When the unit first opened in Addison, TX, we ate there weekly for about 4-6 months. The the company downgraded the quality of the manager and staff to the point we left for years. Recently went back to find a number of the same old problems...inattentive and ill prepared staff, temps summer and winter well suited for Eskimos. Even the staff were wearing jackets and along with the customers! We expect to eat in room temp settings of somewhere around 72-73 throughout the year. Last time...try 64. Reason...none offered. Efforts to get it corrected...largely ineffective. We froze...and decided again to forget the place. THEN the temporary miracle happened...Markail Turner turned up there as the temp GM. A prince of a good guy! Took care of everything with a good attitude. BUT, soon will come the full time replacement and no telling what will happen them. read more

This wasn't the first time I bought at this establishment but it had been over a year . The experience was not good . We did order our sandwiches to go and after we got home and opened the sandwiches they were wrong , the one on the baget was supposed to be on the white bread with jalapeños instead it was reversed. When I called the store the manager was very rude and said I know the sandwiches are right I made them . Argued with us .( It was most likely the new girl at the counter that made the mistake ) . My family and I ate here very quickly before an Arizona Coyotes game on a Saturday, and we had to rush to eat because we were running late for the game. But, despite having to rush, I could not be more pleased with our experience. The food was fantastic, the prices were competitive, the restaurant had plenty of seating, and the service was quick and helpful. The restaurant was located in a convenient location directly across from the arena, and overall, we enjoyed every moment of our experience. Got the choose two with the Horseradish Roast Beef and Cheddar with the Autumn Squash Soup. I've never had Autumn Squash soup before so I decided to get it because the picture gave me a warm and fuzzy feel. To me Autumn Squash tasted more like a dessert which isn't bad and I'm glad I tried it but I most likely won't opt for it again. Just personal preference. I also prefer my Horseradish Roast Beef and Cheddar with light horseradish sauce otherwise it drowns the sandwich. I love when places interact with yelp! It's McAlister's! In Tempe! Corporate keeps their franchises so well-maintained that anything less than 5 stars is concerning. Great service, sweeeeeeet tea and fab food is what I expect and have received at their newest AZ location (here). Sad to read that their location close to my work in North Scottsdale closed earlier this year. Free wifi = always a plus. Also a plus is their tea club card! After you buy 10, you get one free. Make sure to keep the punch cards handy so it's not forgotten. It was funny to visit the first time during their opening week as it appeared I know more about the menu than they do, but I don't put that against them since this is a rare restaurant franchise in the southwest. The only not great part is the cluster truck parking lot that they have to share with the other businesses. read more

I should have started with 'oh the smell of burnt toast in the evening...' as when we walked in, the place reaked of it, and we were told that they couldn't do anything about it??!... I ordered a choose two, veggie soup and a southwest chicken. Soup was okay, nice heat but meh. Sandwich was a little more interesting but both the lovely (who ordered a club) and I thought that for over 25 bucks we weren't blown away, heck we weren't even like, that's a great sandwich for 25 bucks. So we picked up lunch today from here; called ahead and then drove to pick it up. When we got there; there was literally not a soul in the place except for the two employees. We paid grabbed out stuff and left. Upon returning home we found a few things wrong with our order. We called the restaurant to let them know and the employee who answered was super nice and said let me get a manager for you. Let me preface this by saying my boyfriend and I both work in the hospitality industry including restaurants for 20+ years combined. We know how to handle these calls. And my boyfriend was the one talking and he is very friendly. (Definitely friendlier than me who was hangry at this point lol) The manager answered the phone like this; "Hello, you were the one with the problem?" Uhhhh... not off to a great start. So my BF told him the issues and the manager (didn't tell us his name) cut him off and says how did you order. He tells him called. Then he (manager) proceeds to have a conversation with employee who took our order without putting us on hold or anything. Finally finds our order and says, "so what's the problem?" So my BF tells him again what went wrong and the manager goes "ok I'll take that stuff off and I guess I'm going to go yell at my employees now" Whoa, so inappropriate, so unprofessional, and oh so miserable. Dude is clearly not happy with his job and honestly that's not what we wanted. That's not what anybody wants when they call to complain about their order being wrong. Today was the second time I've eaten at this location, both for lunch. They have extremely enthusiastic college students working here, like enthusiastic to the point of being annoying (I don't need a refill if my glass is more than 75% full), but it's better than being ignored. I've had the southwest chicken sandwich, southwest salad, french dip and veggie soup and all were pretty good. The southwest sandwich being my favorite. It's strange that they have lots of items on their menu online, but a limited selection at the store (I tried to plan out my meal before going to stay healthy, but 90% of the things I selected online weren't at the store.) I stopped in here for the first time the other day. I ordered the memphian. As well as a soup and a lemonade . I even asked the cashier about which sandwich was bigger between this and the french dip she said memphian was bigger. What did I receive , half a sandwich ... I have no idea if half a sandwich is their normal size when they just say sandwich ? Or if they just use half a long roll for 1 sandwich or what? But I chose that cus I thought it was gonna be big. I got charged 11 bucks for that . had I known 11 bucks got me half a sandwich I would have not chosen that. The sandwich was not piled high with meat or toppings . the bread seemed old and a bit hard . just a total waste of money. I've never had a bad experience here and the food is always delicious!! The service is speedy and all the servers are very kind. They always come around to check if you'd like a refill. I always get the choose 2 combo with the McAlister's club and I switch up the salad and it never disappoints! The idea is very much like Panera but tastes so much better and cheaper too. I have the Italian sandwich with a cucumber, salad and sweet tea. OK the sandwich was good except I could've done without the mustard. I don't like mustard but if you'd like mustard, this is a really good sandwich. My opinion Italian sandwiches should be served with olive oil and vinegar with some Italian seasoning. First time here and what a nice surprise. Lots of parking in this shopping center which makes lunch time get always from campus (ASU) easy. Parking can be difficult during the school year in the area so this is always a consideration for me. The line to order was not too bad at about 12:20. The menu is extensive. I didn't dawdle since I was hungry. I ordered the grilled chicken salad with Italian dressing and an ice tea. I learned that their sweet tea is their point of pride. I just had the unsweetened variety. Our order came out in less than 10 minutes. This is a large salad folks. So huge that I didn't finish it. It was full of tasty, crunchy croutons on top. There were at least 2 strips of bacon, cheese, cucumbers and perfectly cooked chicken. I have to say this is the freshest salad I've had a restaurant in ages. I mean really fresh. There was both spinach and romaine lettuce in the mix. So danged good. The ice tea was perfect too and it came in a very large to go cup. All that being said, I think my lunch was pretty healthy! Had a box lunch that was provided to Endurance International. It was AMAZING. First off the presentation of the food was delightful But then the taste hits you, That's is something profound. Aside from my own potato/egg salad. They HANDS DOWN have the best salad I've ever had. The sandwich I had was a Turkey bacon club sandwich and it was delicious the bread was not soggy, the meat tasted fresh, not like something slimy from a Bag. The veggies where perfectly proportioned. The LTO ratio to meat and bread was exactly the right amounts. There was a pickle individually wrapped, which was perfect and it was crunchy not soggy and slimy. Found McAlisters on Yelp and attempted to order online only to discover the rural in tempe location doesn't accept online orders. No biggie. Phone number was available and I called and got a quick answer. The girl on the phone was friendly and took my order. I did want sea salt only chips but they don't offer them at this location. Bummer. I got jalepeno instead. The girl said order would be ready in 10 minutes. Got in my car and drove down the. It's in a small shopping center but there appeared to be plenty of parking. Walked inside and there were probably 15 tables with about 4 occupied. Place looked to be pretty clean as well. I walked to cashier and assuming they were the same person on the phone they were again friendly. My order was ready on time and i paid up. I ordered the Memphian with no tomatoes, add onions. The sandwich with chips was about 12 bucks and an extra long receipt. I get home and open up. Everything looks correct but there's a lot of filler lettuce. Also I found tomato juice/seeds so clearly they put it on and took it off. Thankfully I just dislike tomatoes and am not allergic. The Memphian comes with roast beef, Turkey, and ham with provolone, mayo, spicy brown mustard on a baguette. Truthfully the sandwich was pretty lackluster. The bread was soggy, the roast beef was dry and nothing really stood out to me. Also I believe it was supposed to come with a with a pickle spear which it didn't. Disappointed to say the least! I Ordered the pick 2 with a 1/2 McCallister's Club sandwich no lettuce, with extra cheese, a 1/2 Spud with only cheese and a pickle as well as a cup tort soup. Cost was over $30. Way too high priced for what you get. A severe case of price gouging in my opinion. They put a ton of spinach lettuce on the sandwich (the only thing I asked them not to put on), zero bacon, and the bread was toasted but cold and soggy and no pickle as requested. They charged me $1.00 for extra cheese and didn't even get what's normally on the sandwich. No one was in the restaurant at 3:00 pm on a Tuesday and not even busy. No reason whatsoever that they couldn't have paid more attention to my order and the modifications on the ticket. That's why it only took less than 5 minutes to complete the order, because they left too much out and added what wasn't supposed to be added. For the price, I expected a lot more from this place. I used to eat McCallister's in New Mexico so I was excited that one opened in Tempe but the food was lacking. The Club sandwich barely had any bacon, more like a few bacon crumbs total much less one slice of bacon at all. The added avocado also still had a piece of outer shell on it. I live near a McAlister's Deli and once recall eating a good sandwich there. I haven't been there since since there are so many good sandwich places around. And then something happened...a new McAlister's Deli opened up right near my office in Tempe. It caught my attention! From the creative promotions to the deli's involvement in the local community to finally the amazing service and of course, acknowledging the good food and what makes it unique. Now, I'm sold! I'll be a regular at both locations moving forward. Readers of this review are probably wondering what makes this deli so special. In my opinion, it's the people and their connection to the community. I've been to a few different Tempe and ASU events in the past few weeks, and each time, McAlister's Deli is represented by giving out free samples of their food or coupons or even just some smiles and hellos by their staff to community members. But this is nothing compared to the excited college students working at this location along with their experienced managers. Everyone is constantly checking in on you to make sure that you have everything you need while dining at their location and even if you are waiting for food, they are having conversations with you. I visited the first week they were open, and while it took a few minutes longer than expected for food to be ready, I didn't even notice it due to the conversations I was having with the staff. Even then, I was given a coupon for my next visit as the staff thought I was waiting for too long. Definitely good customer service! The food and the atmosphere are great! There is plenty of parking, plenty of seating, and enough space for the lines that they are bound to continue having in the future. They have sandwiches, spuds (loaded potatoes with whatever you wish on them), salads, and soups. I ordered a Choose Two, where I chose a half sandwich and a half salad (a New Yorker sandwich and a grilled chicken salad) plus one of their tasty cookies on the side. All was delicious! Also worth noting is that this location hosts many fun contests relating to their location or even nearby ASU. The manager looked at chuckled a little and agreed. They totally made it right and the food was wonderful! The staff were great and friendly as well. Saw the great reviews so I tried a Reuben sandwich with the tomato and cucumber salad and a pickle spear. The corned beef serving was reasonable. I had ordered extra Swiss cheese, and it looked like there there was only 1/32 inch of cheese on the sandwich. There was about 3/8 inch of sour kraut on the sandwich, which is ridiculous. The cucumber tomato salad was 80% large half rings of red onion. It really should be called onion salad. My pickle spear was old, to the point where the seed part was dried and completely shriveled up...borderline a food safety issue. The very courteous and nice front counter lady asked me if evething was fantastic. I said I was disappointed and she grapped the "Manager". He said "Well, you ate it all". I said, I am not asking for anything from your corporation. I just won't be back, and he said: "We don't get any complaints about our reuben." Then, he just walked away. The nice lady who took my order brought me a cookie, which was good. With sandwiches being one of my favorite foods I was super excited to finally try this place. From the outside looking in this place looked really good so I figured why not give it a shot! As you can see in the pictures I posted, my bbq sandwich was primarily made of bread and had barely any meat. If I wanted to eat a bread sandwich, I would have just gone to Fry's and gotten a loaf of bread for dinner. As for the Mac & Cheese that's featured in my pictures, it looked and tasted a few days old not to mention was served cold. My boyfriends sandwich had dressing oozing out of all corners of which he ended up just eating what he could out of the sandwich. The service was also extremely slow. They had maybe 2-3 people working and a total of 8-10 people in the restaurant and the food took forever. The staff was nice, but had no sense of urgency. If you're looking for a sandwich place, drive a few miles and go to Cheebah Hut. It's the same price and knocks this place out of the water. Sad to say I won't be headed back. read more
