I think I'm in love... We stumbled upon Mazza as we were looking for a bite to eat before hitting the movies. What a gem we found! Mazza has been in business for 3 months and took over the spot that Agave had been. Everything was great, but here's my list in descending order - Mixed Bolani - freshly made bolani with potatoes and chives. This dish came out piping hot and I slathered all three sauces on top (yogurt, cilantro/mint?, sweet and spicy pepper). Great way to start the meal. I kind of inhaled this one, so next time I will try to slow down and taste the flavor. Tikka Kebab - tender pieces of meat on skewers. The menu said beef/lamb, but all the pieces I got tasted like lamb. Nice sear on the lamb and fattier pieces were tasty (not grisly). This is accompanied by flatbread and an herby, cucumber salad. Eggplant side - I have a friend that makes an excellent version of this dish and I really haven't found anything close until trying this one at Mazza. Cooked down so it just melts in your mouth. Flavors are great and the yogurt just takes it over the top. Chapli Kebab - we had a "I'll have what she's having" moment when this dish came out for the neighboring table. Onions, beef patties and tomato come out on a scalding hot metal plate. This dish was causing smoke for a good 2 minutes after landing on our table. Beef is definitely spiced as the description says (herbs and sumac?) and it comes with a side of fluffy rice. Tip - if you are coming for a meal and a movie, they are currently running a promotion for 15% off your order if you show proof of your movie attendance. Mazza nails it with a triple crown of fantastic good, generous portions, and really affordable prices. Really excited that this is an option for us in the East Bay! read more

Our foodie family enjoyed our early dinner at Mazza. The staff was friendly. The dishes we ordered were all delicious. We especially liked the two kabab dishes we ordered: Tikka Kabab and Chapli Kabab. I like the spices they use. I have no idea what spices but everything was good! The kids really liked the bolani. They were being creative and putting yogurt sauce, rice, and meat inside the bolani! They also gave 15% off because we had movie tickets right next door. What an amazing deal! decided to give it a try as it's a new restaurant and i love my afghan food. i got the mantu plate, i was surprised the mantu plate was small and the mantu was cold. We also got the bolani, i asked for the mix of gandana and potatoe but only received potatoe. the tikka kabob plate comes with one bread and we had to ask twice for more bread before it was bought. Honestly there's better afghan restaurants. the pina colado cocktail tasted like a cherry medicine haha. read more

Let's Go!! A new Afghan restaurant in Concord. We have been waiting for this place to open and we were super excited to try this place out with family and friends. The food is amazing and very authentic, even down to the skewers they serve the kebabs on. We especially loved the Qabeli Palaw, the Manto Dumplings and of course the Kebabs. Special thanks to Mohib for his incredible hospitality, he made us feel as though we were dining at his home. First of all the food is AMAZING! The food was well cooked and beautifully seasoned. We ordered the manto dumplings to start and they were delicious. I ordered the Chicken Kebab and my sister ordered the Tikka Kabob and they were both delicious. The menu said these items came with a green salad and there was no salad to be found. The restaurant is a beautiful space as it used to be a lounge. Unfortunately, the service did not go as well. Although the two waiters handling the tables were nice, they needed more help on a busy Saturday night. Many of the tables had not been bussed. We were not given extra plates for our appetizers. Some patrons were complaining that they did not receive the correct items or they were waiting for their food for long periods of time. It seemed like the wait staff was not properly trained. Perhaps because it is a new restaurant they are still working on their service. I hope so because I would like to return to eat their delicious food! read more

We came to Mazza with a party of 15 for my daughters graduation dinner. We ordered nearly everything on the menu and not a single dish disappointed. This place is an absolute treasure and without question one of the best restaurants in the entire Bay Area. The food was phenomenal from start to finish. The chapli kabobs came out sizzling on hot plates, bursting with bold spices and that perfect crispy edge. Just the sound and smell of them made everyone's mouth water. The mixed kabob platters were equally impressive, tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned with a smoky char that you can only get from true, traditional Afghan grilling. The Qabili Palaw was unforgettable: soft, fragrant rice piled high with fall-off-the-bone lamb, sweet caramelized carrots, and plump raisins. It was the star of the table, rich with flavor and beautifully balanced. We also devoured the bolani, mantu, Aushak, and more, and every dish was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with love. It's been a while since I've had something different and delicious in Walnut Creek/Concord! The food was delicious, well cooked, flavorful, a concoction of spices. This is the second Afghan restaurant in Concord that has overcharged me. The first one was the one on Clayton Road. Menu on the website clearly shows the eggplant dishes $7.99. Recently opened and locally owned, this place meets all the needs for your family if you want to enjoy a hearty and healthy Afghan meal. Space is big so hosting for a large family will not be an issue. The portions were big and the prices are very reasonable. They have all the favorites and the seasoning and spices are on point! My favorite things are the mock tails, many choices to choose from and very tasteful, a different twist on your traditional mock tails around this area. We tried this place for Mothers Day. The service is extremely extremely slow. If they knew they are not able to provide appropriate service to customers they should not accept them. We could have gone elsewhere. They arranged a table for us and stated the wait will be 27 mins for food to come out we agreed. We entered the restaurant at 5:30PM left at 8:20PM. Majority of that time was just waiting. The servers were extremely slow and would hardly check back on the customers or tables to remove used plates to make space on the tables. We had to chase them down to get to go boxes then chase them down just to pay. They definitely need to hire more help. The host was very kind and accommodating with a smile. The food was okay, many items were sold out tho so we could not try the lamb tikka kabobs not the palou. The lamb karahi was the best. They forgot to bring out the French fries we ordered as an appetizer for our child. They rushed to bag it up for us which we told them no but they insisted which was pointless no one is going to eat the fries once we take them home it'll taste old and stale which we ended up throwing away regardless. They did apologize in the end for the wait and inconvenience stating that they did not know it'll be busy for Mother's Day, I mean it's Mother's Day of course it'll be busy with every family wanting to take their moms out it's common sense. But A for effort and trying to be as accommodating as possible but they definitely need to hire more experienced staffing. read more

We went to Mazza by the Brendan theater in downtown Concord and it was delicious That was my first time experiencing Afghan cuisine We were presented with a feast of dumplings, kabobs, rice, eggplant at the suggestion of the owner He explained each dish as well as some the the culture and geography of the country. They import all their spices directly from Afghanistan for true authentic flavor. The dishes were nicely presented and colorful. Many dishes had a subtle kick of flavor but they were not too spicy. It's like the flavors were very pronounced but not hot or overpowering. The rice was light and fluffy and flavorful And the mocktails were delicious When you walk in you see what looks like a full bar but it is really a mocktail bar The restaurant follows the cultural tradition of no alcohol, but they have huge variety of hand crafted drinks that incorporate fresh ingredients and cultural flavors. I had a mock pina colada. It was light, not too sweet and garnished with fresh pineapple. It was so good I wanted to order another one but, but I was too full and satisfied.
