Recently we saw some bugs in our garage, and after researching online, we found that it could be due to the bottom seal of our garage door no longer closing completely (leaving tiny gaps where the bugs can crawl under to enter our garage area). The owner (John) came to our home on time, and he was very honest in giving us the different options, considering the age of our garage door (19 years old). Twenty years ago, my wife and I installed a GENIE EXCELERATOR, series II garage door opener. It held up well over the years. However, like all things mechanical, they eventually wear out and break down. Yesterday I went to open the garage door with the remote, and it would only open a foot and stop. I tried it several times, with the same results. I called Genie, hoping they could give me a quick fix. Unfortunately, they were no help. Consequently, I went to Yelp and started looking for a garage door servicing company, and came upon "No Shortcut Garage Doors" with a five-star rating with over 250 reviews. I called them, and John, the owner, arrived about 20 minutes later. I explained the issue, and he began investigating it. Within minutes after inspection, he told me the lift adjustment was maxed out, and the motor had seen its last days. He also pointed out that one of the hinges on the door was broken, and a couple of others were not within spec for proper door operation. He offered me the Lift Master brand with a built-in video camera, door sensors, a wall control button, one remote, a backup battery in the event of a power outage, and a phone app with either chain-driven or belt-driven. I opted for the belt-driven since it was quieter. John quoted me a price which I thought was fair, I accepted it, and he went to work immediately, taking down the old Genie and putting up the new Lift Master Model 6580. He also replaced the broken hinge, replaced the others with the correct ones, and adjusted the coil spring, rebalancing the door. When he finished, he took the old motor and track. And they were at home ready to fix the door by noon working with me to schedule the time as per my availability.
