Sushi roll
Lisa G.

After some shopping in Carytown, my teen and I stopped in for a weekend lunch. The place was empty at 2pm, but the decor is very cute. My daughter ordered the pad see ew with beef and I ordered a special roll. My roll was excellent. The noodles and flavor of her dish was really good. The reason for 3 though is the beef was so tough that she literally chewed and discarded it in her napkin. She managed to get a bite or two of the beef down, but left the rest. We didn't say anything to the server, which we probably should have (mostly for them to be aware), but I thought might teen might die of embarrassment, if I said anything. One other table came while we were there. I always prefer a bustling restaurant over a quiet one. They did have music playing, which helped it not feel too quiet. Given the variety of restaurants in the walking area, I probably would not go back. It could have been one unlucky dish, so I don't discourage others.

a cutie anime sushi bar in Carytown! obviously with everything else on Cary, parking is not ideal. it is nice to walk around and grab dinner here. The staff were kind and answered our questions. A very intimate space, I feel like it's a sweet place for a date!

This review has been in draft mode for two years--shameful! Haha I visited Mayu Sushi & Thai and boy did I leave satisfied! Mayu is a cute family-owned and operated restaurant located in the Carytown area of Richmond and they are serving an authentic Thai dining experience as well as a fresh sushi bar. We started out with a suggestion of milk tea and it was quite delicious! First time trying it and loved it! The bartender said it's even better with alcohol. For food I had a little bit of everything and all of it was good. I mean seriously delicious. The curry dumplings were my favorite and it was a flavor explosion in my mouth. Washed it all down with not one but two spicy margaritas they were that good. The fresh cucumber juice Jacob puts in it, really set it off. If you fancy Asian cuisine then you should definitely try Mayu and if it isn't your thing, step outside your regular degular foodie box and try something new and delicious. You cannot go wrong here. Go check it out y'all!

We were walking around and saw this place and decided to stop and try it out. The food was delicious and I always try something different on the menu. I tried the beef salad and sticky rice . I drank my normal jasmine tea. The service was great . They were decorated for Christmas , so it was very fitting for the upcoming holiday . Would highly recommend this place .

If you want delicious and authentic Thai food, this is the place for you! Mayu is incredibly delicious and has great food. Their sushi master knows what he's doing and takes his time being intentional about each dish. You can't go wrong with whatever you order here. Mayu is located in Carytown, so is a great place to stop after some shopping (or fuel before shopping). I highly recommend keeping your eyes open for the sushi specials of the day because it is usually an incredible nigiri. There is a good amount of seating available inside. You can find bar seating and a bunch of tables. There isn't any outdoor seating at this spot. If you need to use the restrooms, you have to go down some stairs. I highly recommend ordering a tasty Thai iced tea here. Do be mindful that service can be really slow here. They're intentional with their dishes so food can take a little to come out. But if you have this in mind, all will be well once your very tasty meal is in front of you! Check out Mayu Sushi & Thai for lunch or dinner!

Sun Dried beef

The night before Christmas Eve, we stopped by after a long day exploring Carytown. We ordered the sun dried beef, and it was amazing, it reminded me of what I had in Thailand. We also ordered two sushi rolls: Akira and Mayu. We thought they would be small, but they were huge! Most importantly, they tasted great. My wife and I love this place. We will definitely be back when visiting Cary town. The sushi chef was very friendly too! We sat at the bar. If you know what NARUTO is this is the place ! Make sure to stop by when you are in Cary town!

Cool atmosphere with a flavorful menu full of various Thai & sushi items. The bar area is perfect with anime playing in background and a great playlist. Love the vibes.

Pad Thai with veggies, extra sprouts
Sandra M.

They have a solid pad thai. I ordered mine with veggies, extra bean sprouts, "American Spicy." Portion was decent, flavor was good, spice level was perfect--I can handle a fair amount of heat, and this level was enough to warm me up but not too spicy where I'd have to drink a lot of water. Food came out quickly.

The people I was with wanted to go to Fighting Fish but my partner and I eat takeout there alll the time. I've been wanting to try Maui since I saw Lena post about them during their grand opening, so I suggested we go there instead. It was a Friday night in Carytown (iykyk), so we parked in literally the first spot we could find and used GPS to walk to the restaurant. It was then that we realized that they were closing in 30 minutes! We'd already driven out of our way, so we tried our luck and went in anyway. To our surprise, the restaurant was still pretty full and we were seated with no fuss and no warnings about the "kitchen closing". Every staff member we encountered, from the bartender, to the runners was so nice and polite. There was never a moment where we felt rushed. Our server was on it, and when I asked her name to s/o in the review, she said to just call her the "Cute lil' Asian Girl" :) For appetizer - we got the curry potstickers. So tasty, but the order was small (only 4 pieces) so we ordered a second round of them. We couldn't get enough of the red curry sauce, so we also ended up ordering the "gang dang" to-go. We also got two cocktails - the Spiked Thai Tea and the Moss Head. Both were delicious. For rolls, I got the Saiyan and my partner got the Akira and the Karuma. The sushi was good overall and tasted fresh, but the rolls felt extremely small and I think the sushi rice could've been better. But overall, the place is a total vibe and I'd go back.

Salmon belly special
Rajiv K.

Casual Japanese/ Thai cuisine located on a nice street. We parked on the street, it seemed like a safe neighborhood. Service was friendly albeit a bit disorganized and forgetful on the menu. The pad Thai, curry dumplings, sushi rolls were all about average. I felt the miso soup a bit above average. The standout is the chefs special. While the scallop photos of Yelpers past got me through the door (they didn't have that special this visit), the Norwegian salmon belly fully dressed was fantastic. We ordered it again. I'd say if you let this chef run with it more and train the waitstaff a bit you'd easily have a five star stand-out spot. I went with a three star rating because a majority of the food was as one might expect, service a little off, and the bathrooms slightly needed more love. I liked the artwork. I'd revisit, but would love to see the sushi chef lean into more specials.

Pad Thai

Mayu recently opened, and I went with two Thai lover friends. We got Thai versus the sushi. And we ate every bite. The fried calamari appetizer was small. Most places easily give you twice as much. In fact, the entree portions seemed on the small side as well. I ended up with the standby pad Thai, which was not the best, but good enough. My friends had no complaints with their dishes. Service was fine. Heart of Carytown location. Not my favorite Thai, but I'd go back when in the area and craving Thai. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.

I peeped Mayu one day when driving down Cary and was really intrigued and finally got the change to try it for lunch today! Ordered a bunch of different things across both the Sushi and Thai menus and everything was delicious. The sushi quality is amazing, and I love that their rolls also have some extra nicer touches to them like smoking the salmon for example (check out the photo - you can practically taste the charred goodness). Really elevates the rolls and the flavors overall. Only thing that surprised me was the roll was much smaller than expected, but the quality was also significantly better, so I wasn't mad about it. On the Thai menu side I ordered the Larb, the Bangkok Chicken and the green curry. Everything was tasty but the Bangkok Chicken was a standout and I would definitely get it again. All in all, I thought the flavors were so good and thoughtful across all of the Thai dishes and (to me) tasted very authentic. Highly recommend and so pumped to have this awesome restaurant on Cary!

Did you know "Trouvaille" in French means "find?" And not just "find," in the everyday use, but to…read morefind as if you are so fortunate! Well! Never has such a delightful eatery been so aptly named! Trouvaille is a glorious find indeed! Mind you, if you read my reviews you will see I know a bit about good cocktails and better food! So context: I was completely blown away by this little tucked away spot on Lombardy Street in Richmond's glorious Fan neighborhood. To begin: Top shelf alcohol, merged into glorious soothing cocktails expertly blended and presented as swanky as any NYC or SF bar! If you like an expertly blended Manhattan this is the place. Next time the old fashioned or anything frankly on the menu! For dinner: I had the gnocchi with fresh spring peas in a light cream sauce with the kind of tender savory chicken one dreams of. The whole thing was an imaginative yet comforting fusion of Japanese-Italian-American comfort food. Think: deconstructed chicken pot pie! Hubby had the short ribs which melted in my mouth alongside a perfectly crispy yet tender Japanese inspired (Korean?) rice cake next to perfectly unctuous kimchi!! Just amazing! I traveled the world in every bite! Umami perfection. But I skipped telling you about the appetizer of fresh spring salad with arugula, burrata, and just fresh everything. The dressing was a tiny but overpowering but totally tolerable because of the perfect tang and balance of creaminess. So good and the serving was beyond generous! We ordered delicious Homemade... like a truly homemade fresh loaf of bread arrived with perfectly not-too-sweet strawberry (what?) butter!! And save room for dessert! The oh so thin crepe cake with uh-mazing strawberry sauce and sweet (not too) crème was just light and pleasing. Again I could feel/taste the Japanese influence And then! An on the house chocolate pot de crepe had me swooning! This with our Malbec wine was like heaven on earth. Finally? The bill. So freaking reasonable! We spared no expense and had a bottle of wine! Nothing but pleasure here. The bill was a pleasure to pay! And I love thoughtful decor! I am happy to report: The vibe is incredibly cool, too. Think Gothic-minimalism meets the gilded age. Such a glam space but not in the least bit intimidating. I am in LOVE! Don't miss this place. I see Michelin stars in Joe the Chef's future. Mr. James Beard get to Trouvaille if you want to see the best of Richmond! You will not be disappointed.! We will be back for sure. Hope to see you there!

I've been seeing Ginza Soot but haven't tried it. My husband wanted ramen (we usually go to Takara) and we saw Ginza had ramen on the menu so we decided to try it. We ordered takeout: -Korean wings half regular and 1/2 spicy. They were just okay. Better Korean wings are available around town so I'd skip these next time. - Beef gyoza- reminded me of the frozen ones I buy from Lotte or Trader Joe's. They were okay but I didn't get the 'made in house' vibe from these. I've had better. Wouldn't order them again. - Pork tonkatsu ramen spicy. Granted it was takeout, but the package seems like it was assembled and stored in the fridge until someone ordered. The broth had to be heated up. It wasn't great. Wouldn't order it again. - general Tao's chicken spicy. This was way too sweet and not a hint of spiciness. The broccoli was overcooked. This is on par will mall Chinese food. Actually I've had better general Tso's at the mall kiosk. I bet the drinks and teas are good. For food, this one is not for me. This goes in the once and done column for me.

Not spicy hot, like blow on your food as you eat hot, so be careful. It was very flavorful though and I took some leftovers and reheated in the air fryer just fine.
