We were there for a few days as part of a work-sponsored service project in the area, and while some of the stuff there is a bit dated, it was a really great time. The lake is beautiful for swimming and other water sports, and they have a lot of stuff available to borrow - kayaks, canoes, paddle boards. I understand the bikes are also available to borrow, though I didn't partake this time. Food was good - some really good options for the breakfast and dinner buffets, and the outdoor pizza place was good as well. I tried a mocktail or two that were pretty good, and they had a bunch of local brews on tap and in cans, which some of our crew sampled and seemed to enjoy. The lodge itself was nice to hang around as well - really liked the big central area, including some recreational stuff like puzzles, board games, pool, ping pong, and the fitness center had some good stuff there too. Sitting outside looking at the lake and mountains was really nice too, or standing on the dock in the morning. Oh, and the free concert series was really cool - I discovered a new artist to listen to while there! Overall a really beautiful spot that I would absolutely visit again!

Tons of space for every level of skater. There is a rentals shop with hockey skates, figure skates, trail skates, and "support" accessories for those just learning or not super stable on skates. The trail is cleared daily, but when there is a snow storm it takes longer. The ice conditions are totally weather dependent. We've been here 3 times, one time the ice was smooth and very easy to skates on, one time we couldn't skate at all because the weather earlier in the week created slush, which then froze, and was so bumpy skating wasn't possible, and then it rained and the skate trial had 3 inches of water on it. This year, the trail opened earlier than ever (Jan 9) and this week (Feb school break) the weather was perfect for skating! Mostly smooth ice, some bumps in some spots, but easy to avoid, and it is a lake, so to be expected. The hotel is perfect for families with kids of any age. There were many multi-generations groups here together. They do lots of kid oriented things in addition to the skating (a movie theater, DJ and dance floor, ping pong, heated indoor swimming pool, billiards, a variety of games and puzzles. Free-range kids everywhere. The restaurant serves the basics. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. We ate here for one dinner, and tried the Beet salad, the pork dumplings, the soft pretzels, and the Ruben sandwich...and all were good. This place is not luxury. It has a classic historical hotel feeling about it, with lots of old photos on the walls to prove it. This place is a good value in the winter. Everything you need, friendly staff, beautiful views of the lake restaurant and bar on site for breakfast, lunch and dinner so if you don't want to leave once you get here, there is no need to. This very old Victorian country inn (first built in 1873 but rebuilt in 1899 after a fire) has seen…read morea lot of changes both in terms of its owners and its decor. Lots and lots of history here !! I also learned that for here, the "first floor" means one flight up from the lobby, and the "first floor" is NOT on the ground floor nor where the lobby is. Learn something new everyday. In fact, this inn does not appear to have rooms on the ground floor or where the lobby is, but if they do, I just don't know where that would be. The dining room, kitchen and bar appear to be what exists on the main floor. Regardless of all that, our room upstairs was beautifully appointed and spacious, and our king-size bed with its fluffy pillows was so inviting and comfortable. It was beautiful !! We slept so very well. I wish we had booked for more than one night. Our room rate included a warm-cooked breakfast the next morning. For an additional fee, we ate our dinner at the Vic Tavern, as well. (Those will be reviewed under the Vic Tavern.) The owners were very nice and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed speaking with them and staying at their inn. We'd come back here in a heartbeat, so if we are ever fortunate enough to return to Vermont, we'd easily return to Woodstock and this lovely B&B.

Breakfast was included and everything was cooked in house with really delicious and unique options like rosemary potatoes, high quality yogurt, and homemade jams. It all felt very homemade - because it was! The dining room was adorable and matched the rest of the property, which is filled with antiques. There are antiques everywhere in the hallways and the rooms carry that same vintage feel, which makes it really fun just to walk around and explore. There is also a library room with a pool table that feels like the cutest vintage lounge space. The pool area was amazing with a large hot tub, a nice pool, and a sauna. At night they have fire pits and complimentary s'mores packs so you can go outside and roast marshmallows. There are also games to borrow, a bar, river access, and so much more. A truly wonderful stay.

They also seem to do wedding as well as we can see the venue on the back side of the building. The place has long history and they even have a pamphlet that traces the history of the place back to 1800s. It's located near a pond and as you go in the premise there are gravel parking lots on the left. Once we parked we went inside to check in. The staff helped us check in and gave us our keys. Once we got the key we went to find our room. Noticed that it's definitely an older building as keys are regular key and a door knob which we don't see many at hotels nowadays. The lock for our room was bit tricky and i had to finagle it to open. Once open inside was a small room with queen bed, a mini fridge, tv, some light, bathroom and a closet. They also do have the old school ac unit. Inside seems to be relatively clean but does have that worn rustic old looks as its a historic buildings. One of the light was also not turning on quite so once again i had to finagle it to make it work. The facility also has diner and lounge area which is small and has that rustic look. They offer dinner and breakfast. Breakfast does come with the stay. We went to breakfast in the morning which was buffet style. Typical coffee, egg, sausage, bacon, home fries, blueberry pancake, cereals, yogurt, and some pastries and breads. The breakfast was ok. Service overall was good. Everyone was nice and helpful. Overall its a nice place to stay if you want to explore the quechee area and like that old farm rustic vibe.

Breakfast was do-it-yourself based on contents of the fridge, breakfast bar and keurig coffee maker (not deluxe, but adequate). Room was large (and AC was working fine) but decor was random and impersonal. King-sized bed was very comfortable and tiled shower bathroom was clean and functional. Note that the Inn is FOR SALE (last 500 days), so this may explain lack of attention to anything more than basic accommodation. I was unable to speak to anyone in management about having a late checkin -- they only respond to email (not phone) and not promptly and not on my first attempt. This was very odd. For the price ($281, with taxes), I think it should have been a lot nicer. Town is very quiet (actually pretty dead) and many businesses appear shuttered. There is however, a lovely park at the end of the property (after the tree swing) called Paradise Park. This made for a nice walk in the morning. I was glad we discovered this on our own as the innkeepers were non-existent. Pleasant enough, but .... not exactly what I was hoping for at this price.

A real treat for city-folk!) The staff is friendly, but not intrusive, and helpful when asked for advice about the area. While the Inn is pricey, you get what you pay for. Our room (Room 7 on the 3rd floor) was huge, with a mix of country and mid-century furniture, a very comfy king size bed with crisp clean-smelling sheets, bureau, and windows on two sides looking out over the street and grounds. It was painted a muted light green with white moldings and doors, and wide pine floors. There's a big LCD tv on the wall, with cable as well as a blu-ray player with access to Netflix, Pandora and YouTube (if you have accounts.) Also a few dozen movies in the Library to borrow (we watched a couple movies.) I peeked into several other rooms, and i don't think you could go wrong with any of them, all huge and very nicely appointed. The room was immaculate and also featured radiant floors in the 4-peice classically styled bath, which included a claw foot rub (outfitted with bath salts), a subway-tiled shower, and a quirky exposed beam running through one corner of the space. They have L'Occitane products A small vase of fresh flowers in the bathroom was a nice touch. The room had an efficient, quiet spit AC / heat unit, as well as supplemental old-style radiators (for winter stays). There is free, open WiFi throughout the house. The continental breakfast was what you'd expect - bagels, pastries, yogurt, cereal and boiled eggs. It's included and held in the spacious dining room. There is tea and coffee available there 24-hours. For the money (this isn't a cheap place), it would have been nice to have something like hot eggs, bacon set out as well, but the breakfast was perfectly in line with many B&Bs. There's also cookies left out in the lobby all afternoon, till they are gone, a nice touch as well. There's also a library / living room on the first floor to relax or read some of the volumes, and two porches as well. There were a couple small issues, which i wouldn't count as major: The windows didn't have screens, so you couldn't really open the windows to let the cool night air in (my partner wondered if the historic nature of the building was the reason), there wasn't a mini-fridge in the room, which i really like (it could fit in the closet easily). A note on the town itself: While the town itself is somewhat of one-stoplight town, there are a few dining spots around (inexplicably, no restaurants are open anywhere around on Monday night!), the longest covered bridge in the world, the Simon Pearce glass HQ, a Harpoon brewery, and the sort of new agey but fun "Path of Life" sculpture garden, also within a half hour drive: Hanover NH (Dartmouth College), quaint Woodstock, VT, and Quechee Gorge. So there's plenty to do for a weekend trip. In fact, we did quite alot in our two night stay, and my only regret in staying there was i wasn't there longer to have a change to just relax and read, walk around the pond out back, and generally enjoy the house. And if it hadn't rained the 2nd night, i'd have liked another chance to star-gaze, since i didn't have a wish ready when i say the one shooting star the first night.

Kids running uncontrolled in and out. A couple of people had dogs and they were off leash outside. It simply wasn't what we had in mind for a B&B. Masks were enforced and we complied. Our Room was clean but my husband called it a "bed in the bathroom" because the sink and shower were exposed - no doors - one on the left and the other on the right with a bed in middle. Only the toilet was behind a door - whew! Oh, and the floor is painted concrete (with lots of repainting needed) with just a small area rug. Towels were a bit rough and toiletries left a bit to be desired. We wanted a nice cross breeze (being a corner bedroom) but only one window had a screen in it so we opened it. The TV had zero reception and per the host, was only there for viewing DVDs. They did provide a selection of DVDs and we watched 2 movies without difficulty. I think they should upgrade the TVs or advertise no TV. Internet was fine. The grounds are beautiful being on the CT River. We walked the neighborhood. It was lovely. The host (no hostess) was pleasant. However, given all of the above, likely we will not return to this B&B.

Upon driving up, we were immediately greeted by Wolf, who walked us to the door. Actually, I might be misremembering the dog's name, but it was a nice welcome. John and Donna are very welcoming, and Donna's breakfasts were delicious. When we sat down for breakfast in the morning, John would tell us the hot breakfast menu for the day, and serve us. We loved being able to sit outside and enjoy a lovely fresh breakfast cooked by Donna. John would entertain us with stories about bears and their dogs. Their DVD library was pretty extensive, and I think they have ambient floor heating which was nice. If you're particular about your toiletries, I would recommend bringing your own shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and soap. Their showers have a dispenser for all purpose shampoo and body wash. We wanted to go outside, and John gave us a Xerox copy of a hand drawn map for a easy walk nearby. Both John and Donna made sure that we were prepared for the outsides, whether it was bug spray or lending us umbrellas for the rain. At the end of our stay, Donna gave us one of their cute gift baskets which is part of their Facebook promotion. My friends enjoyed the stay at Breakfast on the Connecticut so much, they considered themselves B&B converts.

Based on reviews and their webpage, I was under the impression that breakfast was provided but it was not. You can buy breakfast in the restaurant but it is expensive. The weirdest part of the stay was that there is no host to check guests in or help with issues. It is completely virtual! You press the button on a doorbell camera and someone answers after like 5 min. I had to press it several times to get a response at 10 am in the day of my checkout. The response was the staff doesn't show up until 11 am; which is the checkout time. There is a text number but the person or AI agent on the other end clearly is not the innkeeper or anyone capable of making decisions. They/It provided faulty information and was the opposite of helpful. If this is what the future of hospitality looks like, I am not impressed. My family rented two rooms on the first floor. One room facing the back of the property was nice but the other one (#15) was very small and had two windows overlooking the front porch and yard. Unfortunately there are chairs just outside of the windows and someone kept sitting in one of them and talking on her phone. It was very uncomfortable to have the shades open and have someone sitting right there. Because of this we had to keep the curtains drawn and with the room being so small, it felt like we were in a cave. Basically, it sounds like staying at the Jackson used to be a very nice experience but new owners/management are now trying to run the hotel as cheaply as possible. Guests are noticing.
