I noticed that several people entered after us without a mask and the guard was very polite to them and provided them with masks. The representative who assisted was professional and was able to help. We were told that the Social Security card we were requesting would arrive within two weeks and were given a document to verify we had submitted the application. I was very impressed with the professionalism of everyone there. We were in and out in less than a half of an hour. However, we noticed as we left that the crowd in the waiting room was growing.

Space wise in this office isn't really as big just like 9 computers with employees. Some of them are empty and it's depends on how fast each transaction is with each person they are dealing with. I waited like probably less than or almost an hour for mine and the transaction is pretty straight forward so it only took me like 10 mins max and I was able to leave the place. Dealing with the Boston SSN office has been the nightmare that never ends. I got married in August…read moreand knew I had upcoming travel in October with my new name on my plane ticket. I was told that the process of getting a new card would be faster if I went in person, which I did (and spent hours waiting). I sent in my application on August 27th, the one day I had in between the wedding and the honeymoon, blissfully unaware of the saga that was to come. Fast forward to September 25th and I call back because I have not received my card. They tell me that if my NEW name isn't on my mailbox, the USPS won't deliver my SSN card. This a vitally important piece of information that would have been helpful to know when I applied. Alas, they tell me that they can reapply on my behalf because it's been less than 30 days (29 to be exact and thank god I counted myself because originally, they told me it was past the 30 day time frame). So, I reapplied and then waited. And waited. My travel date came and went and luckily, Amex was kind enough to change my name on my plane ticket free of charge (leave it to the for-profit companies to get anything productive accomplished). I got home and kept waiting. On 10/24 (today), I called back to ask where my card was. The woman said that it should have been delivered on October 8th. I tell her that it was not and that my name was clearly listed on the mailbox as I'd been instructed to do. She said she had no answers for me. It could have been twice delivered to the wrong address (interesting since originally I was told it couldn't possibly be delivered to a mailbox without my NEW name on it), it could have been twice returned back to the SSN office, it could be lost in outer-space, the possibilities as to where these cards could be were endless in her opinion. With that, I asked her if I could simply rescind my entire application and keep my old name. "Nope, it's already been changed on the back end, so you have to come back in and start the process over in order to move forward in getting a card." You cannot make this stuff up. So they TWICE messed up in getting me my card even though I perfectly followed the process and did everything I was told to do. Yet, this now falls on me to resolve and I will now need to take more time off work to go back to the office and re-apply for another card in person. AND they still cannot confirm why the original two cards never made it and have zero plan for how to mitigate this situation. The best she could do was pass me on to her supervisor, a line that was picked up by an answering machine stating that said woman would be on vacation until October 1st. It is October 24th. Perhaps she is missing in outerspace along with my cards. This, ladies and gents is the US government at its finest. My advice to engaged women: keep your maiden name if you value your time, your life, your sanity...

At the time of the takeover, I cashed out my 401(k) because there was not much in it. Taxes were taken out of the check and I received a 1099-R from State Street. Fast forward to this year and the IRS sends me a letter saying that my measly little check was reported to them as a hefty check and that I owed them a bunch of money for taxes. HUH? I call my old employer (who was awesome!) and they tell me I have to contact the retiree services directly. That's where State Street comes in. I called State Street and the first operator takes the information, places me on hold for a little wait and comes back to tell me she has no record of the company and there's nothing she can do for me. SAY WHAT??? There's no way I'm paying the IRS a bunch of cash for your mistake. I call back, explain this to another operator (Susan Davenport) and she diligently tried to help me figure out what's going on and who to direct me to that will resolve this mystery. Where's Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated when you need them? Hey, if something weird is gonna happen, it's gonna happen to me (and then I write a funny play about it)!! How exciting!! Stay tuned for updates. I'm sure the mystery will be solved (and the monster in the rubber mask will turn out to be my old boss. *smile*). Turns out that the department that once handled our account is no longer in existence, but there is a group that has taken over those accounts. Douglas was on the ball and sorted out the whole mess. For some reason, my cash was in two separate accounts. They sent two checks - one to my mailing address and one to an old address. I got the little check, but not the big one. Because the account is so old, I have to jump through some hoops to update address, get a password, stop payment on the old check and issue a new one, but the great news is there's a huge check out there with my name on it!!

I did not get one last year either and hard to remember how I did get it. I did reach a man and he said on a recorded line to call your former employer. I went back to the former employer and tried to sign in but now the password which I wrote down did not work. The end I locked myself out of the tool to get my 1099-R and it will be a week before they can reset it by sending me a new pin. You would think the IRS would buckle down on these companies when it is the law for them to mail these 1099-R's and they are not. If you make a mistake, I am sure they won't be so nice to you.

The judge made it clear court hours are 8:30-4:30 and he was making sure we served an entire 8 hour shift. When 4:30 came I was still in jury check-in room which was locked from the outside. I had to call 2 times to get someone to let me out. Finally court officer came and said judge would like to see you. I explained to judge of situation of family member who was in hospital and failure to thrive. Judge finally dismissed me at 5PM. Courthouse was empty. No clerks. No employees. No security. As I left I got call person hard passed away. I absolutely hate this place. I hope the judge and court employees burn in hell.

I wouldn't want to be in that area without a direct line to 911. I could understand T-Mobile Sidekicks, but REALLY! And they have no storage for cellphones -- I had to walk all the way back to Forest Hills and convince a convenience store clerk to hold it behind the counter. Even "The Price is Right" studios in Los Angeles holds onto your phones if you bring them into complex! The metal detectors were first-rate, and the x-ray machine was extremely accurate, but I would have preferred some of the people taking a second stroll through the machines. :( The court clerk was very pleasant, and dismissed my parking ticket within 30 seconds. I've had to call in a few 911 things over the last few months and these guys were at my location in no time at all. This really makes me feel safe. I live in a 'up and coming' area, that means the prices are sky high but you could still get shived on your way home. We have had several community meetings with area police representatives and they have been very serious about enforcing public safety in my area. My favorite 911 one scenario was about a week ago when my wife was walking the dog and she walked right past a hooker (well, she certainly looked like one at least - could have been a tranny hooker - who knows - doesn't matter) doing umm indecent and very disgusting (and slurpy sounding) things to a rather overweight gentleman in a dark car with its stereo blaring in a parking spot next to our house. She got geeked, called the cops and they were there literally in about 3 minutes. I didnt peep my head out the door long enough to hear the explanation but i'm sure it was comedy gold.
