It is strange to write a review for a candy/chocolate vendor with no name, but I saw no name posted…read moreover the counter of this vendor at the Broadway Market. I purchased 4 pieces of sponge candy, 2 milk chocolate orange(for a present) and 2 dark chocolate. These four pieces of sponge candy weighed slightly over 1/2 pound!!! I have never seen sponge candy cut into such large pieces. I ate most of one dark chocolate piece. It had a very thick coating of chocolate over the sponge, and it was pretty good chocolate. It was the sponge that was not great. It was very dense, and it seemed not very fresh. It was difficult to bite off a piece. I could not eat the whole four plus inch piece of sponge all at one time. At $23.99/lb. the candy at this stand is reasonably priced compared to other candy stores. I just wish the sponge had been less dense and fresher.

More so in the age of Corona. Well today was a very pleasant experience at the Eastern Hills Mall. I started by taking my unneeded electronics there at 11 AM. This mall was hosting the free electronics waste recycling drop off event in their parking lot. It was so well organized. A company by the name of sunnking was there to take old electronics off your hands. A great service to the community. After that event, I browsed through the Raymour and Flanigan furniture store. This is where the old AM&As, and BonTon used to be, if you recall. Buffalo old timers like me will remember! Then I walked past the Duff's chicken wing restaurant ( yum yum) to browse and check out some very exciting new businesses at the end of the mall where the old Sears used to be. The BFLO store, the Home Today store, the BFLO Events Center (not open yet), and the Chrusicki Bakery /Pierogi store are just refreshing and exciting additions to the Eastern Hills Mall. I think this mall really has potential. I hope once the fear of corona has passed, the mall will pick up more business and folks will truly appreciate what it means to shop in person again. It was really nice to be able to walk into a store, browse through merchandise, speak with the salesperson. That's the way humans interact. The social aspect is what made the experience exceptional today at this mall. The only department store left unfortunately is JCPenney. Otherwise there are many interesting stores when would not expect to see in the mall setting. Pet stores, dog training businesses, a realtor office, even a DMV (currently closed due to Covid), Antique collectible stores, a medical fitness center, blood donor organization, to name a few. Came home with a few treats from the Chrusicki Bakery. Due to being in the Orange Zone for COVID, patrons are not allowed to dine at the tables inside the bakery. Decorated so beautifully for the holidays it was so inviting. The entrance with the fireplace and Christmas theme is worth checking out.

Fast forward to today and it is still a cool place AND most importantly, it still is open with a bunch of new stores. I think what makes this mall special is the collection of things it has in and around it. The restaurants here are all really good if you need any ideas for dinner. The stores are all good size and there's a movie theater. That's my main reason I have been there a lot recently. It is a huge mall and they're open early for folks just to walk around before stores opening. There really is something for everyone at this mall and I am glad it's still open and continuing to keep improving with new stores opening up.

There's a Dollar Tree on the side near Trader Joes (across the street). There is a Corner Bakery Café right on the NFB side as well. Just down from Orangetheory is a weight watchers location, seems to get very busy on occasion. A newer place is Amherst Buffet, not sure what it replaced. Moes is on the other side of the Corner Bakery Café. Outback steakhouse is always busy here. Lots of easy parking here makes this Plaza easy.

They did cost $14.99 each, but I liked that they had the metal piece to make them fit good at the nose, a longer strap to hang around your neck for easily keeping them with you even if you take it off, and a ear straps that were elastic but also had a bead to help tighten them if the elastic starts to wear out. This is a dying Mall, not that many people inside, but it has a great Greek place, and a spectacular pizza place, as well as a good burger stand and a bunch of cool stores - so it's a shame if this place just goes out of business, because it's a prototypical excellent mall with a really yummy food court. The McKinley mall is a sleepy old Mall in the southtowns which was once a lot more relavant and busy than it is now. It's been like a ghost town - similar to the Eastern Hills Mall out on Transit - for a long time. They're going to need to do something drastic, and they're going to need to move fast, if they want to resurrect and even keep this mall open for that matter. For now it's like a private shopping experience and it's kind of sad. The ghost of what America once was. Times change and I guess America needs to get with the program and figure something out for these old malls. I give it a 4 for the ghostly memories of the good old 1980s and 1990s.

Once upon a time the people of the earth used to consume or toss away good items into the trash but now..... the only thing that limits what you can use from this store is your imagination. I used to work for another location in the city and cannot call them a kind or generous employer, in fact there, they really stink in that department but the second hand offereings on pennies for a dollar are just waiting there to be discovered.
