I didn't know Lodi had wine! We stopped in Lodi off the 5 for lunch. First time in Lodi, usually a drive through. Well, we found a great downtown area with shops, restaurants, and wineries! McCay Cellars was on Yelp with great reviews so we had to go! Really nice tasting room, lots of seating around or you can stand at the bar. Lots of room. We did one tasting and shared since one of us had to drive all the way home back to the OC. Great team pouring and telling us about their wines. We took a few bottles home. Loved the Rose! Nice winery in town. Secluded spot with a fountain for ambiance outside. The wines are very good. Our favorites were the Petit Syrah and the Faith Zinfandel. Free tasting with a bottle purchase. Great place to visit. I would recommend a stop here on your trip to Lodi. read more

Sadly, not impressed. I really enjoy wine tasting, so much so that I make it a point to travel to different cities regularly to try out different places. what I look for is yummy wine but more importantly, great service. We stopped in on a whim because it was recommend by someone at a prior tasting room. I was impressed with the decor and feel of the inside. We were not greeted and the young lady pouring the wine sort of stood there and just poured the wine. There was no conversation and no explanations of the wines, it was a turn off to be honest. It was close to closing time (45 mins) and we felt a little rushed. We tried 2 wines, paid, and left without getting the remainder of our pours. I am not opposed to trying more of their wine, but this wouldn't be my first option. read more

We love this place! The young lady who serviced us, forgot her name (maybe Ashley) but she put on a great presentation and their wines are excellent! We had 5 tastings, we purchased 4 out of 5 which waived the $15 per person tasting fee. They also have snacks to purchase and they have knives and cutting boards to also enjoy with the wine. A rustic, yet modern tasting room in downtown Lodi. McCay has a large catalog of wines ranging from Grenache Blanc to Cabernet Franc; quite a variety of wines that are wonderful. Some favorites were the 2013 Faith Zinfandel is wonderful; light and fruity. The 2013 Jupiter Zinfandel is both fruity and spicy with rounded tannins and is excellent. I had the pleasure of tasting about 16 of their wines and it was hard to find one I didn't like. McCay Cellars is a great stop while in Lodi. read more

McCay Cellars is not a typical Lodi winery. Tucked into the back of an industrial strip mall, their tasting room is more typical of a funky new microbrewery. Do not let looks deceive, if you can find them, this is a great place to stop. A small sign indicates which non-descript door to enter. The tasting room is large and eclectic with a giant parachute and various picnic tables and artwork. You get a five-for-five with purchase refund, but they have a large list of wines to sample. They have some unique wines available, heavy on the Zin as your would expect. I really enjoyed the Lodi Native which had a different take on Zin, working with other wineries to revive the classic tastes. This is not a typical Lodi wine experience, but I really recommend stopping by if you enjoy seeking out something different. read more

We got a little lost going here- but found it eventually. When you see the gravel quarry, turn right immediately after! This place is right next door to it. Our Garmin thought it was further down the road. The wines were all very tasty. I tried the 5 zins. My favorite was the Jupiter. My husband loved the cab franc, though, so that's what we got. All the wines were tasty here. There were some varieties here I do not remember tasting before. The gentleman pouring was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We had a great time. There is a lot of space here. There were two picnic tables, inside, a patio table with comfortable chairs, a bar area with somewhat uncomfortable metal stools, and a couch area. I will definitely come back here. It's rare to find so many delicious different wines under one roof- usually I only like one or two wines. Here I liked almost everything I tried (the first zin (faith?) was a little to acidic for me). read more

My wife and I travel to Lodi frequently for a weekend getaway and love all the great wineries that Lodi has to offer and McCay Cellars is truly one of our favorites. It's a little hard to find and not a typical winery location (it's an industrial building) but once found and once inside truly an amazing hidden gem. It's well decorated with tons of wine barrel art, furniture etc...but has plenty of seating areas for people to chill out and relax. Plus they do have a limited cold case with some cheeses, Italian meats and other items. Unlike most wineries were it's an oyster cracker or plain almond. For my wife and I the the true best part of this winery is Alan....this guy is what makes this place so great. Not that they don't have other great and friendly employees but Alan is the real deal. Every time we come back it's like we never left. He is so welcoming and friendly to everyone. Plus his knowledge of the wines and the wine business in Lodi is amazing. Plus the fact that he is just a plain cool dude all the way around. Last year I took my whole leadership team here for wine tasting and a few folks claimed "we aren't wine drinkers" well by the end of the time spent everyone was a wine drinker. That's because Alan listened to what there likes and dislikes about wine and only poured them what they liked about wine and truly catered to their needs. He does this because not only does he listen intently to what customers want but his overall knowledge of the wine drives home the experience. Well this isn't just about my man crush on Alan...LOL their wines are amazing and the true care the vintner puts into these comes out in every taste and glass of this great wine. Our favorite is their Zinfandels they are are all old and ancient vine some as old as 108 years. We aren't fans of jammy wines and these zins are so smooth and full flavored. Recently our daughter was married here locally and lucky for us McCay was one of the choices. Everyone at the wedding raved at how much they loved their Chardonnay and Cabernet and you won't get any complaints from me. I am not a white wine drinker usually but their Chardonnay is about the only one I enjoy. Plus what else puts this place over the top for me is the owner is a huge SF Giants fan and SF 49ers so cool memorabilia around as well. So perfect fit for me....great wines, great people and representing the right side of the Bay. If you are in Lodi doing wine tasting and you don't come here then you have truly missed out. read more

Mike makes some beautiful natively fermented wines; his 15 cab franc and Lodi Native are my favorites. Alan, Gina, and the rest of the staff have always been extremely friendly and accommodating. A large group of 30 placed indoors (unmasked). Very cool, chill, laid back winery that embraces Lodi. The winery has a slight hippy/new school vibe that is a very refreshing change of pace. The inside design has quite a bit of thought put into it with nuances of Lodi every where. After your first sip of McCay wine you quickly and completely forget that moments ago you entered an industrial building. Have been here more than once and have always been treated very well. Wines are top notch in the moderate to high price range for Lodi wines. Very yummy all around though. Kudos McCay Cellars for pulling off a job very well done! Had a great time tasting at McCay. This was my first ever experience in Lodi, and I'm happy I went to McCays. The wines were great-- although the tasting room was pretty chilly, and unfortunately I think the wines were a bit too chilly (thanks, nature) because of it-- so I don't know if I was able to taste how truly great the wines were. However, would recommend checking this place out. A great atmosphere-- we got to taste the wines on the list plus more, and even got TWO tastes out of a barrel. Our pourer (I'm sad that I didn't catch his name) gave us a bottle of water and some delicious cheese along with our wine. Once I discovered that I could warm the wine up a bit with my hand on the glass, I realized the wines here were pretty great. Definitely a great place to go if you're looking for a variety of zins. The room is in a warehouse that seems to be in the middle of nowhere, but when you go inside, the atmosphere is warm (despite the cold temperature outside) and the decorations are pretty fun and very "lodi" read more

Every time I'm in town I make sure to swing by and pick up a few bottles. I love the reds (Equity, Trulux, Jupiter) but their white wines are also very well balanced. Well, I walked in saying I didn't like white wines and Mike McCay said "yes you will". I'm glad he said that and poured me a glass. I loved every single wine I tasted there today and the atmosphere and people were great too!! Not an area where you'd think you'd find a winery, but I'm glad we turned around and decided to try it. The inside of this place looks super cute and welcoming and you would have never known from the outside... the wine is average and the customer service wasn't the best... my expectations were to high I guess... my expectation was to get served and with every tasting I would be informed about what I'm tasting and where it came from etc etc... you know.. a typical tasting...this place wasn't the case... we sat down and after 2 pours we realized that we're sitting down drinking a glass of wine and wondering what we were doing there.. so we paid and walked out and they didn't even realize we didn't do our entire flight... this place was cute but I wouldn't come back for the wine or service. read more

The industrial vibe continues, and it looks to be a wonderful spot to taste, sit outside and enjoy when all the areas are finished. Great walking distance from downtown. I am not a big wine drinker; I am more of a whiskey girl but I had one of the best wine tasting experiences EVER at McCay winery a couple weeks ago! My coworker/close friend is a member of this winery. He invited me to join him on the Wine Club event on Oct 29th. The outside of the tasting room looks like an industrial area but as soon as you got inside, the decoration, the display of the wine and especially the services were beyond amazing. All of the ladies who work there were so knowledgeable, friendly, sweet, and welcoming. They are also so beautiful!!! Alan, the manger, was so friendly and adorable!! We tasted several wines and then, drove over to the warehouse/winery where wine was made. Michael gave us a long and very educational talk about wine. He patiently answered all of our questions. You can tell how much he truthfully loves wine and his job. Delicious wines and foods were served during this time and that made the experience more special! We then drove back to the tasting room and tried more wine and snacks and learned more about McCay wines. We also made new and wonderful friends. I ended up purchase a case of wine. When i shared the wine with my sister, she fell in love with it. We are planning to come back for another wine tasting. I am going to share my wine with family members and close friends so they can be introduced to McCay wine. Lodi is a nice area and McCay winery is so worth the long ride to visit.
