A favorite spot of mine in downtown Buffalo, the Ellicott Square Building is especially pretty at Christmastime with decorations and a beautiful, majestic tree. Built in 1896 in just one year, it was one of the anchor buildings in what was once a dusty town called New Amsterdam, now Buffalo. Gorgeous brass doors and warm wood decorate the elevators. The beautiful tiled floor (23 million pieces!) laid out to represent sun symbols around the world. I wonder about all the lives of people who've crossed these floors - or danced on them at parties -for nearly 130 years. Scenes from the movie The Natural were filmed in this building and the atrium is used for event space and political announcements. To see the soaring atrium of steel and delicate filigree and curve of the graceful stairwells is an experience. I wish it were better cleaned; it was dusty and the floor needs a gentle scrub (thus loses a star). We simply sat, immersed in history, and enjoyed our beef on weck sandwiches we bought from a vendor in the atrium and made friends with the security dog Mercedes. She knows a soft touch when she sees one!

Stopped at the Holiday Artistans Show, to check out the area local vendors. I like to support local, depending on products offered, quality, cost, customer service. Great selection of vendors for a middle of week event. If your into natural remedies Apple Cider, or looking for healthy alternatives for pets google Pickle Annies. Local lovely lady, being using her pickle juice for leg cramps at night, works wonders along with other natural benefits. If you love pickles that taste like pickles, try hers, it will make you think rwice on store bought.

The Ellicott Square Building was one of the first buildings we made a point to see back in the days before we lived here and came to visit for Sabres games. Buffalo has so many architectural gems and this is certainly one.

If this were a really amazing food court, we might congratulate it, by saying "Well Done, Galleria…read moreFood Court!" Unfortunately it's not. It's the kind of food court that makes you want to run and hide. In your den. Inside your wall. Your Wall-Den. Generally speaking a food court will always score 3 or 4. They have good selections, decent prices, and a few decent places mixed in with a few not-so-decent places. The Walden Galleria, once upon a time, was no different. Unfortunately things have changed. They have completely re-vamped the mall and a lot of more upscale shops have moved in. It's more pricey in general now, and the eating focus is on the external, attached restaurants such as PF Changs (ughh) and Texas De Brazil (yumm) and Cheesecake Factory (shrug), and so on. The Food Court is about 30% as big as I remember it. Most of the food is long gone. There are 10 places to choose from now at most, and a couple of them look closed down. The Japanese food tastes good (the Teriyaki), the Greek food is poor, the Crepes I haven't tried yet, but one thing that the whole food court has in common is that it's not as cheap as most food courts. If you combine that with the lack of choice, then it's really hard for me to give this court anything more than the rating that a Kangaroo Court would get. Having said that I love Kangaroos, so I can't imagine giving Kangaroos anything less than 5/5. And now I'm confused. Let me hop off here and try and figure it out. I need to bounce some ideas off a friend. I need to borrow a pen. Oh wait let me see if there is one in my pouch. I am not a professional food critic yet, but I am definitely a wallaby food critic. And I may not be a pro, but I am koala than a lot of the pros.

Its a large space on the second floor of the mall. The vendors are on the outside, with chairs and seating areas inside. When I have been in the eating area has been well maintained. Even when people don't clear their own tables, a mall employee does it quickly. The tables have been wiped down when I was there. Also, its not too loud here. The tables are not on top of each other, and overall the space is well designed and sound well managed. There are restrooms near this area which have been clean when I have been there as well. There are a number of sit down and table service restaurants in this area as well. Id come here again. The food court has something for everyone: Arby's Charley's Steakery Easy Wok Mr. Smoothie Nick Charlap's Ice Cream Orazio's Italian Crepes Oyishi Japan Salsarita's Sbarro- The Italian Eatery Subway Mr. Souvlaki

A curtain to hide without having a door to go through (awkward with a stroller) and a curved glass block wall to let in light. Great. The rest of the mall is nice, clean, easy to get around with lots of store. This place is huge. Dave and Busters is fun. escalators are pretty easy to find (again the stroller). Bathrooms were clean and can accommodate many. Good variety at the food court. Large parking lot surrounding the entire mall with many entrances. Easy access from the highway, dedicated entrance from the I-190.

Fast forward to today and it is still a cool place AND most importantly, it still is open with a bunch of new stores. I think what makes this mall special is the collection of things it has in and around it. The restaurants here are all really good if you need any ideas for dinner. The stores are all good size and there's a movie theater. That's my main reason I have been there a lot recently. It is a huge mall and they're open early for folks just to walk around before stores opening. There really is something for everyone at this mall and I am glad it's still open and continuing to keep improving with new stores opening up.

Horsefeathers market has been on my list to checkout for 2 years now but I hadn't been until today…read more I regret not checking this out sooner, they feature awesome vendors that I hadn't heard of until today, and many will have me coming back. Enter through the Normal St entrance. The ground floor has a restaurant, and there were two tables setup- one for Blue Table Chocolates with their amazing truffles (and yes they offer free samples!), and Green Heron Growers which has coolers of meat, some frozen soups to go, maple syrup, maple jerky, and more. There are two stairways and you can take either to get downstairs. I don't know if there's an elevator. Downstairs there's a few more vendors, but not as many as I had hoped, which is why I'm only giving them 4 stars. There was: - The Rogue Cellar (vegan international bake goods) - Dharna Kombucha - Overwinter coffee (pour over and beans) - a jewelry table - a soap table - Pastry by Camille (macaroons and donuts) Dharna kombucha was delicious and they offer samples too. I left with a bottle of the Rosemary Orange after trying it, so good! There were also samples out on the Rogue Cellar Table, and I left with a pop tart and their whiskey salted caramels- both amazing! Stopped by the Overwinter coffee table and it was neat watching them make my pour over coffee, and it tasted delicious too! Also got chocolates from Blue Table (upstairs) and shiitake-barley soup from Green Heron Growers (upstairs). Everything I got today will have me coming back for more! I highly recommend stopping by next Saturday and checking them out for yourself!
