I'm not an authority on Afghan food so this is rated as an outsider…read more Overall the food can be summarized as: lightly seasoned, enjoy the simple flavors of each component, and Must use the sauces to complete the dish. I personally think everything needed some salt, but maybe it's meant to be this way. Highlight is most definitely the green sauce (yogurt and chili, not spicy), baklava (sweet sticky on the bottom and flaky crisp on top, not overly sweet), yogurt mint drink (dough). Shami beef and chicken kebab were juicy and not dry. Through a bit of miscommunication.. I was given the yogurt drink instead of the normal side of yogurt cucumber sauce for the meat, and was warned by Ali that some people don't like it since it's a yogurt drink with salt, but honestly it was great and was essentially a yogurt mint sauce I expect from other Mediterranean/Middle Eastern type places but more watery. So admittedly I just took sips of this while taking bites of the kebab and rice and it was pretty much the flavors I was looking for, but an extra step. Beef Mantu was another source of confusion since there are regular and homemade versions (I didn't realize). They made me the homemade version without confirming with me on the phone; no problem. It was filled with lightly seasoned beef and topped with interesting spices. Overall not bad not great, definitely needs sauce / salt. Too light in my opinion. And for $25 I wouldn't get again not worth it. The customer service from Ali was great. Knowing this was my first time he explained everything, offered to charge me less due to the miscommunications (I declined), and gave complimentary side of sauce and baklava as a nice gesture. Good food. I know how to order next time. Extra green sauce or yogurt drink all over.

Service was pleasant, and we received enough attention throughout the meal course. Great, open seating with the view on the Monument Boulevard, that was bright and comfortable. The outstanding Afghani food, and even better the desserts with saffron tea made this experience complete throughout. Would highly recommend Narunj Palow with thinly sliced dates. Turned out to be a little bit pricier than I thought it would be for a lunch, however, it really did worth it.

I will definitely make sure to visit again when I'm in town. -------------- If you want to read my story of how and why I tried this place, read more here: I walked by this place while my car was getting an oil change. They had a sign that said in big letters, "HUNGRY? We can fix that!" Like Winnie the Pooh, I checked in with my stomach and answered yes! I was famished. I had brought my lunch with me but left it in the car while it was getting the oil changed, so I had nothing to nibble on. It was kind of early, maybe 10 AM, and I didn't even think they would be open, but then I realized they did have the sign outside on the sidewalk. I walked by the front door and it opened automatically. My heart started to flutter. So I went to look at their menu online and saw that they had chicken shawarma bowls. I love chicken shawarma. I decided to look them up on Yelp and make sure they had good reviews. I realized that they were a sponsored ad, and that gave me pause. The last time I went to a Middle Eastern restaurant that was sponsored, it was not so great, so I quickly checked the reviews. They have pretty good reviews! One review said that the chicken was dry, but others were more positive. I had a really good feeling, so I ordered it. Another reviewer commented that the rice was so good -- and they're not normally a rice enthusiast -- so when I placed my order, I upgraded my rice from the white rice that comes with the order to the rice infused with turmeric and garbanzo beans. When I opened my order, the bowl was a pretty decent size. If my husband had been with me, we probably would've been able to split it. In my order, I saw: * Seasoned chicken drizzled with shawarma and a delicious white sauce. * Hummus * Tomato cucumber salad * And this yellow turmeric rice I couldn't resist -- the rice was the first thing I tasted, and it was delicious! I can't quite figure out what flavors are in there, but I could taste a hint of cinnamon, and there were definitely other flavors there. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The hummus could very easily be the best hummus I've ever had. I really enjoyed this meal. I really wanted to eat the entire bowl myself but decided to save half of it for my daughter, who I know will also love it. Customer service was excellent. Adam was at the counter and greeted me very warmly. And when I was leaving, they asked me if I wanted hot sauce and then they put that in the bag. Overall, I give this five stars. I love that the food comes in an eco-friendly container. If there's anything that I could change, it's probably that they put it in a plastic bag instead of a paper bag. I try to avoid plastic as much as possible, but the container was quite big and needed to be in a bag while I hiked back to the oil change place. Oh, and before I forget... one of the first things I asked before I ordered is if the shawarma plate was gluten-free, and he assured me that everything in it was unless I was getting pita. And one more fun note -- when I got back to the car place, someone walked in, saw my food, and immediately asked, "Oh, is that from Manakish?" I was pretty impressed they could recognize it just by the look, especially since the restaurant is about half a mile away. Oh...and when i gave it to my daughter...she loved it so it gets two thumbs up!!

We ordered the K2 (chicken breasts) & K3 (lamb) - both with double kabobs, plus the chicken pizza. Wasn't expecting the meat to be so tender, juicy & full of flavor (their sauces were great too). And the prices wasn't too bad either! Next time, we're trying to chicken sandwiches!

Nothing extravagant, but very clean. A 3/5 for ambiance because it was basic. The service was a bit strange. We ordered over the phone using the menu online but when we asked for a K5 (the chicken wrap) the person taking the order had no idea what we were talking about so we had to go back to the menu to find the actual name, and that was inconvenient. Also, there was no one up front when walking in and my partner had to call out multiple times before anyone responded. Service gets a 2.8/5 as it was just below my minimum requirements for service. We got a chicken wrap with fries x2, dal with rice and lamb kabobs (not pictured). The wraps were perfect, chicken crispy and juicy, and the coleslaw adds a light crunch into the mix, this gets a 5/5. The lamb was tender, juicy, and very well seasoned. The texture was dense, but not chewy, and would have also been bomb inside the wrap, the lamb gets a 5/5. The dal was spicy, and served with a large chili and fire roasted tomatoes. I'm a big fan of lentils and curry, so this was an easy choice. The fragrance of the saffron rice with the lentils reminded me of comfort food on a rainy afternoon. I give this a 5/5. Overall, the food is great but the service could be better. I give this eatery a 4.2/5
