services my home hvac units, my parents' units, and all of my rental units. As other reviewers mention, Chris is very trustworthy. I have always felt comfortable sending him to all of tenants' homes unsupervised. In fact, Chris is authorized to do repairs at my rentals without getting pre-approval from me ahead of time.I never worry he will make up repairs. If the situation warrants it, he sends me pictures. Just as described below, the majority of the time, Chris is able to fix and repair units. Every time he has fixed a unit, it has been completed on the same call without multiple return trips. Unfortunately, there have been several occasions when he was no longer able to fix a unit and I purchased new units from him. I have compared his prices and find them to be fair. One thing I have noticed with cheap deals advertised on Craigslist is they all say "starting at", but don't include everything required for the job. Chris always finishes the job and leaves the units and property working and looking great with no additional or hidden charges. Last, Chris is reliable. He is prompt to answer his phone and return calls. Even in the summer months, he can schedule unexpected service calls the same or next day. During the course of our business relationship, I have probably had 75+ appointments with Chris. He has never no-showed and only rescheduled me once with plenty of notice. UPDATE 7/21. - I just had a client whom was told by a "friend" that his whole unit needed replacement at a cost of $6,000. Chris came out at my request and found a bad capacitor. The reviews here don't lie. Chris is awesome!! I'm a new homeowner and have lived in this house for about 2 years. I never had a a/c tune up even though I knew I should. A few weeks ago when I started seeing rust stains on the side of my house and I knew something was up. On the afternoon of 6/24/15 when it was 110+ degrees outside Chris and his crew came over. They told me right away I had an issue (like I expected) they told me everything they were going to do before they did it. They blew the clog clean w/ nitrogen. Then they went up in the attic to see the damage. The pan was rusted out. Chris began his spiel w/, "this is what we can do to save you some money." I know, I know in 2015 this practice is unheard of in a contractor. He said they can save the pan, but they just need to let it dry out for a couple of weeks then they would come back, wire brush it and lay an epoxy coat. He also noticed that my unit was not completely level. They cleaned the unit, blew the clogs clean, and leveled it for $65 bucks. Instead of taking me to the cleaners which Chris very much could of done b/c I'm not going into the attic when it is 110+ degrees outside. Chris told me the truth, set an additional appt to fix the pan and gained a customer for life. I highly recommend these guys!! read more
