My garage door spring snapped just after I had dropped the kids off to school, and my car was stuck in the garage and I badly needed to get it out by the end of the day, so I could get them home, but was unable to get the garage door open. So I reached out to a bunch of places on Yelp. Matt was one of the few who responded quickly and agreed to do the work for a fair price. He was nice, fun to talk to, and didn't mind me staying to observe while he did the work. However, as soon as he came, he said that I would have to change the rollers and the drums (because they were worn out). I was hesitant, but he was persistent and explained to me that my garage door was noisy because of that (and because there was no insulation on the door). So I agreed. Suddenly, the price went up by $400! When I exclaimed at the high price, he agreed to give me a discount. Since my repairs were covered by my Home Warranty (up to a reasonable amount), I also mentioned that they may not cover the drums and the rollers, but he said he would talk to them and make sure they covered everything. When he removed the drums, he showed me where they were worn out and why they needed to be replaced, he also showed me the nylon rollers that he was putting in and they did look to be better. During the job, his son also came to help him, which was nice (father/son working together). They replaced the springs and when I checked the work, the new drums were rubbing against the wall, so he agreed to redo it. Once it was all done, he gave me the receipt and was off. The next day, insurance called me to say they would only cover a portion of the payment (because rollers and drums are not covered). So I asked them to speak with Matt, which they did. At the end of the day, I still landed up having to spend $100 out of pocket. I'm sure Matt has been doing this a long time, so it would have been nice for him to be upfront about the fact that insurance usually don't cover these things. I would call Matt again if I had any issues with my garage door, but I hope he's done a good enough job that I don't need to... :-) read more

We have a standard hinged 16x7 metal garage door (Clopay 150S) on our town home. Our door was badly misaligned due to the winding cable having come off the cable drum. In a rush to get our son to his Saturday soccer game, I closed the door by disconnecting the winding cable on the other side. This allowed the door to come down, but left it jammed in the down position. I called MC Garage Doors at 9:15 AM, and the owner, Matthew, said he could be there in 2 hours. When we returned from the soccer game at 11AM, he was already at our house waiting along with his right hand daughter, Natalie. Realignment of the door required re-engaging the motor to lift the top 3/4 so that the bottom 1/4 section could be adjusted. This sounds simple, but was about 60 min of engaging the motor, moving rollers, removing hinges, banging hinge pins back in place, and hammering the warped track true. He then replaced the worn manufacturer rollers using nylon rollers with bearings. Garage operation is quieter now. The cables and drums on both sides were inspected, finding no faults. The cables were rewound onto the drums. The recently installed springs (SPB-218-24-75) were diagnosed as too strong for the door. A new pair of springs (207-26-3/4) were installed and the garage door was tested for balance, alignment, and fit with the motor and sensors. Not happy with the warping of certain sections of the door, Matthew reshaped some of the metal to get the door to close smoothly. Repair completed by 1PM. There are a lot of garage door repair outfits out there. MC Garage is operated by a competent, professional, and courteous owner local to the area. As someone familiar with the construction trade, you hold onto the cards of honest contractors. This is a card worth keeping. read more
