I had a lot of confidence in Andrew's knowledge about our car, in spite of it being an older 2002 model. I was bummed that one part was special order so that we couldn't get the car back that day but Andrew surprised us by making it happen and it was such a relief to be able to have the car over the weekend! He steam cleaned the engine, which was a mess from the leak, and it looks like new. He also had the exterior washed, which seems like the exception to the rule these days, but it was so appreciated. Andrew was very accomodating for a quick turn change on a car part that was failing the smog test. However he did not consider my specific request for an OEM part and used an alternative which I think was surprising in a not so good way. Also my car ended up getting back the check engine light within 20 miles of driving out after their expensive fixes, albeit with an alternate code, and a different mechanic said that some of the damage related to teh code he was seeing could very well be the mis-handling of parts from MB Garage technicians. read more

This is a long overdue review for Andrew who helped me out when I was in a jam last year. Let me preface by saying I don't usually leave reviews, and I hate dealing with mechanics to the point where I only lease my cars. But doing business with Andrew has made me reconsider that. He's just that good. The tread on my 2021 run flats had just hit the point of starting to get low, and because the Bay Area is pothole galore when it rains, my tire blew out right away. This was in the middle of a workweek so I didn't want to be without my car for too long. Autobahn didn't have the tires in stock, so I called around the usual places, with everyone saying it was going to take a while. I even took my car in to someone who assured me they could take care of it, but ordered the wrong tires, pushed back the delivery time, and then changed their quote and tried to charge me more than the dealership. I found Andrew right after this, and explained how I'd already lost a few days. He took it in stride and got right on it! Got the tires in the same day, and returned my car within a few hours, washed and vacuumed. Instead of trying to gouge me like the other places, he gave me a great deal! The kicker is I was between two brands and ended up going with the one that was more expensive. The difference wasn't much, but after paying I noticed he'd accidentally charged for the wrong tires. When I brought it up to him and offered to make up the difference, he chose, instead, to honor the lower price. That's the kind of class act that makes Andrew stand out. 10/10, I'd recommend him in a heartbeat. read more

As a Turo power host, it's imperative to have my cars running in top condition and well maintained. Not only is it important to have my cars repaired quickly to reduce a loss of income, but it's also a necessity for them to be serviced by the best to keep them in peak performance! When my CLA250 needed a complicated transmission repair I searched for a knowledge, honest and transparent mechanic. My local Autobahn dealership service center wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount for the repair and pigeon hole me into servicing with them by not selling me the part. Andrew did a truly incredible job on my 2001 ML 430 resurrection project SUV. I brought the car into him hardly running and he never flinched at making sure the car was able to run correctly and help me sort out vanity fixes from true mechanical issues. At my request, Andrew drove the car to and from work (not exactly the most luxurious ride considering its 21 years old) and found and saved a near-catastrophic engine pump failure. I usually don't write reviews but word needs to get out about this awesome place. The shop is very clean and organized. Andrew went above and beyond. I went in thinking I need to get cv joints replaced and after being inspected by Andrew he said nothing is wrong and said everything seems ok. Even though he spent time and energy on my car he did not charge me at all. He even noticed my remote battery was dying and offered to get me one at no cost. Now a days it's hard to find an honest and genuine repair shop. I feel really comfortable that I can bring my car in and it will taken care of. Andrew at MB Garage goes above and beyond any mechanic I've ever worked with. The day I learned this, my family and I were driving down Interstate 880 on a Saturday morning, making our way to Tahoe. While going 60 mph, I heard a "pop", my Mercedes R350 jerked down, and I saw I bit of smoke coming out of the back of the car. For a second, I let everything ride, not sure what would happen next. Thankfully... nothing. But we slowed down and exited the highway. In West Oakland, of all places. We drove a few blocks to a relatively non-sketchy street, popped open Yelp, and found the only mechanic open within five miles. (Not MB Garage, a different place.) I slowly drove the car there. Once there, the mechanic said that my right rear suspension strut had blown out. That's what had gone "pop" on the highway. Now, Andrew at MB Garage had just replaced this. I left a voicemail on his shop's phone number, not expecting to hear back. Instead, I got a call back from Andrew within five minutes. He was going to meet me at the garage in West Oakland, and help the guy out with the repair. Which he did, once we Uber'd over to a Starbucks in Emeryville to pass the time. Once the repair was done, Andrew drove our car to Emeryville to come get us. He then drove back to the shop, hopped out, and covered the cost with the mechanic. He took total responsibility for what had happened. He covered the labor costs and said that he'd return the defective strut to the wholesaler and get reimbursed for it. How many times have you seen a mechanic as honest and responsible as that? Awesome. If there was a sixth star on Yelp, I'd give it to Andrew. read more

This is an update to a previous review since ownership changed to Andrew, current owner. It really comes down to this, Andrew is 'good people' and he knows his stuff better than most. It's hard these days to find a good mechanic who really knows their stuff and doesn't mind spending some time with you. I have been to the shop numerous times and even dropped off a car with night drop off hours since I was heading out on a business trip the next day. Andrew has serviced my wife's 2009 CLK550, my former 2012 E63 AMG and I plan to bring my old W108 down soon so he can help me troubleshoot some engine issues & a minor leak. Probably the top of most people's list is price. I've always found Andrew's pricing to be very fair & competitive and he doesn't skimp on non-OEM parts unless they are no longer available. Second, you want someone who knows their craft. I've taken my Porsches to a master Porsche mechanic and I take our Mercedes to Andrew because his knowledge of Mercedes is incredible. I'm just one of those that doesn't want to take my Benz to someone who has a team of mechanics servicing numerous types of European cars and in many cases those mechanics are not long-term employees. Took my MB here after getting scammed by 2 other mechanics. He was able to fix an oil leak and replace a thermostat. It's too bad the noise it's making couldn't be fixed but he tried. I'm starting to think after 3 mechanics couldn't fix that problem I should just leave it alone. Anyways, the shop is clean, the price is expensive but I guess that's what to be expected with a MB. I brought my newly acquired classic 1991 Mercedes Benz 350 SDL to MB Garage for its first 100k service, and to get it checked over after I purchased the car out of state. Janet and her team provided great service, and a charming loaner car named "Mr Bill" (a 300E) for me to use while my car was in the shop for 2+ days. They really know 80s and 90s Mercedes diesels and the various idiosyncrasies these older cars can exhibit. Not all shops do, which can end up costing owners extra money for incorrectly diagnosed issues and solutions. MB Garage was recommended to me by several Mercedes Benz forums, including the Mercedes Benz Club of America. I had to take it down one star. I mean I trust this place enough to rebuild my transmission and engine on my vintage wagon. Thank goodness it was not at the same time. The work has been great except that I smelled oil dripping onto a manifold somewhere. It gets naseauting during a long stop light. I brought it in and complained 3 times about it, and on the 3rd visit for a service, they did notice something but it was still unfixed. If it was just me driving, then I wouldn't mind as sometimes, that's the price of driving vintage or classic cars. However, I have a toddler in the car, and I didn't want to expose him to noxious fumes. I mean it is my choice to keep one petrol car in our biodiesel family fleet. I ended up moving my family further up North, and we found another shop who immediately knew what it was. Unfortunately, I had to pay when it should have been under warranty. It was worth the price at the other shop to stop the smell. In MB Garage's defense, the issue was a badly set new gasket (when the top end was rebuilt). It is common to happen if one doesn't use the special MB tool. read more

And a smiley face :) My baby benz Sadie had a grand ole time at MB Garage for her Service B appointment (yes, my car is a girl). Janet gave me a rundown of what was to come and was so accommodating that when I dropped my car off at 8am, I was able to pick her up during my lunch hour. Talk about awesome! Sadie's running like new and Janet gave her a stamp of approval. Plus I get a free Ducky's Car Wash (if you know me well enough you'd know how much I LOOOOVE DUCKY'S - however, I will save this sentiment for a separate review of Ducky's). So, overall, I've had a great experience and can foresee a long, happy life with Sadie. Janet made me feel at ease about Benz-related issues and explained important automobile things that otherwise I would feel intimidated about. That kind of customer service is priceless.
