DO NOT MISS THIS NEW GEM! Martinez has been in need of a good Indian restaurant for a long time and not only is New India good, but it's OUTSTANDING. I've had a lot of Indian cuisine and their dishes are flavorful, healthy, and fresh. The service is lovely and kind. We're absolutely spoiled that New India is practically in our neighborhood. I hope they are beloved by the community enough to stay for the long haul. Now, what about the food? We tried our favorite take-out staples: Lamb Biryani, Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken, Palak Paneer, and Garlic Naan. The Lamb Biryani was flavorful and fluffed with veggies and spices and a nice balance of fat without being too greasy. Tandoori Chicken was moist and balanced, flavorful down to the last shred. Garlic Naan was perfectly garlicky and toasted without too much ghee or oil - just right! The Palak Paneer was a real treat - classic spinach flavor with the right amount of spices and firm, delicious chunks of paneer (cheese). My husband ate his indulgent Butter Chicken before I could try any, so take that as a compliment. He usually has sauce left over, but not this time! Plan a visit if you're open to Indian food, and if you've never tried it, this is an excellent place and time to check that off your list. Once in awhile you try a new place and it's good enough that you question the wisdom of a five-star review that could help drive more people to a place you now kind of want to keep to yourself, but that would be short sighted. This is one of those places, and for the sake of their long term success and the thriving of a restaurant that fills a gap in our local cuisine range, I hope all of you go. Right now. Today. I live in Martinez and my favorite restaurants for this kind of food are in Vacaville and Walnut Creek, but this is as good or better than those places. First off, I called in my order and totally got side tracked and realized they had already closed, so I called them and the owner Navi or Avi answered and said, no problem we still have your order if you still want it you can come pick it up. So I sped on down and picked it up. Upon arriving I met Navi and immediately apologized again and thanked him for allowing me to grab my food after closing hours. Now, onto the food. I ordered your standard butter chicken and garlic naan. The butter chicken was delicious. It was rich, creamy and velvety. They even threw in extra chicken at no additional charge. The garlic naan was soft, bubbly and buttery. Oh, and Navi even gave me a free mango lassi! Such a cool guy. I will definitely be going back again and trying everything else on the menu. The interior is small, maybe a dozen tables, but I wasn't expecting much because I use to go there when it was Acme Express. I'm so glad we finally have a good Indian restaurant nearby. I highly recommend everything I ate. The stand out was the Chicken Tikka. It was so flavorful, cooked perfectly, and the portion size was perfect. I will definitely go back. So delicious! I was so excited for an Indian food place in Martinez, and it's right off the freeway! The business owners are the nicest people, the customer service was excellent. The owner was very thorough and made sure we got what we wanted. It's a small cozy little place, nice and quiet and enjoyable. The FOOD! Absolutely knocked it out of the park. We got ( and we will be back to try the whole menu...) Garlic Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chana Masala, vegetable Korma, and Butter chicken. Martinez had no Indian Restaurant...until now! We had dinner in the restaurant and met one of the lovely owners. The food was amazing. The level of spice was perfectly balanced. I believe the default is medium and I thought it was perfect and I heard others order the spice level they wanted. Everything was piping hot! They have a tandoori oven, so the Nann was cooked to perfection. We started with Aloo Tikka Chaat, then for mains we had Chicken Boti Kabob, basmati rice and Lamb Sagg. Husband ordered a Mango Lassi. Normally I don't like them, but this one was so good, and not too sweet. We over ordered for just the two of us, but now I have lunch! The food is outstanding! We eat Indian food pretty regularly, usually twice a month or so, and this just became my new favorite spot. Highly recommend getting a chaat, we had the samosa chaat and the chutney is the best I have ever had. The spice level was just right and the dish was flavorful & fresh. Finally, Martinez has an Indian restaurant that I can't wait to visit again! I recently had lunch from New India, and the food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the Chicken Boti, Garlic Naan, and Fish Pakora, and every dish was outstanding. The fish was moist and perfectly cooked, the chicken was tender, flavorful, and full of authentic spices, and the garlic naan was fresh, soft, and perfectly made. What impressed me most was that everything was flavorful without being heavy or greasy. The quality of the food really stood out. As someone who loves Indian cuisine, I can honestly say this is a restaurant I'll return to again and again. The service was just as wonderful as the food. I was greeted with kindness from the moment I walked in to pick up my food and I think she may have been the owner but she was lovely and made me feel genuinely welcome. I truly hope they continue providing the same excellent food and service because Martinez has gained a real gem. Surprised at the reviews and 5 stars, because as much as I wanted to love this place, it just wasn't good. The rice was dry or undercooked and the masala sauces just didn't have that impact on your tongue as good curry usually does. It was literally just OKAY. I'm a huge fan of Indian food and was excited to hear that one was finally coming to Martinez! For the same price as a lunch combo, I can get all you can eat at Swagat and Mehran which is much better IMO. read more

Unfortunately, this didn't live up to the ratings. The chicken tikka masala was disappointing--the chicken tasted rubbery and had the texture of frozen, reheated meat. The sauce lacked spice depth and tasted more like creamy tomato soup than a proper tikka masala. The naan was also chewy rather than soft and fluffy. Their food here is excellent. I love Indian food and it always taste good! The Lamb and goat dishes, way overpriced. I can get Lamb Vinderloo for $15 and their rice for $3.50 at Anarkali in Concord. they charge $18.95 for their lamb Vinderloo. $19 for one entrée is not in my budget too bad because it's real close to my house. This restaurant opened a week or two ago close by us and we were looking forward to trying it and hoping the food would be good. I am so happy to report it is DELICIOUS. The 3 of us had achari chicken, binyari rice with chicken the puréed spinach and chickpeas and garlic naan and we were all very happy with the food. The dining room is very tiny about 12 tables and very basic with regards to service and decor, but the mom and pop owners are very friendly and very good cooks. We plan to come on a regular basis. One additional note: medium spice level was just a tad too spicy for me, but both the guys thought it was perfect. read more
