I was in town with my family, when we came across Methi. Our sister in law was celebrating her 24 birthday, she loves Indian food. We have not tried Methi yet but was on our have to try list. The decor was nice, the service was phenomenal considering it was quite busy. The food exceeded our expectations which is tough to do for we have been to plenty of Indian restaurants. I stopped in for lunch on Friday. I appreciate restaurants that offer lunch specials, they seem to be far and few these days! I chose the chicken bowl, and you get to choose any of the chicken dishes from the menu. I chose the tikka masala. The sauce was rich and creamy, and the chicken serving was generous and good quality. It came with rice, cucumber salad, and naan bread. A very generous serving so I had leftovers to take home, as did most of the other patrons. But what I also loved about this place is the charming marigold ceiling decor, and attentive and quick service. Parking is easy, there's a free lot just steps from the restaurant. Today I went with a friend and ordered most dishes gluten free. We started with their gluten free mango lassi . I had an iced chai. I like the hot one more. We ordered a gluten free naan. This is the reason why I am giving this review a 4. It tasted like a toasted corn tortilla, pretty bland. The rest of the food was delish we had rice, vegan entree and the mint chicken kabab was so flavorful. The service was good, we got seated right away. We were the first customers of the day. We decided to try Methi after seeing the great reviews. We ordered the butter chicken, curry chicken, garlic naan, basmati rice X2, chicken samosas,a beer, and mango lassi. Our bill came to about $70+ before tip. The entrees did not come with rice or naan so we had to order that separately. The curry was okay but sauce was very watery. The butter chicken was good but the chicken was a little dry. The chicken samosas were very dry and needed tons of sauce. I think a cream based sauce would've been better to help with the dryness of the chicken. Overall the food was okay, nothing stood out to justify the higher price point. The entree by themselves were $19 each and portions were not generous. Would not recommend the samosas. Chicken was so dry it was hard to swallow. The waitress was sweet and taught me how to eat panipuri. The food was all really tasty. This is a cute, quaint little spot in a good area of Walnut Creek. No bells and whistles, but I honestly cannot think of a single reason I could dock a star. Huge selection of appetizers which would make this place perfect for quick post-work happy-hour vibes although idk if they actually have a happy hour. Had a good meal here for the first time back in mid July. After The Essence closed, we were looking for a new Indian restaurant in Walnut Creek. I made a 6:30 reservation on a Friday night, and am glad I did since it was busy. The decorations are the first thing you notice when you walk in. Here's what we ordered: Vegan Mango Lassi 5/5 - so glad there was a vegan version of the drink! I'm not vegan but can't have a lot of dairy. This was delicious and helped between bites of spicy foods. Garlic Naan 4/5 - not the best naan I've had, but perfectly fine for dipping in curry Dosa 5/5 - this was delicious and HUGE! 4 people can share this as an appetizer. we had leftovers that we took home. This was the highlight of the meal. Coconut chicken curry 4/5 - pretty good! Lamb Saag 3.5/5 - not super memorable but good Service was decent, and there was free parking behind the building. Over the years, I have eaten at many Indian restaurants both locally and nationally. The cuisine usually ranges from inspiringly delicious to just okay, but I had never experienced outright disappointment--until now. Methi unfortunately broke that streak. Despite the high ratings, my experience was a first-time letdown for this type of cuisine. The sauces were incredibly weak and lacked traditional ingredients, resulting in bland, terrible food. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Indian Kabob. Both dishes seemed to use the exact same base sauce and preparation, almost as if they were poured from the same generic bowl. To make matters worse, the Raita sauce looked and tasted exactly like generic Ranch salad dressing, making it completely inedible. The vegetable side for the kabob was equally embarrassing. The portion was incredibly skimpy and consisted solely of limp onions and bell peppers with zero crispness, despite typically being prepared on a hot iron skillet. The chicken also lacked any of the signature dark char marks you expect from a properly grilled kabob. We ultimately only took a few bites of each dish and left, deeply disappointed and dealing with a lasting, unpleasant aftertaste. Any restaurant merits honest feedback, and I genuinely hope the kitchen reviews their preparation and recipes. read more

I absolutely recommend Methi. The food is exceptional, since our last time in Walnut Creek we have been there three time. I'm from Southern California and no where I've been has Indian food this good. I can't say enough about it the Chicken tiki marsala is so good. We've gone to Methi several times but today I finally took pictures and I'm writing a review. The people that work there are so nice. The restaurant is really small but super cute. I love the food. We had the garlic naan and it was just exceptionally yummy. I ordered a mango chutney and it was only two dollars and they gave a really nice amount and it was so tasty. We had basmati rice. After seeing posts on Nextdoor, a friend and I tried Methi for the first time last month (January 2025). We both got the lunch special, which came with naan, rice, and salad. I had the veggie tikka masala and she had the baingan bharta. I didn't love the veggie tikka masala as it didn't have the tikka masala sauce I'm accustomed to in this dish. The best part of the special was the naan. Though we were there in the early afternoon, the restaurant wasn't crowded and our food was served quickly. Wanting to give Methi another chance, I ordered shrimp curry and roti tonight (2/14/2025) via DoorDash. When my order arrived, I got chicken curry instead. I called Methi to let them know the order was incorrect. Not only was the owner, Vikram, apologetic, but he offered to personally deliver the corrected order. When he arrived, he refused to take the tip I offered. Before I knew it, I was enjoying my shrimp curry! Though the sauce was a tad salty for my liking, the spices more than made up for it. I love that he included roti with the second order because it soaked up the curry nicely. Thanks Vikram for ensuring I got my order corrected (and I'm sorry my apartment can be difficult to find at night)! Tonight was the first time a restaurant owner addressed an issue with an incorrect order AND personally delivered it to me. It's clear customer satisfaction is important to him, which means he went into the restaurant business for the right reasons. A fun little restaurant with marigolds dangling from the ceiling, it's a nice looking interior, bright, cheery, homey. Indian music played in the background, the floor was clean and so were the tables. I was visited and taken care of by two different friendly staff members. Whenever I go to a new-to-me Indian restaurant, I always order the same thing: mango lassi, some form of soup, some form of bread, some rice, and butter chicken. Overall good flavor with everything, though I think their dishes lean towards an Afghani/Indian fusion. Mango lassi - thicker than any other lassi I've ever had but a good flavor and not overly sweet, homemade. 4/5 Chicken soup - I'm not a fan of rustic cut vegetables, which is what the soup was; good flavor though. It came out scalding hot, I had to eat it after my main dish. 3/5 Vegetable samosas - the outer pastry was much thicker than my liking, but the flavor of the Samosa inside was good. The tamarind chutney served with it was good, a little tart, little sweet, a little spicy. The cilantro chutney, they served with it, looked and tasted like the cilantro chutney from Afghani food. 3/5 Aloo paratha - when this came out it looked and tasted like bolani kachaloo. Adding the cilantro chutney on it made me think I was in an Afghani restaurant. It came out with a form of raita that was smoother, spicier and a more dill flavor than I've ever had before. The ramekin that it came in, was garnished with puffed rice. 4/5 Butter chicken - this butter chicken had a nice smoky flavor to it that I like, but any similarities between it and any other butter chicken I've ever had ends there. It doesn't look like the sauce was strained as it wasn't smooth, and it was missing the tanginess and slight sweetness that normally accompanies a tomato sauce. I asked for medium spice and I'm not sure there was any heat to it other than the temperature. lol I'm not sure that I would order it again, it was a decent flavor, but when I order butter chicken, I expect something different. 3/5 Overall, a positive experience and I will be back as I would like to try their dosa and idli sambar. Nice place! Has a nice calming dim light ambience and a relaxed vibe. Service is quick and efficient. The veg momos were very tasty. The paneer tikka and garlic naan were also good. The parathas were very nice and soft and the raita that was served with the parathas was super delicious. I'd gladly visit again because this is a very good Indian spot in Walnut Creek. Parking can be done in the parking lot that's right next to the building and it was very easy for us to find parking too. A delightful Indian restaurant in Downtown Walnut Creek, nestled next to The Habit and Yogurtland. My husband and I came in last Wednesday for dinner because I was craving Indian food. We ordered their chicken tikka masala and saag paneer (both mild) with plain naan, paratha, and plain basmati rice to accompany the dishes. Everything was cooked well and so flavorful! The chicken pieces in the CTM were surprisingly moist, and went extremely well with the naan and rice of course. The saag paneer had a little bit of tanginess/sour notes to it, which I didn't mind, but definitely wasn't expecting. Still good though. Also got an Iced Chai to wash it all down, which was not too sweet and had a nice light chai flavor to it. We were the only customers dining in at the time, so of course we had the most attentive server. She was great. No complaints about this visit! Will definitely come back again. read more

I was so pleasantly surprised with my first visit here. I ordered takeout, but when I went in to go pick it up, the restaurant is beautiful. It is so clean and nice in there, and the man working their register was so nice. My meal was also delicious. I ordered butter chicken, coconut chicken curry and saag paneer with garlic naan (total cost $77.00). I will say everything was really good with rich flavors. My only issue was that at their price point NONE of the entrees came with rice or naan. Most Indian places that charge $6.00 or $7.00 less per entree include rice and/or naan. The service was also very good. Quick and attentive staff. Rating Food taste/quality-A, Service-A, Cost for what you get-D-. If they had included rice or naan with entrees they would be a solid A. Solid new Indian spot in Walnut Creek. I ordered the butter chicken and lamb biryani. Both the chicken and lamb were very tender and fell apart as we ate. You're also able to choose your spicy level which is a nice option. The dish doesn't come with a starch so make sure to order rice, naan, etc. I got the garlic naan and it was very garlicky, soft, and worked perfectly with the butter chicken. I ordered by phone and my order was ready in 10 minutes. The person who took my order was very kind and was also accommodating when I called back to update my order. The mango lassi was also perfect to supplement the meal. Portions are quite large (we had about half left of each dish for two people) so leftovers can be eaten the following day! read more

Methi in Walnut Creek is an absolute gem. The food is always phenomenal--fresh, flavorful, and consistently delicious...and the service is always unbelievably fast without ever feeling rushed. We've been lucky enough to have Victor as our server on multiple occasions, and he made the experience even better. I once came in feeling under the weather, and he was so kind and thoughtful, bringing me chai and telling me it would help me feel better. He was right...it really did. That level of care is rare and so appreciated. My go-to order is the veg samosa...crispy, perfectly seasoned, and paired with tamarind sauce that is seriously THE BOMB. The garlic naan is a must every time. I love the coconut curry chicken, and my date swears by the chicken tikka masala with a side of rice for us to share. The portions are generous, so we always have enough to take home, and it's still delicious the next day! Also don't forget a hot chai tea The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and has such a cozy, cute vibe, perfect for a date or a relaxed dinner out. The staff is polite and the service is fast. Lots of room to sit inside. The taste and flavours are authentic but I felt the dishes were oily and did make me sick after eating :(. I was very excited to try this new Indian restaurant that I discovered on yelp. It has good amount of reviews, but after trying the horrendous food that was horribly flavored and on top of that, the Naan, Bhutura (see pic) and the Gobi Prantha all were raw. The flavors were completely bad I would never ever step foot in this place again based on the way food was made! The chef here had no idea how to cook Indian food! To top everything off and this part is hilarious. They had three different types of music playing in the restaurant. The first music was more of a religious music that played in the morning for most Indians . The second music playing in the background was a Hindi song and then someone had Hispanic music playing in the kitchen?! Here's a note to some of those that like Indian restaurants, if the puri of the Pani Puri is made from packaged disk, these puff up like rice crispy treats, it is absolutely crap! This means are using subpar product, good Puris are made from real fresh dough that puffs up when you fry it, like a mini Puri. One good thing was that was good was the Ajar which is the pickle mango was really good because I came from a canned jar. Other than that, the rest was horrible. read more

After a not-great first experience with the food here, I returned to grab a weekday lunch - saag chicken with tandoori roti (the menu does not have regular tawa roti which would have made it a lighter meal). Didn't matter, because yet again, the food was simply not seasoned well. The food is not overly spicy (thankfully), but the flavor profile isn't there either. Unfortunately, having a temp-worker who isn't familiar with Indian food as a cook isn't going to cut it. I doubt that this guy can cook anything, let alone Indian food. A well-intended suggestion to the folks who run this place: change out the cook, bring in someone who knows Indian food, and can cater to a wider demography. That will improve the quality of food by orders of magnitude. Else, you'd be catering to the select few in this neck of the woods, and Walnut Creek isn't even a place known for Indian food anyway. read more

When the chef at an Indian restaurant is Hispanic, you question your decision to drop in. Five of us were the only lunch customers on a Tuesday. The owner Vikram was there. We all ordered from the main menu family style as the lunch specials are very limited.. The food was overly oily. The naans were fresh and delicious. We are all Indians and were hoping for a good Indian restaurant in WC but this left us wanting. There are better choices in Concord, Lafayette and Orinda. Vikram shared that they have closed their Orinda restaurant Anya's Kitchen and it is now a Bangladeshi restaurant. Hopefully things get better but our experience wasn't great. Will give it another try. Note: The owner reached out and reminded me that we did not complain when he asked us how everything was. He is right, we were too polite. I ordered a chicken saag bowl which came with basmati rice and a fresh cucumber, onion, and radish salad, and freshly baked naan. I also ordered the paneer pakora on the side. It came with green and mango chutney. I asked for raita, which was the perfect compliment for the chicken saag. I asked for mild spice, it had the perfect kick, flavor was not sacrificed.
