I absolutely love this place! Their lentil soup is delicious, and falafel is cool too. Highly recommended!

Low key ambiance with great food and friendly staff. I love the hummus and chicken kebab platter. Highly recommended! read more

Mazzat - Tapas Bars Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

The food is seriously good, and we eat at similar places in Cobble Hill all the time. This place definitely rivals the best. We got a fattoush salad with extra lamb, and the meat was perfectly cooked and delicious. I also had the vegetarian platter and tried some other mezze, like bulgar wheat and foul medames. Excellent! They have a good beer selection and the prices are pretty good. I will definitely be back. The atmosphere is pleasant and it would be a great place to take a group. read more

Mazzat, located in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, is just about our favorite tapas style restaurant of all. We've now been there several times and it has never failed to deliver on food quality, service and ambience. My only criticism at all was that they were out of a wine on their list one night, but it was there the next time we returned three days later. By the way, that Nereo Devola red was excellent. You can get a full range of Middle Eastern style food here as well as the tapas selection. If you are in town from out of NYC, this is worth the drive or cab ride. read more

wanted to stop by because i saw it as i walked by but left immediately because the waitors were so rude they just ignore you and if you don't respond quickly to them they get even more attitude. i wish i could tell you the food was amazing but unfortunately was so turned off I went next door to the Lum restaurant which was way better and nicer workersless racist and sexist. read more

Went for date night with my sweetly. He passed this place many times so we decide to check it out. The food was good and the vibe was chill. We had fresh hummus, chicken Cigars, chicken kabobs and grill salmon. We love spicy food, so the food lacked a kick but it was definitely worth it. Check it out! read more

I've been coming here since it opened and sadly, it's really gone downhill in the past year. I went last night and both my husband & I got sick. I knew I was in trouble when the appetizer of Brussels sprouts came completely saturated in cooking oil, I should've sent them back but was starved and ate them anyway. The lamb shank was overcooked and so salty it was ridiculous, my husband's cheeseburger was no better. I've had the lamb shank multiple times before and it had always been delicious, last night's was awful. The place was packed so I didn't send anything back which was my first mistake. Eating everything was my second. I called the owner this afternoon to tell him about it (third mistake) and he was rude and didn't listen to me, telling me that those "dishes are very popular and they sell a lot of them" I told him that I wanted to let him know rather than post a bad review but he could have cared less, even when I explained that we are regulars and know how good the food used to be. Because of his attitude and how awful our meal was last night we won't be going back. It's a real shame considering we live nearby and it's a convenient spot. Mazzat get your act together, this neighborhood won't tolerate sub-par food and a rude owner, there are plenty of other options in walking distance. I love the bartender, she's great and obviously knows something's up as she asked us multiple times if our meal was OK. I should have told her the truth, but they were all so overwhelmed and I really just wanted to get out of there. I'm bummed to be posting this and I'm bummed the place has gone so downhill, but not even listening and no apology? I'm done. read more

I've lived a few block from this place for the better half of a decade and yet have go here, until now. The place is almost always empty but they do offer delivery so perhaps that's where the bulk of their business is. Still the space is large, very clean, and with a good ambiance. The music playing was perfect but not at all Middle Eastern, nor was our Australian waiter, but he was perfect so I didn't mind. The food is very well prepared and seems from my little experience to be authentic. The menu is comprised by a great deal of small tapas but also has a big selection of entrees, sandwiches, salads, and more. My fiance and I split 5 tapas and a dessert. With a couple drinks, tax, and tip, this worked out to about $75ish (most tapas were in the $6-9 range). We found the portions to be pretty small for the price and I certainly wasn't stuffed when I was leaving but was satisfied. The hummus was perfect as was the falafal. The Kibbett (ground/minced lamb balls with spices and pine nuts) for $7 for 2 small pieces was a bit of a let down for value but still they were delicious. For dessert we got this warm pumpkin pastry with a scoop of ice cream and this was amazing. It's definitely worth going just for this. We'll definitely be coming back but perhaps next time we'll be going with straight entrees to see how the portions compare. read more

Perfect local spot: pleasant and quiet inside and the food very good indeed -- including star dish, the lamb shank, the Greek salad, and the Kunafa, which is what I had. read more

Sometime when I am writing a positive review, I am afraid that the place will become too crowded, and that the next time I will visit, I will have to wait too long. On the other hand, Yelp introduced me to so many nice places, that I feel obligated to share my experience, even if it will cost me a long wait. Like the reputation of the Mediterranean places, this place offer generous portions, and fresh food. We got Complimentary Tahini and Pitas. Their salad is something that you must try, and maybe even consider start and end with. They are just too good. I had a lot of Mediterranean food in many places, and you should know that it is not the easiest thing to achieve the taste of home, when you are so far from it. And Mazzat do it even there is a big distance. They really make the food taste the way good Mediterranean food should taste like. The place is nice, and the people here are friendly and know their job, but the food is the first reason to come here. So they saw me before, and they will see me more soon. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this before, because I order/go here once a week and it's my hands down favorite. Please keep them busy, you won't regret anything you order if you like middle eastern cuisine. read more

Always great lamb shank, always great ambiance, always great service. One of my faves.

Yay for the complementary pita and tahini! I also love the tapas/meze they serve here! The vegetarian sample platter is a good way taste a few of their different tapas without breaking the bank. I chose to substitute the hummus for the fava bean puree, and the waitress was more happy to accomodate my request without any extra charge. My favorite of the bunch though, was definitely the babaganoush as it is one of the best I've had! The eggplant has a subtle roasted flavor that gives it that extra something and I will definitely be back for more! We also ordered a lamb sharwarma wrap which was so addicting and satisfying! The lamb is super flavorful alone, but is also drenched in some kind of addicting sauce. Mmm.. I'm definitely coming back to try everything else! read more

The real deal!! Unpretentious, simple, authentic, very reasonably priced - by far the BEST middle-eastern food on the quality/price ratio in this part of Brooklyn ! Bravo and thank you! read more

It's a great lasting neighborhood spot, which says something about Columbia Street. Most of the places I'd hoped would stay didn't last more than two...three years max. They serve solid Mediterranean fare and a reasonable price. The place is cozy and they allow you to linger. The summer months are even prettier when they open their entrance, the entire restaurant feels like you're dining Al fresco. read more

We just tried this Columbia Street Middle Eastern restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised. We split the typical standard appetizers of hummous, babaghanouj, grape leaves, falafel and tabouleh, and all of the above were fresh and quite good, and the falafel was outstanding. The main courses, in our case lamb shak , and that most Middle Eastern of dishes, the hamburger, were solid performers, and the lamb shank was definitely falling off the bone, as it should. We will both gladly take the walk across the BQE or a bus ride on the B61 for more of Mazzat's food. It may not be ultra-fancy food, but it is very good. read more

I love the place. Took my friends and they loved the food and salad. Ate for the first time and it was delicious. Had the lamb and it was so soft that it smells like a steak. Waiter, Armando was great and of course, Jim was very accomodating in every way. Thank you and would be going back. read more

It turns out that I have a mild eggplant allergy, which I probably never would have known if it weren't for Mazzat and their seriously amazing baba ganoush. We cannot stop ordering takeout from here, and the last time we ordered baba ganoush, I could not stop eating it, despite the creeping itch in my throat. (I'm fine, everyone, don't worry, the itching subsided in an hour.) This is not Mazzat's problem, it's my own damn fault, and I accept that. But dang, that baba ganoush is good. And so is everything else. Mazzat ruined me for all other hummus and the lamb shwarma is unlike any I've ever had -- big chunks of super moist lamb with tingly, warming, North African spices. I'm so pleased to have found this place. read more

Fabulous. OK, I hate to leave this review because its going to be impossible to get a table when everyone realizes how amazing this restaurant is, but we had one of the best dining experiences in a long time at Mazzat. We live in the neighborhood, but had never tried Mazzat before. We were just wandering Columbia and decided to stop in. The service was fantastic - super welcoming and accommodating. The food was even better. We started with a variety of small plates, and the bean dip was incredible. So were the homemade pitas. We had the vegetarian sampler with hummus, babaganoush, and added the chorizo and eggplant, then the grilled chicken platter. Everything was great. We took a second grilled chicken to go to bring home to our son, who brought it to work with him for lunch and just texted me to ask where we got it because he loved it so much. Looking forward to our next experience here. read more

Having just dined at Mazzat, I am a bit disappointed with the experience. Our party of 3 arrived, after circling the neighborhood for 30 min!, to a pretty empty restaurant. There were two other parties seated and the place was eerily quiet which was weird considering that others would want to come out and dine at a place rated so well. We were tended to very quickly and after perusing the menu were a bit disappointed that there were no specialty drinks despite a full bar. Alas, we ordered and the food was "okay." We ordered the sampler with hummus, eggplant spread and salad which was simply okay. The Greek salad was mainly romaine lettuce with a few cherry tomato, two rounds of peppers and cucumbers and 3 cubes of feta. The dressing was nonexistent so I asked for some additional vinaigrette to make it palatable. The shawarma sandwiches were palatable but the french fries that came with them were sprinkled with quite a bit of black pepper. Overall, I expected more from a highly rated establishment and didn't think that the best part of the meal would be the warm pitas. read more

My husband and I came here on a recent visit to our soon-to-be new 'hood and were generally pleased. Though we only had appetizers, there were definitely some standouts: the Greek salad was absolutely delicious and came complete with big pieces of fresh feta, grape leaves, and fresh herbs. The lamb cigars, a special, were also very flavorful and moist. The service was a bit scattered, but the people were nice. Definitely want to come back for some entrees once we're living in the area! read more

Sooooo sooooooo soooooooooo good!! Awesome mediterranean food..had olives, hummus, bacon wrapped scallops, was AWESOME...then entree my husband had seafood tangine & I had a special, spicy shrimp w. Luingini..was AMAZING! Great service, great drinks..loved this place read more

Delicious food, low key, and quiet. Mazzat's food is quite good, inexpensive, and wholesome. With its simple decor and full bar, it's a great place to bring either friends or a date. Most recently, I went with a date and we just ordered a little bit of all sorts of things -- we especially liked the merguez, the spot-on hummus, and the fava beans. read more

great small plates, succulent lamb shank. can't really go wrong with lamb however. falafel were some of the best i've had. the seafood tagine was a bit strange. good flavor but tasted more like a jambalaya than a tagine. generally find tabouleh too strong but this one was juuuust right. :D wouldn't consider it a destination dine, hence the 3 stars but definitely a great neighborhood restaurant. read more

This Manhattanite has just found another one of many reasons to love Brooklyn; MAZZAT!!!! While attending the eighth Anniversary party for "The Brooklyn Collective" just two doors down, my friend Patrick and I decided to grab a bite at Mazzat and wait for the crowd to thin at the party. Upon entering this most cozy and inviting space we were struck with the simple, yet beautiful surroundings that transported us right to the Mediterranean. We chose a table in the bar, ordered a bottle of wine, two appetizers and two dinners. A great Malbac started us off on an adventure of pure delight. The stuffed grape leaves were only second to my grandmothers and the shish kabob stood alone as the best I've ever had anywhere in the world!!! Mazzat is the destination dining experience every New Yorker must make and at $35.00 per person, including the wine you'd have to be just plain crazy not to!!!! I'll be heading back again and again!!!!! read more

Mediterranean food. Nice place to order a bunch of small dishes and share. Falafel, baba ganoush, hummus, chicken cigar, dates wrapped in bacon were good. Avoid the chorizo. I love their Kunafa, shredded birds nest fillo dough w/ warm syrup and bananas topped w/ ice cream! read more

A delicious mediterranean meal regardless of what "food" site you visit. Mazzat is a great place for dates, friends or families who enjoy healthful mediterranean food. Vegetarians and meat-eaters alike have a wide variety of fresh and tasty foods. We went with our son and D-I-L last month and were not disappointed. Owner Gamal (aka- Jimmy) is a wonderful host who works relentlessly to ensure that you have a good time and great meal. Our D-I-L, a vegetarian, loved the new veggie "cigars" and delicious crunchy Brussel sprout appetizer/tapas plates and the classic Middle Eastern Platter. Order the Braised Lamb Shank and the meat falls off the bone! Stuffed grape leaves, lemon potatoes, kibbeh, tabouleh salad, babaganouj, garlic shrimp, and the mandatory falafels- all winners. The place has a full bar with happy hour prices and it's a warm and inviting bistro-like old brick building. Mazzat is a must for our family whenever we're looking for a delicious meditteranean meal in Brooklyn. read more

Excellent! Food is delicious! Fresh and yummy! Can't say enough good things. I've found my new go to place for falafel and hummus!!!

Their food is fresh, flavorful, pretty authentic and pretty damn delicious. This is my go to delivery restaurant whenever I need Middle Eastern food an I'm either too lazy to make it myself, or my mother isn't visiting and showering me with her Middle Eastern Goodness. Mmmm, I'm about to order some merguez from them off grubhub right now, actually! read more

I really, really wish Mazzat was on Court street, or even Henry. Middle eastern cuisine at it's finest. And by that I mean homemade style that's so tasty and filling, yet light. This place would blow all the other so-called medit and Arab cuisine in Carroll Gardens out of the water, seriously. Salmon kebab is my absolute favorite. The always super fresh Greek salad that is generously filled with lush greens, fresh feta and homemade stuffed grape leaves. Mazzat is truly a diamond in the rough. read more
