When I walked into this restaurant, I immediately thought that Gordon Ramsey needed to pay them a visit as the interior was outdated, with dark stained carpet throughout, there was a musty odor of mildew hit my nose on impact. I was disgusted as my appetite left my soul. I badly wanted to tell my friend that we needed to find another place to eat, but knew he mentioned that he was starving and there wasn't other restaurant opened in his small town. I settled. The wiff of smell lingered as we were seated a comfy booth table. The waiter at which seemed to be the owner, thanked us for visiting. We and just one other family was in the whole restaurant. It was a bad sign. I attempted to eat something and ordered guacamole. My friend got the tortilla soup. Chips and "salsa" was brought to the table. Surprisingly, my friend didn't seem to have any issues with the restaurant. I tasted the "salsa", it was gross! It had the flavor of pasta sauce. Both my friend and I tasted one bite, but couldn't finish it. When the food came out, another waiter brought it out. His face was emotionless. The guacamole looked sad too. I tasted it and it was bland. My friend's tortilla soup appeared to taste better after he added lime juice to the mix. I added salt to the overly beaten guac. It still was nasty. The tomatoes were soft and didn't have the crisp of fresh tomato. Everything tasted old and awful. I ate four tiny chips of guacamole and couldn't stomach anymore. My friend was shocked that I didn't finish the food. He gladly finished his soup and half bowl of the guacamole I ordered. I felt bad. Towards the end, I started to smell a large wniff of Fabolousa then suddenly the restaurant smelt clean, but it was too late to turn back. Also, another thing to note. The menu mentioned that they add peanut butter to the enchiladas sauce. My friend who is from Mexico City, MX thought that was very strange and says that isn't a common thing. read more

Consistency for great food here! We live local and here in Aberdeen the dining options are few so, we feel very fortunate to have two Mazatlan's. The food is flavorful, arriving hot and they make it to order. The service here is almost alway good but just not enough for the five stars. Reasonable prices for delicious food. It was somewhere near my minimum qualification cut-off for "just okay." You walk in the door and almost fall on your ass. The floor is so soapy and slimy that it is just begging a slip-n-fall con artist to cash in...or maybe a legitimate injury. If that is how they take care of the lobby, how poorly do the clean the back of the house? Service was speedy and our waiter was friendly, attentive, and professional. The food was mediocre, at best. $15 bought us two chicken flautas and a scoop of beans and rice at lunch. It came with a small dollop of sour cream, guacamole, and shredded lettuce topped with a quarter inch half-moon slice of tomato. There was no flavor except a weird "fryer oil needs changed" after-taste. The chips had the same weird flavor. The salsa was also unusual. Not completely objectionable, but more smoky than spicy or flavorful. The rice and beans were bland and worse than generic. The lunch menu had very few options and there was no description of each dish, just what side they came with. For example, they had a couple different named burritos and I could tell which had protein options and/or sides of guacamole and sour cream, but I don't know what distinguishes the names. The bathrooms were no cleaner than the lobby. There is ample parking. One weird transient wandering the lot, but he didn't tamper with anything and just kind of hung out without being confronted by staff. Easy in-out for larger vehicles. I won't return unless they do a major renovation and reopen under new management. read more

Service was fast and polite. Ambiance was pretty standard but looked nice. The food was the same as every other Mazatlan, but not quite as good. I got the deluxe burrito. The sauce could have been reduced a little bit as it was way too watery. The filling on the other hand didn't have nearly enough moisture so I was left feeling confused and a bit unsatisfied. That said, there was enough flavor to enjoy it, but I've had that meal at other places that nearly made my whole day with how good it was. Everyone was very happy with their drinks however, and their alcoholic beverage selection has a HUGE variety. We have been to this Restaurant many times. I almost always order the same thing:Tacos Al Carbon. Normally they come out on a huge plate, with lots of yummy steak in each corn tortilla. I always get everything on the side including pico and guacamole. Today I ordered the same thing, the same way and my tacos came to me smothered in enchilada sauce. When I spoke to our waiter he simply said that they are always made this way. You can't pick them up and eat them because they fall apart. I tried eating one with a fork and knife but it was pointless. Finally we asked for some tortillas so that I could eat my tacos. For the price that we pay to eat out, I expect to love my food and have problems fixed as they arise. I'm very disappointed and probably won't come here again. read more

Tucked away in the strip center near Xfinity and Marshall's, Matzatlan was a last-minute decision. It turned out to be a good choice, with a large menu with something for everyone. The only soup on the menu was chicken so a few more choices would have been nice. Upon being seated, the expected chips and salsa, water, were presented with a smile. The wait staff was friendly, responsive to requests for extra salsa, napkins, etc. The chicken taquitos were good, served with ample guacamole, sour cream, and diced lettuce. It was way more than I could eat for lunch. The atmosphere was that kitschy sort of south-of-the-border look, but I loved the flowers and paintings on the walls. Never again , was seated after explaining to the girl that I wasn't the guy that someone was already waiting for , got seated , water and chips were brought then 10 minutes later they sat a couple behind me , 15 minutes later the waitress came to the other table to get their order, never once in that 25 minutes did anyone other than the water guy acknowledge the fact that I was sitting at a table, I will not flag someone down to take my order. The food is awful and horribly overpriced. Fajitas are NOT cooked and served on cast iron and we're not "fajitas" by any means,; certainly not worth 22 dollars. You get a 1/2 teaspoon of guacamole and 1/2 teaspoon of sour cream and about 1/4 cup beans and rice. Horrible service as well. Waitress didn't refill water or salsa and chips. Our group of 12 decided to inundate the little Mexican restaurant near the hotel we were staying at for the weekend. When we told the host that we were expecting 12 he didn't even bat an eye and was off putting tables together with pitchers of water, mountains of chips and troughs of salsa. Bonus points for the quick work. I think we further scored points with them when we said it would all be on one check. Drinks came very quickly after being ordered and cascades of margaritas flowed from the bar to our table of tired, hungry rally drivers, navigators and service crew. Alcohol is essential to a good rally weekend (after the racing is done for the day of course). Everyone said they enjoyed their meal. On a personal note I had the Chili Colorado and it was above average. Rice and beans were well made and the corn tortillas were hot and pliable. I heard special praise for the chicken enchiladas and the carne asada. This was a warm environment, great service all the way around and well decorated. Decent food, good portions and a very friendly staff. We stopped here for a late lunch and despite being 30 minutes past lunch time, they let us order the lunch combos. They also bring out a large plate of complimentary nachos and salsa. The chicken enchiladas were very tasty but a little too cheesy. They were perfectly cooked though and I'd recommend them. The chicken Chimichangas were ok. Very average. The jalapeño poppers were horrible. Don't order them. They were fried in cold oil and were just a soggy oily mushy with no flavor. Spent 2 nights in Hoquiam and ate here both nights. First night had Camarones ala diabla. Took some time for our food to arrive but there was 3 of us. It was well worth the wait. The camarones were cook perfectly, not rubbery or chewy at all. I finished my plate in 10 mins and I'm a really slow eater. Next night had Arroz con pollo. There was plenty of chicken and the onions were super fresh. They still had a crunch when I bit into them. Mushrooms were tasty as well. I attached photos of all our meals. Only negative was Thursday night it was really loud. We had worked a full day an just wanted a quiet dinner. Other than that it was great. read more
