It's mediocre. It's a trash dive bar and sadly the only gay bar around. The bar itself is very small and it's very very dark. I personally don't feel safe there. They occasionally do block parties but even those feel cheap. There's really no reason to go other than to meet people. Not for me. read more

The bar is beneficial for the LGBTQIA++ Worcester community but needs some serious love and repairs. Bathroom locks don't work for example and have been broken for years. Extremely uncomfortable when you are repeatedly walked in on. They allow too many people in during events, it isn't worth it to go anymore. Every drink is spilled by someone trying to squeeze by or it's basically empty. The bartenders are great, specifically Matt and Keith , but it is too much for just them to handle. They are overdue for a new space and more staff , it would be a game changer. They need to step it up with new competitors (Femme) opening in February just a few blocks away. read more

This is my favorite gay bar in New England. The staff is incredible and Keith and Marco truly succeed in making this such a welcoming environment. If you visit more than one time they will remember you and go out of their way to say hello, welcome you back, and make you feel right at home. Hope to visit again soon. Sad really. What was once a progressive disco (opened in August of 1974) has become basicaly a dive bar. Rivaling Boston's Eagle, but eithout its pathetic quaint charm. Sadder still...it still hosts some of it's former patrons of that bygone era. No longer a prominate fixture on Main Street of this decrepid city, The Male Box now resides (lies in state?) in a run down section of Worcester ironically connected to Fairway Beef, ( the closest way this place could ever be deemed a meat rack), and adjacent to Union Station. I suppose to make a quick escape. Prices are reasonable, if only to get you in the door, but even that isnt enough to keep you around. I shed a tear for the MB, the Ports O' Call, and Issiahs. This place is so under rated. My friends and I stopped by after and every at union station and we had a blast. They said usually this place is empty but the place was poppin' last night. Great bartender, fast service, fun music, and awesome people. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I told my friends that every time they go to mailbox, they better invite me! What a dump, and an embarrassment to the gay community. First the decor looks like the 80's threw up and not in a tasteful way. Bad faux marble over wood- horrible. Second, the bartender Andy, ya know the one that looks like a busted ninja turtle, was rude and had a short tone. I further don't feel good using the term bartender when he doesn't know how to make a martini. Third, the atmosphere just sucked, what should be a busy night it was dead. There aren't any pics posted by anyone for this bar which supposedly has been there forever - for a reason. Mine is the 2nd review for this bar, despite it's existence forever - again, for a reason.... I am giving M B Lounge (wonder why they don't call it Male Box - so much more fun!) a 1 star because I know I will be going back there again (my best friends moved into the area and I will be visiting them often). And hopefully the next time I do - I will have something positive to update and change the rating (it can either go up or stay the same from here on!). So here goes it - frame by frame - cut by cut! Entrance: for a bar to have an entrance like this place does, it could be for one of the following reasons. It is trying to disguise itself from anyone knowing about it's existence for some strange reason. Or for it to earn a reputation as possibly the cheapest bar in town - so cheap they cannot afford a name sign / board that is noticeable from the side walk. Not sure what to make of it. But when we got off from our cab, I was like - you sure this is the bar? Anyways. We went inside because my friends had raved about this place a lot and I was not yet ready to judge this book by its cover. Inside: the bar gave a strange illusion about being a huge place simply because of the fact that it had 5 small square tables with 4 chairs each - spread across the entire space and it was pitch dark with green laser lights interspersed with lights reflecting off of a disco ball in the far end of the bar. That it was virtually empty at 9:30pm on a Saturday night just showed how small the place was. Not that I can imagine a crowd of 100 ever collecting here but if by any chance it did, there would be stampede and I would be the first one to escort myself and my peeps out of there. The bar - one long bar (and don't fall prey to the word long - it had 6 bar stools!) squeezed to the left wall - again was put in there with the goal to make the place look big. The fact is - this is literally a hole in the wall kind of a place. Music: one thing which I consider when I recommend a bar to a friend or a foe - it's the music. I had no idea (nor my friends or the few people who were at the bar) about what kind of loud music was blaring from the bar as soon as we entered. After 15 mins of playing nice, I asked the bartender do you guys have a DJ or a juke box? "No juke box and I am the DJ". To which I asked can you play so and so song? "No. It's my iPod and it's a playlist from pandora I can't change". I am Speechless! Why the 1 star? Drinks are cheap. But again, I'm not in London or Sydney. The patio as it claims to call the back of the bar to be, stunk of fowl odor coming from the trash cans on the other side of the wall (possibly 10 of them - that's how bad it was) every time the wind blew on the fab summer night. One of my friends already was witness to someone being thrown out of the bar for exposing himself after being totally trashed. As I said - I am hopeful the next time I return, things might be different (fingers crossed) and I will have something great to update. Till then - I recoup despite no hangover (I had 2 drinks during the 3 plus hours at the bar. Something was just not right!). read more

Great place to go with friends or to strike up a friendly conversation with the "residents." All of the bartenders are very friendly, fairly cheap beer, and there is a pool table. The Friday night bartender also does a great job at video-DJing. It seems that Friday nights always tend to busy or at least the few times I went. read more

Had a blast when I was there. The bartender changed the music when I politely asked and we had a blast dancing to disco music. Mark, the owner, was a sweetheart and was very welcoming to us out of towners. This is totally my kind of place and I would come here for aure if I lived here. Nice neighborhood bar. read more

MB lounge is a perfect little gay Dive bar. It's conveniently located near downtown Worchester with off street parking across the street under an overpass. Bar seating as well as table seats with an off street smoking area access in back of bar. Service is friendly, it's a great place to have a drink on your way home from work or spend all night into the early AM. Drink prices are cheaper than Boston prices but average for the area. Being a traveling person I always enjoy stopping at MB Lounge when I'm staying in Worchester! read more

I'm local to Worcester. I have been coming to this gay club/bar for months to almost a year. Every visit is a down hill spiral. I was here during the Christmas party of 2019. They had free food. I ordered a glass of water to drink with the food, and they refused and charged me $2 for a non-refill bottled water when I already ordered drinks at the bar. Then during the New Years Eve party, I ordered 1 shot for each of my friends and myself. They didn't have the ball drop on the TV screens. People seem down so I asked literally EVERYONE in the club what music they would like to hear to kick off the year 2020. Almost everyone said 1990's music. I suggest that to the DJ and the manager/owner of the bar comes and asks my friends and I to leave. I am NEVER going back to this gay bar again. I did nothing wrong, and I was peaceful, but asked to leave when I made a slight suggestion to the DJ. They only care for the money they make from the drinks. Clubs in Boston are better anyways. I will be spending my money there for now on. Don't go to MB Lounge. They don't care about their guests and their interests. I have no guilt if they go out of business because they do not cater to their population which is what it seems like from the amount of people that go here. I would give zero stars if it was an option, but I'm stuck with 1 star. read more

This is the only gay bar in the area. Karaoke is always a good time and their events are fun also. You will find an older crowd on heir slower nights. The drinks are reasonably priced and people are generally friendly. read more

Me and two friends came in for a couple of drinks around 1am on a Wednesday night. The place had probably 6 or 7 other people inside. We took a seat a the bar and waited for the bartender......and waited......and waited........and waited a little more. Finally the bartender comes over and takes our orders which only two of us were drinking. Maybe he had a long day or was just tired idk but he just wasn't very welcoming or friendly at all. We had 1 drink and headed out. Now I'm not a very impatient person, or at least I don't think so. I know the bartenders are busy and can't rush over just because we walk in the door. However, in this instance the bar was basically dead. All 6 people who were there when we walked in already had a drink and a few were getting ready to leave. The bartender was standing in front of the closest person to where we sat down at but just walked away as soon as we sat down. We started chatting figuring someone else had flagged him down just before we walked in or maybe just remembered he had to do something. However he just walked over and stood in front of the 2 or 3 people were a little further down the bar. He didn't mix a drink, refill a mug, or anything just stood there and got into whatever conversation they were having. After about maybe 4 or 5 minutes he then came over to ask our drink orders. I just think it was completely unacceptable. The drinks were not great but they weren't terrible. I ordered the White Martinit, which I don't think he knew out to make because he looked at some notebook after I asked him then went up to I assume the owner or at least another worker and he rattled off some ingredients that I'm pretty sure were for the drink. He may have been new, idk. For my first time this was not at all a good experience but I'll give this place another try on different night and see how it is. If its the same then I guess I'll just have to stick with the straight bars seeing as though there are very few if any other options as far as gay bars at least. Also, there is $15 minimum when using a card. I personally think that's ridiculously high especially for this not being that big of a town or bar. read more

I've never wanted to openly weep in a nightclub. Turning the bad music up louder and releasing stinky steam doesn't help. If your bar is dead Saturday night at 11pm and there hasn't been anyone but two loud screeching straight girls on your dance floor all night, maybe it's time for a game change. Bad music, creepy dive feeling, and depressing. The lighting system was good at one thing, blinding you by flashing in your eyes repeatedly. Even knocking back drinks didn't help. And they were skunked. If this was a house party I would have lost friends. I think the only reason people even come here is because it's the last gay bar in Worcester. The only people having fun are the ones in the back courtyard or the parking lot smoking pot. It's midnight on a Saturday, there are three people here. It feels like either they all work there or they are the same three people that are there every week. No pool table, and annoying blinding lights and music nobody has ever heard of. The front of the building is covered in ham sale signs for the butcher shop next door. The final straw was having to scream the four inches to the person I was with so they could hear me. Did someone forget to pay the heating bill? I regret the drive. Skip it. I've been here before and it's usually either divey or slow, but this was the worst. Believe me, I know gay bars are a dieing breed and I want them to stick around but at least show a molecule of effort. This is the only gay bar in a major city in the most liberal state in the union and it's dead- you're not doing something right. But if you do get stuck going there, the diner directly across the parking lot is great. read more
